UKIPT5 Nottingham Day 1B: Level 1-6 updates (250/500 ante 50)

0

4:55pm: Tea time
Players have now gone on break as we've reached the end of level 6. You'll find level seven updates in a new post shortly. --JS

4:45pm: Geilich straight back at it
As we alluded to below Ludovic Geilich is now playing the Main Event, and in true Ludo style has wasted little time getting involved.
He opened in early position and then called when Antoan Katsarov three-bet to 3,000 from the small blind. The flop was an interesting [4d][Kd][Qd], Katsarov c-bet 2,500 and Geilich smooth called. No one bet the [8d] turn but Geilich bet 2,500 on the [9s] river and Katsarov released his hand. -- NW

4:40pm: A pretty ridiculous table
The latest wave of entrants include Max Silver, Jack Salter, Craig McCorkell and Ludovich Geilich, all of whom are fresh off Day 2 of the High Roller. There's an interesting dynamic developing at one table, with Silver, Ben Vinson, Salter and Christopher Brammer all sat in a row. Throw Simon Higgins into the mix as well and that's not a table we'd like to sit at any time soon. Salter agreed, calling it "a pretty ridiculous table". --JS

4:20pm: High Roller in the money
The High Roller is now on the bubble as they've gone from 12 players to eight in short order. Craig McCorkell, Ian Simpson, Keith Johnson Max Silver and Ludovic Geilich are those who've lost their chips.

Geilich was kind enough to tell us about how he bubbled. "Mitch (Johnson) opened, I jammed about 50,000 (20 big blinds) with pocket nines and he's got kings," Geilich went on to bemoan his bad track record at Dusk Till Dawn, "I've never cashed here, it's my bogey place. I've bubbled three tournaments here, I should have just walked away on the bubble."

So now just seven remain and this is how they stack up, everyone is now guaranteed £7,800

2 1 Tom Hall, 287,000
2 3 Thiago Nishijima, 170,000
2 4 Matas Cimbolas, 340,000
2 5 Ivan Luca, 170,000
2 6 Mitchell Johnson, 140,000
2 7 Bryn Kenney, 64,000
2 8 Felix Vincent Stephensen, 98,000

4:05pm: All is not what it seems
After flopping two pair, Chirac Thanki was probably feeling pretty good about his hand. His [ad][8d] certainly looked good on the [8h][9h][ac] flop, enough for him to raise Valentin Svilenov's 1,600 bet up to 4,500. The [6d] turn was a little scary, though. After the river bricked any further straight or flush draws, Thanki called Svilenov's all-in shove, only to find out that he'd turned the straight with [th][7h]. As it happened, it was a fantastic flop for Svilenov too, as his straight and flush draw would win almost 49 per cent of the time. With that call, Thanki is eliminated from the tournament. Will he re-buy? We'll find out. --JS

4pm: Cody climbing
Team PokerStars Pro Jake Cody is already up to 60,000 and the PokerStars Blog saw him win a pot to climb to that peak.
In the first hand Philippe Souki raised to 900 from early positon, Cody flat called on the button and from the big blind David Turofsky did likewise. The action checked to Cody on the [Jh][5s][Tc] flop, Cody bet 1,600 and Souki was the only caller. The UKIPT3 London final tablist called another 2,900 on the [3d] turn and the [9s] completed the board.

This time Souki changed tactics, leading into Cody for 5,900, the triple-crown winner considered his options for a decent amount of time before raising to 20,000 and Souki instantly released his hand. He's dropped to 17,800 as a result. --NW

Blinds up: 200/400 ante 50

3:45 pm: Exits
A few more exits to tell you about with the following players all having busted...for now. This is a re-entry tournament after all. Alex Goulder, Martin Hughes, Niall Mcaleer, Sacha Brookes, Van Tuan Phan, Haoran Cai, Carlos Citara and Stewart Jones are all out. --NW

3:30pm: No rest for the High Rollers
An increasing amount of players who came back for Day 2 of the High Roller are hopping straight into the main event. Ben Dobson and Niall Farrell are now starting to try and spin up their 25,000 starting stacks, with Farrell taking down the first pot he played.

Meanwhile, one player who busted the high roller yesterday faced a tough river decision. Rhys Jones was contemplating calling Zhung Ming Lao's 2,650 river bet on a [kh][8s][5s][ks][2c] board. It clearly wasn't an easy decision for Jones, but he ultimately put the chips in the middle. Lao showed [as][3s] for the nut flush and scooped the pot. --JS

They're down to 12 players in the High Roller, with seven getting paid there's plenty of short stacks looking for a double up, whilst it's Thiago Nishijima who leads with 230,000. Tom Hall (210,000) and Matas Cimbolas (195,000) are also well placed.

Table 13:
13 1 Craig Mccorkell, 17,200
13 4 Ivan Luca, 175,000
13 5 Felix Vincent Stephensen, 31,000
13 6 Mitchell Johnson, 35,000
13 7 Max Silver, 141,000
13 8 Thiago Nishijima, 230,000

15 Niall Farrell
16 Iaron Lightbourne
17 Marius Wolmarans
18 Rapinder Cheema

3pm: Cody in the house
We're up to 102 players in the Main Event and Team PokerStars Pro Jake Cody is among them. He suffered a brutal exit in the High Roller yesterday, but given the cards involved he thankfully was able to see the funny side of it.

2:55pm: A cruel river and the number of the beast
We picked up the action at table 23 following a raise to 800 pre-flop from David Williams. It was called three times and a flop of [Th][5c][qs] fell. Williams continued for 1,000 and Olov Jansson looked it up. The [4s] turn was checked by Williams, prompting Jansson to take a 2,000 stab at the point which was called. The board was completed by the [kd], completing any up/down or gutshot straight draws that were out there. Jansson's 3,600 river bet was called and Williams turned over [ah][kh] for a rivered pair of kings. It turned out that king helped Jansson's hand too, but his [kc][jc] was no good.

Meanwhile, there were some wicked things going on at another table where we saw a [6h][6c][6s] flop. The run-out wouldn't be too evil on any player, however, as one small bet from Mark Karoullas was enough to take it down. --JS

2:50pm: Gone but never to be forgotten
Regardless of what happens here in the next few days we just had the most important moment of the week. As the players returned from their break Simon Trumper took to the microphone, paused the tournament clocks and the entire room fell silent for a minutes silence for Dave 'Devilfish' Ulliott who sadly passed away last week.

It was impeccably observed by all inside Dusk Till Dawn as poker players paid their respects to a man, who quite likely, got many of them interested in the game. He was a legned, a pioneer, the king of the one liner and one of the few poker players simply known by just one name. Here's to you Devilfish, you will never be forgotten and poker owes you a massive debt of gratitude. -- NW

2:20pm: First break of the day
It's the end of level three and players have gone on a 20 minute break. --JS

2:15pm: Chips are flying
With players settled in, chips are certainly beginning to move around, and we were around from the early stages of what turned into a very large pot indeed. Four players had called Antoan Katsarov's 2,250 pre-flop bet, leading to a dry [2c][7d][5s] rainbow flop. It's not the kind of board you'd usually expect to see a lot of action, but with so much in the pot already it's hard not to put up a fight.

Katsarov put out a continuation bet from under the gun of 3,750 which was called in two spots by Oliver Classen and David Denny. The turn was the [jd], bringing a diamond flush draw. Katsarov opted to check over to Classen, who led out for 7,500. He found a caller in Denny, but not in the initial raiser who let his hand go. The river was the [9h], missing the flush and not bringing much else. Both players decided to check, and Classen's pocket kings were clearly more than enough to rake in a not-too-shabby 35,000 pot. --JS

2:10pm: Power poker from Brammer
Did Chris Brammer have it? We'll never know but he just picked up a nice pot courtesy of a pre-flop three-bet. Soleiman Masud limped from under-the-gun, two seats along Stelian Alexandru Bot bumped the price up to 775, only for Brammer to then raise to 2,700. Chi Zhang briefly looked interested but he folded as did everyone else, Bot showing the [Ah] as he did so. -- NW

2pm: Win with the ace high
The PokerStars Blog arrived at table 35 to see Daniel Charlton giving Robert Malvasi a quizzical look. Perhaps he liked his face, or perhaps it was because Malvasi had bet 3,000 on the river of a [Jc][Tc][2h][4d][9h] board.
Charlton then turned his attention back to the board itself and began working through the hand in his head, he eventually settled on calling and Malvasi showed [Ac][Kc], he'd pipped Charlton as he had looked him up with [Ad][Qd]. "That was the one I didn't think you had," said Charlton. -- NW

1:50pm: Strong start for Cai
Haoran Cai just won a chunky pot in a hand against Liangsheng Lin. The PokerStars Blog only caught the river action but on a complete board of [Qs][Jh][Qh][4h][Td] Cai bet 3,500 into a pot of 8,300 and Lin looked him up. Cai rolled over [Ah[8h] and Lin looked back at his cards before mucking. -- NW

1:40pm: Not how you start, but how you finish
Poker isn't just about being dealt a great starting hand, as Richard Blacklock just proved. With 1,025 in the middle, Blacklock called a bet of 450 from Adam Owen after a [2d][10h][7h] flop. The turn was the [6d], which saw another bet from Owen, this time of 1,025. After making the call, the river was a seemingly insignificant [4s]. This time Owen slowed down, and checked over to Blacklock who put out two yellow chips and one red for 2,500. Owen made the call and saw the bad news - Blacklock showed his [6h][4d] for runner runner two pair and the winning hand, as Owen mucked. The float on the flop turned out very well indeed. --JS

1:35pm: From the high roller to the main event
Chris Brammer has been knocked out of the High Roller and has immediately decided to hop into the Main Event. He's been seated at the same table as Ben Vinson. The latter played the High Roller yesterday but failed to make Day 2 another player who that applies to is Simon Higgins and he too is playing the Main Event today. -- NW

Blinds up: 100/200 ante 25

1:25pm: One out
We're up to 76 entries in the Main Event but only 75 players are left in, as Richard Norfolk is the first player to have been eliminated today. -- NW

1:15pm: Some more familiar faces
Players are continuing to take their seats for Day 1B, including some familiar faces from the UK poker scene. Leo McClean, who had his breakout tournament at EPT London in October 2013 where he finished third for £249,850, has pulled up a pew at table 35 alongside one of the UK's best online tournament players, Rhys Jones. Playing under the screen name 'floppinhel', Jones has amassed more than $1.7million in PokerStars tournament winnings, most recently taking down the Bigger $162, $160K Gtd at the end of March for $29,952. We'll keep an eye out and see if the pair tangle in any pots throughout the day. --JS

1:05pm: High Roller resumes
Day 2 of the High Roller has just started. A total of 21 players returned, the top seven will get paid and the winner will collect £46,800. Felix Stephensen is the current chip leader, with Ivan Luca, Rapinder Cheema and Ludovic Geilich also well placed. We'll be providing occasional updates on this as the day progresses. Below though is the start of day seat draw.

Table 12:
12 1 Craig Mccorkell

12:50pm: Sly takes a big pot
Chris Sly is playing his second Day 1, he busted out in a huge coin flip late on Day 1A on Sunday and is back for more today. He's off to a great start, winning a big pot against Richard Jones. It was actually Jones who was first to enter the pot, raising to 325 from under-the-gun, Chin Chai Koh called from middle position, Sly then three-bet to 800 and both players called.

So the pot was already big by the time the [8c][9s][2s] flop hit the felt, it checked to Sly, he bet 1,000 and Jones was the only caller. The [6d] fell on the turn, Sly bet 3,100 and Jones called again. The [9d] completed the board, Sly bet 5,000 into a pot of 12,250 and Jones grimaced a little before folding his hand. -- NW

12:40pm: Everyone loves a chop pot
The early levels of tournaments are normally rather timid affairs - nobody wants to bust after just half an hour of play, after all. But a big pot was brewing on Day 1B between Martin Hughes and Thomas Busst which saw them both putting more than a fifth of their stacks in the middle.

We caught up the action after the river, with the board showing [kh][2s][jh][2c][2h]. Any pair would give the player a full house, whilst the case deuce would provide a winning hand of quads. With an already healthy amount of yellow 1,000 chips in the middle, Hughes threw out a blue 5,000 chip. Did he have quads? Busst didn't think so, and made a pretty quick call. Hughes turned over [ks][js] for deuces full of kings - his flopped two pair having turned into a boat on the river. Busst let out a smile and turned over his hand - [kc][jd]. The pot would need to be split equally between the two players, and you know what they say... --JS

12:20pm: Hawkins versus Deadman
Two of the biggest names in the field are sat side by side at table 21 and it didn't take too long for Keith Hawkins and Simon Deadman to clash in a pot.

There was 300 in the pot by the time they reached the turn of a [2d][Ts][Ah][Ks] board. Hawkins led out for 150 from the small blind, Deadman raised to 500 from the big, Niall Mcaleer folded the button and Hawkins flicked in the extra.
The [4h] completed the board and both players opted to check, Hawkins, who has of course got a ton of poker experience, knew he had the winner and showed [As][6c] to take the pot.

Both Hawkins (23rd) and Deadman (16th) went deep in the Irish Open earlier this month but despite all their live success both are still looking for their first UKIPT final table. Hawkins has a catalogue of deep runs with 21st, 23rd and 37th place finishes whilst Deadman has previously finished 20th, 32nd and 34th in UKIPT Main Events.

12:10pm: Go!
Play has started here at Dusk Till Dawn. -- NW

12pm: Back for more on Day 1B
If Day 1A on Sunday felt more like an auxiliary Day 1 then that's because it was. It was a chance for players who can't get time off work during the week to be able to play a UKIPT Main Event without having to take a single day off work. Forty players took up that opportunity, but we're expecting far more to show up today for the second of four starting flights in this £1,000,000 GTD Main Event.

The structure for today will, of course, be exactly the same as Sunday, 10 levels each of which is 45 minutes in length. Players will take a break after every three levels and begin with 25,000 in chips. Should the noon start time prove a little early then late risers can enter the fray until the start of the seventh level.

Ukipt5_nottingham_main_event_day1b_chips.jpg

Players are being called to their seats and action should be under way shortly.

8:35pm Done for the day
That's all folks from Day 1B of the £1,000,000 Guaranteed Main Event, a wrap of the day's play is on the way. -- NW

8:20pm Power poker
Kuljinder Sidhu had fired out 4,500 after the [7d] river completed a [ac][3d][ts][7d] board, before Rhys Jones turned up the aggression with a raise to 18,500. Sidhu asked how much Jones had left before shoving his entire stack in the middle. The all in was not called, and Sidhu raked in a nice pot at the end of the day. He then showed an intriguing [ks] to the table. --JS

8:10pm: Big pot for Lightbourne
There was a huge pot building over at table 22, and we got there in time to work out there was more than 50,000 in the middle after the completion of the [ah][jc][5c][qc][3d] board. Former chipleader Du Wang checked over to Iaron Lightbourne who had the button. It took Lightbourne some careful consideration when thinking of how to act, but he eventually checked behind, turning over [th][kc] for a straight. Wang mucked his hand, which obviously did not contain the two clubs Lightbourne was worried about. --JS

7:53pm: The tables have turned
We're now in the last level of the day and yet another stacked table has broken, scattering talent around the room. Simon Higgins rejoins his tablemates from earlier in the day, Jack Salter and Christopher Brammer, as well as Ben Dobson. Meanwhile, Jake Cody and Leo McClean now sit with the chipleader at the break, Max Ladbrooke. --JS

7:50pm: High Roller chip counts
There are still five players left in the High Roller. Blinds are about to go to 3,000/6,000 ante 1,000 and this is how they stack up:

Tom Hall, 160,000
Thiago Nishijima, 285,000
Matas Cimbolas, 470,000
Ivan Luca, 220,000
Mitch Johnson, 64,000

Blinds up: 600/1,200 ante 100

7:45pm: Hicks and Chattaway sent home
Nick Hicks and Billy Chattaway are two of the well known players who've been knocked out during level nine, they may well be back tomorrow though. As for today, just 61 players remain. -- NW

7:40pm: Cody and Higgins tangle
It didn't take long for Simon Higgins to make his presence felt at his new...felt. Jake Cody had put out a bet of 4,500 with the board reading [4s][js][7h][qc][6s]. Higgins raised it up to what looked like around 25,000 and Cody made the call before mucking, his holding obviously not beating the [qs][ts] flush of Higgins. --JS

7:30pm: The bluff gets through
After Krenar Hamiti bet 6,500 on a [tc][3h][2d][7d][jd] board, there was only one move for Philippe Souki - shove all in. His 20,000-odd stack had enough fold equity to get Hamiti to lay down what was clearly the best hand, as Souki flashed both a smile and [ac][8c] for total air. --JS

7:20pm: Counts from the break
Max Ladbrooke has usurped Du Wang at the top of the chip counts whilst two Simon's - Higgins and Deadman - are both handily placed.

Max Ladbrooke, United Kingdom, 148,000
Du Wang, United Kingdom, 130,000

Ben Vinson, United Kingdom, 11,100

7:10pm: Deadman alive and well
We haven't heard too much from Simon Deadman today, but towards the end of the day's play we found him involved in a large pot with Eirimas Livonas. The board read [5c][jc][th][7h][kd] and Livonas had bet 11,500. Deadman raised it up to approximately 30,000, which didn't seem to please his opponent. After some deliberation, Livonas made the call and both players turned over queen and nine for the second nut straight. --JS

7pm: From one ridiculous table to another
One of the most stacked tables in the room has now broken. Christopher Brammer and Jack Salter have joined Ben Dobson's table, while Simon Higgins is butting heads with Jake Cody, Leo McClean and Rhys Jones. --JS

Blinds up: 500/1,000 ante 100

6:47pm: Break time
The players are now on their final break of the day, they'll return to play two more levels before play ends for the day. -- NW

6:45pm: No gold for Silver
Max Silver has just busted and made a swift exit from Dusk Till Dawn. After raising to 4,000 on the button and with 3,200 in the middle already, Simon Higgins made a big raise to 16,000. Silver then shoved over the top and was snap called by Higgins. It was [JH][kd] for Silver and a dominating [AH][kh] for Higgins. The [ac][qc][6s][5d][4d] board was no help for Silver. --JS

6:40pm: Cody doubles Laio
On a [4c][9c][2d] flop, Jake Cody put out a bet of 3,500. Zhung Ming Laio made the call, not leaving himself much behind. The turn was the [6h] and Cody bet enough to put Laio all in. He made the call and his [3d][9d] was trailing Cody's [7c][9s]. However, the river was the [3s] and Laio managed to double up. --JS

6:40pm: Five alive
He came back with the chip lead today but Felix Stephensen has just been eliminated in sixth place in the High Roller, that's good for £9,660.

Five left. -- NW

6:35pm: Wang is number one
Du Wang has a massive chip lead over the rest of the field as he's sitting on a stack of 180,000. Little is known about him, indeed he only has $1,854 in lifetime earnings. -- NW

Ukipt5_nottingham_main_event_day1b_du_wang.jpg

Wang leads the way

6:25pm: Clock calling controversy
The was a big pile of chips already in the middle of the table by the time Max Ladbrooke set Tony Milan all-in on the river of a [6s][Tc][3s][5c][Js] board. The latter had about 25,000 behind and the pot was already around 75,000 - including Ladbrooke's river bet - Milan took his time, so much so that Craig McCorkell called the clock.

The floor was summoned and they decided that Milan had not had enough time yet to make decision. He didn't take much longer though as finally he elected to call. Ladbrooke showed [As][9s] for the nuts and scooped a huge pot to climb to 125,000. "I had aces," said Milan. There was no animosity at all and he shook hands with Ladbrooke before leaving the table.

After he'd gone the clock calling conversation continued. "I was watching the clock, he'd had three and half minutes already, plus he then gets another minute," said McCorkell. "We're on a 45 minute clock, you can't take 10% of a level on one decision on one street," he added. Khoa Nguyen backed him up saying. "He only had about half pot back too." -- NW

6:10pm: Brammer doubles, Cody moves
Christopher Brammer may be sat on the 'pretty ridiculous table' we mentioned earlier, but that hasn't stopped him from doubling up. Brammer, an elite player both live and online with over $3million in online earnings on PokerStars, doubled through Max Silver when his [8h][9s] proved to be the best on a [3h][qs][9c][6d][9d] board. Brammer is now sitting with around 30,000.

Meanwhile, PokerStars Team Pro Jake Cody has switched tables, and now sits alongside Leo McClean and Rhys Jones. --JS

Blinds up: 400/800 ante 100

5:55pm: Down to six in the High Roller
Bryn Kenney has been eliminated in seventh place, earning £7,800, Mitch Johnson the man who took him out. Kenney was gutted at just missing registration for the Main Event. "I'd have played today for sure," he said. As it is he plans to spend his time wisely. "I'm going to go get some Nandos and then head to the gym. You don't get much chance to exercise at these tournaments as they finish late and start early."

Ukipt5_nottingham_high_roller_bryn_kenney.jpg

Kenney - off to the gym

5:50pm: Slight setback for Higgins
We arrived at the action with the board reading [5s][9d][4h[7h][4c]. There was a large amount of chips already in the middle - around 25,000 - and Khadam Hussain had fired a bet of 16,000 over to Simon Higgins. After thinking about it, Higgins made the call, and Hussain turned over [ah][4d] for a rivered set. Higgins flashed pocket tens and suffers a slight blow to his stack. --JS

5:40pm: Gone
With late registration now closed the number of players left in the tournament today can now only go down. Just 94 players currently remain as: Thomas Horton, Liangsheng Lin, John Engledow, Michael Cleare, Thomas Postlethwaite, Niall Farrell, Stelian Alexandru Bot, Mark Karoullas, Daniel Clark, Chirac Thanki, David Denny, Sean Randall and David Dring have all been eliminated. -- NW

5:30pm: Jacks all round
Thinking he was under the gun, Max Silver went to fold his hand before realising he was in the big blind and putting out the 600. "I haven't even looked at my cards yet" he joked, as it was folded around to Christopher Brammer in mid-position who min-raised to 1,200. Emran Hussain in the small blind then three-bet to 5,000. After Silver threw his hand away for a second time, Brammer wasted no time shoving his entire stack into middle, and was quickly called by Hussain. However, any big-pot nerves were soon quashed as both players flipped over pocket jacks. A safe board ran out and the two players chopped it up. --JS

5:15pm: Chip counts

UKIPT5 Nottingham: Max Ladbrooke claims Day 1B chip lead

$
0
0

We ramped things up today at Dusk Till Dawn as the second of four starting days in the £1,000,000 Guaranteed Main Event attracted 128 runners, some two and a half times more than Day 1A on Sunday.

Those who elected to play today faced the same conditions as those who played Sunday of course and over 10 levels of play the field was reduced to just 48 as the rising blinds took their toll on this talented field. Amongst those who bagged chips no one could match Max Ladbrooke as he finished on 190,900. "I won a big flip with queens against ace-king," the 23 year-old politics student told the PokerStars Blog at the end of play, always nice to on the right side of that one. "I should be doing my dissertation," he added. However his tome on Animal Rights has been put on hold after he satellited into the Main Event for £200 in a live satellite last night. "I'm a terrible poker player, this is ten times bigger than the biggest event I've ever played," he stated matter of factly. He refreshing honesty continued when he said. "I'm definitely a fish on a heater."

