8:50pm: Rachael Costa Leads chip counts at close of play
The final counts have been tallied and it is Rachael Costa who finishes atop them by the smallest whisker of a margin - her 176,600 pipping Dutchman Jan-Joost Van Den Bogert's 176,500.

"My table was crazy!" she said of what had been the most aggressive of the seat draws throughout the day. Her impressive accumulative exploits mean she will take the overall chip lead through to the final Day tomorrow.

UKIPTMINI_Lon_2015_Rachael_Costa_MickeyMay_58542.jpg

Costa made hay while the sun shone

WSOP and WPT winner James Dempsey also made it through the day (on that same crazy table) with 85,900. "I've got a train to catch back to Brighton!" the bobble-hatted poker crusher yelped as he quickly bagged and tagged ready for his nightly commute to the south coast.

A full list of the 21 players who made it through the day, along with their final counts can be found here.

The combined survivors from Days 1A and 1B can be found here.

The table draw for tomorrow's play will be made available at the casino on arrival and we will post this up to the blog then as well.

That brings today's play to a close! It's been aggressive, all-out, hardcore poker all day long and we've thoroughly enjoyed an entertaining day's play. Tomorrow will see the two flights of survivors from day 1A and 1B combine to play to a finish.

We'll be starting things off bright and early at 12:00pm (clocks go forward, shaving an hour off tonight's partying/ tomorrow's sleep - don't forget).

Join us then as we play through to the winner! Thanks for following, we'll see you tomorrow as we continue the bid to crown a UKIPT Series champion.

8.45pm: End of play
The final hand of the day has played out. 21 players remain of the 81 who started the day and with all the chips bagged and tagged the staff are just collating the chip counts so we will be able to give you the full picture shortly.

8:30pm: Van Den Bogert causing mayhem
The sole Dutchman in the field is causing havoc at his table and he may well be the chip leader right now.

Most recently he bet 20,000 on the river of a [7c][Th][Jh][5h][4d] board, eliciting a call from Colin Marks, who mucked when Jan-Joost Van Den Bogert showed his [Qh][6h] for a flush.

"I'm really surprised you called a raise with that hand," Marks remarked as Van Den Bogert smiled and raked in a big pot.

Soon after, the Dutchman won a flip to send another unfortunate to the rail - his king-jack spiking a jack to defeat pocket fives.

He is up over 150,000 now, certainly contending the chip lead.

8:20pm: Restart tomorrow at 12:00pm
A quick reminder that tomorrow's play will be kicking off at the earlier start time of 12:00pm. The clocks will also be moving forward so those late night drinks are going to be extra painful if they are extended. Be sensible remaining players!

8:18pm: Vanquished Warriors
22 remain as we approach the finish of the day. Here are the latest players who have been unable to swerve the evil machinations of the poker gods.

Well played all for making it so deep!

Gary Pearce
Mats Dag Rosen Pihl
Sameer Singh
David Alderton
Benyamin Abrishamchi
David Gasian
George Alexander
Mia Dac Liu
Allan Pike
Siavosh Ardabili
Dominic Wells

8:10pm: Final Furlong
It's been an incredibly fast day's play. Just 24 remain right now and we may even have time to consolidate the remaining players down to two tables if this incendiary knockout rate continues.

It will be an exciting finish to the day for sure. Keep them locked on this spot.

LEVEL UP: BLINDS 1,000-2,000-300

7:55pm: "My head is spinning"
Dempsey is struggling to come to terms with some of the plays at his table.

Most recently he saw three players go to war preflop - Colin Marks picking up some great action with pocket jacks versus two ace-sevens.

A big favourite preflop, the board run out kept him in front and he sends two opponents packing to the rail as his stack rises to an auspicious 95,000.

7:40pm: Big battle settled by the kings
The blinds have risen to a significant level now and the players are battling hard to steal and re-steal them.

Aneris Adomkevicius and Luca Gavazzi are the latest pair to go to war - a huge pot playing out button versus big blind as a series of raises eventualy saw Gavazzi move all-in for his 43,000 stack - Adomkevicius covered.

The Lithuanian had a long think about this before quietly announcing "I'll call" and pulling out his phone to take a picture of his all-in stack.

"I'd move your chips over the line before they muck your hand if I were you," advised a tablemate, Adomkevicius obliging before turning up A-Q to Gavazzi's superior [Kh][Ks].

A board of [Jh][Js][8d][4c][9s] saw the Italian send his foe to the rail - his stack now up in the 80,000 region.

UKIPTMINI_Lon_2015_Luca_Gavazzi_MickeyMay_58326.jpg

Gavazzi's kings secure him a huge pot

LEVEL UP: BLINDS 800-1,600-200

7:30pm: Flushy flushed
Mark Thomas has just put a dent in Dempsey's stack.

A family pot brewed with the pair in the blinds and 2 other limpers also partaking in the action.

A board of [Tc][8c][6h] saw Thomas check to Dempsey who fired out 3,100, called in one spot before Thomas check-raised allin for around 15,000.

Dempsey rubbed his bobble-hat-covered temple before raising to 35,000 and isolating the all-in player.

[As][Th] for Dempsey, [6c][7c] for Thomas.

"Oh I'm miles ahead," said Thomas with his big draw, an impassive Dempsey watching on as the board completed [Ac][Js] to give Thomas a winning flush.

For those interested in the statistics, Thomas was indeed a 59.3% favourite on the flop. He continued to tell all and sundry how pleased he was with the hand over the next five minutes. Dempsey quietly adjusted his bobble hat and his prospects - his stack down to around 50,000.

7:00pm: Leaders of the Pack
Here are the top ten chip leaders as we speak - Christopher Yong doing an excellent job of maintaining the momentum he created during the first four levels of the day:

Christopher Yong Malaysia 107 98300
Jan-Joost Van Den Bogert Netherlands 41 95000

Rachael Costa United Kingdom 72 44000

UKIPTMINI_Lon_2015_MickeyMay_58320.jpg

Crusher Yong is the man setting the pace

6:50pm: Dempsey on the charge
It's been a healthy second tranche of levels for James Dempsey who has chipped up to 60,000.

It could have been even better he revealed.

"I flatted ace-queen to an early position raise from a tight player and was three-bet behind me. I jammed it in and got called by ace-ten...but we chopped."

Despite this, things are going his way and he is confident as we head into the last third of the day. "I could end up with chips by the close!" he claimed.

6:40pm: Run-in to the final
20 minutes of R&R will have done the players' constitutions a world of good you'd have thought and they can now knuckle down and focus on finishing the day bagging up the maximum amount of chips their efforts and variance will allow. Good luck tigers.

6:20pm: Final Break!
It's been a swift day's play so far and the players are now taking their final break of the day before they return to plough through the last four levels.

We'll have news of the current chip leaders on the resumption so see you shortly!

6:15pm: Worley-Roberts secures precious double through
It's not been a good day for the bubbly Worley-Roberts, but she has made at least the first faltering steps back into the ranks of contenders with a much needed double-through.

Pushing her stack into the middle with [9d][5d], she looked in trouble when she was looked up by a tablemate's big slick.

"Diamonds are a girl's best friend!" she announced confidently and the dealer duly obliged peeling off two diamonds on the flop and a third on the turn.

Worley-Roberts sprung up and covered her unfortunate tablemate's eyes before retaking her seat with her chances given a boon.

6:02pm: Prizepool Information
The numbers are in! 160 players have contributed to a prizepool of £38,800.
18 places will be paid and the first prize will be a juicy £12,210.
A link to the full prizepool can be found here

LEVEL UP: BLINDS 400-800-100

5:51pm: A Waterfall of Eliminations
What was once a thin trickle is gaining momentum and there is now a cascade of players hitting the rail at regular intervals. The blinds are really starting to bite.

Here are the latest victims of ill luck. Good games!

Camille Abram
Mike Lee
Benjamin Rogers
Conor Smyth
Ali Zihni
Haoran Cai
John Crouchley
Thomas Postlethwaite
Daisuke Mishima

5:30pm: Slick Zihni turfed out by cowboys
Ali Zihni's tournament has drawn to a close. Facing three-way action, Zihni saw his raise with big slick three-bet by an aggressive player, and flatted in one spot.

He felt like this was a great opportunity to make some chips and four-bet to 8,000, the aggressive player laying it down before the flat-caller made a surprising move, shoving for an additional 12,000.

Suspicious action, but Zihni was priced in to call and did so, only to discover his foe had pocket kings. The flop was no help and that was that for Zihni.

"I may have played that hand badly," he mused after his exit, although either way, it was a tough spot to escape from.

Good game sir.

7:05pm: Chris Yong is UKIPT5 Series 1 Champion!

That's it then. Chris Yong has bested his 160 competitors to reach the summit and become champion. He's been in rich form in recent times - his 5th place finish at UKIPT two months ago a taster of what was to come. Although his cash prize there exceeded 1st place here, outright victory will have perhaps tasted sweeter as his beaming face suggested.

"I've got a 100% final table record here now!" he gushed after winning, enthusiasm dripping from his every pore. Winning here has opened up opportunities for future tournaments as Yong revealed.

"I've been trying to satellite into [UKIPT] Nottingham but without success. I think I'll just buy in now," he said.

We'll see Yong at the next major stop on the UKIPT then and don't bet against this talented form horse.

We'll have a wrap of the days action up shortly, but for now thanks for following us on a fascinating day's poker and well done to Chris Yong!

UKIPTMINI_Lon_2015_MickeyMay_59223.jpg

It was hard work for Yong but worth it in the end

6:45pm: It's all over!

That was a fast heads-up.

The pair first struck a deal to iron out the jump between first and second - Chris Yong taking £9,186 and Joe Pateman £7,819.

They then played on for £1,800 and the trophy and it was a whirlwind affair.

It looked like Pateman had the edge when the pair got it in on an [Ah][8s][9h] board, both with draws, but Pateman's [Kh][Jh] a decent favourite over Yong's [Th][Js].

It held and suddenly Pateman had the 2-1 chip lead.

Yong however fought back, flopping top two with [Kd][Qs] on a [Kc][Qh][7c] board and picking up a full double-up when Pateman flopped top pair with [Ks][3s].

Finally Yong finished him off in a cooler hand - Pateman going to war with tens preflop, only for Yong to find kings in the same hand.

"That was always going to do it," laughed Pateman as the board ran out with no help.

Just like that, we had a winner!

Pateman picks up £7,819 for his 2nd place finish. Congratulations on a fantastic run but it is Chris Yong who picks up the adjusted £10,986 for 1st place, along with the trophy and the plaudits.

He is beaming with joy at that win. Photos of the winner to follow shortly.

6:30pm: Heads - Up!
That dramatic elimination means Pateman and Yong are heads-up for the title. They are discussing deals at the moment - Yong with a 2.1 million to 1.1 million chip lead.

More news if negotiations reach some sort of conclusion...

6:22pm: Paul squeezed out (3rd)
Yong's relentless plundering of the blinds meant sooner or later someone was going to play back at him and Paul felt he was the man to do so.

Yong raised as per usual, Pateman made the call and now Paul jammed all-in for his entire stack from the big blind.

Yong elected to fold this time, but Pateman called quickly with a sneakily played pair of aces!

Paul could only table pocket eights, which were the second best hand by the time the board ran out [Qc][9c][3s][Js][Jc].

All over for Paul he collects a handy £4,305 for his third place finish.

LEVEL UP: BLINDS 12,000-24,000-3,000

6:10pm: Hitchens' tilt at title crushed in 4th
Mark Hitchens has found Chris Yong virtually unplayable today, Yong making his life misery in position.

Finally he found a spot to perhaps enact a small measure of revenge, shoving his smallstack from the small blind with [Qd][9d] and Yong making a pot odds call with [4h][5d].

Despite having the equity edge, Hitchens could only watch his hopes of finally winning a pot off Yong dissolve as the dealer found cards to better suit his opponent - the board peeling off [Kh][Kc][5h][6h][5c] to give Yong a winning full house.

Hitchens threw his hands up in mock despair, laughing it off, before sidling away from the table to collect the £3,105 his impressive run to 4th spot had garnered him.

UKIPTMINI_Lon_2015_MickeyMay_59061.jpg

Yong is an unstoppable poker tank right now

5:50pm: Castro sees empire crumble(5th)
Jesus Castro has represented Spain with aplomb, shortstacked for virtually the entire day, he has shown the sticking power of a barnacle as he has hung in laddering spot after spot.

Finally though, his stack has been winkled off the table, Jason Pateman doing the damage.

With 174,000, and [Ad][9s] Castro found an easy button shove spot and did so, Pateman rubbing his chin, before making an understandable although dominated call with [Ah][2s].

The board however was kind to Pateman, running out [Ts][4h][3d][5d][7h]to give him the straight. A commiseratory handshake for Castro and he bows out in 5th place, good for £2,320.

UKIPTMINI_Lon_2015_MickeyMay_59034.jpg

Castro boasts some epic shortstack skills

LEVEL UP: BLINDS 10,000-20,000-3,000

5:45pm: Yong on roll

Chris Yong is using his stack like a battering ram, raising almost every pot and winning 90% of them. His stack has risen to 1.4 million virtually without a showdown.

5:35pm: The chip kings

Here's how the final five line up right now, Chris Yong leading the way,

900,000 Christopher Yong Malaysia
743,000 Joseph Pateman United Kingdom
639,000 Richard Paul United Kingdom
629,000 Mark Hitchens United Kingdom
265,000 Jesus Castro Spain

5:25pm: Heron finally undone(6th)
It's not been a pleasant final for Heron card-wise.

He was unfortunate to fail to eliminate Gusetoiu earlier when his eights were undone by the Romanian's A-8 and he accidentally turned his cards face up when holding [Ad][Jd] in one hand versus Chris Yong.

Finally the pain is over however, his shove with [Qs][9c] picked off by Richard Paul's [Ac][4c].

The board threatened redemption before denying him at the last, coming off [Jc][3h][2s][Qh][5h].

"Horrible river," joked Heron as he departed with £1,745 in his pocket for his 6th place finish. Paul's spate of eliminations have seen him rise 3rd in the chip standings.

5:10pm: Gusetoiu out-kicked and kicked out in 7th
It's generally been a pretty aggressive tournament and when both Gabriel Gusetoiu and Richard Paul flopped top pair on a [3h][Jc][3c] board, neither were llikely to back down.

So it proved, the Romanian Gusetoiu betting out 50,000, Paul shoving and Gusetiou calling off his stack.

He held [Jh][Qh] but was crucially outkicked by Paul's [Kd][Jd] and when the board bricked out Gusetiou was out in 7th place, good for £1,260.

4:50pm: Hitchens finds ladies to tumble Brabin out(8th)

A desperate Richard Brabin went for a double up with a pretty-looking [Ac][Jd], but when Hitchen found an even prettier looking pair of queens and re-shoved to isolate, the writing was on the wall.

A board of [4c][7d][Ks][9h][Qh] did nothing for Brabin, Hitchen even finding time to unnecessarily improve to a set.

Brabin is out first elimination, out in 8th spot where he collects £1,025. Well played sir.
4:25pm: UKIPT Series Final Table Standings
The players have had a short break to catch their breath, congratulate each other and have their picture taken. The action will resume with the chip standings as follows:

UKIPTMINI_Lon_2015_MickeyMay_58836.jpg

1st - 859,000 Joseph Pateman United Kingdom

Day 1a's chip leader, 42 year old Joseph Pateman comes to the table still on top after "a good run of cards, and some decent play" kept him in pole position. He's been playing cards since the age of six, discovering poker (the 5-card Stud variety) at 18 and turning to NLHE 6 years ago. He's a multitasking casino employee in Brighton by day, but is always trying to find time to hone his live Hold'em tournament game, in which he feels most comfortable.

UKIPTMINI_Lon_2015_MickeyMay_58893.jpg

2nd - 780,000 Christopher Yong Malaysia

Chris Yong is a 26 year old trainee solicitor living in London. He started playing poker at school before moving into playing online at university. He likes to play cash games on the whole, but has started including more tournaments into his game as they are fun to play.

Chris is in a rich vein of UKIPT form, having made the final table at UKIPT London in January, where he finished 5th for £24,600.

UKIPTMINI_Lon_2015_MickeyMay_58920.jpg

3rd - 386,000 Richard Paul United Kingdom

This is CFO Richard Paul's second UKIPT Series final table after his 8th place last April here in London. He's looking to improve on £1,850, however, as 2014 was encouraging: he won £15,000 at Dusk Till Dawn alone. Originally a lover of all card games (especially types such as bridge), Londoner Paul, 54, has been playing poker for five years and greatly prefers live tournaments to their online counterparts.

UKIPTMINI_Lon_2015_MickeyMay_58859.jpg

4th - 330,000 Jesus Castro Spain

Jesus Castro, 25, has been living in London learning English for the past four months, originally calling Granada in Spain home. Counting himself as a semi-pro poker player, he's been playing for five years and has online results including a wins in the PokerStars Big $100 and $50. His live experience includes stops on the Estrellas Poker Tour where he cashed in the Main Event in Valencia last year.

UKIPTMINI_Lon_2015_MickeyMay_58932.jpg

5th - 315,000 Mark Hitchens United Kingdom

London-based Mark Hitchens, 49, works part-time as a health and safety consultant, leaving regular days open to concentrate on a game that has become a second stream of income for him, live poker. His best results have come at Dusk Till Dawn where a runner-up spot for £14,000 led to an added ticket in to the WPT, where he cashed for £6,000 the same week. He turned to poker six years ago after spending time, as he says, "Gambling in the wrong way; I quit the bookies and concentrated on a game with some skill in it!"