Ukipt5_nottingham_main_event_day1b_max_ladbrooke.jpg

Good Lad

The Keele University students total was not only more than anyone else mustered today but more than Day 1A chip leader Sunil Pancholi accrued, he bagged 170,800 on Sunday. Others today who also caught some heat and came close to catching him include: Simon Higgins (151,800), Iaron Lightbourne (144,000) and Leo McClean (119,200). McClean had a great end to the day as he won a 70,000 chip pot on the very last hand of the day, "I opened with queens and a guy decided to rip into me with ace-jack," he told the PokerStars Blog.

Ukipt5_nottingham_main_event_day1b_leo_mcclean.jpg

McClean enjoyed a late surge

Team PokerStars Pro was represented by Jake Cody today, he shot out the blocks, climbing to 67,000 at one point but he lost a big pot to Simon Higgins in the penultimate level of the day to slip back to 14,000. He couldn't mount a comeback and busted in the last level of the day. Another Team Pro - Liv Boeree - was involved in a different tournament today, the £3,000 High Roller. Unfortunately she busted short of the money in that one, she didn't hop into the Main Event but plenty in the same boat as her did just that. At one point Max Silver, Ben Vinson, Jack Salter and Chris Brammer were sat in a row, a tough line-up for sure. But the Poker Gods care not for reputation and for once Silver had an off day on the felt and although Vinson, Salter and Brammer made it through none of them ran up a big stack.

Cody - out (for now)

Ukipt5_nottingham_main_event_day1b_chris_brammer.jpg

Brammer - in

Stacks of note, either by virtue of their size or the reputation of the player behind them, include:

Dave Maddock - 104,400
Robin Fisher - 99,400
Eirimas Livonas - 94,500
Lee Taylor - 93,900
Philippe Souki - 91,900
Simon Deadman - 80,100
Richard Blacklock - 76,400
Kuljinder Sidhu - 75,800
Daniel Charlton - 72,100
Richard Kellett - 71,300
Yucel Eminoglu - 63,300
Christopher Brammer - 59,000
Ben Jackson - 49,700
Rhys Jones - 48,000
Chris Sly - 46,700
Ben Vinson - 24,300
Jack Salter - 18,000

Deadman - very much alive

A combined list of Day 1 survivors can be seen here but you won't find the names of Keith Hawkins, Nick Hicks, Billy Chattaway, Keith Johnson, Ludovic Geilich, Jonathan Kalmar, Niall Farrell or Alex Goulder amongst them as they all fell by the wayside during today's play. They may of course be back tomorrow, the PokerStars Blog will definitely be here as we do it all again when Day 1C gets under way at noon. You can catch up with all today's action by clicking here or here, but for now so long, we'll see you tomorrow.

UKIPT5 Nottingham Day 1C: Level 1-6 updates (250/500 ante 50)

$

0

5pm: Second break
Players have gone on a break before we move into level 7. You'll find those updates in a new post here. --JS

4:58pm: Tough table is terminated
All good things must come to an end. The talent-filled table we've been covering throughout the past few levels - which featured Charlie Combes, Paul Van Nunes, Ian Gascoigne, Mark MacDonnell and Chris Dowling - was broken just before the break, but not without some casualties. Both Charlie Combes and Callum Mccuaig busted in quick succession. --JS

4:35pm: Hutchinson's house blows down
Dean Hutchison just lost a huge pot against Dean Smith, one which means Smith is now the chip leader with around 95,000.
We arrived as the pot was being pushed to Smith, his [Th][Ts] was clearly visible on the table as was a complete board of [5h][Qc][4s][Qs][Tc]. "Did you have a queen?" asked Smith as Hutchison prepared to depart. "No, a house, pocket fives," replied Hutchison. So a nasty river for the UKIPT4 Edinburgh winner, he's may yet be back for another shot today as late registration is open until the start of level seven. -- NW

4:30pm: Gudger gone
Eleanor Gudger had an eventful day to say the least. Down to 16,000 early on she recovered to 28,000 only to then lose a big pot when her opponent hit a gutshot straight. That left her with 1,500 and there was no epic spin up.

4:20pm: The names keep coming
The field grows ever bigger and Matas Cimbolas, who finished runner-up in the High Roller yesterday, and Danish wizard Morten Mortensen are both now playing this tournament. As are Jake Cody, Ben Dobson, Padraig O'Neil, Jack Ellwood, Fraser Macintyre, Craig McCorkell and Felix Stephensen. -- NW

The dangerous Dane, Morten Mortensen

Blinds up: 250/500, ante 50

4:10pm: No time to waste
We saw a scattering of large chips over at one table so decided to drop in on the action. On a [6c][9c][4h] flop, Alan Gold put out a bet of 3,300 which was called by Jack Allen. However, Darren Delahunty was in no mood for calling and raised it up to an even 10,000. The initial raiser let it go, but not after asking both Allen and Delahunty how much they had behind. Allen made the call and we went to a [6h] turn. Delahunty insta-shoved which got a quick fold from the now short-stacked Allen. The victor showed the table his [9h][9s] for a full house and quickly scooped up the pot. --JS

4:05pm: Fast start for Brown
Irish Pro Rory Brown, came here by boat and he might need a bigger one if he continues accumulating chips at the rate he is.

3:55pm: Bryn Kenney doin' work
After busting the High Roller late in the day yesterday, Bryn Kenney was all up for hopping straight into the main event, however he'd narrowly missed the end of registration. The American is back today, though, and is getting to work. He currently sits with 33,000. --JS

3:50pm: Cody loads up more bullets
Team PokerStars Pro Jake Cody played the Main Event yesterday but busted out near the end of the day. He's indicated he's playing again today although he's not currently seated.

3:45pm: Big fold from Hall
We joined the action on the turn of a [7h][Tc][Ad][6d] board to see Tom Hall betting 2,350 (around half pot), his opponent in the hand was Tim Chung and he slid out a raise, making it 7,050 in total. Hall took a look back at his cards and then let them go. "That was a huge fold," said Hall smiling. "Two pair, ace-seven," he added although he might have been bluffing! Hall drops to 23,700 whilst Chung has around 39,000.

Rory Brown is also at the table and the Irishman is off to a great start as he's up to 73,000. --NW

3:40pm: Ridiculous table gets more ridiculous
Earlier we zeroed in on table 41 as a particularly tough table (see 2:55pm post) and it's now got even more ridiculous as two-time SCOOP winner Charlie Combes has joined the table. --NW

Blinds up: 200/400, ante 50

3:30pm: A consistent story
Carl Falconer raised from early position to 800, which was called by Dahe Liu and Tom Middleton. The trio saw a flop of [3s][4s][6d] and Falconer continued, this time for 2,000. Liu made the call and Middleton let it go. The turn was the [3d], pairing the board. The bet this time was 3,600 from Falconer, and Liu wasn't going anywhere, making the quick call. The [th] fell on the river and Falconer remained consistent with his story, leading for 7,500. Liu only had 8,200 behind, so the bet was essentially for his tournament life. He opted to shove instead of flat call and Falconer looked him up for just 700 more. Liu's pocket eights were good as Falconer mucked. --JS

3:15pm: Exits
The list of exits is now 14 long with John Cleverly-james, Jason Barton, Max Winberg, Ivan Sebeledi, David Williams and Gerard Bucke among those who've been eliminated. -- NW

2:55pm: Fashionably late
As we enter level 4 Players are continuing to arrive and take their seats. We're now up to 239 runners, and it's usually the regulars on the poker circuit who feel the most comfortable skipping early levels, and that's been the case today. However, arriving fashionably late also means you're almost guaranteed to be sitting with some pretty tough competition.

One such table of established pros has emerged. Here's how it stacks up:

1 Benjamin Heath
2 Thomas Somerville
3 Paul Nunes
4 Callum Mccuaig
5 Zaheeb Zeb
6 Ian Gascoigne
7 Marc MacDonnell
8 Chris Dowling
9 Thomas Dunwoodie

In the nine seats we have an Estrellas Poker Tour second place finisher (Nunes, €204,589), a Sunday Million winner (Heath, chopped for $168,000 in March), a three-time UKIPT final tablist (Dowling), a regular on the UKIPT and EPT circuits (Dunwoodie), an online whiz with more than $900,000 in tournament winnings (MacDonnell), and a Dusk Till Dawn regular with more than $190,000 in live tournament earnings (Gascoigne). --JS

UKIPT regular Lynne Beaumont has jumped out to an early lead here in Nottingham as she's already up to 76,500 whilst Kevin Allen has built on his early double up to climb to 63,675. At the other end of the scale Ryan Spittles (6,975) and Tom Middleton (16,400) have some work to do. We'll be updating the chip count page throughout the day. -- NW

2:25pm: First break of the day
Players in the main event are now on break, check back for some of the room's notable chip stacks shortly. --JS

2:20pm: No rest for Deadman
Despite finishing Day 1B with a healthy 80,100 stack, Simon Deadman is back at Dusk Till Dawn grinding a 5-seat guaranteed satellite into the main event. --JS

2:15pm: Exits
A few more players have already been less potless as Daniel Rohrbasser, Robert White, Michael Macleod, Bobbie Brummitt and UKIPT regular Asif Warris have all been eliminated. The field is up to 230 now. -- NW

2:00pm: A river runs through it
There seem to be difficult river decisions taking place wherever you turn in Dusk Till Dawn today. Mitchell Johnson was putting a lot of pressure on Stephen Okeeffe, firing out a 12,700 bet on a [4c][6c][kd][5h][9d] board. There was already around 16,000 in the middle, and despite asking Johnson how much he had behind, Okeeffe let go of his hand, giving the chunky pot to his opponent. Meanwhile on a different table, Ivan Iliev called the clock on Lucas Blanco Oliver - sat to his left - as he took his time to fold to Iliev's 5,000 river bet.

Of course, what's a cruel river for one person is a great one for another. Dara Davey bet 2,200 on fifth street with the board reading [7d][4h][6c][qh][7c], and got a call from Guy Taylor. However, when Davey flipped over his pocket aces, he saw that Taylor's [ks][7s] had got there at the end. --JS

1:50pm: Follow the action
There was double punishment for Paul Hardy as not only did he lose that hand but due to acting out of turn on fourth street he also received a two hand penalty.

There were three active players still in the pot on the turn of a [6c][Js][5h][3s] board, Daniel Tang bet 2,300, action was on Richard Jones, but Hardy called out of turn and after the floor was called to explain the situation, Jones too called.
So there was now around 9,500 in the pot as the [8c] rolled off on the river, Tang checked, Jones bet 4,800, Hardy made a quick call and Tang through his hands up in the air. He leant back, took a sip of water and then folded the [Jc] face-up. It was a good fold as Hardy showed [8s][6c] which was behind to the [5c][5d] on Jones. -- NW

Tang - correctly laid down top pair

1:40pm: Silence for a legend
Today is a sad day in the poker world as Dave 'Devilfish' Ulliott, who passed away last week after a short battle with cancer, is laid to rest. His funeral takes place in Hull today and as a mark of respect a minutes silence was just held at Dusk Till Dawn. Not only was Devilfish a big supporter of Dusk Till Dawn and friends with many who frequent the venue, he was undoubtedly a poker legend and not only in the UK.

Fittingly at the end of the minute spontaneous applause broke out as the players here showed their appreciation for a man who blaazed a trail for UK poker and who, it's no stretch to say, is responsible for getting more players in the UK interested in poker than any other player. He will be sorely missed, but never forgotten. -- NW

RIP Dave 'Devilfish' Ulliott

1:35pm: Over 200
There are 208 entrants in the Main Event today and everyone's ROI% has gone down a notch as some very capable players have arrived fashionably late. EPT10 Barcelona winner Tom Middleton is now seated as is Max Silver. The UKIPT1 Dublin champion has gone on to far bigger and better things since he won that title in September 2010. At the time it was only his second live cash, and by far his biggest score, it now sits eighth on the list. UKIPT4 Galway Champion and WCOOP leader board winner Alan 'Mr Negreanu' Gold is also in the field. -- NW

Blinds up: 100/200 ante 25

1:25pm: A disciplined fold
It can be hard to release pocket aces and pocket kings, especially on unpaired boards, but we just caught Jonathan Wong making a very disciplined fold. On a [6c][9s][3c] flop, David Lloyd made a 5,000 bet which Wong called (the pot was already substantial by the time we arrived). The turn was [qc], putting three clubs out there. Wong thought hard for a few minutes, asking Lloyd "Are you going to show me if I pass?", but Lloyd stared stoically. Eventually he passed, turning over [ks][kd] for an overpair to the board. Was he right? Lloyd assured him, saying "You were behind". Having final tabled EPT Prague, finishing third for €410,190 in December, we're sure this won't be the only tough, but correct, decision Wong will make today. --JS

Ukipt5_nottingham_main_event_day1c_jon_wong.jpg

Did Wong make the right fold?

1:20pm: Details on the Ian Simpson exit
"No I don't want to talk about it," said Ian Simpson with a trademark grin, he was only joking of course and was happy to tell us about his early exit today.

After Kevin Allen had opened the button to 300, Simpson three-bet pocket aces from the small blind to 900 and Allen made the call. On the [Kx][8x][7x] flop Simpson c-bet. "If he's got a king here I'm just going to value bet all three streets," he explained. Allen called and another eight rolled off on the turn. "I bet 3,500 and he raised to 9,000, has he really got an eight?" Simpson continued. "So I called and another eight came on the river. So now if he's got a king he's going to call, so I moved all in and he called. He had quads."

Allen had [8x][6x] to be precise and gave his own take on the hand. "It's such a sick run out for his hand, he's value shoving the river there." -- NW

1:10pm: ThEcLaiMEer starts strong
We just caught one of the UK's best online players Rich 'ThEcLaiMEer' Trigg take down a nice pot early. With two players calling the 450 pre-flop raise from Jack Allen, Trigg decided to bump up the price of poker to 2,800. Only Thi My Van Nguyen in the small blind made the call, and the two saw a flop of [jc][2h][4d]. One check from Nguyen and a 3,000 bet was all it took for Trigg to take it down. --JS

1pm: No respect
There was a time when, so the saying went, 'under-the-gun is the new button,' that was some years ago however although perhaps the memo is yet to reach table 14. When Karen Arthur raised to 450 from under-the-gun she picked up five callers, including both blinds. On the [4s][2h][5d] flop she c-bet 975 and couldn't shake off Alexander Kjellberg or Robert Moss.
Fourth street was the [9d], she slowed down and when Kjellberg bet 2,650 both Moss and Arthur folded. -- NW

Blinds up: 75/150

12:50pm: Simpson out then in again
Ian Simpson was the first player to bust today, but he's bought back in we'll try and track him down and get details on that one. And Mark Hawks is also out, Ivan Sebeledi looks to be the main beneficiary of that one as he's up over 40,000 already. -- NW

12:40pm: Ivan Luca's remarkable run continues
Long after the Main Event had wrapped up last night the first champion of UKIPT5 Nottingham was crowned as Ivan Luca won the £3,000 UKIPT5 Nottingham High Roller after a marathon heads-up battle against Matas Cimbolas.

Luca outlasted a field of 51 to claim the title, and £46,800, to continue the amazing run he's been on since December and his winnings for 2015 already stand at $773,116. At the start of Day 2 just 21 players returned, they reached a final table fairly swiftly and when Ludovic Geilich bubbled in eighth place the other seven were all in the money. The full payouts are as below:

1. Ivan Luca - £46,800
2. Matas Cimbolas - £33,750
3. Thiago Nishijima - £21,500
4. Tom Hall - £16,300
5. Mitch Johnson - £12,600
6. Felix Stephensen - £9,660
7. Bryn Kenney - £7,800

12:40pm: Who's here?
As expected the number of entries has shot up since play started with 177 players now in their seats. Some of the well-known players who've elected to play today include: Sergio Aido, Jeff Kimber, Rich Trigg, Deborah Worley-Roberts, Jon Wong, Dean Lyall, Jonathan Crute, Paul McTaggart, Neil Raine and Ryan Spittles. We'll be tracking the names, notables and big stacks here, throughout the day. -- NW

12:30pm: Chips are flying
Despite it being just 30 minutes into the first level, we've already noticed some pretty large pots. One such hand involved Eleanor Gudger, who three-bet Lee Webb's 3x open from the small blind to 950 pre-flop. Webb made the call and we saw a board of [qh][4s][5s]. Gudger continued for the same 950 amount, and Webb wasn't budging. The turn was the [Td], which saw play slow down as it was checked around. The river brought the [8h] and Gudger tossed out two yellow 1,000 chips, but Webb decided to amp things up and raised to 7,000 - 70 big blinds at this first level. Gudger called and saw the bad news - Webb's [8s][8d] had become a set on the river, and she mucked her hand. Still, it's early in the day and there's plenty of play to come. --JS

12:10pm: Action is under way
Cards are now in the air here in Nottingham. --NW

11:55am: C stands for crowded
There's a noticeably busier feel to Dusk Till Dawn as we approach the start of the third of four starting flights in the £1,000,000 GTD UKIPT5 Nottingham Main Event. The bar area is busier, there's more bustle ahead of the hustle and everything feels nicely set up for an exciting day of poker.

The board is currently showing that there are 104 players registered to play today with Kevin Allen, Paul Zimbler, Ryan Spittles, Jon Wong and Dean Hutchison among them. With late registration open until the start of level seven that number could easily double before then.

The players have been called to their seats and action should be under way shortly.

UKIPT5 Nottingham Day 1C: Level 7-10 updates (600/1,200 ante 200)

8:45pm: That's Day 1C in the bag
Play has ended, chips have been bagged, and many players are now enjoying a well-earned pint after ten levels of play. 109 players have survived to make it through to Day 2 on Saturday - a full round up of today's action will be up on the blog shortly. --JS

8:20pm: Three hands remain
The dealers have been told there are three hands of play left on Day 1C. As it stands there are 115 players remaining, and we've recently lost former chipleader and High Roller champ Ivan Luca, as well as Terry Jordon, Jack Allen and Andrew Hulme. -- JS

You can't win them all Ivan!

8:00pm: Nice end to the day
It's always nice to take down a big pot as the end draws to a close, and Jonee Stanton is now a player who knows that well. Foyzul Hussein opened the action to 2,000 and Stanton three-bet to 5,000 on the button, which was called. The flop, [4s][3h][tc], caused Hussein to take the lead and bet 8,000 out of position, which Stanton called. The [7d] on the turn put a few straight draws out there, and Hussein continued to lead - this time for 13,500. A call took us to a river, which was the [8c]. Hussein slowed down and it was checked around. Stanton's [ac][7c] had bested Hussein's [as][kd] after a float on the flop - and the man on the button took it down. --JS

7:50pm: Local favourite going strong
Dusk Till Dawn regular Ian Gascoigne has a very healthy chip stack after taking down a bloated pre-flop pot. We caught the action as Simeon Sundelius had four-bet to 20,500. Gascoigne moved all in for 118,000 - about 30,000 more than Sundelius held - and got his opponent to fold begrudgingly. Sundelius was certainly happy when Gascoigne flashed his pocket aces, though; so much so that he wiped his brow and let out a 'phew!' with relief. Gascoigne now sits with approximately 150,000. --JS

Blinds up: 600/1,200 ante 200

7:30pm: Battle of the (undetermined) bluffers
Matas Cimbolas, who finished runner-up in last night's High Roller final table for a nice £33,750 pay-day, is at it again today in the main event. However, a hand we saw suggested he's not necessarily having a smooth ride.

The flop was [kc][js][6c], and the Lithuanian faced a bet of 2,500 from Andrew Mapp. He decided a raise was in order and bumped it up to 10,500. "Why so much?" asked Mapp, before Cimbolas spread and the pot and replied "I don't think it's too much!"

The raise was called, but the [6s] turn was checked around. When the [8d] river fell, Mapp fired out for an even 12,000 - causing Cimbolas to squirm slightly and think for several minutes, whilst going through his thought process out loud. He eventually folded and begged Mapp to "show the bluff!" to which Mapp replied "Show me YOUR bluff!" - touché, sir. --JS

7:20pm: The numbers are in
The final total of players for today has just been handed to us and there were 265 entries and 26 re-entries for a total field of 291. As it stands, just 141 players remain. Among those who've been eliminated recently and will have to try tomorrow are: Osman Mustanoglu, Dara Davey, Benjamin Heath, Jonathan Crute, Richard Trigg and Alan Gold. -- NW

Gold - will have to go prospecting again tomorrow

7:10pm: Chip leaders
As level nine gets under way these are the players who are contesting the chip lead. Amazingly Ivan Luca is running up yet another stack here at Dusk Till Dawn. He won the High Roller yesterday and is now going to town on the Main Event.

Ivan Luca, 149,000
John Keown, 146,000
Chris Brice, 138,000
Kevin Whelan, 138,000
Alexander Harriman, 120,000
Guy Taylor, 120,000
Chris Dowling, 118,500
Andrew Mapp, 118,000
Rory Brown, 110,000

6:50pm: Final break of the day
Players have gone on their last break of Day 1C. We'll be back with more updates shortly. --JS

6:45pm: No luck at the races for Cody
Jake Cody has just busted out of the UKIPT Nottingham main event. It was Brendan Olidi's small blind shove and Cody's quick call from the big blind which put the PokerStars Team Pro at risk. Jake had [ah][kh] but was racing against Olidi's [th][tc], and the flop brought no help as it ran out [5c][jd][6h]. The [3s] on the turn changed nothing, and Cody needed help on the river. It didn't come - the [7h] meant it was game over for Jake and his 15,000 stack slid over to Olidi. Good game

Cody's decision in this hand was pretty automatic but he faced some tougher ones at EPT11 London back in October. If you're in the UK you can watch Cody put to the test on Channel 4 at 00.30 BST and thanks to our new Play Along App you can see if you would've made the same choices as the triple-crown winner. --JS

Ukipt5_nottingham_main_event_day1b_jake_cody.jpg

Jake Cody eliminated

6:40pm: The get it in bad grimace
We arrived at Jake Cody's table to see Lee Webb betting 7,000 on a [9c][4d][7h] flop, Ross Greig was his lone opponent in the hand and after a brief dwell he made the call. No sooner had the [Jd] hit the turn then Webb moved all-in for 18,300 and Greig snap called. Webb grimaced, he knew he was in bad shape and so it proved as he held [Tc][Ts] whilst Greig had [9h][7h]. He had some counterfeit outs as well as direct outs but the [2d] river didn't fit in either category and he was on his way. -- NW

6:30pm: Game over for Geilich
For a brief time Tom Middleton and Ludovic Geilich were tablemates, and both were short-stacked, but ultimately one would fall at the other's hand. A pre-flop raising war resulted in Geilich's [as][5h] up against Middy's dominating [ad][jd]. It was Ludo who faced his demise, and the [qd][th][9h][jc][6h] board sealed his fate. Middleton is now back up to a starting stack of 25,000. --JS

6:20pm: Silver gets unlucky
Max Silver has had more good days than bad on the UKIPT but today wasn't one of them as he just got very unlucky to bust. Craig McCorkell, Nick Hicks, Morten Mortensen and Ben Jenkins are also out. -- NW

6:10pm: No need to look for action
The very next hand after Ivan Luca doubled up (see the 5:50pm post below), we saw a hand at the same table showing just how crazy poker can be sometimes. Having just joined the table, and with some action in front of him, David Jones shoved his short 8,500 stack and found a caller in the man to the his left, Kestutis Kristapaitis. However, when the two turned their hands over, there was only one you'd expect to see in a pre-flop all-in showdown.