UKIPTMINI_Lon_2015_MickeyMay_58906.jpg

6th - 287,000 Richard Heron Ireland

Richard Heron is a 30 year old financial Investor from Dublin. He's predominantly been a cash game player over the last 7 years at $2-$4 and $5-$10 levels, rarely playing MTTs. He does plan to squeeze a few more UKIPTs and maybe EPTs into his schedule in the future given his success at this tournament, however.

UKIPTMINI_Lon_2015_MickeyMay_58941.jpg

7th - 113,000 Richard Brabin
Richard Brabin, 31, from Evesham in Worcestershire, has been playing poker for 10 years. He has his own catering business but loves to play live poker and although he nurses one of the short stacks on this final table will be looking to spin up a score to dwarf his previous best result, an online cash for €1,600.

UKIPTMINI_Lon_2015_MickeyMay_58853.jpg

8th 103,000 Gabriel Gusetoiu Romania

Tony Gusetoiu, 28, originally hails from Romania but now lives in London making his living as a rare combination of fitness instructor and poker pro. He's been playing for two years and prefers live tournament poker, recently finding success in the £770 UKIPT London Main event this January. Another of the table's short stacks, Gusetoiu hopes to better that result by coming 5th or higher.

Chris Yong wins £10,986 and UKIPT5 Series 1 Title

$

Day 2 of the UKIPT5 Series1 has played to a winner and it is Chris Yong who claimed dominion over his fellow players by blitzing his way to the title in quicksmart fashion here at The Hippodrome Casino.

"Well I feel great!" he said with a beaming smile following his win.

UKIPTMINI_Lon_2015_MickeyMay_59328.jpg

Chris Yong soaks up his moment of glory

The steep blinds and snappy 30 minute levels always meant the day would play out with a degree of alacrity, but everyone was caught off guard as the 42 arriving players were whittled down to the final 8 in just a few dramatic levels.

Naturally there were some big name casualties falling in the wake of this meaty action. Rachael Costa came into the day with the chip lead and burning hopes that she could convert this position into a title-winning performance.

UKIPTMINI_Lon_2015_MickeyMay_58765.jpg

Rachael Costa was one of Chris Yong's many victims

It wasn't to be though, Costa crashing out in a crucial hand, as Yong outflopped her pocket aces to win a huge pot. James Dempsey would also see his challenge fall on stony ground, a key coin flip derailing the WSOP and WPT winner's progress just prior to the cash spots.

Eventually the bubble was breached with Colin Marks, Luca Gavazzi and Evgenii Feiskanov all just failing to decorate their weekend with a hendon mob flag.

18 players however were left fist-pumping their glee at guaranteed remuneration and within a blink of an eye, these 18 were shorn down to our final table:

Joseph Pateman, United Kingdom, 859,000
Christopher Yong, Malaysia, 780,000
Richard Paul, United Kingdom, 386,000
Jesus Castro, Spain, 330,000
Mark Hitchens, United Kingdom, 315,000
Richard Heron, Ireland, 287,000
Richard Brabin, United Kingdom, 113,000
"Tony" Gabriel Gusetoiu, Romania, 103,000

The relentless pace refused to relent on the final (relentless paces are like that.)

Players dropped with clockwork regularity, Brabin, Gusteoiu and Heron departing in 8th (£1,025), 7th (£1,260) and 6th (£1,745) respectively.

Spaniard Jesus Castro massaged an impressively deep run of 5th out of his perenially-short stack, eventually unlucky to bust in 5th spot for £2,320.

UKIPTMINI_Lon_2015_MickeyMay_58960.jpg

The UKIPT5 Series 1 final table

Four-handed Chris Yong turned up the heat, raising virtually every hand and winning a very high percentage of these as he steam-rolled the table.

Hitchens was one man to suffer greatly at the hands of Yong and it was no surprise when Yong administered the final blow to his chances as Hitchens crashed out 4th to finish up with £3,105.

Three-handed, Joseph Pateman and Chris Yong held a healthy advantage over third-placed Richard Paul and he couldn't find a way to turn this around, his final offering a fine-looking squeeze that was unfortunate to run into a craftily-played pair of aces in Pateman's hands.

Third place beckoned for Paul, who collected £4,305 and that left Pateman and Yong to contend the title.

UKIPTMINI_Lon_2015_MickeyMay_59282.jpg

Pateman unable to stop the Yong express train

After hammering out a variance-crushing deal, the pair played on for £1,800 and the trophy and although Pateman briefly threatened to turn round the 2-1 deficit at the start of heads-up, Yong was not to be denied.

A kings versus tens cooler was enough to ensure Yong would be left clutching the trophy to add to his recent golden run, which also included a 5th place finish at UKIPT London.

"I have a 100% final table record here!" he was unsurprisingly keen to emphasise following the win.

UKIPTMINI_Lon_2015_MickeyMay_59351.jpg

The man of the moment - Chris Yong

Here's how the final table payouts finished up:

1st Chris Yong, Malaysia £10,986
2nd Joseph Pateman, United Kingdom £7,819
3rd RIchard Paul, United Kingdom £4,305
4th Mark Hitchens, United Kingdom £3,105
5th Jesus Castro, Spain £2,320
6th Richard Heron,, Ireland £1,745
7th Gabriel Gusetoiu, Romania £1,260
8th Richard Brabin, United Kingdom £1,025

This win ensures we will see Yong partake in the upcoming UKIPT Nottingham April 12th-19th, the main event guaranteed at a jaw-dropping £1 million.

Hopefully we will see you there too. Historic tournaments like this don't come along too often. Don't miss out on this slice of poker history. For now though, thanks for following.

7:50pm: Break time
The players are now on a 20 minute break, you'll find level seven updates in a new post shortly.

7:45pm: Sabatini bests Romanello
After Frank Romanello opened from the button, Jarbas Sabatini three-bet and Romanello called to create a pre-flop pot of 11,850. Sabatini had exactly 25,000 behind and bet 5,000 of it on the [Qd][7d][Tc] flop. Call from Romanello. Both players checked the [Jd] turn and Sabatini then casually bet 10,000 on the [4c] river, Romanello swiftly called and showed [Ac][Th] but he was behind to the [As][Kd] of Sabatini. He's up to around 52,000 whilst Romanello drops to 48,000.

7:35pm: Eames out
John Eames is one of the casualties of level six. It's the last level of the day in which you can re-enter but Eames will not be back today. He's joined on the rail by Colin Hotchkiss, Michael Howard, Abdulrahman Alkhanji and Adam Borrer, whilst Richard Harris has opted to re-enter.

7:30pm: Sapiano not flush with chips
On the turn of a [Th][As][Ts][7d] board Kyriacos Dionysiou shoved for what looked like 6,700 and Albert Sapiano looked him up. Dionysiou showed [Ah][5c] whilst Sapiano had [9s][2s]. "Don't worry Jack I never hit the flush," the dealer delivered the [4h] on the river and 'Greek Jack' doubled to 35,000, whilst Sapiano slipped to 65,000. "I've missed about six or seven already today," added Sapiano.

7:15pm: One pair wins
The PokerStars Blog picked up the action on a [6h][9c][Ts][3s] board to see Chris Sly lead out into three other players from the small blind. His bet was 2,800 into a pot of roughly 6,000 and it shook off one player but Harprit Singh Gurnam and Martijn Van Den Assem both called.

The [3h] completed the board and one by one the players checked, Singh Gurnam opened [7d][7s] and it was enough to earn him the pot. He must've taken a hit earlier though as despite winning that pot he has around 48,000.

Blinds up: 250/500 ante 50

7pm: Chip counts
We'll do full counts again on the next break, but here are a few to keep you going until then:

Ben Martin, 63,000
John Eames, 17,200
Chris Sly, 26,000
Martins Adeniya, 18,000
Richard Harris, 29,500
John Woodhouse, 85,000
Niall Murray, 35,000
Albert Sapiano, 25,500
Kyriacos Dionysiou, 19,500
Csaba Sandor, 105,000

Ukipt5_nottingham_main event_day1A_chris_sly.jpg

Sly is still stuck on starting stack

6:50pm: Out but some back in
Stephen Grocott, Barkatul Mohammed and Keith Christie have all busted out of the main event and decided not to re-enter so far. We're told that six players - including Martins Adeniya - have re-entered though after busting. That takes today's field to 46, with 40 unique players.