Jones had [9h][9c], a respectable hand indeed, but Kristapaitis had called with the [4c][5c]. Jones was far in the lead before a painful flop of [4h][as][5h] gave Kristapaitis two pair. The [4s] turn simply kicked Jones when he was down, and he was down to needing one of the two remaining nines on the river (assuming nobody had folded one already). But there it was - out of nowehere - a miracle [9d] on the river. Justice? Maybe. Unexpected? Definitely. Jones now sits with 21,600. --JS

Blinds up: 400/800 ante 100

6:05pm: Famous fallers
We're down to 192 runners on Day 1C of the Main Event but with late registration now closed: Nick Hicks, Rumit Somaiya, Paul McTaggart, Kelly Saxby, Robert Tinnion, Mark Lane, Niall Farrell and Thiago Nishijima will all have to try tomorrow if they want to win UKIPT5 Nottingham. -- NW

Ukipt5_nottingham_main_event_day1c_rumit_somaiya.jpg

Rumit is out

5:50pm: High Roller champ doubles
After winning the High Roller last night for £46,800, Ivan Luca has just doubled his stack up to 46,700. The Argentine will be hoping for another deep run in the main event to cap off an already successful stay in Nottingham. --JS

Jenkins has work to do

5:30pm: Unlucky for Johnson
Paul Nunes has instantly made presence felt at his new table, albeit with the help of lady luck. Nunes and Mitchell Johnson found themselves all-in pre-flop, [As][qs] against Johnson's [ah][kh]. Nunes' hand was dominated, but only until the turn when the [qc] fell, putting him in front. With no help on the river, it was all she wrote for Mitchell Johnson, who had already used his re-buy option. Good game Mitch - on to the next one. --JS

5:20pm: Registration closes, action continues
We're over the halfway mark on Day 1C and the start of level seven marks the end of registration. The tournament board is showing that we had 261 entries and 24 re-entries for a total of 285 players today. We'll confirm that soon but around 205 of those players are still in. However, Jack Ellwood, David Mcconachie, Mathew Perry, Neil Raine, Ian Simpson, Martyn Frey, Adam Prickett and Chris Ferguson are all out. -- NW

UKIPT5 Nottingham: Alex Harriman climbs highest; leads after Day 1C

$

You could tell within 10 seconds of stepping inside the confines of Dusk Till Dawn that today was going to be a busy day. Some 30 minutes before play began the place was already bustling with expectant poker players eager to take their shot at the £1,000,000 guaranteed UKIPT5 Nottingham Main Event.

Some were back for the second (or third) bullet but many more were entering the fray for the first time and by the time late registration slammed shut 291 players (265 uniques and 26 re-entries) had swelled the prize pool; add them to the 178 who played during the first two starting flights and you get 469. More than double that will be needed tomorrow to make the guarantee, but this is Dusk Til Dawn and the UKIPT and it's the surest bet of the week.

Ukipt5_nottingham_main_event_day1c_alex_harriman.jpg

Harriman finished top of the chip charts

Another safe bet is that the main problem Alex Harriman is going to face between now and Day 2 at noon on Saturday is ensuring he turns up in sufficient time to unbag and then stack all his chips. He topped the 109 survivors from Day 1C with a massive 205,900 in chips. What's more remarkable is that he was as low as 7,000 before spinning it up to 120,000 within 30 minutes. "I bluffed it off to be honest," the 24-year-old recruitment headhunter told the PokerStars Blog. His resurgent spin up was down to being on the right side of two confrontations with ace-king. In the first he bested them with pocket eights and in another he got there against pocket sevens. The Londoner has been playing poker for four years, but having only recently switched to tournaments this is his first Main Event. Only time will tell if today proves to be 'beginners' luck.

Ukipt5_nottingham_main_event_day1c_john_keown.jpg

John Keown is well set for Day 2

He may have accumulated the most but John Keown (155,800), David Urban (147,700) and Demetrios Nikolaidis (144,000) can give themselves a big pat on the back for a hard day's work well rewarded by an ample chip stack. "I flopped two sets and got paid both times," said Keown, a bookmaker from Northern Ireland, at the end of play. "The rest was ducking and diving," he added. The likes of Brendan Liddy (142,300) Chris Dowling (137,600) and Rory Brown (133,700) will also no doubt be pleased with their efforts over the first ten levels of this event

Ukipt5_nottingham_main_event_day1b_jake_cody.jpg

It was another frustrating day for Cody

For the second day running Team PokerStars Pro was represented by Jake Cody, the triple-crown winner had ran up a stack on Day 1B but busted shortly before the day ended. Today he didn't even get to accomplish the first part of that list before being dispatched from the tournament. A day spent grinding whilst waiting for a spot to double dragged on until finally one arrived. Ace-king in the big blind facing a small blind shove is about as auto-call as it gets. Cody duly called off his final 18 big blinds to put his tournament life at risk and saw he was racing against pocket tens. There was one over card to the tens amongst the community cards but it wasn't the one he needed.

He'll be back tomorrow though as will fellow Team Pro Liv Boeree. They'll be in good company as the likes of: Ivan Luca, Tom Hall, Ian Simpson, Ryan Spittles, Dara Davey, Ben Heath, Rick Trigg, Alan Gold, Fraser Macintyre, Ludovich Geilich, Chris Ferguson, Deborah Worley-Roberts, Kelly Saxby, Morten Mortensen, Nick Hicks, Paul McTaggart, Mitch Johnson, Niall Farrell, Charlie Combs, Dean Lyall, Jack Ellwood and Dean Hutchison will have to try again tomorrow if they want to take this tournament down.

UKIPT5 Nottingham Day 1D: Level 1-6 updates (250/500 ante 50)

$

0

5pm: Break time
That's the end of level six, players can still re-enter during the break but as soon as level seven starts late registration will close. You'll find updates from level seven (and beyond) in a new post shortly. -- NW

4:55pm: The luck of the Irish

4:50pm: Ainsworth out
Jude Ainsworth has busted and has just ten minutes to re-buy before the late registration period closes. On a flop of [6d][7d][kc], Nick Weaver raised to 2,500. The Irishman made it an even 10,000 to go and it didn't take long for him to get his remaining 15,000 in the middle too after Weaver shoved. Ainsworth's [6c][7c] gave him two pair, but he was far behind Weaver's set of kings. The [8d] turn and [9d] river gave Weaver a flush and that was that. Good game Jude. --JS

4:45pm: King clouted by kings!
Rob 'hippy' King is part of the poker media pack but he was playing the game he loves to write about today having satellite into this event for just $12.

He'd dropped to about 16,000 by the time his tournament defining pot took place. There was a limp in early position from Martin Frey, King then raised to 1,250 and action passed to UKIPT4 Isle of Man 2 runner-up Ciaran Heaney, he got out some raising chips but before he could act Sameer Singh threw out a four-bet.

The floor was called and it was ruled that if action changed then Singh could take his bet back but if it remained the same his bet it would remain. Heaney, somewhat surprisingly decided to raise to 2,850 and Singh decided to fold. Back on Frey he called and King then moved all-in, Heaney took little to no time in moving in over the top and Frey folded.

King: [9s][9d]
Heaney: [Kd][Kh]

The board ran [Jc][As][7c][Ks][6c] and King was out. "I'd been card dead for three hours and I'm happy with how I played," he told the PokerStars Blog. -- NW

4:30pm: All she wrote for Angell
We saw Brett Angell get up out of his seat and feared the worst. Angell had indeed busted, and kindly talked to the PokerStars Blog about how it happened.

"I limped under-the-gun with pocket kings; limping under the gun is something I'd done about five or six times today. Brandon Sheils made it 1,500 from the big blind, another player flats and I make it 4,200. Sheils then shoves all-in for 30,000 and I snap. He had ace queen and turned an ace." Unlucky Brett. Will he fire another bullet? There's still time. --JS

4:25pm: Hicklin making moves
As you'll have read below (4:10pm post), we arrived at Carl Froch's table to find an empty seat where 'The Cobra' once sat. We caught a fun hand whilst we were there though - and it never even got to a flop. Brett Angell limped under-the-gun, and Jacob Hicklin raised it up to 1,500. That wasn't enough for Brendan Sheils on the button, however, and he made it 2,900 to go. Angell folded and the action was back on Hicklin who fiddled with his chips for a few seconds and then laid out yet another raise to 7,500, which got a fold from Sheils. Hicklin showed the [3h], which got a few giggles from around the table. --JS

4:20pm: The clock is ticking
There's just one more level of late registration to go, so if you don't want to get locked out of this tournament you've got around 45 minutes to get yourself to Dusk Till Dawn.

So far today there have been 479 unique entries and 35 re-entries. -- NW

Blinds up: 250/500, ante 50

4:10pm: Carl Froch knocked out
That's not a sentence you hear very often but 'The Cobra' has been eliminated from this tournament. We didn't see the first hand but we're told he had ace-king against an opponent who rivered trip threes. -- NW

4pm: Not you again!
There's a strong Irish contingent in the field today including Mick Graydon and Jude Ainsworth. The two are sharing a hotel room at this tournament and wouldn't you know it they're sat side by side at the moment!

They're not the only talented players from the Emerald Isle in the field today. It's a welcome return to the tour for Jason Tompkins, he final tabled UKIPT3 Dublin but has been living in Australia until recently so UKIPT's were off the menu. He's in form too having won the SCOOP Low Main Event on PokerStars.fr earlier this week.

Tour regulars like Dara O'Kearney, David Lappin, Dara Davey, Peter Barrable, Fergal Nealon and Tomasz Raniszewski add to the depth of talent from Ireland in the field today. They'll all be hoping to emulate Chris Dowling who finished amongst the chip leaders on Day 1C. -- NW

3:45pm: Get your coat Mac
"Wow wow wow," said Fraser Macintyre with a shake of the head, the Scotsman had just been rivered in a big pot and was now short on chips. He didn't show his cards at the end but you suspect from the way he double checked them twice that he had a strong hand. Let's rewind though...

We picked up the action on the [9h][7s][8s] flop, Macintyre - who was in early position - bet 1,100, his two opponents were the small and big blind and both David Hipperson and Paul Frost stuck around to see the [3h] peel off on fourth street. When he was checked to for a second time Macintyre - who finished second at EPT8 Madrid - wasted little time in betting 3,100, this time only Frost called.

The [4h] completed the board and after fidgeting for a bit Frost decided to lead for 6,000, Macintyre instantly flicked in a chip to signify the call and Frost showed [Ah][Jh] for the nuts and Macintyre's rueful reflective routine began. He's now short on chips. -- NW

Blinds up: 200/400, ante 25

3:35pm: Aces for the Conv
Speaking of the four bet klaxon, EPT commentator and member of the PokerStars Blog Marc Convey - the term's creator - just picked up a pot with pocket aces. The Conv is now up to 45,000. --JS

3:32pm: A Cody cold four-bet
Over at Jake Cody's table, Charles Denton opened to 800 but it was three-bet by Owain Carey to 1,900. Then the four bet klaxon starting wailing, as Cody made it 5,400 to go. Both players folded and Jake raked it in. --JS

3:30pm: She's not wrong
Team PokerStars Pro Liv Boeree sat down shortly before the end of level three. "I've played three pots and won one of them," was her succinct summing up of how her day has gone so far.

3:15pm: Exits
We're up to 472 entries in total but only 446 players remain in their seats. Alli Mallu, Vincent Mcaulay, Dan Carter, Jonathan Kalmar, James Walsh, Gareth Coles, Luke Davies, Jesus Castro Reyes, Zack Rosen, Fergal Ocathain and Jonathan Haughian are among those who've been eliminated. -- NW

3pm: Counts from the break
We're keeping track of the names, notables and big stacks over on the chip count page. Vamos Leo!

2:50pm: Shoving prowess
An interesting hand just took place at table 67. We arrived at the action as Hui Jin had three-bet an early-position open from Tamer Kamel to 2,500. Kamel, who made a deep in run in the main event at EPT Prague in December, opted to call but then Vamshi Chaitanya Vandanapu to his left shoved his entire 5,500 stack in the middle, and that's where things got interesting.

In what you'd call a standard 'isolation' spot, Jin decided to re-raise all-in - for a whopping 41,000. The sheer size of the raise gave Kamel trouble, as he clearly had a touch decision on his hands for his tournament life. He did eventually make the fold, telling the table he threw away pocket tens. It turned out to be a good fold, as Jin had [jc][js]. Up against Vandanapu's [ah][jh], the board ran out [jd][8h][qc][4h][tc] and Jin raked in a nice pot, eliminating his opponent. --JS

Blinds up: 150/300 ante 25

2:22pm: First break
Players are now on their first break of the day as level 3 comes to end. --JS

2:20pm: Boeree joins Luske
One face you can't help but see at Dusk Till Dawn is Liv Boeree's, due to the PokerStars Team Pro posters proudly on display around the venue. But now the real thing is here; Liv has joined Marcel Luske's table - we'll be sure to keep an eye on her movements. --JS

2:10pm: Sing with Jake!
Jake Cody usually runs a #PlaywithJake competition where if you can guess his exact cards in a hand he plays you get a 1% freeroll of anything he cashes for in that tournament. He's mixed it up in Nottingham though.

2:00pm: Duthie needs another bullet
As the founder of the EPT, John Duthie is a man who knows the game of poker very well indeed, which means he's also familiar with getting unlucky. Just in case he had forgotten, his first bullet in the main event has just reminded him.

We didn't catch the early action, but Duthie was all-in pre-flop with [6c][6s] and was called in a couple of spots. Eventually the board ran out [8d][2s][qd][qh][ks]. Vitas Gapsevicius's [ah][kd] had got there on the river and it was time to reload for Duthie, who went straight to the cashier for another life. --JS

1:50pm: 433 and counting
The field is up to 433 so far and is sure to grow further before late registration closes at the start of level seven. It may well be bolstered by Albert Sapiano, Jonathan Willis and Milorad Dobrijevic who have all been eliminated. -- NW

1:40pm: Doke panic
Dara 'Doke' O'Kearney was noticeable for his absence from UKIPT5 London in January. Noticeable because he's been the Online Qualifier of the Year for the past two seasons, racking up more satellite wins to the UKIPT than anybody else.

There was nothing sinister behind his absence though and he's playing today, he's got Neil 'heffs' Raine for company at his table.

Blinds up: 100/200 ante 25

1:30pm: Leo Margets in the field
Leo Margets flew in from Spain to play in the UKIPT5 Nottingham main event, and the Team PokerStars pro is in her seat among the action. An hour ago she tweeted about the tournament - our Spanish isn't great, but 'masivo!' speaks for itself. Good luck Leo! --JS

1:20pm: Jake Cody - meet your new tablemates
Trickett's room, a separate area in Dusk Till Dawn usually reserved for high stakes cash games, has possibly one of the toughest of the 73 (and counting) tables here today. Surinder Sunar, Tom Hall, and PokerStars Team Pro Jake Cody are all sat right next to each other. We're sure they'll tangle at some point throughout the course of action.

When arrived at the table, Cody was involved in a healthy pot with Ben Ridley-Swanson, who had lead out for 6,000 with the board reading [8c][ts][kd][ah][ks]. Cody just called and Ridley-Swanson tabled [qh][qs], but it wasn't enough to beat Cody's [qc][jc] for a straight. With the board paired on the river and plenty of potential full house combinations out there, it's no surprise Jake opted not to raise. The day is young, after all. --JS

1:15pm: Tann off to a bad start
The legend that is Willie Tann beckoned the PokerStars Blog over, he clearly had a tale to tell. "I walked into a set," he said wistfully. "I had two pair." He wasn't done yet though as his tale of woe continued. "The someone made a hero call against me, I had [Jx][9x] and the flop came [10x][3x][8x], I missed and he called me down with the seven-three!"

After those mishaps Tann is down to 8,000. "That's plenty," he said with a smile. -- NW

1:00pm: No casualties yet
It's good news for anybody railing - there was no bust outs in level 1. Players are now in the second of ten levels that they'll play today. --JS

Blinds up: 75/150

12:55pm: Legends of the game
Among the masses today are some true legends of the game. John Duthie, the founder of the EPT, is saying his hellos before taking his seat, while Willie 'The Dice Man' Tann is already in the action. Meanwhile, new tables are being announced all the time, with seats reserved for Surinder Sunar and the Flying Dutchman himself, Marcel Luske.

12:50pm: Start as you mean to go on
With so many tables it's not going to be hard to seek out some big pots, and one such hand was taking place at table 47. On a board of [4d][5d][8h][qh], Andrew Trujillo put out a bet of 1,650 which was called in two spots before Daniel Stanway bumped it up to 6,000. It was called around and four players went to a river, which was the [js]. It was checked around and Stanway flipped over [4c][4h] for a flopped set, which beat Trujillo's [as][qc]. With more than 24,000 in the pot, it's a nice start to the day for Stanway. --JS

12:45pm: He can talk and write but can he play?
Marc Convey is more likely to be found working on this tour or the EPT where he's held various roles including blogger and commentator. He recently picked up 'Media Person of the Year' at the European Poker Awards but today he's on the other side of the felt as he felt this tournament was too good to miss. He's liking the new structure too.

12:35pm: So. Many. Players.
There are already 395 players in the field today and there are so many notables that we can't list them all but to give you a flavour of who's playing we can tell you that Team PokerStars Pro Leo Margets, UKIPT4 leader board winner Dara Davey and UKIPT4 London champion Brett Angell are all playing today. We're going to keep track of them and other notables (as best we can) over on the chip count page though.

12:20pm: Some notables names
Play has begun here on Day 1D and Dusk Till Dawn is well and truly rammed, as expected. Despite the sea of people we still managed to catch some of the familiar faces who have taken their seats at the felt. Some of the notable names here already include:

Charlie Combes, United Kingdom, 25,000
Rich Trigg, United Kingdom, 25,000
Simon Hemsworth, United Kingdom, 25,000
Eleanor Gudger, United Kingdom, 25,000
Niall Farrell, United Kingdom, 25,000
Jack Salter, United Kingdom, 25,000
Keith Johnson, United Kingdom, 25,000
Brett Angell, United Kingdom, 25,000

We'll keep an eye on their progress as the day moves forward. --JS

12:15pm: Cody doesn't want that kind of hat-trick
Team PokerStars Pro Jake Cody played both Day 1B and Day 1C he's back again today but will be hoping he doesn't collect a hat-trick of bust outs.

12:10pm: They're off
Cards are in the air here at Dusk Till Dawn. -- NW

12pm: The first and last chance saloon
We've been here before, three times in fact but this time it feels different. For many this will be their first - and only - shot at the £1,000,000 GTD UKIPT5 Nottingham Main Event. For others this is their second, third or even fourth tilt at the title. But after today there are no more second or third chances, at the start of level seven this tournament becomes a straight freezeout.

All days of tournament poker are the same - the blinds rise and players depart - but no two are exactly alike. We don't know exactly what will happen today but what we can say with some certainty is that fourth and final starting day of this tournament will be by far the busiest. In fact the safest bet of the week is that the total number of runners today will be higher than the previous three start days combined. A total of 469 have tried so far, we may well get 600 today, perhaps more.

Ukipt5_nottingham_cody_froch.jpg

Would you steal this man's big blind?

Jake Cody is one of those who's back trying for a third time, fellow Team PokerStars Pro Liv Boeree is taking her first shot and IBF and WBA Super Middleweight champion Carl Froch is also playing today. The local lad was put through a poker boot camp by Cody earlier in the week so we're sure he's up for the fight.

Players are being called to their seats and action will be under way shortly.

Key UKIPT5 Nottingham Facts:
- 25,000 starting stack
- Blinds starting at 50/100 for 250 big blinds
- Day 1D is today, the field will then combine for the first time on Saturday before playing down to a winner on Sunday. Cue quaffing of champagne and awkward posing for the winners photo whilst the runner-up wishes he (or she) was anywhere else.
-The UKIPT structure has been tweaked for Season 5. Levels on Day 1 are now 45 minutes, on Day 2 that increases to 60 minutes.

8:40pm: After four long Day 1s, it's time for Day 2
Day 1D is now in the books. 214 players survived the ten-levels of play and will return tomorrow for Day 2 of the UKIPT5 Nottingham main event. We'll be back with a full round-up of the day's events shortly, including chip leaders and late bust-outs. Stay tuned. --JS

8:20pm: Last three hands
Dealers have been told to deal just three more hands before Day 1D play wraps up. --JS

8:10pm: Tough blow for Boeree
PokerStars Team Pro Liv Boeree just had a dent put in her chipstack with just 17 minutes of play remaining. We arrived on the flop, but Liv filled us in on the pre-flop action.

After an under-the-gun limp, Mark Hitchens raised it up and got Liv and two others to call. The flop was the [kc][8d][2h], which Hitchens saw as an opportunity to c-bet 3,200, which Boeree called. The turn was the [5c] and Hitchens checked over to Liv who bet 7,200, and got a call. The [as] on the river wasn't the prettiest card if either player had a king in their hands, and Hitchens bet enough to put Liv all-in. It was certainly a tough decision - "Did you just call down with ace-high and get there?" she asked her opponent. Ultimately she decided to fold her [kh][qd] and live to fight another battle - but Hitchens turned over [6c][7c] for nothing but a busted straight and flush draw. Liv's got 7,200 left and will be hoping to make something happen before play ends. --JS

Liv needs a double-up

8:10pm: So close
It's so close but yet so far for: Craig McCorkell, Tom Langely, Dean Clay, Fergal Nealon and Daniel Stacey who've all busted out during the last level of the day. -- NW

7:57pm: Tann and Trigg out
Unfortunately, right after our post 'The Dice Man' Willie Tann got knocked out. Some of the other names to have exited recently include Rick Trigg, Daxi Zhang, Stuart Toogood, Hak-mann Lee, and Ben Spraggons. --JS

Blinds up: 600/1,200, ante 200

7:50pm: A race as old as time
It's a classic. It's always been there. For as long as the game of Texas Hold 'em has existed, there have been pocket pair versus overcard battles that have seen many hearts broken and many lives changed for the better. Although it's still only Day 1 here in Nottingham, perhaps we've just witnessed one.

Rob Tinnion min-opened and Michael Jolyt raised it up. With the action back on Tinnion he raised again to 15,000 and Jolyt shoved. After some careful thought, Rob made the call and the pair were flipping for about 50,000 each. The racing hands? [jh][jd] for Tinnion, and [ac][kh] for Jolyt.

The flop put Jolyt in the lead, as it fell [3c][ks][2s]. The [6h] turn changed nothing, but the miracle [jc] on the river certainly did. Heartbreaking for Jolyt but triumphant for Tinnion, who now sits pretty with 108,000. --JS

7:40pm: Old guys can play too!
Willie Tann had a disastrous opening level, dropping to 8,000 at one point. He's since recovered and is going along nicely with 67,000 -- NW

7:30pm: The Poker Gods care not for reputation
Whilst some might claim they're unlucky at the poker table (they must be lucky in love then!) the truth is the Poker Gods - and the cards - have no memory and they aren't stacked against or in favour of any one individual. Got your aces cracked? That'll happen. As will busting a tournament and some big names have been left potless in Nottingham, which is after all the home of robbing the rich and giving to the poor. That's all a long winded way of saying that: David Lappin, Leigh Wiltshire, Caicai Huang, Andrew Hawksby, Sunil Mistri, Ivan Luca, Fraser Macintyre, Jude Ainsworth and Patryk Slusarek are all out.
286 players remain on Day 1D. -- NW

7:25pm: Silver wins the race
With a raise and a shove in front of him, Max Silver decided it was time to make a stand and called off his 7,200 short stack. Only the all-in player - Mark Roberts - called, and when cards were on their backs it was Silver's [as][js] against the [9c][9h] of Roberts. The [5d][6h][3s] flop was no help for Max - nor was the [qc] on the turn - but an ace from outer space arrived on the river and Max is now sitting with 21,500. --JS

7:10pm: Chip leaders
With two levels to go on Day 1D these are the players contesting the chip lead.

Sam Mitten-laurence, United Kingdom, 146,000
Charlie Combes, United Kingdom, 143,000
Carretero Santos, 136,000
Joao Almeida, Portugal, 132,000
Ian Bosley, United Kingdom, 130,000
Hui Jin, United Kingdom, 130,000
Phillip Mighall, United Kingdom, 130,000
Kestutis Kristapaitis, Lithuania, 117,000
Mark Hitchens, United Kingdom, 115,000
William Kassouf, United Kingdom, 112,000

Blinds up: 500/1,000, ante 100

6:50pm: And...break
The players are now on their final 20 minute recess of the day. -- NW

6:45pm: More gold for Gomez
Diego Gomez is situated at the same table as his compatriot Leo Margets. The Team PokerStars Pro, who has 44,000, looked on as Gomez tangled against Thales Salomao. The latter opened to 1,200 from under-the-gun+1 and Gomez defended his big blind. Both players checked the [6c][2h][6s] flop and the [Js] landed on the turn. Gomez checked again, Salomao bet 2,200 and called when Gomez check-raised to 4,600 total.
The river was the [3c] and a bet of 9,300 was enough to win the pot for Gomez, although Salomao tanked for a long time before folding. -- NW

6:40pm: Falling fast
Just 326 of the 557 players who entered today's Main Event remain as we approach the end of level eight here at Dusk Till Dawn. Among those on the rail are: Carl Froch (he re-entered and then busted), Ben Jenkins, Brett Angell, Gordon Huntly, Paul Simmons, Jack Ellwood and Lee Taylor. - NW

6:35pm: Tough hand for Cody
Jake Cody has had a lot of well-known tablemates today - Tom Hall, Surinder Sunar, Marcel Luske and now Liv Boeree - but unfortunately his tables keep breaking.

The last hand before Jake and Liv's table split, however, was a tough one for the PokerStars Team Pro. He opened to 1,900 and found two callers in the small and big blinds. The flop was [8h][9h][3d] and it was checked around to Jake who bet 2,700 and got one caller - Mehtab Shabir. The [qd] fell on the turn and Shabir checked once more, resulting in a 7,000 bet from Cody. After some interrogation and finding out that Jake had "started the hand with about 50,000", Shabir raised it up to 15,200, and Jake made the call. The river was the [5c] and Shabir put Jake all-in. He went deep into the tank for about four minutes but eventually decided to give it up. Shabir showed his hand - [9s][7s] for second pair - and Jake couldn't help but look like he regretted his decision.

Who will Jake and Liv have on their new tables? We'll soon find out. --JS

6:10pm: Luske on the up
Over at Jake Cody's table we noticed that Marcel Luske had joined him, sitting in the seat to his right. We found Luske among the action, raising to 1,800 and getting three-bet by Charles Denton to 3,000 (although he initially tried to raise to just 2,450 - something which intrigued the Flying Dutchman). Luske made the call and the flop came [2c][tc][ts], which was checked round - as was the [7s] turn. When the [3d] came on the river Luske led out for 4,000 and was quickly called by Denton, who mucked when Luske turned over [5c][7c] for two pair, tens and sevens.

What with Cody and Luske as neighbours, the table seemed like it might have been a fun one to rail, but unfortunately the table has now broke. Shame. --JS

5:45pm: The champ's chipping up
Speaking of champs, four-time super-middleweight boxing world champion Carl Froch seems to be faring better on his second bullet of the day after taking down a nice pot which took his chip stack up to 39,000.

Alex Goulder opened to 1,400 and Froch called in the small blind, as did Arvin Ravindran in the big. The flop was [4d][jh][7s] and it was checked around to Goulder who continued for 2,000. That wasn't enough for Froch, though, who doubled it to 4,000. Ravindran got out of the way, Goulder called, and we went heads-up to the turn. It was the [2d] and Froch thought about betting whilst tapping on his arm. "Was that a check?" Goulder asked, but the two players laughed it off. Froch's bet size was 3,000 and again Goulder called. The [kh] river led Froch to fire out a blue 5,000 chip, a bet Goulder would look up. It was a nice river for 'The Cobra' who turned over [ah][kd] for the winning hand, as Goulder mucked. --JS

Ivan Luca arrived just in time to buy in on Day 1D. He managed to become chipleader yesterday before busting not long after - will he fare better today? --JS

5:25pm: It's a lock out
Anyone who busts from this point on will not be able to re-buy as late registration has closed. Plenty of players have already gone broke today and opted not to re-buy. The likes of Nicolas Cardyn, Thomas High, Tim Davie, Dale Garrad, Tom Hall Tamer Kamel and Kelly Saxby are already on the rail. Perhaps they'll opt to play the £100,000 GTD Notts Cup which starts at 7pm tonight.

Remi Wyrzykiewicz reigns on Day 1D of UKIPT5 Nottingham

Ukipt5_nottingham_main_event_day1d_remigiusz_wyrzykiewicz.jpg

Remi 'ctrl+c' Wyrzykiewicz finished top of the chip charts

Whilst no poker day is alike their pattern is somewhat formulaic and set in stone. The blinds rise, players depart and someone ends the day as chip leader having accumulated significantly more than what they started with. But whilst today was the same, it was also different. You can read on below to find out who did well, who did less so and what to expect tomorrow but, the headline news arrived late on Day 1D and had nothing to do with the checking, raising and folding going on at the felt.

Yes, we're talking money here, which is the way we keep score in poker after all. When late registration closed and the numbers were totted up it was established that 1,026 players had entered the UKIPT5 Nottingham Main Event. Together they created a prize pool of exactly £1,000,000. Those riches will start getting dished out to the top 151 finishers tomorrow - during level 15 or 16 is our educated guess - but the big bucks won't be divvied up until Sunday. The biggest slice of the pie stands at a massive £182,000 - only twice on the UKIPT has anyone won more - a final table appearance will lock up £17,320, whilst a min-cash will swell your coffers to to the tune of £1,760. Not a bad return considering many satellited in for far less. You can see the full payout structure here.

Today was by far the busiest start day with 494 players showing up, a further 63 fired a second bullet meaning Day 1D surpassed the total for the three prior start days on its own. The general rule of thumb is that the bigger the field the bigger the chip leaders stack will be but that half-baked theory proved incorrect today as today's chip leader finished with fewer than the 205,900 Alex Harriman accumulated on Day 1C and the 190,900 Max Ladbrooke bagged on Wednesday.

Nonetheless Remi Wyrzykiewicz ran his stack all the way up to 189,600 to lead. The 24-year-old multi-table tournament player from Poznan, in Poland is rapidly growing in stature in both online and bricks and mortar environments. "I'm just starting out on a live career," he told us at EPT11 Malta last month. The Pole pipped Seun Oluwole who finished on an impressive 176,800 by the time play ended. For 26-year-old Oluwole, who works in IT within foreign exchange, it was a welcome return to the tour. Oluwole was a regular face during Seasons 2 and 3. "I chose work over poker," he said. "I really miss poker though, I'm very much a recreational fish these days." That may be but he put his day's progress down to 'doing what he used to do'. He'll be hoping he continues in that vein tomorrow.

Ukipt5_nottingham_main_event_day1d_seun_oluwole..jpg

It was just like old times for Oluwole

But of course Wyrzykiewicz and Oluwole wasn't the only ones to set themselves up for a run at the money as Jamie O'Connor (173,200) Hui Jin (169,000) and David La Ronde (168,100) also stacked them high today and will be back tomorrow in good spirits.

As will Team PokerStars Pro Jake Cody, it was third time lucky for Cody today as he misfired on Day 1B and Day 1C but got a bullet to hit the target today. His stack of 17,300 might equate to fewer than 11 big blinds but he was still smiling at the end of play. "I'm still in the mix," he said with a grin.

So too is Leo Margets, the Spaniard had a topsy-turvy day but will return with 32,900 - a touch over 20 big blinds - and will be looking for her maiden UKIPT cash tomorrow.

Unfortunately Liv Boeree would not be so lucky. She was looking set fair until the final level of the night when an opponent ran a river bluff on her in a weird spot. "What bluffs can he have there?" she said. That left her short and she exited on the last hand of play.

She joined a long list of exalted poker stars on the rail as only roughly 211 of the 557 who entered today survived: John Duthie, Dara O'Kearney, Max Silver, Owain Carey, Fergal Nealon, David Lappin, Craig McCorkell, Ian Simpson, Kelly Saxby, Brett Angell, Willie Tann, Ben Heath, Rick Trigg, Ivan Luca, Jude Ainsworth, Jack Ellwood and Super-middleweight World Champion boxer Carl Froch were just some of those knocked out today.

The flying Dutchman gained some traction today

You can catch up on all today's action here and here, we'll be back at noon tomorrow to cover: the inevitable start of day two carnage, the tense bubble period, the post bubble bust out bonanza and the march to the final table. For now though goodnight.

UKIPT5 Nottingham Day 2: Level 11-16 updates (2,500/5,000 ante 500)

6:25pm: Dinner break
The remaining players are now taking a well-earned dinner break. We'll be back in an hour with a new post covering updates from Level 17-21.

6:20pm: What a way to survive
A very entertaining hand just took place over on Charlie Combes' table. Kestutis Kristapaitis made a raise ("he's played every hand since has sat down," Combes told us) and Luke Perrot shoved for his remaining chips - about 40,000. It was folded around to Daniel Aslund who flatted, as did the original raiser. Perrot was over the side pot and had a chance to triple up, but play would continue between the other two.

The flop came [7d][qs][8s] and both players checked. The [6d] arrived on the turn and this time Aslund led out for 30,000, which Kristapaitis called. Aslund then checked the [6h] river, resulting in the Lithuanian moving all in. It was an absolutely agonising decision for Aslund, meanwhile Perrot waited patiently to discover his fate. With so much action after his all-in, he can't have been too confident holding just [ks][jd] for only king high.

It took Aslund a good five minutes and eventually the clock was called and counted all the way down. His hand was dead he frustratingly threw it into the muck, only for Kristapaitis to turn over [js][3s] for nothing but a busted flush draw. Perrot was stunned and now sits with 136,000; it just goes to show, it's not over until it's over. --JS

6:10pm: More chopping than a lumberjack competition
Ben Vinson and Richard Blacklock just tangled in a pot that reached showdown...

Vinson opened to 11,500 from the cut off and Blacklock peeled from the small blind. On the [5s][2c][4c] flop Blacklock checked and then called Vinson's c-bet of 14,000. The [6h] was an interesting turn card, Vinson bet again - this time 19,000 - and again Blacklock called. The [3h] river put a straight on board and both players elected to take a free showdown. Blacklock opend [As][Jh] and Vinson showed [Qs][9s]. Split pot! -- NW

6pm: One in, one out
We've already lost two full tables of players since the bubble burst and Adam Owen is one of those who's departed.

He three-bet shoved for 85,500 over the top of Sam Mitten-laurence's 13,000 chip open. Two seats to his left Chris Gordon then shoved for 94,500 and Mitten-laurence left them to it.

The [4s][Tc][Jd][5s][Ad] board brought no joy for Owen and he was out in 138th place.

Meanwhile on another table.... Renee Xie was all-in for 30,000 and had been called in two spots. On the [6s][Jd][3c] flop Robert White shoved and Ian Gwynne passed. Xie tabled [As][Ks] and stood up to leave, but she was ahead of White's [Ah][Qd]. The [8h] turn and [9c] river kept her in front and she sat back down. "I thought I must be beat," she said as she began stacking her chips. -- NW

5:50pm: Gulbar Akram first to collect
The 'beard of the tournament' award to Mr. Gulbar Akram, and he was the first person to bust out after the bubble had burst. Akram collects £1,760 for his efforts. --JS

5:30pm: Lucky double for Day 1D Chipleader
Remi 'ctrl+c' Wyrzykiewicz went from being the chipleader at the end of his Day 1 to almost going out on the stone bubble here on Day 2. He got it in with [ah][jh] against Jamie O'Connor's [ac][ks] but the [js] arrived on the turn to give him the double up. He now sits with 281,500. --JS

5:20pm: Chuck Khuu bubbles UKIPT5 Nottingham
Some bubbles take an age to burst, others are gone before they even arrived and it was one of the latter in Nottingham as there was no hand for hand play on the bubble as a player busted on the hand before play was due to go hand for hand.

That player was Chuck Khuu, he three-bet shoved for 111,000 over the top of an 11,000 chip open from Ben Longstaff and a call from Alexander Beck. When it folded back to Longstaff he got a count of the shove and called, Beck meanwhile passed.

Longstaff: [Qs][Qd]
Khuu: [Ah][Jh]

The board ran [Tc][8h][9h][8s][5s] and a dejected Khuu couldn't believe what had happened. Longstaff is up to 560,000 and is the chip leader, everyone else - regardless of stack - is now in the money with £1,760 locked up. -- NW

5:20pm: Blacklock on how he got his stack
We're now just three from the money and Richard Blacklock is one of the biggest stacks in the room. He was kind enough to tell us how he got his stack of 465,000

His big boost came in a hand against a Dutch player, Blacklock was the effective stack with 210,000 and opened to 5,100 (at 1,200/2,400) from the cut off with [7h][6h], his opponent three-bet to 15,000 from the small blind and Blacklock called. The flop was [6][3][2] with one heart and Blacklock called a bet of 24,000. The turn was the [Kh] and Blacklock paid 35,000 to stick around. On the [6s] river his opponent led for 75,000, Blacklock shoved for 135,000 and his opponent called with [6][4] so the seven played and Blacklock rocketed up the chip counts. --NW

Blinds up: 2,500/5,000, ante 500

5:15pm: Mind on the money and money on the mind
Play has really tightened up over the past half an hour as we approach the bubble. We're just seven players away now and the short stacks will be hoping to hang on long enough to get a £1,760 payout. A quick walk around the room and we saw Jamie O'Connor, Charlie Combes and Ludovic Geilich continue to put the pressure on. --JS

5pm: Just a dozen down to go
Just 164 players remain, with 151 getting paid, when 12 players are eliminated we'll be on the bubble. Among those to have exited recently are: Rhys Jones, Marc McDonnell, Jason Wheeler, Emma Tolley and Chris Dowling. --NW

4:45pm: Counts

4:35pm: Higgins says goodbye
We've just seen Simon Higgins eliminated from the tournament. He got his 28,500 stack in with [6c][6h] against Alex Lindop's [ac][qs], but a queen on the flop and another on the turn sealed Higgins' fate. Until next time, Simon. --JS

4:25pm: Mo chips, no problem
Mohamed Khaled just spiked a river card in a three-way all-in to survive and climb to 85,000. He held [As][9c], Frank Bastow had [Kc][Jh] and an unknown player held pocket sevens. The [Qd][3h][Jc][Ts][Ks] run out gaev Khaled the pot. -- NW

3:55pm: Break time
The 184 remaining players are now on a 20 minute break, during which the T100 chips will be raced off. --NW

3:45pm: Luske amongst the fallers
The Flying Dutchman has had his wings clipped as Marcel Lukse was just eliminated from this tournament in 196th place. Brandon Sheils, Harprit Singh Gurnam, Bob Defilet, Paul Zimbler, Ryan Spittles and Felix Stephensen are also out. --NW

3:35pm: Sick run out for Deadman
A dejected looking Simon Deadman was sitting at a table in the bar area, a sure sign that he'd recently exited the tournament. He was kind enough to fill us in on how he busted though. "It was a pretty sick one to be honest," he began. "Not the hand, but the run out. Under-the-gun opened to 6,500, next to act I jammed about 65,000 with pocket jacks and got a call from seat eight (Patrick Clarke) with ace-king. The flop was [J][6][7] and we didn't win."

Deadman went on to say that the turn was the [Ts] and the river the [Qs] giving Clarke both a straight and a flush. Clarke, who won the Irish Open last year, is up to 335,000. -- NW

3:20pm: Tinnion going strong
Two time Sunday Million winner Rob Tinnion is having a great Day 2 so far, sitting with about 390,000 which might be enough for the chip lead. --JS

3:10pm: Gomez takes a knock
The stack of former chipleader Diego Gomez just took a small hit. After opening to 6,200 he was three-bet by Liam O'Brien, who clicked it back for 12,400. Diego made a quick call and the first of five potential community cards were [7c][5d][7h]. Gomez checked and O'Brien continued for around 16,000. It was called and the turn brought the [ad], which both players checked. The river was an [8h] and O'Brien led for 31,000 after it was checked to him. Gomez threw out one black 100 chip to indicate a call but mucked when O'Brien showed [8d][8c] for trips. --JS

3:05pm: Fallers
We're down to just 217 players in the Main Event (151 get paid) some of those to miss out on the money are: Philip Butt, Jason Beazley, Lynne Beaumont, Ben Martin, Chris Sly, Jeff Kimber and overnight chip leader Alexander Harriman. -- NW

3pm: Big hand for Bosley
Our thanks to Stuart Kinghorn for telling us about a big hand involving his friend Ian 'Boz' Bosley, who is now one of the chip leaders.

Both Bosley and his opponent started the hand with around 180,000 and the majority of those chips went in on the turn of a [7][A][10][6] board, Bosely held pocket sevens, his opponent [9][8], however a ten on the river gave Bosley a house and a chip stack of 360,000. He's right up there now. -- NW

2:45pm: Clock called on Taylor
An interesting - and long - hand just took place. Let's start at the beginning.

It was folded around to Andrew Murphy who moved all-in for his last 17,000. Dean Hutchinson made the call and it was folded to Guy Taylor in the big blind, who seemingly decided it was a good opportunity to try and isolate the all-in player. He made it 38,000 which meant Hutchinson needed to put it another 21,000 to see a flop. He made the call, however, and we had a large side pot brewing whilst Murphy could only watch.

The flop was [9h][ad][3s], which saw Taylor continue his aggression with a 25,000 bet. Hutchinson made the call, and Murphy started to get up as if he knew his tournament was over. He'd end up hanging around a bit longer though, as the [3h] turn was a long one.

Taylor checked and Hutchinson bet 35,000, which caused Taylor to go deep into the tank. After about five minutes the clock was called, and the seconds for a decision to be made were ticking down. With just three seconds left to act, Taylor made the call and we went to the river.

This street didn't take long, though; it was checked around and Taylor announced "just an ace". Murphy showed the [kc][qc] and was knocked out, whilst Hutchinson's pocket queens were also defeated. With [as][qd], Taylor raked in a massive pot of around 216,000. --JS

2:30pm: Swell start for Wellend
Mike Wellend is a cash game player who plays the occasional live tournament. He came back today with just 17,000 but has gone on some spin up and now sits with 220,000. "I got lucky when I four-bet shoved ace-queen into kings and got there, but the big one was when I had queens and knocked out two players in the same hand, they had nines and ace-king," he told us. -- NW

2:20pm: Notable knock-outs
Spome of the players to have exited the tournament since our last check at 1:30pm include 'Greek Jack' Kyriacos Dionysiou, Iaron Lightbourne, Mark McClusky, Joe Laming, Jeff Kimber and John Keown.

2:10pm: Aslund reps an ace
After a [as][ah][7s] flop fell, Keith Johnson checked over to Daniel Aslund who bet 8,000. Johnson called and we saw a turn - the [4h]. Johnson checked again and Aslund fired out for 14,700, leaving himself 16,500 behind. He was representing an ace and told a consistent story - one that Johnson believed as he laid his hand down. Not all stories are true, of course; Aslund showed the [ks][6h] for complete air. --JS

2pm: Chip leaders
We did a whip round during the break and can tell you that the players listed below are currently bossing this tournament:

Diego Gomez, Spain, PokerStars Qualifier, 315,000
Ben Winsor, United Kingdom, 280,000
Ian Gwynne, United Kingdom, 257,000
Sunil Pancholi, United Kingdom, 245,000
David La Ronde, United Kingdom, 216,000
Ben Longstaff, United Kingdom, 215,000
Michiel Jonker, Netherlands, 210,000
Michael Welland, United Kingdom, 205,000
William Dorey, United Kingdom, 196,000
Bob Defilet, Netherlands, PokerStars Qualifier, 195,000

1:50pm: Make it an hour
The days of 45 minute levels are no more - from now on each level will be an hour. Level 13 has just begun and we'll be playing seven more today. --JS

Blinds up: 1,200/2,400, ante 300

1:36pm: First break of the day
After three levels of play the remaining field have gone on a break. We'll bring you details on some of the room's biggest stacks shortly. --JS

1:35pm: Set over set
As most players were climbing out of their seats for the first break, a pot was playing out at Paul 'Action' Jackson's table that we thought would be worth sticking around for. The flop was [9h][jc][4d] and Jakub Krehla had made it 8,200. Jackson three-bet to 21,000 before Daniel Beswick shoved for 62,400. Krehla called quickly and Jackson had a decision on his hands - he clearly had a hand he liked but eventually let it go. It's a good thing he did, as Krehla had flopped a set with [4c][4s]. That's the problem with bottom sets though - there are always two more potential sets out there. Beswick had [jd][jh] and as the turn and river changed nothing, he more than doubled up to around 146,000. --JS

1:30pm: The 100 club
In the opening two level we had 100 eliminations. Members of that unwanted club include: Camilla Reventlow, Paul Nunes, John Eames, Ben Jackson, Tom Middleton, Jon Wong, Jack Salter, Padraig O'Neill and Bryn Kenney. --NW

1:15pm: Trattou put to tough decision
A curious hand just played out at table 38 it lasted about 10 minutes and at the end Mario Trattou was put to a decision for his entire stack.

The action was started by James Tomlin, who raised to 4,500 from under-the-gun, two seats along David Urban capped his cards took a long look around the table and then sat still for so long you wondered if he realised the action was on him. Evidently he did as he three-bet to 10,700, Trattou called this bet from the hijack and when it folded back to him so did Tomlin.