6:40pm: McLellan not planning to re-enter
Duncan McLellan - who won his second UKIPT title the last time the tour was in Nottingham - is here at Dusk Till Dawn, but he's not playing the main event, at least not today. He's actually playing a live satellite to the main event, that begins at 7pm tonight and has 10 seats guaranteed. Win or lose McLellan confirmed he'll play the main event. "I'll come down and play on Wednesday or Thursday," he said before adding. "I'm not planning on re-entering though. One bullet only I hope."

6:35pm: More for Gurnam
Harprit Singh Gurnam was already near the top of the chip charts as he had 56,000 when level four started, and he now has more as he just won a three-way pot.

He, Matthew Davenport and Andrew Berkecz all put in 3,000 on the turn of a [3d][6h][Ad][7c] board and the [4c] completed the board. Action was checked to Singh Gurnam who elected to bet just 2,500. Davenport tanked before folding but Berkecz made a quick call, Singh Gurnam opened [7h][7s] and his set of sevens was good enough to take the pot down. He's up to over 70,000 as a result.

6:25pm: Adeniya re-enters
Martins Adeniya has just taken advantage of the ability to re-enter this tournament having busted his first bullet a short time ago. We didn't see his exit hand, but Albert Sapiano is now sitting on a stack of around 51,000 having previously had just 8,800. Sapiano is prone to wild chip fluctuations and it could well be that the two incidents are connected.

If the two incidents were connected then Adeniya won't be able to get them back immediately as his new seat assignment is at a different table. You can see up to the minute seating here.

Blinds up: 200/400 ante 50

6:20pm: McCluskey takes a hit
Mark McCluskey wasted little time getting into the action as he's just clashed in a pot against Jarbas Sabatini. By the time the two players reached the river of a [6h][8c][3d][Qs][4c] board there was already 12,000 in the pot. Sabatini (cut off) fired out a bet of 5,375 and McCluskey (button) considered his options. He was getting a massage at the time, he scratched his head a couple of times before flicking in the call.

Sabatini turned over [8h][8d] and McCluskey gave a little nod before sliding his cards into the muck, he's down to 14,000 whilst Sabatini is up to 39,000.

Ukipt5_nottingham_main event_day1A_jarbas_sabitini.jpg

Jarbas Sabatini

6:10pm: McCluskey's in
Mark McCluskey is a familiar face on the UK poker circuit and indeed at Dusk Till Dawn. He's just taken his seat in the main event and will be hoping for another deep run on the UKIPT. He finished 27th at UKIPT4 Isle of Man 2 in October of last year and has also final tabled a UKIPT Series event.

6pm: Chip counts
We've been busy updating the chip count page. We're now tracking everyone who's left in and will update their chip counts as often as possible. Jonathan Burns though is out after having had a rollercoaster of a day. He was the early chip leader after eliminating two players, but started level four with a little over 40 big blinds and has now lost them.

5:50pm: The power of re-entry
We had a quick chat with Chris Sly and Martins Adeniya on the break and both indicated that they wouldn't have played Day 1A if this was a straight freezeout, but given they have the option to re-enter if they bust then they decided to take a shot today although Adeniya did say. "If Day 1B was tomorrow then I might have played today."

5:35pm: Chip counts
Below are the full chip counts from the break, these are 'eyes on' so are not 100% verified but are pretty close. It's Csaba Sandor who leads, he's taken full advantage of his earlier double up with aces against kings and has already built his stack to 73,500.

Blinds up: 150/300 ante 25

5:15pm: Break Time
The players are now on a 20 minute break. John Engledow was knocked out shortly before the break and is the third player to be eliminated today.

5:05pm: Big pot for Betts
Jeremy Betts now has more than 40,000 after winning a chunky three-way pot. The PokerStars Blog only caught the river action but with around 14,000 in the pot and a full board of [8h][Kh][2c][6h][3c] on the felt Jarbas Sabatini bet 1,625, Betts raised to 4,300, Keith Christie flat called and then after tanking for around two minutes Sabatini also made the call.

Betts: [Kc][Kd]
Christie: [2s][2d]
Sabatini: [Ad][Ac]

Betts set of kings scooped the pot then, Christie did well not to go broke as he also had a very strong hand and Sabatini had his aces cracked in not one but two spots. Christie is down to around 9,000 whilst Sabatini has about 20,000.

4:50pm: Up to 35
The size of the field is slowly growing and now stands at 35. Chris Sly has decided to ante up today, Sam Trickett's 'bestie' had a deep run at UKIPT London in November, before busting in 38th spot. His biggest lifetime cash came at EPT9 Sanremo when he topped a field of 75 to win a €2,000 pot-limit Omaha turbo tournament.

Another recipient of a fresh stack of 25,000 is the legendary Kyriacos Dionysiou aka Greek Jack. He's got cashes going all the way back to 2004 including two victories in Dusk Till Dawn's monthly deepstack tournament. He's racked up almost $500,000 in lifetime earnings.

4:40pm: Albert's here!
Albert Sapiano has just sat down at table 22. He's known for a fearless (and loose) style and is never afraid to play big pots. With this tournament being re-entry it'll be interesting to see how much pressure he puts on his opponents during the early levels of play. We'll be sure to keep an eye on him and see if he plays any crazy pots.

4:30pm: Murray trying to get minted
Niall Murray is the latest player to enter the fray, he final tabled UKIPT3 Bristol in November 2012, finishing seventh for £11,600. He finds himself at the toughest table in the room, one that contains John Eames and Martins Adeniya.

4:20pm: Cagey stuff
No huge pots to tell you about unfortunately, it's not that the players aren't seeing plenty of flops, it's just when they do most are being won with a flop c-bet.

The closest we had to a significant pot was when Andrew Peters (middle position), Jordan Theobald (cut off) and Martijn Van Den Assem (big blind) all put in 400 pre-flop and went to a [Ac][5s][2d] flop. A bet of 550 from Theobald was only called Van Den Assem. The [2h] turn was checked through and the [Qc] completed the board, Van Den Assem fired out a bet of 2,100 and Theobald released his hand.

4pm: Eames in the house
John Eames has just taken his seat in the Main Event, he's seated at the same table as Martins Adeniya and Ben Martin, who had a deep run at UKIPT1 Brighton, is also playing today as is Harprit Singh Gurnam.

In total there have now been 27 entries today. Late registration is open until the start of level seven, roughly 8.10pm.

Blinds up: 75/150

3:40pm: Jonathan Burns takes two out
It's been a good start to the day for Jonathan Burns who has eliminated two players in the opening level.

First man out was Shaun Pierrepont, he flopped a straight on the [Ax][Kx][Qx] flop and Burns flopped a set of kings. The majority of the chips went in on the [9x] turn and another nine on the river gave Burns a full house and sent Pierrepont to the rail.

Burns didn't play the main role in the second elimination though, that was taken by Csaba Sandor. After Richard Harris opened to 225 on the button, Sandor three-bet to 850 from the small blind, Billy Jones flat called and when it got back to Harris he re-raised to 1,475. Sandor then put in a five bet of around 5,000, Jones six-bet shoved for about 28,000, Harris folded and Sandor tanked for about 10 seconds before calling.

Jones: [Ks][Kh]
Sandor: [As][Ad]

When the hands were turned over the rest of the table were a little surprised to see that Sandor had aces, given that he'd tanked a bit before calling it off. The board came [3c][7s][7h][8d][Qd]. Jones was left with around 2,000 chips as Sandor was all-in for 26,375, Jones was out soon after with Burns getting the rest of his chips with pocket jacks against [Qd][Td].

3:20pm: Who are ya?
So apart from the name of Martins Adeniya it's fair to say that none of the other players are household names but is that fair? Let's find out a little more about some of the 19 playing today.

Noel Broadbent has form at Dusk Till Dawn, he won a £1,000 event here in November and followed that up with a third place finish in a £300 event in January. Combined they were good for over £40,000.

John Engledow is a regular at Dusk Till Dawn, most of his $27,528 in career earnings have been won here. His biggest single cash came in November of last year when he finished second in a £125 side event which earned him £3,300.

Frank Romanello is the father of well known poker player Roberto Romanello but is no slouch himself having won just over $19,000 in live tournaments.

Shaun Pierrepont is another to have had success in the past here at Dusk Till Dawn, he took third place in a £150 event in February 2012 cashing for £7,165.

Last, but not least, Matthew Davenport has just sat down. He's got over $450,000 in lifetime earnings and finished fourth in the UKIPT High Roller here in Season 4.

3:10pm: Welcome to the UKIPT Main Event sit and go edition
There are currently just 19 players in action in the Maim Event, split over two tables with poor Andrew Peters waiting for two more players to show before he can get into the action. 3pm: Action is under way
They always start on time here at Dusk Till Dawn and today is no different. Cards are in the air.

2:50pm: The Main Event starts here
Hello and welcome to coverage of the £1,000,000 guaranteed UKIPT5 Nottingham Main Event at Dusk Till Dawn. We're trying something new today on the UKIPT - although it's not new for Dusk Till Dawn - and having a start day on a Sunday and what's more then leaving a gap before Day 1B takes place on Wednesday.

So why are we doing that you may ask and the answer lies in the very roots of the UKIPT. When this tour began in December of 2009 it was as a grass roots poker tour aimed mostly at recreational players. So with that in mind, adding a starting day on a Sunday means that if you work Monday to Friday you can now play this UKIPT Main Event without taking a day off work. Get through today and you won't have to put another chip into a pot until Saturday when Day 2 starts and the third and final day is Sunday 19th April.

In between then and now they'll be Day 1B (Wednesday), Day 1C (Thursday) and Day 1D (Friday) and given that this is a re-entry tournament, in which it's possible to re-enter once on the same day should you bust in the opening six levels, then it's theoretically possible to fire eight bullets in this event. That and the fact that there are four start days means that we could certainly see some interesting play in the final level tonight.

UKIPT4_Nott_May_2014_Entrance_M3DM7486.jpg

The UKIPT is back at Dusk Till Dawn

To get that far players will have to have successfully negotiated their way through 11 prior levels as the plan today is to play 12 levels which are each 45 minutes in length. They'll be a 20 minute break every three levels meaning action should wrap up around 1am.

Last time we were here Duncan McLellan defeated a field of 1,223 to win his second UKIPT title, one thing you can guarantee this week is that it's going to be big and it all starts today. Cards are in the air at 3pm.

Key UKIPT5 Nottingham Facts:

- 25,000 starting stack
- Blinds starting at 50/100 for 250 big blinds
- Day 1A is today, Days 1B-1D take place Wednesday to Friday, the field will then combine for the first time on Saturday before playing down to a winner on Sunday.
-The UKIPT structure has been tweaked for Season 5. Levels on Day 1 are now 45 minutes, on Day 2 that increases to 60 minutes.
- Full UKIPT5 Nottingham schedule here
- Satellites to this event are still running. You can qualify online at PokerStars or in live satellites here at Dusk Till Dawn. The live satellites take place on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday starting at 7pm and are all £100+£10 re-buys.

11:25pm: Done for the day
Day 1A of the £1,000,000 GTD UKIPT5 Nottingham Main Event is over and 15 players from the 50 who entered (40 uniques, 10 re-entries) have survived. They'll be back on Saturday for Day 1B. Before then we have the small matter of the £3,000 High Roller, which begins on Tuesday and three more start days in the main event, which we'll pick up again on Wednesday.

Stay tuned for a full wrap of today's play.

11:15pm: Harris bombs out
"I've only looked at one," said Richard Harris who was all-in for around 24,000 and had been called by Adam Pikett. The Welshman asked Pikett to show first and he obliged, opening [Ac][Kd], Harris had the [Qs] and squeezed his second card to reveal the [9c]. "Live cards," he said and it was looking good for him on the [Ts][5h][Qc][10h] board but the [Ks] river gave the pot to Pikett.

16 left.

11:10pm: Last five hands
The plan was to play 12 levels today but as we're down to the final two tables the decision has been made to stop play at the end of this level.

11pm: Sapiano swings downwards
Oh my! We said Albert Sapiano was having a swingy day but we didn't expect this. Our thanks to Stuart Kinghorn who relayed the information to us.

It seems Sapiano flopped a straight holding [4x][3x] against Richard Iwan Strittmatter, however the turn gave Strittmatter a better straight. On the turn Strittmatter moved all-in and Sapiano sighed and called.

That left Sapiano with around 50,000 and on the very next hand he shoved blind with what turned out to be [Kx][Qx] and was looked up by Sunil Pancholi who had [Ax][Qx]. The board stayed low and just like that Sapiano was out. Meanwhile with around 160,000 Pancholi is the chip leader.

10:50pm: Sapiano swinging
Albert Sapiano is enjoying a typically swingy day. At the start of this level he looked a little annoyed with the way things were going buy he's spun his stack back up to around 95,000 in short order.

He reached that high point by all but eliminating Colin Hotchkiss. We only caught the denouement of the hand but Sapiano had [Td][9s] on a [4s][2c][Ts][7h][7d] board, as we arrived Hotchkiss's hand was being scooped into the muck so we saw just the [As]. The chips were being counted down as the stacks were close and Hotchkiss only had 400 left at the end of the hand and was out on the very next hand.

He finishes 18th today as we earlier lost Matthew Bonham in 19th place.

10:40pm: Chip counts
As the tenth level of the day gets under way here's how the remaining 19 players stack up:

Table 21:
1. Adam Pikett, 24,900
2. Martijn Van Den Assem, 129,000
4. Mark Mccluskey, 54,000
5. Jeremy Betts, 75,000

Martijn Van Den Assem

Blinds up: 600/1,200, ante 200

10:20pm: Break time
The 19 remaining players are now on a break. Denis Stojka, Jarbas Sabatini and Ross Mannion are the latest casualties on Day 1A.

10:15pm: Pikett passes jacks
"I wouldn't have passed jacks there," said Frank Romanello. "I passed king-queen but no way I'm passing jacks," said Richard Harris. They were both in shock at what had just happened, let's back up.

It was Harris who got the action in this pot started, raising to 2,500, Romanello smooth called as did Adam Pikett, who was on the button. From the small blind Martijn Van Den Assem, who has taken the chip lead, pushed forward a tower of blue 5k chips totalling 40,000 from his stack of around 120,000.

Harris tanked before folding, Romanello let his hand go instantly and Pikett thought it over before folding [Jc][Js] face-up, leaving himself with around 24,000 (24 big blinds).

10pm: Chip leaders
As things stand these are the guys contesting the chip lead:

Sandor Csaba, 96,000
Harprit Gurnam, 95,000
Albert Sapiano, 90,000
Ben Martin, 85,000
Kyriacos Dionysiou 80,000
Sunil Pancholi, 80,000

9:50pm: Exits
Just 22 players are left in, the latest trio to exit the tournament are: John Woodhouse, Martins Adeniya and Andrew Peters.

Blinds up: 500/1,000, ante 100

9:30pm: Two big pots for Betts
Jeremy Betts is mounting a comeback as he just won decent sized pots in a row. In the first he reached the river of a [Qc][Jd][8d][8c][7c] board and shoved for 10,350. There was roughly 22,000 in the middle and Frank Romanello got a count before calling the shove, Betts showed [Kc][Jc] for a flush and Romanello mucked.

That pot took him to around 45,000 and he then took a pot against Ross Mannion. There was unknown action to the turn but on the turn of a [Tc][Qd][9d][4c] board Betts bet 12,000 and Mannion called. The [7d] completed the board and it went check check. Mannion rolled over [As][Qh] but he was behind to the [Th][Td] of Betts.

9:15pm: Sly sent home
A huge pot between Chris Sly and Kyriacos Dionysiou left Sly all but out and Dionysiou with a 100,000+ stack. Pre-flop Sly raised from middle position, Albert Sapiano flat called from the button and Dionysiou flat called from the small blind.

On the [3s][Ts][Ah] flop it was checked to Sly he bet 3,500, Sapiano called only for Dionysiou to raise to 10,000, Sly then moved all-in for 37,700, Sapiano folded and after getting a count of the shove Dionysiou made the call.

Dionysiou: [Ad][Td]
Sly: [Ks][Js]

Dionysiou was in front with top two but Sly had a huge draw, the [Tc] turn killed his hand dead though and the [6s] completed the board. Sly actually had Dionusiou covered by 4,100 and they went in the very next hand with [Jh][8c] but he couldn't improve against the [As][Kd] of Colin Hotchkiss.

Ukipt5_nottingham_main event_day1A_kyriacos_dionysiou.jpg

Kyriacos Dionysiou

8:55pm: Berkecz bounced
We caught the action with Andrew Berkecz already all-in and a [Th][Kh][2c] flop on the felt. There were two would be executioners for Berkecz and one of them, Sunil Pancholi, moved all-in for about 24,000 into a pot of around 6,000 (well that was what was in front of Berkecz) the other active player released their hand and it was time for showdown.

Berkecz: [9c][8c]
Pancholi: [Ks][Ts]

The [Kc] turn meant Berkecz was drawing dead and he was out of his seat before the meaningless [5d] completed the board.

Blinds up: 400/800, ante 100

8:35pm: The 'you show first' game
There was a bit of a stand off over who should show first in a hand between Kyriacos Dionysiou and Adam Pickett which looked for a moment as if it might escalate.

Pre-flop it was Dionysiou who opened the action, making it 1,500 from under-the-gun, Pickett three-bet to 3,000 from under-the-gun+1 and when it folded round to Dionysiou he called. As he did so he ribbed Albert Sapiano for folding his big blind, "I'm eating," replied Sapiano. "I'm taking five minutes off," he added alluding to the fact that he's in more pots than most.