The flop fell [3s][8c][7s] and three checks followed and the dealer burned and turned the [3h], both players then checked to Trattou, he bet 11,300 and only Urban called. The [6h] completed the board, Urban checked, Trattou fired out a bet of 17,000 and Urban responded with a check-raise all-in. This stunned Trattou, he counted out his remaining stack - about 85,000 - and then tank folded. Pot to Urban. -- NW

1:10pm: Combes calls correctly
We arrived at the scene as Charlie 'JIZOINT' Combes, one of the UK's most successful online tournament players, faced a healthy river bet. The board read [8c][2s][jh][7d][3s] and Aleks Dimitrov had fired out 18,500 back to Combes, who studied the board and thought intently for a minute or so. He ended up making the call, and when he turned over [ac][kd] for just ace high, Dimitrov mucked. Nice call Charlie. --JS

1:05pm: Blanco doesn't get a blank board
All in and at risk of being eliminated Lucas Blanco needed his pocket nines to hold against Sunil Pancholi's [As][Qs]. The [Qc][Kc][3c][8d][7s] board favoured the big stack though. "You can't miss," said one of Pancholi's tablemates. He was already a big stack at the start of play and his roll is continuing. -- NW

Blinds up: 1,000/2,000, ante 300

12:50pm: Knocked-out names

Mark McVey
Frank Romanello

12:40pm: Day 2 curse continues for Convey
The bust-outs are coming thick and fast during the first level of play. One player who didn't make it to Level 2 is EPT commentator and member of the PokerStars Blog Marc Convey, who walked us through his brief Day 2.

"I'd lost a big pot to Diego Gomez and was down to about 20,000, but it was a hand I could have gone broke in. Then there was a limp from under the gun and seat three (Robert Moss) raised to 5,000. I had pocket jacks and we got it in - he had ace king and sadly it wasn't to be. My curse of Day 2s continues."

Unlucky Marc - good game. --JS

Ukipt5_nottingham_main_event_day2_marc_convey.jpg

The Conv has left the building

12:35pm: Cody can't get there
Jake Cody only came back with a touch over 10 big blinds and sadly the spin up did not go well. He told the PokerStars Blog: "I got it in with a straight flush draw but missed," further investigation unearthed the fact that Cody had [As][5s] on a [9][6][4][7] two spade board but his opponent held [10][8] for the straight.

It's been a bad level for Team PokerStars Pro as Leo Margets is also out. -- NW

12:20pm: Mixed feelings around the room
Making it through to Day 2 in any tournament is always exciting, but that doesn't mean that there isn't any trepidation. Some players pray to the Gods:

Others curse their table draw:

And others regret last night's decisions:

--JS

12:10pm: Team Pros unite
With 383 players and a completely random seat draw process, what are the chances that the two remaining PokerStars Team Pros would end up on the same table? We'll leave the maths to you - but that's exactly what's happened as Jake Cody and Leo Margets are both seated together at the beginning of Day 2. --JS

12:05pm: Let's go for Day 2
For the last four days eyes have been glued to the tournament screen waiting for it to tick to 1,000 and reach the guarantee on this £1,000,0000 event. Today eyes will be glued to it waiting for the number to drop lower. The magic number everyone is waiting for is 151. That's how many people will get paid in this event. A total of 381 players return today and we think we'll reach the money sometimes around level 15. We'll be playing 11 levels in total today so will get well beyond the bubble bursting, even if we don't get to the final table.

Team PokerStars Pro is represented by Jake Cody and Leo Margets today, play has just started, expect plenty of early bustouts. -- NW

It's all over here on Day 2 and chips are being bagged as we speak. We'll be back shortly with a full round-up of all the day's action, including the chip leaders going into the third and final day tomorrow. --JS

12:38am: Last three hands
There'll be just three more hands tonight - will there be any last-minute bust outs? Stay tuned. --JS

12:30am: Gutsy bluff gets through
It's late in the day but play is as lively as ever. Usman Siddique opened to 33,000 pre-flop under the gun, and found only one caller in the man to his right - Lithuanian player Kestutis Kristapaitis. The flop came [9s][ac][9h] and both players checked. The [5s] fell on fourth street and it was checked to Kristapaitis who bed 62,000, which Siddique called. The river brought the [jh], and after checking again Kristapaitis moved all in for 317,000. It was clearly a tough decision for Siddique, who counted out the chips. Eventually, though, he folded showing the [js] - and in return, Kristapaitis showed his hand: [7c][4s]. The big bluff got the job done. --JS

12:10am: Vinson sniffs out the bluff
There have been some great calls in this tournament for large amounts of chips, and the one we just witnessed is certainly up there. PokerStars Qualifier Foyzul Hussein min-raised from under the gun and found a caller from Ben Vinson in the big blind. The flop was [7h][3s][8s], which Vinson checked to the raiser. Hussein made it 30,000 but now Vinson raised - a check-raise to 93,000. The bet was called and we saw the [2h] on the turn, which both players checked. Vinson checked again on the [5c] river and Hussein put out a chunky bet of 127,000. In hindsight, Vinson really didn't take long to call - and as soon as he did Hussein flicked his cards into the muck. Vinson tabled [kh][qs] for just king-high, but it was the winning hand. --JS

12am: Top of the chip charts
As the last level of the day got under way these were the stacks of the chip leaders, it's still David Clarkson who leads but Jav Fernandez and Richard Jones are hot on his heels.

The players are on their final break of the day. -- NW

11:42pm: Can anyone keep up with Jones?
Richard Jones is up to 1,600,000 and is basically tied for the chip lead with David Clarkson. The reason for that is because it was Jones who eliminated David La Ronde and Jones said: "You miss all the good hands," to the PokerStars Blog before filling us in on what happened.

In the hand in question Jones raised with ace-jack and La Ronde called with [Qh][2h]. The flop came [Ah][Jh][Jx], Jones bet and La Ronde called. The [4h] turn completed La Ronde's flush and this is where Jones got sneaky. He checked, La Ronde bet, Jones raised, La Ronde moved all-in, Jones called and La Ronde was drawing dead.

Patrick Clark is also at that table and has close to 1,300,000. -- NW

11:40pm: All in for Suryanarayanan
Just as in our 11:10pm update, this is another case of a hand playing itself. Prassanna Suryanarayanan opened to 56,000 and Marten Martensen three-bet to 125,000. That didn't scare Prassanna, however, as he shoved all in for 321,000 and got a quick caller in Mortensen who turned over [jd][js]. It was a race, and the initial raiser would need either an ace or a king (or running cards) to win with his [as][kc]. Lucky for him, the first card out the window was an ace and the board fell [ad][7s][8s][7h][8d]. It's a nice double up, and Suryanarayanan is now sitting with about 660,000. --JS

11:35pm: No double for Dean
UKIPT4 Edinburgh champion Dean Hutchison has just been sent tumbling out of this tournament in 47th place, long time chip leader David La Ronde is also out, he finished 46th. Both collect £3,200. -- NW

11:30pm: Louis at the double
Leon Louis was down to just 64,000 when he moved all-in from the big blind over the top of Andrew Hulme's 25,000 open, Hulme instantly called off the extra and it was time for showdown.

Hulme: [Jd][Td]
Louis: [Ks][6h]

A [9h][9s][3s][6c][2d] board gave Louis the win, he's up to around 150,000 whilst Hulme slips to 215,000. -- NW

Ukipt5_nottingham_main_event_day2_leon_louis.jpg

Louis is down but not out

11:10pm: Blind on blind battle leads to exit for Stanway
You can file this hand under 'it was always going in'. The action folded to Daniel Stanway in the small blind and he moved all-in for 185,000 - around 15 big blinds - and Foyzul Hussein made a quick call from the big blind - he covered Stanway but not by much.

Hussein: [Ac][Jh]
Stanway: [As][Td]

The five community cards failed to help Stanway and he was on his way in 50th place, earning £3,200. -- NW

11:05pm: A frustrating lack of action for Pancholi
After limping in late position, Sunil Pancholi saw the small blind complete and the big blind check. The flop fell [7h][kc][8d] and Kestutis Kristapaitis and Richard Jones checked it over to Pancholi, who readied 32,000 of his chips and pushed them into the middle of the felt. Both players called and the turn was the [2c]. It was checked to Pancholi again and this time he made it 50,000 to go. Both Kristapaitis and Jones threw their cards away and Pancholi frustratingly tossed his into the muck - but not without flashing pocket sevens for a flopped set. --JS

10:55pm: Raine and Winsor sent packing by Jones
Double elimination! Our thanks to Neil Raine and Ben Winsor for telling us about the huge pot that saw them both eliminated from this tournament and in the process boost Richard Jones to a stack of over 1,100,000.

Pre-flop Raine raised to 32,000 from under-the-gun from a stack of 400,000 with [A][Q], he picked up three callers, Jones - who was under-the-gun+1, Winsor (small blind) and Kestutis Kristapaitis (big blinds).
The [A][Q][8] flop looked decent enough for his hand and Raine c-bet, Jones flat called and Winsor then moved all-in for 260,000 total. Back on Raine he moved all-in over the top and Jones then called both shoves. Winsor had [J][T], whilst Jones had flopped a set of eights.

The board bricked off and Raine and Winsor exited in 54th and 55th place respectively. --NW

Knot Winsor's day

10:45pm: Two monsters for Taylor
In just two hands Guy Taylor has rocketed himself into a big stack. The first hand - his [js][jd] all-in pre against an opponent's [9s][9c] - shot him up to 500,000. Now, after cracking aces with [th][ts] to knock out Michael Welland, Taylor is up to around 780,000. --JS

Blinds up: 6,000/12000, ante 2,000

10:35pm: Longstaff lays down jacks
Oliver Waters raised to 24,000 from under-the-gun and Ben Longstaff then three-bet to 50,000 from the cut-off. Next to act Chris Gordon four-bet all-in for 281,000 total and it passed back to Walter. He folded fairly quickly, Longstaff tanked before he too folded, showing [Js][Jh] as he did so. -- NW

10:25pm: We have a new chipleader
David Clarkson has just won a massive pot of 1,600,000 - good enough for the chiplead.

Rob Tinnion is the player who has boosted Clarkson's stack. Both players started the hand with around 800,000, and Tinnion led for 70,000 on the [2s][7s][ts] flop, but was raised by Clarkson to 170,000. After making the call, the turn was the [8c] and this is when Tinnion decided to shove his remaining chips - around 500,000. Clarkson made the call with [qs][js] for a flopped flush, whilst Tinnion needed a lot of help to improve his [ks][jd]. A spade didn't come on the river - it was the [ac] - and Clarkson has catapulted into the lead.

Tinnion will collect £2,710 for his 60th place finish. --JS

10:05pm: Martinez gets there
Guy Taylor was stewing after Raul Martinez rivered him in a big pot. Taylor bet 95,000 on the river of a [6s][6c][Th][7c][4c] board and was surprised when Martinez raised to 220,000.

He spent a long time thinking about his decision, checking his cards on more than one occasion and separating the chips needed to call from his stack. And call he did, Martinez showed [4d][4s] for a full house and Taylor looked disgusted as he mucked his cards. He's down to 300,000 whilst Martinez is up to 530,000. -- NW

9:55pm: One-two knockout punch for Tim Chung
A couple of brutal hands in a row for Tim Chung have seen him exit this tournament. In the first there was unknown betting action on a [8s][4h][Td][3d][7d] board, at this point Chung bet 60,000 and Dean Hutchison raised to 160,000 total. Chung near insta-folded [Js][9c] face-up.

That left him with around 100,000 (10 big blinds) and they went in the next hand with [Ad][4d], Michiel Jonker had [As][Td] and held on a [2d][Js][Th][3c][Js] board. -- NW

Blinds up: 5,000/10,000, ante 1,000

9:20pm: Last break of Day 2
We're on the final break of the day. 64 players remain. --JS

9:10pm: Chipleader takes a hit
David La Ronde has been an overwhelming chipleader for the past few levels, but it's not all smooth sailing. On a board of [9d][td][7s][tc], DLR bet 29,000 and got a call from Ben Winsor. The river came the [2c] and La Ronde checked over to Winsor, who shoved all in for 116,000. It's worth noting there was already around 60,000 in the pot going to the turn, so add the 58,000 and it was practically a pot-sized shove from Winsor. DLR made the call but his [6c][6h] were no good against his opponent's [ks][9s].

Will David La Ronde still top the chip counts? We're about to find out - check back shortly for an update. --JS

9:10pm: So many diamonds
Dusk Till Dawn regular Ian Gascoigne has just been eliminated in 76th place and was kind enough to fill us in on his exit hand from this tournament and it was definitely one to file under 'brutal'. Playing a stack of 250,000 he min-raised to 20,000 from under-the-gun with [6d][5d] and found a caller in the shape of UKIPT4 Edinburgh champion Dean Hutchison, who was the big blind.

The [8d][7d][Ad] flop looked like gin for Gascoigne and a series of bets saw all the chips go into the middle, Hutchison though had [Td][9d] and Gascoigne was in worse shape than he can ever have imagined. The board bricked out and as Gascoigne said: "that's poker," before adding. "I've loved this comp though, when's the next one?"

Well Ian we can tell you, the next one takes place in Marbella June 15th-21st.

Ukipt5_nottingham_main_event_day2_ian_gascoigne.jpg

Gascoigne's diamonds turned to rhinestones

8:55pm: Miah vs Judgedredd13
Daniel 'judgedredd13' Charlton, a feared online player with more than $1.7 million in tournament winnings, min-opened and got three-bet by Uzzol Miah to 36,000. Charlton moved over the top and bet enough to put Miah all-in. Naturally it wasn't a decision he was going to make lightly. He went deep into the tank but found a call a few minutes later with [qh][qd]. Judgedredd13 had the [9h][9d] and found no help on the flop, turn or river, so it's a nice double up for Miah to 663,000 - one of the room's largest stacks. Charlton is still in the mix, mind. --JS

8:50pm: Two hands, two exits
All ins all over the place to tell you about...

Kestutis Kristapaitis opened to 16,000 from early position, Brynjar Bjarkason three-bet shoved to 158,000 total and Sunil Pancholi tanked before folding what he later said was ace-queen. Kristapaitis though had enough of a hand to call with, did just that and showed [As][Js]. It was ahead of Bjarkason's [Qh][9h] and despite a sweat, stayed ahead on the [Td][4h][6h][Ah][2c] board. Kristapaitis is now up to 580,000.

Meanwhile on the adjacent table Hak-hyun Lee was all-in with pocket tens and in good shape against Robert Machin's pocket sixes. The Poker Gods had other ideas though as the board ran [7c][7s][Qh][Kc][6h] to eliminate him. Machin climbs to 380,000.

72 players remain. -- NW

8:40pm: Sound the three-way all in klaxon!
Action, action and more action as we just witnessed a three-way all-in. It was Uzzol Miah who got the action going, raising to 16,000 from middle position. James Dorrance then shoved from the cut off for 40,000 and Juan Riera then overshoved from 116,000 from the small blind. Back on Miah he got a count and then called.

Riera: [Kh][Qc]
Dorrance: [Qh][Jh]
Miah: [Jd][Td]

The board came [Js][Ac][4d][4s][Jc] giving both Miah and Dorrance a house and eliminating Riera. Although the main pot was chopped, Miah took the side pot. -- NW

8:30pm: Tompkins out - and he's not alone
We just witnessed a big three-way all-in pot which knocked out both recent SCOOP winner Jason Tompkins and his table-neighbour Luke Haward. The two were all-in pre-flop and called by Sergio Aido, who had [jc][jd]. Neither Tompkins' [6s][6h] nor Haward's [as][js] could improve and both were sent to the cashier to collect £2,280 each. Aido is now one of the big stacks in the room with 666,000. --JS

8:25pm: No derailing the DLR today
Despite just losing a small pot to Kestutis Kristapaitis, where he folded to a river bet, David La Ronde is still the overwhelming chip leader in this event. He's got 920,000 which is almost three times the average stack, which is currently 296,000. He's at the same table as Patrick Clarke and the Irish Open winner is the second biggest stack in the room with 760,000. If they go to war that could create one humongous stack. -- NW

Blinds up: 4,000/8,000, ante 1,000

8:15pm: Double up for Davey
Ireland's Dara Davey has just doubled up to around 180,000. He got his [ks][kh] in against Richard Blacklock's [9s][9h] pre-flop, and the [3d][2s][3s][ac][jc] was a safe one. --JS

8pm: Well done Jamie Wilson
They say that only the person who wins a poker tournament is ever happy, but they'll be at least two contented poker players at the end of this tournament. A big hand and well played to PokerStars Qualifier Jamie Wilson, who just finished 111th in the Main Event, cashing for £2,030. That's some return on his investment as Wilson qualified for just £8 and was delighted to make the money.

Although he's been playing poker for 10 years this is 34-year-old Wilson's first big live tournament. "I played a £2 re-buy and spent £8 in that and then won my seat in a £162 satellite," the Bournemouth based finance worker told us. "I didn't realise it was for a tournament like this though," he added. Despite a brutal exit where he ran kings into aces Wilson is determined to qualify for another UKIPT and play more live events. "I'm going to use some of my main winnings to play more qualifiers for sure," he said.

Well played Jamie, we hope to see you at another UKIPT event soon. -- NW

8:00pm: Dobson heads to the rail
We heard an 'all-in and a call' chant from the dealer over at table 11 and turned around to see Ben Dobson up and out his chair. We caught up with the man known as 'f3nix35' online as he was waiting at the cashier's desk and he kindly, and succinctly, ran us through his final action.

"I shoved [ax][tx] and got called by [7x][7x]. He flopped a [7x], and that was that." --JS

7:55pm: No gift for the Greek
A further 20 players have busted during the first half of level 17 and Greek PokerStars Qualifier Demetrios Nikolaidis is one of them. He three-bet shoved for 70,000 with [Kd][Jd] and Adam Block - who was the original raiser - called with [Kh][Qh]

The [7d][4s][Ad] gave Nikolaidis a ton of outs but neither the [5h] turn or [As] river connected with his hand. Others to have hit the rail during level 17 include: Seun Oluwole, Osman Mustanoglu, Mick Graydon, Neville Gothold, Yucel Eminoglu, Thomas Somerville, Lee Taylor and Charlie Combes. -- NW

7:40pm: Miah floats to victory
Calling a bet with air in order to try and take it down on a later street - called floating - is a much-used poker technique; it obviously works best when you hit your card on the very next street, though.

Uzzol Miah had checked over to Razvan Naghiu on a [7h][9d][7d] flop, and Naghiu bet 27,000. Miah made the call and we saw an [as] on the turn, and the same pattern followed - check and bet, this time for 36,000, which was again called. The board was completed by the [2c] and after a check Naghiu moved all in for 60,000 on the nose. An appropriate amount of reflection was given but Miah did end up making the call. He had [ad][ts] and had made his hand on the turn, whilst Naghiu's [kh][9s] hand was to be his last. Still, he'll collect a very nice £2,030. --JS

7.30pm: Glittering cash prizes
Everyone left in has locked up £1,820, we're keeping track of who finishes where over on the payouts page. The likes of Rory Brown, Kevin Allen and Tim Davie have all cashed but crashed out of this tournament. -- NW

7.25pm: More counts

UKIPT5 Nottingham: David Clarkson shifts into top gear to lead final 37

Ukipt5_nottingham_main_event_day2_david_clarkson.jpg

David Clarkson has the overnight chip lead

We often refer to Day 2 of a UKIPT as moving day and the reasons for this can be summed up in one word - maths. Depending on how many levels you play on Day 1 around 45-55% of the field will advance to Day 2 whilst typically less than 10% advance from Day 2 to Day 3. Today 380 returned and just 37 made it through.

All the survivors have locked up a cash of at least £3,760 but whilst that's a decent return on their investment it's tomorrow when the big money will be won. The player looking most likely to take home the £182,000 first prize right now is David Clarkson, who ended the day on a massive 1,715,000. His biggest hand of the day came when he eliminated Rob Tinnion in a 1,600,000 chip pot. Clarkson flopped a flush with [Qs][Js], Tinnion had the [Ks] and a straight draw come the turn and the chips went in. "I closed my eyes and hoped," said Clarkson of the moment before the river blanked. The 26-year-old who describes himself as "pretty much a pro," plays live cash games and online tournaments. He's got form in the latter having won a TCOOP in January. He satellited into this event online but is on his second bullet.

He's not bad in the live arena either; Clarkson's two for two in UKIPT5 Main Events having finished 42nd in London. He had the chip lead in that one before going from hero to zero in just two hands to bust. "I'm good at getting the chip leads in these, but even better at punting them off," he joked at the end of the day. He'll be hoping that doesn't happen tomorrow, especially as his girlfriend Clara is travelling up to rail him.

Ukipt5_nottingham_main_event_day2_ricahrd_jones.jpg

It was a happy day for Jones

He wasn't the only player to breach the 1,000,000 chip barrier; nine players bagged up seven figures and all of Richard Jones (1,465,000) Patrick Clarke (1,404,000), Marc Hunter (1,291,000) and Ben Vinson (1,114,000) will be more than pleased with their day's work. In particular Vinson's rise was most impressive given he started with just 24,300. Below is a full list of survivors - they'll all be back at noon to play down to a winner.

The de-bearded Richard Blacklock

The prospect of another UKIPT double is on as Sergio Aido, who won UKIPT3 London, is still in. We also have the UKIPT4 leader board winner (Dara Davey), an Irish Open winner (Patrick Clarke), two players who've final tabled a UKIPT Main Event in this venue before (Vinson and Juan Benito), and three players who've final tabled an EPT (Morten Mortensen - 8th EPT7 Snowfest, Kuljinder Sidhu - 8th EPT10 London, and Remigiusz Wyrzykiewicz - 8th EPT11 Malta). In short, this field is still stacked.

Ukipt5_nottingham_main_event_day1d_jake_cody.jpg

There was to be no spin up for Cody

When play got under way at a little past noon local time there were two members of Team PokerStars Pro left in and one paid up member of Team Blog still in the mix. Just 15 minutes later we were 0 for 3. Leo Margets went first and Jake Cody followed soon after when he missed a straight and flush draw after jamming into a made straight.

Getting it in good didn't seem to help either. European Media Person of the Year winner Marc Convey can often be found commentating on the EPT and blogging on this very tour, and had his exit hand played out on EPT Live there'd have been a classic race symbol lit large. His jacks couldn't hold against ace-king and that was that for 'The Conv'.

Ukipt5_nottingham_main_event_day2_chuck_Khuu.jpg

Busting hurts, bubbling really hurts

Their exits set the tone for the day as it appeared everyone had a meeting to be at or a bus to catch as the bust outs continued at a ferocious pass until the bubble was reached during level 16. There would be no protracted bubble, indeed hand for hand play wasn't required. Chuck Khuu was the last to leave empty handed when his three-bet shove with ace-jack went awry as Ben Longstaff called with queens and the ladies held.

Ukipt5_nottingham_main_event_day2_leon_louis.jpg

Louis busted in the final level

From there the numbers continued to drop and plenty of talented players took a trip to the cash desk to pick up their winnings: Rory Brown (137th), Kevin Allen (129th), Charlie Combes (124th), Yucel Eminoglu (118th), Michael Graydon (114th), Ben Dobson (102nd), Leo McClean (92nd), Jason Tompkins (84th), Ludovic Geilich (78th), Paul Jackson (75th), Matas Cimbolas (68th), Robert Tinnion (60th), Neil Raine (54th), Dean Hutchison (47th) and Leon Louis (41st) all made the money but not Day 3. For a full list of payouts head here.

What are you doing here? All the cool kids are following the final table updates here.

8:10pm: Adam Kossew eliminated in 9th place (£13,540)
The official final table of eight is now set and its Adam Kossew who's gone in ninth place. Luke Perrott opened from under-the-gun, Kossew shoved for 820,000 from under-the-gun+1 only for Sam Mitten-laurence to move all in over the top for around 2,600,000. This forced Perrott off the pot and it was time for showdown. "One time hold," said Adam Kossew showing [8s][8d] it was a classic race as Mitten-laurence had [Ah][Ks].

It was not to be for Kossew though as the [Tc][Qs][Kd][Ac][Kc] board hit Mitten-laurence hard and eliminated Kossew. --NW

8:00pm: Two in a row for Pearson
Trevor Pearson came into the unofficial final table as the short stack with just 675,000. After an orbit he was down to 425,000, which he proceeded to shove all in. Everyone folded, and the very next hand Pearson did it again. Make that two in a row for the PokerStars Qualifier. --JS

7:50pm: Pacholi shoves huge
Krzysztof Jacyk min-raised under the gun to 160,000 and it was folded around to Sunil Pancholi in mid-position. He thought for a few moments before announcing "all in" - a massive shove of 2,400,000 or 30 big blinds. Whatever hand inspired the move, it worked - Jacyk folded and he took the pot. --JS

7:45pm: Slow start but hardly surprising
It's been a somewhat timid start to the unofficial final table with just "raise and take it" hands so far, but then again that's not a massive surprise when you consider the huge sums being played for. We'll be watching every hand and closely and will come right back with any action. --JS

7:30pm: Unofficial final table redraw
Below are the chip counts and seating order for the unofficial final table of nine. Cards are back in the air here in Nottingham

Krzysztof Jacyk, Poland, PokerStars Qualifier, 2,830,000
Kuljinder Sidhu, United Kingdom, 5,010,000
Luke Perrott, United Kingdom, PokerStars Qualifier, 2,310,000
Adam Kossew, United Kingdom, 1,140,000
Patrick Clarke, Ireland, 2,770,000
Sunil Pancholi, United Kingdom, 2,305,000
Sam Mitten-laurence, United Kingdom, PokerStars Qualifier, 3,270,000
Trevor Pearson, United Kingdom, PokerStars Qualifier, 675,000
Richard Jones, United Kingdom, 4,570,000

6:50pm: Dinner break
The final nine are taking a 45-minute dinner break. We'll be back soon with chip counts and the seat draw. --JS

6:45pm: One table remains - Hunter out in 10th for £11,240
There are now only nine players remaining in the UKIPT5 Nottingham Main Event. We'll have a redraw for the unofficial final table shortly, but first let's tell you about 10th place exit.

Marc Hunter opened to 230,000 on the button and then faced a shove from Krzysztof Jacyk in the big blind. After about a minute of deliberation Hunter made the call and turned over [ac][td] - trailing Jacyk's [ah][as] for pocket rockets. The board came [9h][6c][2s][5c][ts] and the day was done for Hunter. For his fantastic run, he'll take home £11,240. --JS

ukipt5_nottingham_day2_mark_hunter.jpg

Marc Hunter

6:35pm: End of the road for Siddique - out in 11th for £11,240
Richard Jones opened to 160,000 on the button and Usman Siddique shoved from the small blind for 710,000. Jones quickly called and revealed [ts][th] - ahead of Siddique's [9s][8s]. He'd need help to survive, but the board bricked for his hand and he'll collect £11,240 for his 11th place finish. --JS

Ukipt5_nottingham_main_event_day3_usman_siqqique.jpg

Usman Siddique

6:30pm: Pacholi having fun
It's great to see players having fun despite being so deep in a major tournament. Sunil Pancholi is keeping the mood light at his table - under the gun he announces: "OK. LET'S RAISE!" and tosses in six green 100,000 chips - a 7.5X raise. It's folded round and he shows [as][qs] before taking down the blinds and antes with a smile. --JS

6:25pm: Sidhu amps up the aggression
Kuljinder Sidhu opened to 175,000 and was three-bet by Patrick Clarke out of the big blind to 350,000. The big stack wasn't going anywhere however - he made it 1,100,000 to go and the rich get richer as Clarke made a quick fold. --JS

6:20pm: Vinson out in 12th for £10,070
Talented pro Ben Vinson had just ten big blinds and shoved [kh][jc] under-the-gun +1 on a six handed table, but his timing couldn't have been worse; Sam Mitten-Laurence woke up in the big blind with pocket aces. The [9c][qd][6c] board gave Vinson some hope as a ten would give him the lead. The [kc] on the turn provide even more possibilities, as now a jack would also improve his hand. However, the river was the [5s] and he hit the cashier's desk to collect his £10,070. --JS

Blinds up: 40,000/80,000, ante 10,000

6:15pm: Krzysztof Jacyk's turn to double
Another double up for a short stack with Krzysztof Jacyk getting one at the expense of Ben Vinson. Neither started the action though, that role was played by March Hunter. He opened to 130,000, Jacyk shoved for 705,000 and Vinson re-raised all-in forcing Hunter to fold.

Jacyk: [Ts][Td]
Vinson: [As][Kc]

The board ran [Js][8c][Tc][5c][7d] boosting Jacyk to 1,700,000 and dropping Vinson to 825,000. -- NW

6:05pm: Adam Kossew doubles through Usman Siddique
A bit of playability now for Adam Kossew as he just doubled up. He shoved for 660,000 from under-the-gun+1 after Usman Siddique had opened to 125,000 from under-the-gun. After getting a count Siddique made the call and turned over [Kc][Jh]. He was live as Kossew had [As][Qc]. "Ace please," said Kossew to the dealer and his wish was granted as the board came [3d][ac][Kd][5d][4h].

After that hand Kossew is up to 1,400,000 whilst Siqqique drops to 450,000 and is in real danger. --NW

5:55pm: Nicholas McLellan out in 13th (£10,070)
The surname McLellan will not be etched into a UKIPT trophy in Nottingham for a second year running. Duncan and Nicholas are no relation but they can both play poker well enough.

On McLellan's exit hand he defended his big blind after Patrick Clarke had opened to 125,000. On the [5h][6h][4d] flop McLellan open shoved for 520,000 and Clarke made the call.

McLellan: [Ac][5c]
Clarke: [8d][8s]

The overpair held up on the [4h] turn and [Jd] river.

12 remain. --NW

Ukipt5_nottingham_main_event_day3_nicholas_mcllelan.jpg

McLellan - 13th

5:50pm: Cinquemani says goodbye in 14th for £9,070
This hand played itself. Jimmy Cinquemani had just over 12 big blinds and shoved all-in for 745,000 with [ad][qs] and was called by Sunil Pancholi who held [9s][9d]. There was no help for Jimmy and he'll collect £9,070 for this deep run. Well played. --JS

5:45pm: New table for Pearson
After Masud's exit, Trevor Pearson has now moved over to balance tables. Having just doubled up, we'll see how he gets on with his new tablemates. --JS

5:40pm: Soleiman Masud finishes 15th for £9,070
We all know that poker is a game of skill and strategy, and sometimes in the live arena that involves having physical reads on your opponents. Unfortunately for Soleiman Masud, this time his read on a player would lead to his exit.

Masud had opened for 210,000 on the button and Richard Jones had shoved. It was a massive all-in bet - Jones had about 1,500,000 and Masud about 1,000,000 behind. He would think about the decision for around five minutes before the clock was eventually called - he seemed like he was trying to talk himself into folding but eventually said "I'm gonna have to go with my read" with nine seconds left to act. He called and flipped over [ah][7d], but that was dominated by Jones' [ad][qs] and the [8c][ts][6d] [6c][kd] brought no help. Nice run Soleiman - his run was good for £9,070. --JS

Ukipt5_nottingham_main_event_day3_soleiman_masud..jpg

Soleiman Masud

5:30pm: Pearson doubles
Trevor Pearson finished third in this event last year and he's making another deep run this time round. A short time ago he was all-in for his tournament life having three-bet shoved from the big blind for 600,000. He had pocket tens and Krzystof Jacyk - who had opened from the button - got a count and then called with [Kh][Jh].

So Pearson was racing to stay alive and he was the more fleet footed of the two as the board came [5h][4c][8s][Ac][8d] to double him up to around 1,300,000 whilst Jacyk slipped to 700,000. --NW

5:20pm: Final two tables
At 16 there was a redraw for the final two tables which are as below.

Table 1:
1. Kuljinder Sidhu
2. Nicolas Mclellan
3. Marc Hunter
4. Sam Mitten-laurence
5. Krzysztof Jacyk
6. Patrick Clarke
7. Trevor Pearson
8. Ben Vinson

Table 2:
1. Richard Jones
2. Luke Perrott
3. Usman Siddique
4. Adam Kossew
5. Jimmy Cinquemani
6. Sunil Pancholi
7. Soleiman Masud

5:10pm: Sergio Aido eliminated in 16th place (£8,070)
There will be no double UKIPT winner this year in Nottingham as Sergio Aido has just been eliminated. Sunil Pancholi opened for 375,000 - so over six big blinds - Aido shoved from the small blind for around 800,000 and Pancholi called off the extra.

Aido: [Jh][Jc]
Pancholi: [Kd][Qd]

It looked like a double up was on the cards until the river of the [Ah][Th][Ac][5d][Qs] board as Pancholi hit one of his over cards to send Aido out. --NW

Ukipt5_nottingham_main_event_day3_sergio_aido.jpg

It's adiós to Aido

4:55pm: Foyzul Hussein out in 17th for £8,070
There's something about coming back from a break that is leading to multiple quick eliminations. Foyzul Hussein has also just busted after Sam Mitten-Laurence opened on the button and Hussein shoved for 555,000. The raiser made the call and the cards were on their backs - [ah][8d] for Foyzul and [ad][kd] for Sam. There was no help on the [3s][2d][qd][jc][3c] board and we now had our 17th place finisher - good for £8,070. --JS

4:50pm: Bilcock busts in 18th for £7,070
Coming back from the break with just 3.5 big blinds meant Adam Bilcock had to do something quickly. He shoved 210,000 with [Ax][7x] and got looked up by Patrick Clarke in the small blind who held [Ax][Tx]. The board came [Qx][Jx][8x] [Kx] [8x] and that was that. A great run for Bilcock has earned him £7,070. --JS

4:45pm: Counts of the final 18
The players are back in their seats and cards are in the air. Kuljinder Sidhu leads, the top three stacks are all on the same table right now, however there will be a re-draw when we get down to 16 players.

4:30pm: Clarke wins huge pot at the break
Patrick Clarke won a huge pot in a hand against Luke Perrott as the level ticked into the break. Pre-flop Perrott completed from the small blind and Clarke checked with [9][7]. He hit gin as the flop came [7][7][7]. Perrott led for 40,000 and Clarke smooth called.

The turn was an ace and again Perrott bet 40,000, Clarke raised to 150,000 and Perrott called. The river was a two and Clarke overbet the pot - firing out 700,000 - Perrott called but mucked when he saw that Clarke had flopped quads.

The players are now on a break. --NW

4:20pm: Aido at the double
Sergio Aido is the last remaining UKIPT Champion in the field but as one of the shortest stacks he was in need of a double up and he just got one.

He shoved for 394,000 from the button and Usman Siddique isolated all-in with [6h][6d]. The [5d][Td][3h] flop gave Aido the nut flush draw to go with his overcards and his friends Juan Benito and Raul Martinez were watching on from the rail as the [Js] appeared on the turn. Aido turned round and said something to them. What's Spanish for more outs perhaps?

The river was the [Ac] and Benito let out a shout of 'vamos' at his compatriots double up. --NW

4:10pm: Bilcock devastated after hero call goes wrong
It's been some level for Adam Bilcock, the youngster has had multiple peaks and troughs but unfortunately he's ended the level on one of the latter after a hero call went wrong.

Kuljinder Sidhu opened to 100,000 and Bilcock called from the big blind. He then called bets of 150,000, 250,000 and 450,000 on a [3s][Ks][2s][7h][Qh] board, the calls on the flop and turn were reasonably quick but it was on the river where he took his time.
So much so in fact that that clock was called, with time ticking down he made the call, Sidhu showed [Qc][3d] and Bilcock's head hit the felt, he was left with just 210,000 after that hand and he told other players at the table that he had pocket eights.

Meanwhile after that hand Sidhu is up to 3,300,000 and the probable chip leader. -- NW

4:05pm: Brutal run out eliminates Longstaff in 19th for £7,070
We've had a couple of eliminations in quick succession - Ben Longstaff is the latest player to fall. After Longstaff had min-opened, Luke Perrott shoved from the small blind [ah][9c] and Longstaff called off 450,000 with [js][jc]. The flop and turn were safe - [2c][3s][5c] [kh] - but Perrott could still win with either an ace or a five to make a straight. The ugly river was a [4c] giving Perrott a wheel - the whole tabled comiserated with Longstaff who after that brutal bad beat will take home £7,070. --JS

4:00pm: No more Betts - eliminated in 20th for £7,070
Jeremy Betts has just been eliminated. The hand was quite standard considering he had a short stack; Marc Hunter opened to 80,000 with pocket aces, Hunter shoved 550,000 with the [kc][qc] from the small blind and naturally Hunter snapped. The [3c][8c][9h] flop gave Betts some hope - but the [ks] turn and [7h] river sealed his fate. He'll take home £7,070 for a 20th place finish. --JS

3:55pm: Counts
A few counts for you now. The chip leaders are:

Patrick Clarke, Ireland, 1,950,000
Luke Perrott, United Kingdom, PokerStars Qualifier, 2,600,000
Kuljinder Sidhu, United Kingdom, 2,300,000
Ben Vinson, United Kingdom, 1,950,000

Whilst the shortest stacks belong to:

Sergio Aido, Spain, 515,000
Ben Longstaff, United Kingdom , 400,000

3:45pm: Clark versus Bilcock
Boy is Adam Bilcock a lucky boy, he hit two rivers in quick succession against Patrick Clarke to survive.

In the fist hand Bilcock bet 125,000 on a [8s][7c][5h] flop, Clarke set him in for around 550,000 and Bilcock called it off. It was Clarke who showed first, [8d][6d], Bilcock was ahead with the [Qh][8h] but went behind on the [6h] turn, he had plenty of outs for the win but the [9d] river meant both played the board and the pot was chopped.

A few hands later Clarke opened to 85,000 with [Ad][Tc], Bilcock shoved for 586,000 with [Ac][Qh] and after a long tank Clarke called it off. The [6c][3d][Kd][Th][Qd] board a rollercoaster for Bilcock. He'd got it in good twice, fallen behind and then got there again. He's up to around 1,200,000 after that hand. --NW

Blinds up: 20,000/40,000, ante 5,000

3:35pm: Hussein and Vinson - Vinson and Hussein
The two names are starting to have a nice ring together as the players continue to battle for hefty pots. Vinson raised under the gun to 60,000 and was three-bet by Hussein in the small blind to 130,000. The big blind folded and Vinson made the call, taking us to a [9c][jh][2c] flop. Hussein continued for 110,000 and was called, before the [ks] arrived on the turn. This time the bet from Hussein was 150,000 and Vinson called once more. The [8h] came on the river and Hussein slowed down, checking to Vinson to shoved all-in and got a quick fold. --JS

3:20pm: Dara Davey out in 21st place (£6,070)
Last season's UKIPT leaderboard first place finisher and all-round tournament boss Dara Davey has been eliminated. Adam Kossew made it 65,000 to go and Davey shoved his 480,000 stack with [as][qs]. Kossew had the pocket kings and an ace was needed to survive. The board ran out [qx][7x][7x][2x][9x] but it wasn't enough --JS

3:25pm: Chip leaders side by side
With the elimination of Juan Benito, the tables needed balancing and Patrick Clarke was moved to the direct left on Luke Perrott. The Irish Open winner has a stack of 2,400,000 and is the chip leader, from Perrott who has 2,200,000. --NW

Ukipt5_nottingham_main_event_day3_patrick_clarke. jpg

Patrick Clarke

3:15pm: Hunting for information
It folded round to Marc Hunter on the button and he opened to 60,000 only for Sunil Pancholi to ship it in for 831,000 from the big blind.

"I think you have king-queen," said Hunter to Pancholi. "we'll find out," shot back Pancholi. A bit more back and forth followed. "If I fold and show you my hand will you show yours?" asked Hunter, but Pancholi kept quiet. Eventually Hunter folded and showed [Kd]][Qd], Pancholi showed just the [As] as he took the pot. --NW

Marc Hunter

3:05pm: Juan Benito eliminated in 22nd place (£6,070)
With 22 players left the role of tournament shortie was being filled by Juan Benito, the Spaniard chanced his arm at a double up by shoving for 200,000 with [Ac][6c] over the top of Kujinder Sidhu's 60,000 chip open. Sidhu called the extra with [8s][8c] and held on the [3c][8h][5s][Th][Qc] board. -- NW

2:55pm: We've lost Jonker; Vinson gets stronger
The second shortest stack coming back after the break belonged to the Netherlands' Michiel Jonker, who wasted no time in trying to build it by shoving 376,000 on the button with [qs][jh]. Sam Mitten-laurence made the call from the small blind with [ad][9d] and the Dutchman couldn't improve. He takes home £6,070.

A few hands later Ben Vinson played a big pot with Foyzul Hussein which must put him somewhere near the top of the stacks. Hussein min-opened in late position and Vinson popped it up to 170,000 from the small blind, and Hussein called. The flop fell [ts][qh][8h] and it was checked by Vinson before Hussein fired out 125,000, which was called. The [5s] arrived on the turn and now Vinson led for 210,000. Hussein announced a raise, but then only slid out enough to call Vinson's bet - however he did eventually make it 420,000 to essentially click it back after a bit of confusion. Vinson didn't budge, instead he shoved all in and Hussein laid it down. --JS

2:45pm: Perrott wins huge pots; eliminates Kristapaitis
Luke Perrott had been very active in the opening 15 minutes of level 24 and he raised yet again, this time to 72,000, perhaps this influenced Kestutis Kristapaitis's decision to three-bet to 125,000, Perrott called the extra and the two of them went to a [9c][Td][2s] flop.

First to act Perrott checked Kristapaitis bet 75,000 and Perrott called. The turn was the [5c] Kristapaitis bet 150,000 and called when Perrott check-raised to 350,000 total. So this pot was already swelled to 1,100,000 by the time the [8h] completed the board, Perrott shoved and Kristapaitis - who was the effective stack - called all-in for 644,000. The Lithuanian was the first to show, opening [Tc][9d] for two pair, but Perrott had [9h][9s] and won a huge pot to take the chip lead. --NW

Blinds up: 15,000/30,000, ante 4,000

2:05pm: "1.2m from the ashes"
We caught up with Luke Perrott on the break, who has made something of a miraculous recovery after getting as short as 260,000.

"I'm up to 1,200,000 from the ashes," he told the PokerStars Blog. "First I doubled with pocket tens against pocket sevens and held (see our 2pm post), and then there was a three-way pot where I'd flopped broadway with [kx][qx] and the other guy (Usman Siddique) had [jx][tx]."

With 40 big blinds moving into Level 24, Perrott is in good shape. --JS

2:05pm: Break time
The remaining 24 players are now taking their first break of the day. We'll be back with some interesting hands from the last level and all the chip counts shortly. --JS

2pm: Doubles for Perrott and Benito
Two all ins and two double ups to tell you about now...

First Luke Perrott got it in with [Tc][Th] for his final 409,000 and was up against Kuljinder Sidhu's pocket sevens. The [2c][Ks][4c][3c][8s] board doubled him to 850,000 and dropped Sidhu to 1,750,000.

On an adjacent table Juan Benito three-bet shoved for 316,000 with [Qc][Jd] and Richard Jones looked him up with [Ac][Qs]. The [8h][Js][2c][4d][8s] board favoured the Spaniard and he stayed alive, whilst Jones slipped to 1,800,000. -- NW

1:55pm: Raul Martinez out in 26th
It's fair to say Kestutis Kristapaitis is getting a bit of a reputation for being a bit 'crazy' a bit of an oddball if you like. For one he keeps on asking for all his chips to be in the big denominations - 100K chips are now in play - and is badgering the tournament staff to colour up all his chips to the green 100K chips.

More than one player has come up to us to tell us to watch 'the crazy Lithuanian' so we did and we weren't left wanting.
Raul Martinez moved all-in 370,000 from the cut-off with [Ad][4s] and Kristapaitis called very quickly with [7d][5d]. A [3c][2c][7h][6h][9h] board saw the pot go to the Lithuanian. He's now up to 1,675,000. -- NW

1:45pm: Perrott put to the test
PokerStars Qualifier Luke Perrott was just facing an agonising decision for his entire tournament - and while he lives to fight another day, he ultimately made the wrong one.

Having just doubled up when his [ax][jx] held against Raul Martinez's [ax][7x], Perrott immediately put his new chips to use by raising to 60,000 on the button. Martinez, left short with 260,000 and in the small blind, shoved before Kestutis Kristapaitis re-shoved from the big. Perrott was really going through the motions as he debated calling or folding, and he eventually opted for the latter after the clock was called. Martinez tabled [ah][7s] and Kristapaitis the [as][js]. The board fell [qd][8h][qh][3h][8s] and the players chopped it up with two pairs and an ace kicker each.

Afterwards, Perrott told the table he'd threw away [ax][qx], which would have almost tripled his stack. He has around 400,000 remaining. --JS

1:35pm: No presto moment for Blacklock
We're down to 26 players now as Richard Blacklock has become the latest player to exit the tournament. In his exit hand Dara Davey opened to 51,000 from middle position, Adam Kossew flat called from the small blind and Blacklock then moved all in for 317,000 from the big blind. Davey passed his hand but Kossew said call and showed [Jd][Jh].

The former Kidderminster Harriers goalkeeper needed help as he had [5h][5d] but none arrived on the [Ad][Ts][2s][9d][Tc] board. They'll be a complete re-draw when we're down to 24. -- NW

1:25pm: Peachy for Pearson
With blinds now at 12,000/24,000, Trevor Pearson made it more than than three times the big blind to go from under the gun - 76,000 to be exact. It was folded around to Juan Benito in the big blind who decided to put Pearson to the test and move all in. It wasn't necessarily a confident call by Pearson, but with just 356,000 behind he did indeed make it and it was his [ah][9h] against Benito's [tc][td]. It didn't long for Pearson to jump out in front in emphatic style - the first three community cards were [as][ad][6c]. The board completed with the [3c] and [2c] and it was a nice double for Trevor who is now playing around 770,000. --JS

1:15pm: Morten Mortensen mort
The very capable Morten Mortensen has just been eliminated from this tournament by Patrick Clarke. The Irishman raised and then called Mortensen's shove of 230,000 with [Kh][Qh] and was racing against the Dane's pocket sevens.