On the [5h][2h][8c] flop Pickett c-bet 3,000 and Dionysiou called, Pickett has a strange way of putting chips into the pot, taking them over the line in one movement and then almost dropping them individually. It's not a sting bet as such as he's not angling but it looks a little strange.

Anyway, the [Kc] turn was checked through and the [Js] completed the board another check from Dionysiou was followed by a bet of 3,000 from Pickett and a call from Dionysiou and the stand off then began. Pickett wanted Dionysiou to show but the latter was insistent that Pickett should show first. "I called you," he said. He had a point and eventually Pickett showed [Ks][Qh] and it was good enough to win the pot.

8:15pm: Late registration is closed
Late registration has now closed. There were 50 entries in total today, with 40 unique entries and 10 re-entries. There are currently 27 players remaining as Colin Hotchkiss has elected to re-enter.

8pm: Half-time chip counts

Sunil Pancholi leads after Day 1A of UKIPT5 Nottingham

Today was the calm before the storm where we ran a little experiment on the UKIPT by having a start day on a Sunday, allowing those who work during the week the chance to play a UKIPT without having to take any time off work. In all 40 players liked the sound of that, 10 of whom doubly so as they exercised their right to re-enter taking the total number of entries today to 50.

When 10 levels had been completed it was Sunil Pancholi who had fared best of all and he leads the way with a chip stack of 170,800. He was always in contention, but his chip lead is virtue to one of the most amazing blow ups we've ever seen on the UKIPT. If we tell you that Albert Sapiano was involved then you might understand but the poker veteran experienced a swingy day even by his standards. With 45 minutes left in the day he had 24,000, 15 minutes later he had 95,000 and then five minutes later zero. He lost half his stack with a straight to a higher straight and then shoved his remaining 50,000 (over 40 big blinds) blind on the next hand.

Ukipt5_nottingham_main event_day1A_sunil_pancholi.jpg

Pancholi's timing was spot on

He actually had a hand in king-queen but Pancholi found ace-queen, the board stayed low and Sapiano had to go. The only place Pancholi was going was to the top of the chip counts, 14 other players made it through and their counts can be seen below.

Sunil Pancholi, United Kingdom, 170,800
Kyriacos Dionysiou, Greece, 111,800
Sandor Csaba, Hungary, PokerStars Qualifier, 109,100

Martin - back building a stack on the UKIPT

It was a happy return to the UKIPT for Ben Martin, he had a deep run on the UKIPT in Season 1 in Brighton but hasn't been seen at a UKIPT for a while, he was one of five players to finish with more than 100,000. A little further down Niall Murray, who placed seventh at UKIPT3 Bristol sailed through to Day 2 with 83,500 and tour regular Mark McCluskey also progressed, even shoving for 1.5x the pot on the last hand with just ace high. He played the man as afterwards Martjin Van Den Assem, who folded to that shove, said. "Today was the only start day I could play and I wanted to play Day 2."

So the Dutchman will be back but plenty of big names fell by the wayside today. Martins Adeniya and John Eames were two of 10 players to re-enter today and bust both bullets, you suspect they'll be back later in the week. As might Matt Davenport, he finished fourth here in the High Roller in Season 4 and bust out halfway through the day today and elected not to re-buy. Others to try and fail included: Chris Sly, Ross Mannion, Michael Howard and Billy Jones, who ran kings into aces in the first level.

Adeniya - fired two bullets

The 15 who did advance now have a long wait until midday on Saturday when they'll be back for Day 2. The PokerStars Blog will return before then though. We'll be back on Tuesday to cover Day 1 of the High Roller before turning our attention to the Main Event from Wednesday. For now though, goodnight.

UKIPT5 Nottingham: Fill your boots with Footgolf, Beer pong and more

At the beginning of every EPT stop the President of the EPT - Edgar Stuchly - takes to the stage and gives a brief introduction. Among his key messages he always says: "We wish you a successful time at the tables and a fun time off them." It's an ethos that's been adopted on the UKIPT where the tour has always been about having a good craic at the felt and an even better time should you bust out. In the past there's been Go Karting trips, activity days and more on the tour.

With that in mind the UKIPT Hotels team have lined up some fantastic activities for anyone playing in the UKIPT5 Nottingham Poker Series which began yesterday and runs until Sunday 19th April.

Golf is a popular pastime with poker players and even more so with football players. It's no surprise then that in 2006 a bright spark came up with the idea of Footgolf. The premise is much the same as golf, but instead of using clubs and a golf ball you use your feet and a football. The advantages over golf are clear, all you need are a pair of trainers and a spare couple of hours as Footgolf takes less time to play than golf.

negreanu_sheringham_horecki_vilamoura.JPG

Do you think Negreanu would be any good at Footgolf?

If that takes your fancy then the date you need to mark in your diary is midday Saturday, it'll cost £25 to play and PokerStars are giving a £330 Nottingham Cup seat to the player who shoots the lowest round.

If you think your hand eye coordination skills are as good as your poker smarts then perhaps the Sherwood Forest Adventure trip will be more your thing. For the price of £70 we'll provide transport to the legendary Sherwood Forest where you can pull off your best Robin Hood impression in the archery competition. After that you'll have the chance to hop behind the wheel of a 4x4 vehicle for a spot of off-roading...whilst blindfolded. Yes blindfolded. If you survive that then you'll finish off the day with a knife throwing competition. All supervised by professionals of course. This too takes place on Saturday.

Last but not least if you prefer to get your competitive juices flowing in an indoor activity - not a long shot given you like poker - then we're also hosting a Beer pong competition. That'll take place at The Victory Pub at the Village Urban Resort Hotel on both Friday and Saturday night and is sure to be great fun.

Can you best Boeree at Beer Pong?

2am: Felix Stephensen leads 21 survivors in UKIPT5 Nottingham High Roller
The UKIPT5 Nottingham festival began in earnest today as the high rollers rolled into town to play the £3,000 + £200 High Roller. It was an eight max tournament with one re-buy allowed and 45 players entered, six of whom took up the option to re-buy. One of those was Felix Stephensen and his second bullet went far better than his first and he leads tonight.

He was first out just 30 minutes into play when holding ace-queen he flopped a queen and turned an ace only to run into an opponent with aces. The 24-year-old Norwegian, who has lived in London for three years, is playing his first UKIPT outside of the capital and ran his second stack of 25,000 all the way up to 145,000 by the time today's ten levels had ended. "I caught some good hands, picked some good spots, got people to call when I had it and fold when I didn't," was his precise summary of how his day unfolded.

Ukipt5_nottingham_high_roller_day1_felix_stephensen.jpg

Stephensen - needed two bullets

The Man Utd fan leads a chasing pack that includes: Ivan Luca (122,500), Ian Simpson (115,200) and Rapinder Cheema (109,200) who were the only other players to finish with six-figure stacks. For Luca it was a continuation of an amazing run since he came to Europe in December, a second place in the EPT11 Malta €10,000 High Roller the highlight so far. Contrastingly to that Rapinder Cheema, who won UKIPT5 London in January, was playing his first ever High Roller, he needed two bullets but will be back tomorrow with a chunk of chips.

The full list of survivors can be seen below:

Felix Stephensen, United Kingdom, 145,000
Ivan Luca, Argentina, 122,500
Ian Simpson, United Kingdom, 115,200
Rapinder Cheema, United Kingdom, 109,200
Ludovic Geilich, United Kingdom, 87,000
Thiago Nishijima, Brazil, 82,300
Keith Johnson, United Kingdom, 69,400
Mitchell Johnson, United Kingdom, 58,600
Niall Farrell, United Kingdom, 51,200
Jack Salter, United Kingdom, 50,600

Boeree made it through

There's still some way to go to the money as only the top seven get paid:

1st. £46,800
2nd. £33,750
3rd. £21,500
4th. £16,300
5th. £12,600
6th. £9,660
7th. £7,800

It was a stacked field and some of the big names who are free to play the Main Event tomorrow are: Jake Cody, Simon Deadman, Igor Kurganov, Sam Trickett, Ollie Price and Marcel Luske. The survivors will be back from 1pm tomorrow and play to a winner, we'll be turning our focus to the Main Event, which starts at noon, but we'll intermittently be dipping back into the High Roller and ramp up the coverage when they reach the final table of eight. But until tomorrow it's goodnight.

1:40am: Done for the day
Day 1 of the UKIPT5 Nottingham High Roller is over, 21 players from the 51 entries (45 uniques, 6 re-entries) have survived. Felix Stephensen is chip leader, whilst Neville Gothold and Neil Strike were eliminated during the last five hands.

1:25am: Last five hands
The last five hands have been called. It looks like Felix Stephensen may have taken the chip lead, he's up to around 115,000, whilst Ivan Luca has lost a few but still have a six figure stack. Ludovic Geilich is also running up a stack.