The [9s][Qd][Kc][5s][5d] board meant Ireland won this battle of Europe and Mortensen was eliminated in 30th place earning £4,330. -- NW

The Dane's day is done

1:15pm: Déjà vu for Clarkson
Anyone who's played poker knows that whilst it's an exhilarating game it can also be very cruel and the curse of the chip lead has struck down David Clarkson again. At UKIPT5 London in January he went from chip leader to out in 42nd place in the space of two hands. He was the start of day chip leader here in Nottingham but he's just exited this tournament in 31st place.

His exit hand was fairly spectacular as it involved a three-way all-in. He'd lost a lot of his stack already today, when his kings were cracked by queen-ten, and opened from a stack of 25 big blinds, Kestutis Kristapaitis flat called on the button and Foyzul Hussein then moved in for around 13 big blinds (288,000). Back on Clarkson he was tanking and as he did Kristapaitis picked up his cards as if he was going to muck should Clarkson shove. Clarkson did isolate all-in but Kristapaitis snap called his shove to create a three-way showdown.

Clarkson: [9d][9s]
Hussein: [Qd][Qh]
Kristapaitis: [Ad][Ah]

The [Tc][Qc][Kh] flop gave Hussein the lead and he held onto it on the [Th] turn and [5c] river. He's now up to 1,000,000 whilst Kristapaitis broke even on the hand and has 1,400,000. -- NW

Blinds up: 12,000/24,000, ante 3,000

1:05pm: Could Jones have got more?
We've just kindly been informed of a fun hand that took place at table 11 before it broke. Chris Gordon opened to 45,000 and found a caller in Richard Jones to his left. It was then three-bet by Jimmy Cinquemani to 107,000 and the original raiser got out of the way, leaving just Jones to make the call. We went to a flop of [jh][tc][6c] and both players checked, resulting in the [qc] on the turn. Jones checked and Cinquemani led for 120,000, only to see Jones had planned a check-raise - an enormous shove of 1,600,000. Cinquemani went deep into the tank and made an agonising fold. The players were talking after the hand and Jones' revealed he'd turned a flush whilst Cinquemani had folded [ax][kx] for a turned straight. Could Jones have got more had he played it a bit slower? We'll never know. The players have now been moved to separate tables. --JS

12:50pm: Moss rivered
A cruel river has seen Robert Moss exit the tournament in 32nd place. He three-bet shoved for 380,000 with [Ac][Kc] and Kuljinder Sidhu looked him up with [Td][Tc]. A [8d][Ad][Qd] gave Moss the lead but provided Sidhu with flush outs to go with the tens. He got there the hard way as although he missed the [3s] turn he hit the [Ts] river to eliminate Moss and climb to 1,300,000.

The latter took his exit incredibly well and indeed he took out his phone to snap a picture of the board. Remigiusz Myrzykiewicz and Algernon Buchanan are also out. -- NW

12:50pm: I had to do it
It folded round to Zeljko Adzaga in the small blind and he moved all in for around 180,000, the decision was now on Robert Moss and although he had Adzaga covered the call represented around half his stack.

It seemed like he had a marginal decision as he began talking to Adzaga, he and the Croat engaged in some good natured back and forth for a while before Moss folded. Adzaga showed [Js][7d] and said: "I had to do it," as he took the pot. --NW

12:40pm: Longstaff wins the race
After Ben Longstaff had min-opened, Marc Hunter three-bet and Longstaff four-bet his entire 400,000 stack. Hunter counted out the chips but was hesitant to call at first - "I think you've got ace king" he said, but eventually the chips were in the middle and it was Hunter's [5s][5c] against Longstaff's [ah][jc] for the latter's tournament life. The board ran out [8c][6s][js][qc][7s] and with around 40 big blinds Longstaff has a bit more breathing room. --JS

Hunter on Day 2

12:30pm: Taylor at the centre of the action
There's been lots of action on table 13 and it's all revolved around Guy Taylor. In the first significant hand Soleiman Masud opened to 51,000 from the cutoff, Taylor shoved for 446,000 from the button with pocket threes, only for Krzysztof Jacyk to wake up with aces in the small blind and call all-in for 388,000. Algernon Buchanan now had a big decision, he eventually folded and said: "Don't put an eight out there dealer," the board came [5c][9d][6c][Qd][5d] and Jacyk doubled to around 850,000 whilst Taylor was left very short.

Two hands later Masud again opened to 51,000, Taylor then shoved for his remaining 43,000 only for Daniel Merrilees to move all-in for 310,000 total. Back on Masud he had a look of 'this can't be happening again,' before shrugging and calling.

Masud: [Qs][Qd]
Merrilees: [Th][Ts]
Taylor: [Kc][7s]

"Let's see if I can bink my two bigs," said Taylor and bink he did as the board ran [Ac][Kd][8s][9h][Jc]. So a triple up for Taylor, but Masud had Merrilees covered and he was out in 36th place. He's the second player out today as Andrew Hulme is also out.

Edit: despite this miraculous treble up Taylor couldn't repeat the trick and is now out. -- NW

12:20pm: Chips are moving
There certainly isn't any fear of playing big pots early here today. Adam Kossew's delayed c-bet of 50,000 on a [7c][4s][9c][qs] was called by Jeremy Betts, who had called a min-open pre-flop on the button. The [7h] came on the river and a 125,000 bet was enough to take the pot down for Kossew. Meanwhile, on another table Lithuanian player Kestutis Kristapaitis has been getting involved, too. His 220,000 bet on a [ac][4s][js][5h][9c] board was called by the chipleader coming into the day, David Clarkson, and his [kc][6c] for the flush caused Clarkson to muck. --JS

12:10pm: Hulme getting busy
Coming into the day with 210,000 was enough for Andrew Hulme to be the second lowest stack, but the talented Brit known as 'stato_1' online has wasted no time in trying to improve his position by moving all in and raking in the blinds and antes. --JS

12:05pm: First hand double up for Moss
Pocket kings on the very first hand of the day? Don't mind if I do. Robert Moss has just doubled up with [kh][kc] against Krzysztof Jacyk's [ac][js]. The board ran out [5d][9c][8c][ts][2c] and as Moss started the day as the shortest stack with 142,000, he's now up to 330,000. --JS

12pm: 37 to 1
Welcome back to the final day of UKIPT5 Nottingham. This tournament began four weeks ago and over four start days 1,026 entered and now 37 remain. The phrase 'the cream rises' springs to mind as amongst the final 37 we have a UKIPT winner (Sergio Aido), the UKIPT4 leader board winner (Dara Davey), an Irish Open winner (Patrick Clarke), three players who've final tabled a UKIPT Main Event in this venue before (Ben Vinson, Trevor Pearson and Juan Benito), and three players who've final tabled an EPT (Morten Mortensen - 8th EPT7 Snowfest, Kuljinder Sidhu - 8th EPT10 London, and Remigiusz Wyrzykiewicz - 8th EPT11 Malta). One of them may well win or we could see another player have their breakout result.

UKIPT5 Nottingham: Final table profiles

Seat 1: Krzysztof Jacyk, Poland, PokerStars Qualifier - 2,830,000

Ukipt5_nottingham_main_event_day3_krzysztof_jacyk.jpg

Krzysztof Jacyk

Krzysztof Jacyk, 28, has been playing poker for about five years, professionally for the last two. He plays mostly online tournaments, specialising in satellites, and it's no surprise that his entry into the UKIPT Nottingham Main Event came with online qualification on PokerStars. He began playing with friends from school in Poland, but has now found travel to live events to offer opportunity for holidays with his girlfriend. This final table represents his first big cash in a major live tournament and he describes this trip as "strictly work."

Seat two: Kuljinder Sidhu, United Kingdom - 5,010,000

Ukipt5_nottingham_main_event_day3_kuljnder_singh.jpg

Kuljinder Sidhu

Kuljinder Sidhu hails from Birmingham, and has been playing poker for seven years. His playing socially, as he puts it, hasn't stopped him from racking up a good number of cashes around Europe, including an 8th place finish at EPT London in 2013 for £60,640. Sidhu also cashed in this event last year, although he's already far surpassed his 173rd place finish. He takes time from his clothing business to attend poker festivals where his live tournament experience has shown in his steady rise to the chip lead on the final table.

Seat three: Luke Perrott, United Kingdom, PokerStars Qualifier - 2,310,000

Ukipt5_nottingham_main_event_day3_luke_perrott.jpg

Luke Perrott

Luke Perrot started to play poker online four years ago, and makes it a priority to try to satellite into bigger tournaments and live events. His story of UKIPT Nottingham qualification: "I qualified in a £1 rebuy which took me to the £55 satellite. I didn't even have to re-buy or add-on in that as I had so many chips, so all in all I'm in this event for just £5." Now he's guaranteed at least £17,320. The 23 year old works as a bartender and plays regularly (his biggest score so far is $7,500 online), his experience giving him confidence to play what he describes as "good, solid poker." As far as the final table line-up goes, he appears to be happy to have Kuljinder Sidhu on his right.

Seat 4: Patrick Clarke, Ireland - 2,770,000

Ukipt5_nottingham_main_event_day3_patrick_clarke. jpg

Patrick Clarke

Patrick Clarke shot to live poker fame with a victory in the Irish Open in 2014, netting him €200,000 meaning that only the top prize will exceed his prior biggest win. The live cash pro, 27, can be found more often playing Pot Limit Omaha in the Fitz in Dublin. His results on the UKIPT are already solid (he's played five, cashed four), and he's finding recent success online, too, recently winning a major for $28,000. After a first time trip to Vegas last year, Clarke intends to head out again this summer, maybe stopping off at the EPT Grand Final in Monte Carlo on the way.

Seat 5: Sunil Pancholi, United Kingdom - 2,305,000

Ukipt5_nottingham_main_event_day3_sunil_pancholi.jpg

Sunil Pancholi

Sunil 'Sunny' Pancholi has been a lively presence at the table from Day 1a, where he ended the first flight as chip leader. He's stayed confidently above average through two more days' play in his first ever Main Event, being focused more usually on running his own business. Pancholi won his UKIPT Nottingham seat as a free bonus for finishing in the last six of a £50k tournament here at Dusk Till Dawn, and has already spun up a reward of at least £17,320 for his efforts. Eschewing online poker, Pancholi concentrates his efforts on the live game and hopes to continue his smooth ascent on the final table.

Seat 6: Sam Mitten-Laurence, United Kingdom, PokerStars Qualifier - 3,570,000

Ukipt5_nottingham_main_event_day3_sam_mitten_laurence.jpg

Sam Mitten-laurence

Sam Mitten-Laurence, from London, has been a poker professional since the age of 18, but the UKIPT Nottingham Main Event represents only his second ever live competition (the first being UKIPT Edinburgh). The London-based Mitten-Laurence favours No Limit Hold'em tournaments, and has had success in the Big $109 among others. He, too, qualified online on PokerStars and with a hefty first live cash already guaranteed, plans to go on holiday and attend more live events with his winnings.

Seat 7: Trevor Pearson, United Kingdom, PokerStars Qualifer - 975,000

Ukipt5_nottingham_main_event_day3_trevor_pearson.jpg

Trevor Pearson

This is Trevor Pearson's second straight UKIPT Nottingham final table, after he came third here last year for £89,900. The 57 year old commodities trader told us last time that his job, self-employed and in a round-the-clock partnership with his wife, had prepared him for the test of risk and endurance which a 1,026-runner poker tournament represents. First involved in the private cash game side of poker, Pearson now focuses on online tournaments, and qualified on PokerStars for this event.

Seat 8: Richard Jones, United Kingdom - 4,570,000

Ukipt5_nottingham_main_event_day3_richard_jones.jpg

Richard Jones

Our elder statesman at the final table is 62-year-old Birmingham based business owner Richard Jones. He's a keen tournament player online and often plays in private cash games live. Jones has had great success on PokerStars playing under the screenname 'dickler1', finishing third in the Super Tuesday for just under $55,000 and 19th in last year's WCOOP Main Event. When not playing tournaments online you'll often find him playing high stakes sit and gos. He enjoys poker for the banter and should he win today he says he'll use the money "sensibly." Away from the table he enjoys a spot of snooker but says his life revolves around his business (and poker), often playing in Switzerland when travelling for work.

12:45am: It's all over - Sam Mitten-Laurence wins UKIPT5 Nottingham for £182,000
After a very short heads up battle, we have a winner: PokerStars Qualifier Sam Mitten-Laurence. The final hand played out as follows:

Mitten-Laurence raised to 700,000 and it was three-bet by Trevor Pearson to 1,200,000. Mitten-Laurence quickly announced all-in and Pearson called just as swiftly and put his entire 5,550,000 stack on the line. The all-in was called and it was [ah][kh] for Sam against Trevor's [as][jh]. Trevor would need help from the Poker Gods to survive but it didn't come. The board was [ac][5h][2d] [6c][kd] and have our UKIPT5 Nottingham Main Event champion - Sam Mitten-Laurence. Congratulations Sam. --JS

12:40am: Trevor Pearson eliminated in 2nd place for £110,000
Play has come to an end, we'll publish the final hand details shortly.

12:30am: One for each
No massive pots yet but one decent win for each player.

Trevor Pearson narrowed the gap when he called a pre-flop raise of 600,000 and then a bet of 800,000 on a [Jd][2c][Jh] flop. There was no betting on the [2d] turn, but when Pearson bet 500,000 on the [Th] river Sam Mitten-Laurence folded.

Pearson didn't hold onto those chips for long though. Two hands later Mitten-Laurence raised to 600,000 on the button and Pearson called. The [4c][Kd][Tc] flop was checked through. The [Jd] hit the turn, Pearson bet 400,000 and Mitten-Laurence smooth called. On the [Qc] river Pearson bet a stack of greens - it looked to be in the 1,200,000 - 1,500,000 range - and Mitten-Laurence instantly called and turned over [As][6d]. It was good and he took the pot.

12:20am: Heads-up chip counts
Sam Mitten-Laurence has a near three to one chip lead as heads-up play gets under way:

Sam Mitten-Laurence, United Kingdom, PokerStars Qualifier, 18,900,000
Trevor Pearson, United Kingdom, PokerStars Qualifier, 6,560,000

No sign of a deal yet so this is what's on the line:

1st. £182,000
2nd. £110,000

UKIPT_Nottingham_2015_day3_headsup.jpg

Heads up is underway

12:10am: Richard Jones eliminated in 3rd (£77,400)
We have our third place finisher and the man in question is Richard Jones. The hand itself was a classic race: Sam Mitten-Laurence raised to 700,000 on the button, Jones made it 2,200,000 in the big blind, Mitten-Laurence shoved and Jones called off for 5,115,000 total. It was [5c][5h] for Jones against the two overs [ah][ts] of Mitten-Laurence. The board ran out [8s][ad][7h] [3s][qd] and Jones lost this bout. Still, he was in good spirits and so he should be as a great run has earned him £77,400. --JS

ukipt5_nottingham_day3_Richard_Jones.jpg

Jones (right, with Trevor Pearson, left) is out in 3rd

12:10am: Mitten-Laurence's lead getting eroded
Sam Mitten-Laurence's chip lead is getting chipped away at with Trevor Pearson the latest to dent it. Pre-flop Mitten-Laurence raised to 600,000 and Pearson smooth called from the small blind.

On the [7s][kc][3c] flop Mitten-Laurence c-bet 800,000 only for Pearson to jam for around 6,000,000. Mitten-Laurence gave it a think but elected to fold, Pearson showed [Ac][Ah] as he took the pot.

Rough chip counts are:

Sam Mitten-Laurence, United Kingdom, PokerStars Qualifier, 10,300,000
Trevor Pearson, United Kingdom, PokerStars Qualifier, 8,000,000
Richard Jones, United Kingdom, 7,000,000 --NW

Ukipt5_nottingham_main_event_day3_sam_mitten_laurence.jpg

Sam Mitten-Laurence still leads

12:05am: Still three handed somehow
Quite a few spectators commentated that they weren't sure how the chips hadn't gone in pre-flop in the following hand...

Sam Mitten-Laurence raised to 600,000 from the button and both Trevor Pearson and Richard Jones just called. There was no betting at all until Pearson fired for 500,000 on the river of the [Qc][5s][9c][2c][5h] board. Jones was the only caller, Pearson showed [As][Kd] whilst Jones had pocket eights. Both players only started the hand with around 30 big blinds. A lucky escape for Pearson then who could quite easily have been felted in this hand. --NW

12am: Walkies!
There have been a few walks during three-handed play but the players must have incredibly good reads on each other - or had incredibly bad hands - as Trevor Pearson showed kings when he received a walk and Sam Mitten-Laurence had aces when he got one. --NW
11:50pm: How's the family?
Correct us if we're wrong, but we think we may have just had our first family pot of the entire final table three-handed. Richard Jones opened on the button to 475,000 and both Sam Mitten-Laurence and Trevor Pearson called. The flop was [5h][ad][7d] and it was checked around, leading to a [2c] turn. It was checked around again but only as far as Jones who bet 750,000. Mitten-Laurence called but here's when Pearson became the black sheep of the family. He bumped it up to 2,100,000 and both players folded. That nice pot for Pearson might have nudged him into second in the chip counts. --JS

11:30pm: Chip counts
As level 31 gets under way these are how the final three stack up. Sam Mitten-Laurence has over half the chips in play, whilst Trevor Pearson has now equalled his performance in UKIPT4 Nottingham.

Sam Mitten-Laurence, United Kingdom, PokerStars Qualifier, 13,130,000
Richard Jones, United Kingdom, 7,280,000
Trevor Pearson, United Kingdom, PokerStars Qualifier, 5,070,000

The pay jumps are getting big now, this is what's still up for grabs.

11:30pm: Patrick Clarke eliminated in fourth place (£58,100)
Patrick Clarke had dropped some chips after losing a chunky pot to Sam Mitten-Laurence with sevens against [Kd][Qs] on a [Ad][Qs][9h][Kd][Ts] board and he'd also been pushed off pots by Trevor Pearson and Richard Jones.

So, he was down to 4,375,000 by the time his final hand rolled around. It was Mitten-Laurence who would again doing the damage. He raised to 475,000 with [As][Qd] and then called the Irishman's shove. Clarke had pocket twos but the ducks couldn't hold as the board ran [5h][5c][Ah][Kd][8c].

Mitten-Laurence has a sizeable chip lead now, full counts coming during the break as the players are now taking 15. -- NW

Clarke - out in fourth

11:20pm: That's some speedy shoving
Richard Jones doesn't mess about when it comes to decision-making. After opening to 575,000 under the gun, Sam Mitten-Laurence bumped it up to 1,480,000 from the small blind. Jones quickly called and the two saw a flop of [ah][9c][3c]. Mitten-Laurence checked and Jones couldn't have moved all of his chips into the middle faster if his life depended on it. Well, in this case his tournament life depended on it, but after much consideration Mitten-Laurence folded, showing the table his [kh][ks]. Jones took pity and showed [ad][qd] to put Mitten-Laurence's mind at ease. --JS

11:00pm: Don't steal Trevor Pearson's big blind...again
Sam Mitten-Laurence has been warned by Trevor Pearson to his left "Watch it.", as in don't push your luck and try and steal my big blind again. Pearson folded to Mitten-Laurence's 505,000 bet from the small blind, flashing the [as] as he did so. Next time he might fight back. --JS

10:50pm: Chip counts
Despite doubling up Trevor Person, Ireland's Patrick Clarke still have a sizeable chip lead over his three opponents.

Patrick Clarke, Ireland, 9,400,000
Sam Mitten-Laurence, United Kingdom, PokerStars Qualifier, 6,800,000
Richard Jones, United Kingdom, 4,200,000
Trevor Pearson, United Kingdom, PokerStars Qualifier, 3,600,000

10:40pm: Trevor Pearson doubles through Patrick Clarke
Trevor Pearson was the shortest stack of the remaining four and despite doubling through Patrick Clarke that's still the case. After Clarke raised to 350,000 from the button, Pearson defended from the small blind.

On the [5c][Qd][5d] flop Clarke shoved for an effective 1,435,000 and Pearson called it off. Clarke had [9d][2d] whilst Pearson held [Qc][Th]. The [4s] turn and [6c] river kept Pearson in front and in the tournament. "Now I know what you're raising with," said Pearson to Clarke. "You fold if you don't hit the queen," replied Clarke. --NW

And the winner of the happiest man in Nottingham goes to...

Blinds up: 80,000/160,000, ante 20,000

10:30pm: Krzysztof Jacyk eliminated in 5th (£44,700)
And then there were four...

Kryzsztof Jacyk had been left short when he doubled up Trevor Pearson (see 10:15pm post) and shoved his remaining 540,000 (4.5 big blinds) in with [8s][6s]. Patrick Clarke called with [Kh][Td] and stayed in front on the [8h][Qh][Kc][Qs][7d] board. -- NW

Ukipt5_nottingham_main_event_day3_krzystof_jacyk.jpg

Jacyk - ejected in fifth

10:25pm: Kuljinder Sidhu eliminated in 6th (£32,000)
We're down to five at the final table. Kuljinder Sidhu has been eliminated after ripping it all in out of the small blind for roughly 3,200,000 with [kh][5s] and getting called by Patrick Clarke who held [ad][qc]. The board ran out [ah][7c][6c][6d][tc] and that was all she wrote for Sidhu. He'll take home £32,000, whilst the remaining five players are now all guaranteed £44,700. --JS

Sidhu hits the rail

10:15pm: Pearson doubles; Jacyk on fumes
Trevor Pearson - the man who has made back-to-back UKIPT Nottingham final tables - is sitting far prettier now that he has doubled up through Poland's Krzysztof Jacyk. Pearson shoved for roughly 1,600,000 on the button and Jacyk called out of the big with [ah][kc]. He was dominating the at-risk Pearson's [kh][jc] until the flop came [ks][jh][8c] giving him two pair. The [ts] and [9s] that joined the board changed nothing and Pearson doubles, meanwhile Jacyk's stack has been decimated and he now sits with 650,000. --JS

10:10pm: Pancholi out in 7th place (£24,200)
There's been another elimination, and the man no longer present at the felt is Sunil Pancholi. He shoved his 1,085,000 stack from under the gun and was looked up by Sam Mitten-Laurence sat under the gun+1. It folded around and the players tabled [qs][ts] (Pancholi) and [jh][jd] (Mitten-Laurence). Sunil couldn't find any help as the board fell [th][8d][7h] [9d][ks] and it was the end of a great run for Pancholi. He'll take home a handsome £24,200. --JS

9:55pm: An interested spectator
Super-middleweight boxing World Champion Carl Froch is one of the spectators watching this final table. He played this event earlier this week but busted on Day 1. -- NW

9:50pm: Luke Perrott eliminated in eighth place (£17,320)
The first player out at the final table is Luke Perrott and his exit has also seen the chip lead change hands again.

Kuljinder Sidhu opened to 300,000 from the hijack, Perrott shoved for 1,300,000 from the cut off and Patrick Clarke then shoved all-in for around 5,000,000 from the button. That forced a fold from Sidhu and it was time for the reveal. Perrott had [Ac][Jc] but he was dominated by Clarke's [Ah][Ks]. The [Kd][7c][9h][Ts][Tc] board kept Clarke in front and boosted him to around 6,500,000. -- NW

9:40pm: Double up for Jones
Getting dealt aces on a major final table? It's the dream situation, and one that Richard Jones just experienced. After Sunil Pancholi opened to 375,000, Jones three-bet to 725,000 from the small blind. Pancholi made the call and we saw a flop of [9d][qh][5h]. Jones shoved all in for 1,610,000 and was called by Pancholi who held [ad][qc] - far behind Jones' [as][ac]. The turn was the [kh] and the river the [8c] giving Jones a much needed double up and leaving Pancholi with around 1,500,000.