But, Simon Higgins and Kuljinder Sidhu have been knocked out. 23 players are left.

1:20am: Strike gets a double
Down to just 10,300 Neil Strike three-bet shoved over the top of Keith Johnson's 3,000 opening bet, Jack Salter smooth called and Johnson then got out the way.

Salter: [Tc][Td]
Strike: [6h][6s]

Flop: [7h][Qh][Jd]

"We want a heart," said Salter.

Turn: [9h]

"Maybe we don't want a heart," said Salter.

River: [Th]

"The most brutal heart," said Salter. Double up for Strike who moves back to around starting stack.

1:15am: Cody knocked out by his hand
A gruesome exit for Team PokerStars Pro Jake Cody to tell you about now...

After Kuljinder Sidhu opened, Neville Gothold moved all-in for 26,000 and Jake Cody then moved all-in from the big blind for less (around 18,000) and Sidhu folded. Gothold showed [Ts][4s] whilst Cody had pocket aces. Cody famously won a big pot on his way to winning EPT Deauville with ten-four, cracking kings in a huge pot. Well this time it would be he who had a big pocket pair cracked by the ten-four as the flop contained two tens and gave Gothold a lead that he didn't relinquish on the turn or river.

Kevin Allen and John Haigh have also been eliminated.

1:05am: Prize pool information
We've just had the prize pool information through. The winner of the UKIPT5 Nottingham High Roller will collect £46,800 and the top seven finishers will get paid:

1st. £46,800
2nd. £33,750
3rd. £21,500
4th. £16,300
5th. £12,600
6th. £9,660
7th. £7,800

12:55am: Last level of the night
We're into the tenth and final level of the night, 28 players remain. At the end of this level play will end for the night and they'll return at 2pm tomorrow and play to a winner.

Blinds up: 600/1,200 ante 200

12:50am: Simpson doubles, Sidhu left short
A fortuitous double up for Ian Simpson has seen his stack surge upwards and left Kuljinder Sidhu severely dented. It all went in pre-flop with Simpson four-bet jamming for 33,700 with [8c][8d] and Sidhu calling with [Td][Ts]. "Nice hand," said Simpson when he saw he was behind. The [8s][Kh][Jd] flop gave him the lead and left Sidhu shaking his head. The [6d] turn and [9h] river doubled Simpson to around 69,000 and left Sidhu with 17,000.

11:35pm: Simpson makes a good calldown
Every time we walk past his table Ian Simpson seems to be involved in a pot and it was no different on the last occasion. He opened to 1,800 from the hijack, Kuljinder Sidhu three-bet to 4,000 and Simpson called.

Simpson then proceeded to check call bets of 4,500 and 7,800 respectively on the [6s][7d][Jc] flop and [9s] turn before both players checked the [Ah] river. "One pair," said Simpson showing [5d][5h], Sidhu couldn't beat it and Simpson took the pot.

11:20pm: Trickett gone, Jones can't keep up
Sam Trickett and Rhys Jones are the latest players to have busted from the High Roller.

11:05pm: Higgins wins, Hall jamming
A decent sized pot just now for Simon Higgins as he took some chips from Ian Simpson. It was the UKIPT4 London runner-up who opened the action, raising to 1,600, Higgins called as did Jake Cody from the big blind.

On the [7h][5d][5s] flop Simpson bet 2,500 and Higgins was the only caller. Simpson fired another bullet on the [8d] turn, this time 4,800 and Higgins called. On the [6h] river Simpson slowed down and a bet of 5,000 from Higgins gave him the pot.

Meanwhile on another table Niall Farell opened to 1,700 only to have Tom Hall jam for what looked like 20,000. Most of Hall's chips were yellow 1K chips but there was one blue 5K chip on the bottom. "There's a blue chip on the bottom right?" asked Farrell? When he was told that there was he released his hand. "I've got a nice hand to call a 10 bb shove but not that much," said Farrell.

10:55pm: Final four tables
Ben Vinson was knocked out in 33rd, this is how the final four tables shape up:

10:55pm: The Price is wrong
Three exits to tell you about as Oliver Price, Sean Rafael and Steinar Edduson are all out. 33 players are left over five tables. This is an eight max tournament so with one more elimination the tournament staff will collapse a table.

10:40pm: Neil strikes a blow to Sion
A decent sized pot for Neil Strike early in level seven has seen him climb to around 27,000. Matas Cimbolas opened to 1,500, Craig McCorkell and Elior Sion both called and then Strike raised to 4,600 from the big blind and Sion was the only caller.

The two of them saw a [Tc][7h][4s] flop, Strike c-bet 6,000 and Sion flicked in the call. The turn was the [4h], Strike moved all-in for around 10,000 and Sion folded.

10:20pm: Complete chip counts
Late registration is now closed and below is the complete list of chip counts of the 36 players left in. Leading the way is Max Silver and he's some way clear of Rapinder Cheema - another UKIPT champion - who's second, whilst UKIPT4 London runner-up Ian Simpson lies third. Blinds up: 300/600 ante 75

10pm: End of level six
The players are now on a 20 minute break.

9:55pm: Sidhu takes a seat
Kuljinder Sidhu is the latest player to take a seat, taking the total number of entrants to 51.

9:45pm: Geilich gets some back
The PokerStars Blog arrived at the table to see a bet of 3,400 in front of Craig McCorkell (button) and a bet totalling 6,950 in front of Ludovic Geilich (cut-off) so it looked like McCorkell had three-bet and Geilich had then come back over the top with a four bet from his stack of 30,000. After thinking for about 20 seconds McCorkell made the call.

The two of them saw a [7h][6d][2d] flop, Geilich checked, McCorkell bet 5,300 and Geilich smooth called. The [6h] fell on the turn and both players declined the chance to bet and then followed suit on the [9s] river. Geilich opened [Ac][Kh] and it was good. He's back up to around 43,000 whilst McCorkell is down to 24,000.

9:25pm: Goulder gone
Alex Goulder has a great record in tournaments at Dusk Till Dawn but won't be winning this one. Marcin Milde and Anthony Nicholls are also out.

Blinds up: 250/500 ante 50

9:15pm: Gothold gets hold of some of Higgins' chips
In such a stacked field it's somewhat of a surprise that the chip lead is currently held by Neville Gothold who has no recorded live cashes, but we do know that he played the High Roller here in Season 4.

He's the chip leader courtesy of winning a big pot against Simon Higgins, who was the incumbent when the hand started. The action was started by Higgins, he opened to 1,000 and then called when an in position Gothold three-bet to 2,700. The flop fell [4c][3c][Qd] and Higgins check called a bet of 4,800. Gothold fired again on the [Kc] turn, his bet was 7,500 and as Higgins pondered his option Gothold inhaled deeply from his plastic cigarette. The [Jh] finished off proceedings and both players checked. Higgins showed [As][Kh] but Gothold had [Kd][Jd].

"You bet three times with the worst hand and then check with the best hand," said Higgins to Gothold. "I thought you had trips of ace-queen," replied Gothold. "I wasn't sure and I was getting nervous," he added. After that hand Gothold is up to 80,000 whilst Higgins is down to 65,000.

9pm: Luske and Kellett on the rail
Just four exits so far in this tournament, with Richard Kellett and Marcel Luske the last two to head to the rail.

8:50pm: Up to 50
The total number of entries has ticked up to 50. Six players have re-entered so far, they are: Sam Trickett, Igor Kurganov, Chris Brammer, Ivan Luca, Rapinder Cheema and Felix Stephensen.

8:35pm: Trickett gets tricky
Sam Trickett might be on his second bullet of 25,000 but this one is going far better than the first as he's now over the 50,000 mark after winning a big pot against Anthony Nicholls.

Pre-flop Nicholls opened from the hijack, Trickett three-bet to 2,400 from the big blind and Nicholls flat called. On the [8d][5c][Kd] flop Trickett bet 4,000 and Nicholls gave him action. Both players checked the [Td] flop and Trickett then swiftly bet 15,000 on the [2s] river. In short order Nicholls made the call, Trickett rolled over [Jd][5d] and Nicholls - who was down the other end of the table to Trickett - leaned forward to peer at Trickett's cards, saw that he had a flush and then mucked his cards. Nicholls is down to just 4,200 as a result.

8:05pm: More new entries
Kevin Allen, Keith Johnson and Anthony Nicholls have taken the total number of entries in this event up to 46. Whilst Sam Trickett has busted and then re-entered.

7:55pm: Details on Gudger's exit
Our thanks to Ben Dobson for telling us about how Eleanor Gudger lost her chips. Turns out it was Iaron Lightbourne who did most of the damage. He opened under-the-gun with [Ks][7s] and next to act Gudger smooth called with pocket eights. There was unknown betting action on the [8s][6s][5x] flop, before the rest of the chips went in on the [Jd] turn. Gudger had the lead but the river was a spade to give Lightbourne a flush.