After he won that hand Jones came up for us and asked us to say that he sends his love to his wife Lyn, who's reading the updates. Hi Lyn! -JS

9:30pm: Updated chip counts
Stacks were counted on the break and here's an update of how everyone is faring:

Sam Mitten-Laurence, United Kingdom, PokerStars Qualifier, 6,000,000
Patrick Clarke, Ireland, 5,100,000
Sunil Pancholi, United Kingdom, 3,960,000
Kuljinder Sidhu, United Kingdom, 3,625,000
Richard Jones, United Kingdom, 1,925,000
Krzysztof Jacyk, Poland, PokerStars Qualifier, 1,855,000
Luke Perrott, United Kingdom, PokerStars Qualifier, 1,640,000
Trevor Pearson, United Kingdom, PokerStars Qualifier, 1,380,000

9:10pm: Luke Perrott doubles through Richard Jones
Down to just 745,000 Luke Perrott moved all-in and Richard Jones gave him a spin from the big blind.

Jones: [Kc][Qc]
Perrott: [Ks][9c]

When the flop fell [8s][6d][7s] Jones let out a laugh, perhaps he knew what was coming as the [Ts] completed Perrott's straight and just for good measure he hit the [4s] on the river to make a flush. --NW

Ukipt5_nottingham_main_event_day3_luke_perrott.jpg

Luke Perrott is now (relatively) flush with chips

9pm: Patrick Clarke on the move
Patrick Clarke is closing in on the chip lead after winning sizeable pots against Krzysztof Jacyk and Sunil Pancholi.
In the first Clarke raised to 225,000 and Jacyk called from the big blind. Both players checked the [Kh][4d][8c] flop and the [6h] fell on the turn. Jacyk led for 325,000 and Clarke called. The [7s] completed the board again Jacyk bet and again Clarke called, 425,000 being the bet this time. Jacyk showed [As][Jd] for just ace high, whilst Clarke had [Ks][Td].

Soon after, he raised from the small blind and Pancholi defended his big blind. Again the flop was checked through but on the turn of a [9h][Qd][Qs][Qc] board Clarke bet 150,000 and Pancholi called. The [Td] finished things off and Clarke check-called a bet of 370,000, Pancholi announced 'ace' but Clarke had [Ts][3h] and won the pot.
He's up to around 4,900,000 whilst Pancholi is down to around 5,300,000. -- NW

Ukipt5_nottingham_main_event_day3_patrick_clarke.jpg

Clarke is chipping up

8:50pm: We have a new chipleader...
There's a new man leading the field and his name is Sunil Pancholi. The man he took it from, Kuljinder Sidhu, opened to 250,000 and Pancholi wasted no time shoving all in for 2,750,000 - equivalent to 27.5 big blinds. Sidhu snapped and turned over [kh][ks], ahead of Pancholi's [ac][jc]. Not for long though - the board ran out [as][qc][6c] [9d][qh] and Pancholi is now out in front with 5,850,000. --JS

8:40pm: Movers and Shakers
Whilst there haven't been any enormous pots to report, there have been a few worth mentioning. One notable hand took place between chipleader Kuljinder Sidhu and second biggest stack Richard Jones. Sidhu had made it 250,000 from under the gun and Jones peeled from the small blind. The flop fell [tc][5s][6s] and Jones checked to Sidhu who continued for another 250,000, which got another call out of Jones. The turn was the [5c] - Jones checked again and this time the bet got bigger - 475,000 from Sidhu, and another Jones call. The action stopped on the [3s] river and both players checked. It was [4s][4c] for Jones but Sidhu's [td][9d] was the winner of a pot worth more than a million.

Sunil Pancholi has remained active. He's tangling a lot with Richard Jones, and they're pretty much sat opposite each other in seat 1 and seat 4 respectively. Jones limped and Pacholi checked out of the big blind. The [kh][ts][3d] flop fell and both players checked. On the [kd] turn Pacholi took the betting lead, firing out 150,000 which was called. The [2h] came on the river and encouraged a 460,000 bet from Pacholi. Jones folded and a nice pot slid Sunil's way. --JS

8:20pm: Final table set
The final table of eight is now set and will start shortly. The seat draw and chip counts are as below

Krzysztof Jacyk, Poland, PokerStars Qualifier, 2,830,000
Kuljinder Sidhu, United Kingdom, 5,010,000
Luke Perrott, United Kingdom, PokerStars Qualifier, 2,310,000
Patrick Clarke, Ireland, 2,770,000

PokerStars Qualifier Sam Mitten-Laurence wins UKIPT5 Nottingham and £182,000

UKIPT Nottingham Champion Sam Mitten-Laurence

When the final 37 players returned to play to a winner at noon today at Dusk Till Dawn the title could've been won by a former UKIPT winner, a UKIPT leader board winner, three players who had previously final tabled a UKIPT or any of three players who have done likewise on the EPT.

But, in the end this tournament was won by a 24-year-old online qualifier playing only his second ever live tournament. Whilst Sam Mitten-Laurence, who qualified for £160 and tonight is £182,000 better off, might be green at the gills when it comes to bricks and mortar poker he was no fish out of water and he's a veritable veteran on the online felt. He turned pro at age 18 and since then he's clocked up over 22,000 tournaments on PokerStars under the screename 'KevinThorn'. "I've really enjoyed the whole week, especially since it's been so long since my last live tournament," he said when the tournament was over. "It's been a great experience. I definitely plan on playing more UKIPT events, and I'll probably travel for some EPTs too."

Ukipt5_nottingham_main_event_day3_sam_mitten_laurence.jpg

The boy can do it in the live arena too

As you'd expect from someone who's experience is vastly tilted towards the online game, Mitten-Laurence flew under the radar for most of today before the final table was reached. When we did see him in action he was busy getting it in good and knocking out players in the process. He took care of Michiel Jonker (23rd), Foyzul Hussein (17th) and Ben Vinson (12th). By the time the final table of eight was set he was third in chips. In typical fashion though he had the chip lead by the time the first break rolled around and all without playing a big pot of note.

Ukipt5_nottingham_main_event_day3_patrick_clarke.jpg

Clarke - dominated the opening half of the final table

This was no steamrollering of a final table though, indeed for much of the first half of the final table it looked like Patrick Clarke was going to win the second major title of his career.

Within 40 minutes the Irish Open winner took care of Luke Perrott in eighth ([Ah][Ks] vs [Ac][Jc]), Kuljinder Sidhu in sixth ([Ad][Kh] vs [Kh][5s]) and Krzysztof Jacyk is fifth ([Kh][Td] vs [8s][6s]). At that point Clarke had half the chips in play and Mitten-Laurence had only clung onto his coat tails by eliminating Sunil Pancholi in seventh ([Jh][Jd] vs [Qs][Ts]).

Pancholi was pole-axed in sixth

Ukipt5_nottingham_main_event_day3_krzystof_jacyk.jpg

Jacyk jogged on in fifth

You might have spotted a pattern by now, the best hand in all-in situations was holding up! However that was all about to change as Clarke's downfall and Mitten-Laurence's ascent to the title hinged on a couple of races where Mitten-Laurence needed to hit to win. He had already taken the chip lead by the time he eliminated Patrick Clarke in fourth place. Clarke three-bet shoved for around 28 big blinds with pocket twos, Mitten-Laurence called with [As][Qd] and flopped an ace to send the talented Clarke home.

"When we were four-handed there were two or three pots I played with Patrick Clarke where I really kept chipping him down and that was important as he's a tough player," Mitten-Laurence reflected afterwards. "I was pretty confident at four-handed but when Clarke was eliminated I felt as long I didn't make any silly mistakes I could get it done," he added.

ukipt5_nottingham_day3_Richard_Jones.jpg

Jones' journey ended in third place

So three-handed Mitten-Laurence was in total control with over half the chips in play and he added more when he eliminated Richard Jones in third. Again he needed to hit with overcards against a small pair and again he hit his ace on the flop as the Londoner's [Ah][Ts] bested Jones's pocket fives.

UKIPT_Nottingham_2015_day3_headsup.jpg

Heads-up play begins

A word now about his head-up opponent Trevor Pearson. He finished third in this very tournament last May and if you'd have offered him that at the start of the final table he'd have bit your hand off. He was almost permanently the short stack throughout but ducked, dived, stole enough to stay alive all whilst winning the hands that really mattered. "I've had no ammunition to work with, I've just been scraping along," he told us.

Ukipt5_nottingham_main_event_day3_trevor_pearson.jpg

Second, but still the happiest man in Nottingham

But ultimately you can only bring a knife to a gun fight for so long before you get fatally wounded and a three to one chip deficit heads-up was too much to overcome. Just a few hands into heads-up play his 27 big blind three-bet shove with [As][Jh] was snapped off by Mitten-Laurence with [Ah][Kh] the best hand held and Mitten-Laurence could start planning a knees up. "I've nothing too crazy planned for the money - other than a massive party obviously," he told us. "Other than that, I'll probably take a nice holiday with my girlfriend and put some towards a house."

UKIPT heading to Marbella (just off the southern coast of England)

marbella_beach_14may15.jpgThe beautiful Marbella beach

Well, there's no other way to say it, because it's a lie. But as far as lies go, it has to be the one that most poker people are prepared to overlook. It is this. Marbella is in the United Kingdom.

It's true. I know, you thought it was a small town on the southern coast of Spain. You're wrong. We consider it to be a small town just off the coast of southern England, albeit 1,400 miles off the coast of southern England. You may argue, but there it is.

None of which changes the fact that UKIPT Marbella is fast approaching, and we're giving you plenty of reasons to get to this, hehem, typically English seaside resort.

As always the Estrellas Poker Tour and the UKIPT are teaming up to host another enormous festival at this popular destination, which all takes place in the Casino Marbella from June 15-21.

Last season some 750 players made the trip to this place that is usually a beacon for players wanting a combination of great action at the tables, and plenty of entertainment off it. This year the plan is to make it even better.

First off there's a busy tournament schedule, with something for everyone regardless of stakes. They'll be a High Roller, nightly turbos, live satellites, and of course the €1,000 + €100 Main Event.

But they'll also be the familiar party atmosphere the town is known for, with PokerStars laying on various activities for the player at rest.

That means you can try your hand at karting, flyboarding, hoverboarding, parasailing, water scootering, wakeboarding, pedal boating and trawling. Frankly, we'd never heard of half of those, but they sound terrific. They'll also be a beach party to celebrate the festival, open to all players and including drinks and entertainment. That's on June 20.

What else do you need for a UKIPT? We'll tell you. Nothing more than a willingness to overlook the fact that Marbella is nowhere near "UK", or "I" for that matter. But it is a great "PT".

For more details check out the UKIPT Marbella. See you there.

** Just in case, let me assure you that this event takes place in Marbella, Spain.

Head to the Hippodrome for the UKIPT Series

hippodrome_ukipt_series_28may15.jpgSir... your blinds please Sir... Sir

I've said it before, but I tend to believe that the most important poker tournament in the world is not necessarily the one with the enormous buy-in at some luxury resort around the world, it's the event you're about to play in yourself. Whether it's a high roller or a step one satellite for a few FPPs, if you're in it, you're in it to win it.

With that in mind let me tell you about the latest UKIPT Series, which kicks off at the Hippodrome in London this weekend, one of the game's most elegant casinos, and situated in London's Leicester Square.

If you've never been to the Hippodrome it's worth the trip. It's the kind of place in which you'll stare at things open mouthed for a while thinking, "this is one heck of a place for a card room," before someone reminds you it's your turn to act. Then you're jolted back from looking out from the ornate balcony -- beneath chandeliers and above the gaming floor -- to the action taking place in front of you.

It promises to be some pretty good action too.

It kicks off in earnest tomorrow with Day 1A if the UKIPT Series. Play starts at 2pm with a buy in of £250+£25 and a starting stack of 20,000, with 30 minute levels: plenty to get creative with. That's followed by Day 1B on Saturday with the same start time. It's then all wrapped up on Day 2 on Sunday, which, for those remaining, gets under way at 12 noon.

But you don't have to wait until tomorrow to take a seat. Tonight you can win your way into the Main Event in a special UKIPT Series LIVE satellite, starting at 7.30pm this evening in the Hippodrome. It costs £35+£5 to play, with a single rebuy and add-on available to those wishing to take up that offer. Starting stacks are 5,000 with 20 minute levels. It could prove the perfect way to get a head start on the weekend.

Here's how that schedule looks in full.

May 28 - Thursday
19.30 UKIPT Series Satellite 1 re-buy/1 add-on: £35+£5 (5,000 chips, 20 minute levels)

May 29 - Friday
14.00 UKIPT Series Day 1A: £250+£25 (20,000 chips, 30 minute levels)

May 30 - Saturday
14.00 UKIPT Series Day 1B: £250+£25 (20,000 chips, 30 minute levels)

May 31 - Sunday
12.00 UKIPT Series Day 2

For more details about the UKIPT Series check out the Tour's homepage which will also provide you with details of how to find the Hippodrome. You can also find dates of all the other events planned for later this year. Who knows, one of them might just turn out to be the most important tournament you've ever played, if you know what I mean.

4:00pm: Break it up!
Four breathless levels of poker are in the bag and the players can now escape from the cardroom and take a short sabbatical to let their pulses return to resting rates once more.
We'll be back in twenty minutes to play through another four machine gun levels. See you shortly.

3:55pm: Two heavyweights don their gloves
Of all the late entries that have jumped into the throng, the names of James Mitchell (former Irish Open winner) and Kevin Williams (multiple UKIPT casher and UKIPT Galway winner) are perhaps the two buggest hitters.

With 20,000 stacks even joining in level four provides plenty of latitude for these players to showcase their accomplished poker skills and deliver some knockout blows.

UKIPTmini_London_May2015_JamesMitchell__MickeyMay_64940.jpg

Mitchell could prove a big threat for the title

3:45pm: Still rising...
There's a keen interest in thus event - registrations having already risen to 107 players.
With another 50 minutes or so of time remaining, we expect one of two more to join the fray before the final numbers are in.

LEVEL UP: BLINDS 150-300-25

3:30pm: Ante's matter
The introduction of the antes has really served to stimulate action and we've had a number of eliminations over the last level.
Nicolas Torossian, Henry Wride, Alex Bounsall, Marc Foggin have all paid the ultimate price for this increased aggression. Not death, but poker elimination.

Perhaps not the ultimate price then.

UKIPTmini_London_May2015_StevenHeron__MickeyMay_64877.jpg

Steven Heron one of those 107 bidding for glory

3:10pm: Taranovas makes brave call with 2nd nuts
Tomas Taranovas just had the pleasant experience of finding himself making an easy call to an opponent's all-in river shove.

Holding pocket kings, Taranovas three-bet preflop to 3,000 following a raise and a call and picked up one caller.

A board of [8h] [7s] [7d] saw his opponent lead for 3,000 - Taranovas making the call. The turned [2d] saw his opponent check-call 6,000 before a beautiful [Kd] appeared on the river.

Taranovas had little time to decide how he was going to extract value as his opponent moved all-in for his final 7,000 or so and he snap-called, showing down the second nuts.

His rueful opponent tabled pocket queens before shooting out of the arena.

"You've had harder calls," laughed one of his tablemates. Taranovas up to 38,000.

LEVEL UP: BLINDS 100-200-25

2:50pm: Wu hits the rail
Still early days but Thien Chung Wu won't be contesting the tournament any longer - the first casualty of the day dropping out in level 2. Good game sir!

2:35pm: Attention!
The 20,000 chips the players have been given might appear to give them plenty of leeway but with 30 minute levels, those won't last too long and a sleepy introduction to the day could prove costly.

Grab an espresso, sharpen up and get involved! Don't miss opportunities to get some early chips.

LEVEL UP: BLINDS 75-150

2:20pm: 86 is the magic number
Entries to the tournament are still being tallied and registration is open till 4:20pm (the end of level four) but right now there are 86 players officially in the running for this event.

Of those all 86 have survived the bulk of level 1 - congratulations!

2:00pm: Welcome to The Hippodrome Casino for Day 1A of the UKIPT Series This is an exciting phase of the poker year with the World Series just round the corner and a number of players nursing incipient dreams of winning one of those coveted gold bracelets in Las Vegas.

Before booking your flights, planning your summer schedule and dreaming of what you're going to spend your Main Event 1st place money on, it's a good idea to make sure your poker chops are in good order and what better way to limber up for the summer than this £250+£25 buy-in event.

A few notes on the structure for those unfamiliar with the UKIPT Series.

- A healthy 20,000 in chips for every player.

- Twelve 30 minute levels every day, starting at 2:00pm with a likely finish time of 8:45pm.

- Two starting days today (Friday 29th and Saturday 30th.)

- The Final day (start time 12:00pm - set those alarm clocks!) plays out Sunday 31st.

It's a lovely typical English summer's day - wet, windy and a little cold - which really makes for perfect poker weather as you don't need to worry about missing out on any fun outside - all the fun's going to take place here inside The Hippodrome Casino - mark our words.

We're expecting the usual influx of poker talent pouring through the doors to contest the tournament - seasoned locals, hopeful youngsters and veteran grinders looking to emulate Chris Yong's achievement in winning UKIPT5 Series 2.

We're moments away from the start and the players are taking their seats so good luck one and all, let's get this tournament underway!

6:22pm: Break Time
Wow, those four levels just flew by. With another set of four in the can, once more the players have been liberated to go walkabout the beautiful interior of the PokerStars Hippodrome Casino for a relaxing coffee, a mollifying cigarette or they could even pop out for a breath of fresh air.

They have twenty minutes to do as they see fit. We'll be back after the break to play through the final four levels of the day.

See you shortly!

6:17pm: It's a jungle sometimes
No quarter is being given nor sought as these players go toe-to-toe in all-out poker warfare.

Naturally there are casualties of this aggressive action - most recently these players have fallen foul of variance:
Ivon Asquith, Simon Hemsworth, Adam Kossew, Javier Guzman, Jack Germaine, James Ball, Edi Paul Neacsu, Shanmugavel Gajamugarubar, Andrey Veselov, Simon Trowse and Karl Parrish
.

Just 75 remain with these latest eliminations - 40% of the field already gone with less than 2/3 of the day played.

6:08pm: Cool hand Lok busts Spalding
Luke Spalding was once of those to whom the recent levels had not been kind, but he went for a double-through in a blind versus blind confrontation with Lok Yin Justin Tsui.

The pair took the most aggressive line preflop, both of them moving their stacks into the middle and when the dust settled they tabled pocket threes (Spalding) and [Kc][Qc] (Tsui).

The board of [9c][2s][5s][Kh][4s] saw Tsui win the flip and move to 31,000 whilst Spalding shook some hands, wished the table good luck and joined the ranks of the also-rans.

6:00pm: Expect fireworks

We've been banging the whole fast-paced, superspeed drum for some time now, but this latest level increase could prove the one to seperate the men from the boys and the ladies from the girls.

That increase of the blinds from 300/600 to 400/800 and antes from 75 to 100 may not seem like a lot, but it will be a reasonable fraction of many players' stacks.

It is likely that they will begin to fight tooth and nail to protect and collect those increased blinds - the fur will fly. Hold tight - war's about to breakout.

LEVEL UP: BLINDS 400-800-100

5:50pm: Final numbers in
So, an impressive 119 players in total turned up to play today, of whom just 90 remain, nearly 25% of the field shorn from the roster in this fiery opening 7 levels.

Can this incredible pace continue throughout? Will anyone at all make it through the day?

5:40pm: Relentless pace continues
It really is tough to avoid elimination right now. The blind pressure is increasing all the time and a steady stream of hopefuls are leaving the arena, victims of the whims of the poker gods.

The latest players to have supped from the sour chalice of defeat include:

George Evans, James Rann, Adnan Abdulhusein, Mark Norman, Davide De Simone and Yiannis Liperis.

5:25pm: All's well that ends, Wells
Dominic Wells, proud sporter of his "PokerStars Live! at The Hippodrome Casino" badge, was put to a tough decision a few moments ago.

Having led out of 3,500 on an [Ac][Td][6c] board, he saw his neighbour Sandra Reid move allin for her remaining stack of 11,100.

A long period of vacillation, head-scratching and mental angst culminated in a call from Wells who showed his relief as he tabled [As][Kc] to Reid's likely chop-worth [Ad][Ks].

In fact, Wells had a very small backdoor flush redraw, but the non-club brick on the turn kiboshed any thoughts of an outdraw and the pair were left to divide the pot between them.

"That was a great bet," Wells offered generously - his stack remaining around the 30,000 mark. Reid meanwhile has somewhat less with 14,000.

LEVEL UP: BLINDS 300-600-50

5:08pm: Gone but not forgotten
The dream may be over for some but their names remain memorialised for eternity on the PokerStars Blog. Admittedly memorialised in this instance as losing parties on this occasion but we're sure they will rise like Pheonixes from the ashes come their next event. Probably.

Anyway here they are. Good game guys.

Julius Adeyemi, Mohammedhossein Sharifkazemi, Oscar Skehel, David Phelan, James Topping
and Raymond Persaud.

Let's hope Oscar isn't feeling too grouchy

4:56pm: Neil down, but rises

Neil Van Der Merwe has seen his chip stack depleted over the opening levels but he may just have got the boost he needed to get his tournament back on track.

Having bet the [Ah][6c][Th] flop, he picked up one caller - the bricky [2h] appearing on the turn.

His opponent squirmed unconfortably as Van Der Merwe shoved his last 4,000 and change into the middle.

He did make the call however, only to table [Th][Js], well behind the [As][Qh] in Van Der Merwe's hands.

A [Kd] on the river kept the status quo - Van Der Merwe getting his tournament at least somewhat back on track as he jumps to 14,000.

LEVEL UP: BLINDS 250-500-50

4:41pm: Out of the running
The whirlwind pace that has been in effect ever since those incendiary antes were dropped like bombs into the mix seems unlikely to abate.

In recent times the following players have succumbed to the dynamic action taking place at the tables:

Gerald Ringe
Ian Tough
Tekin Irmak
Imran Elahi
and Spyros Mouzoura.

Good game fellas.

4:30pm: Jones rides waves of variance to survive

Timothy Jones was fairly short but just made a play to get himself somewhat back in contention. Holding [6h][7h] he jammed his stack into the middle, looking to double or bust and when he was looked up by [As][Qs] it looked more likely to be the latter.

A board of [9s][Tc][Jh] looked fairly disastrous but a spiked [6c] on the turn saw him take the lead and maintain his advantage on the [5d] river.

He breathed a sigh of relief - his tournament stack freshly invigorated.

4:20pm: Break Over - Back for Level 5

A well-earned twenty minute break is in the bag. Following close of registration, the numbers are up to 114, of whom 104 remain. We'll have official confirmation of the day's entries shortly.

For now though, the players are reseated and hungry to begin level 5. Dealers shuffle up and deal!