She then lost the rest of he chips in a race with tens against ace-king.

Blinds up: 150/300 ante 25

7:25pm: Break time
The players are now on a 20 minute break. A reminder that late registration is open until the start of level seven (roughly 10.10pm).

7:15pm: Up to 44
The field is up to 44 in total, although there's currently only 41 players in the field as three of those entries are re-entries.Also Eleanor Gudger appears to be the first player out of the tournament as she's now playing the satellite to the Main Event, which has just started.

Steinar Edduson is the man most likely to have got her chips as his stack is now up to 40,000.

7:05pm: The field gets tougher
This event already had a stacked field and now you can add: Bryn Kenney, Elior Sion, Matas Cimbolas and Richard Kellett - who chopped the High Roller last time we were at Dusk Till Dawn - to the field.

6:50pm: Chip counts
It's Max Silver who's jumped out to an early lead, he eliminated Rapinder Cheema to get his stack up to around 64,000 whilst Simon Higgins and Ian Simpson have also raced out of the blocks.

6:30pm: Re-buys and new entries
Both Felix Stephensen and Rapinder Cheema are on their second bullet, having been eliminated and then taken up the option to re-buy.

Meanwhile the field has got a little tougher as Sam Trickett and Igor Kurganov and both now playing.

6:15pm: New table of death emerges
We're up to 36 runners now and a new table has opened up and it's some line-up, check this out:

15 1 Tom Hall
15 2 Ivan Luca
15 3 Ludovic Geilich
15 4 Craig Mccorkell
15 5 Felix Stephensen
15 6 Liv Boeree
15 7 Christopher Brammer

Ukipt5_nottingham_high_roller_day1_liv_boeree.jpg

Liv's at a tough table

So in turn we have Tom Hall - UKIPT3 leader board winner, Ivan Luca the Argentinian who's been on a tear since he came to Europe and was runner-up in the €10,000 High Roller at EPT11 Malta in March. Ludovich Geilich, the UKIPT4 Marbella champion who is always entertaining to watch and is in form having won a £400 event for £27,500 at the weekend.

To his left sits Craig McCorkell, bracelet winner, third place finisher in the EPT11 London £10,000 High Roller and a man with over $1,780,000 in lifetime earnings. That figure is dwarfed by Felix Stephensen, the Norwegian finished second in last year's WSOP Main Event and earned $5,147,911 for that performance. When he glances to his left he'll be starring at Team PokerStars Pro's Liv Boeree and she's got the dangerous Chris Brammer on her left. He won the UKIPT1 leader board and was at one time the number one ranked online tournament player.

Fancy yourself in that line-up?

6pm: Pots for Higgins and Deadman
They'll be no limping at table 14! Neville Gothold tried though, he limped under-the-gun, Marcel Luske then called from under-the-gun+2 only for Rhys Jones to make it 700 from one seat along. It folded round to Simon Higgins in the small blind, he raised to 2,200 and one by one everyone folded. Things getting aggressive already then.

One table over Alex Goulder opened to 350 from under-the-gun and picked up three callers including Simon Deadman who was on the button. On the [8d][6s][Jc] flop it checked round to Deadman, he bet 1,100 and John Haigh was the only caller. Both players checked the [3d] turn and the [4s] completed the board. Haigh check called a bet of 2,200 and said: "It's good," when Deadman showed [Jd][9h].

5:50pm: Cody ready to battle
A poker training session with Carl Froch has put Jake Cody in a bullish mood.

5:45pm: More names enter the fray
The tournament board is showing that 27 players are now in this event. Among the latest editions are EPT10 Monte Carlo runner-up Jack Salter, Ben Dobson and Iaron Lightbourne.

5:30pm: Cheema takes one from Silver
No big pots of note yet but Rapinder Cheema - who's playing his first UKIPT High Roller - just took a pot from Max Silver, which will no doubt be good for his confidence.

Silver opened from mid-position and Cheema smooth called from the small blind. On the [3d][Qd][8s] flop Silver c-bet 450 and Cheema again called. The [2h] turn was checked through and Cheema then fired 700 on the [2d] river, Silver released his hand and the pot went to Cheema.

5:20pm: Tough crowd
With this being a high roller it's highly unlikely there will be many 'easy' tables in the room but table 14 looks to have a particularly gruesome line-up. We'll be keeping a close eye on this table that's for sure.

14 1 Neville Gothold
14 2 Jake Cody
14 3 Marcel Luske
14 4 Rhys Jones
14 5 Mitchell Johnson
14 6 Felix Vincent Stephensen
14 7 Ben Vinson
14 8 Simon Higgins

5:10pm: And we're off
Action is under way in the high roller.

5pm: The high rollers are in town
Welcome to Day 1 coverage of the £150,000 GTD UKIPT5 Nottingham High Roller coverage. With the buy-in weighing in at £3,000 + £2,00 we need 50 bums on seats for the guarantee to be met. That target was helped along by last night's live satellite which generated six seats. Mitch Johnson, Marcel Luske, Neville Gothold, Marius Wolmarans, Eleanor Gudger and Ian Simpson have all got in for a discount.

Action has yet to start - many of the high rollers took part in a 5-a-side football tournament this afternoon and are heading here from that - but we've spotted Max Silver, recent Sunday Million winner Marcin Milde and UKIPT5 London winner Rapinder Cheema in the building.

Max Silver (pictured at UKIPT4 Dublin)

The plan today is to play 10 levels each of which will 45 minutes meaning play will end around 1.30am. Each player starts with 25,000 chips and they have the option to re-buy once should they bust before late registration closes at around 10.10pm. The players who are here have just been called to their seats and action is about to start.

UKIPT5 Nottingham Day 1B: Level 1-6 updates (250/500 ante 50)

4:55pm: Tea time
Players have now gone on break as we've reached the end of level 6. You'll find level seven updates in a new post shortly. --JS

4:45pm: Geilich straight back at it
As we alluded to below Ludovic Geilich is now playing the Main Event, and in true Ludo style has wasted little time getting involved.
He opened in early position and then called when Antoan Katsarov three-bet to 3,000 from the small blind. The flop was an interesting [4d][Kd][Qd], Katsarov c-bet 2,500 and Geilich smooth called. No one bet the [8d] turn but Geilich bet 2,500 on the [9s] river and Katsarov released his hand. -- NW

4:40pm: A pretty ridiculous table
The latest wave of entrants include Max Silver, Jack Salter, Craig McCorkell and Ludovich Geilich, all of whom are fresh off Day 2 of the High Roller. There's an interesting dynamic developing at one table, with Silver, Ben Vinson, Salter and Christopher Brammer all sat in a row. Throw Simon Higgins into the mix as well and that's not a table we'd like to sit at any time soon. Salter agreed, calling it "a pretty ridiculous table". --JS

4:20pm: High Roller in the money
The High Roller is now on the bubble as they've gone from 12 players to eight in short order. Craig McCorkell, Ian Simpson, Keith Johnson Max Silver and Ludovic Geilich are those who've lost their chips.

Geilich was kind enough to tell us about how he bubbled. "Mitch (Johnson) opened, I jammed about 50,000 (20 big blinds) with pocket nines and he's got kings," Geilich went on to bemoan his bad track record at Dusk Till Dawn, "I've never cashed here, it's my bogey place. I've bubbled three tournaments here, I should have just walked away on the bubble."

So now just seven remain and this is how they stack up, everyone is now guaranteed £7,800

2 1 Tom Hall, 287,000
2 3 Thiago Nishijima, 170,000
2 4 Matas Cimbolas, 340,000
2 5 Ivan Luca, 170,000
2 6 Mitchell Johnson, 140,000
2 7 Bryn Kenney, 64,000
2 8 Felix Vincent Stephensen, 98,000

The high roller final table during the bubble

Blinds up: 250/500 ante 50

4:05pm: All is not what it seems
After flopping two pair, Chirac Thanki was probably feeling pretty good about his hand. His [ad][8d] certainly looked good on the [8h][9h][ac] flop, enough for him to raise Valentin Svilenov's 1,600 bet up to 4,500. The [6d] turn was a little scary, though. After the river bricked any further straight or flush draws, Thanki called Svilenov's all-in shove, only to find out that he'd turned the straight with [th][7h]. As it happened, it was a fantastic flop for Svilenov too, as his straight and flush draw would win almost 49 per cent of the time. With that call, Thanki is eliminated from the tournament. Will he re-buy? We'll find out. --JS

4pm: Cody climbing
Team PokerStars Pro Jake Cody is already up to 60,000 and the PokerStars Blog saw him win a pot to climb to that peak.
In the first hand Philippe Souki raised to 900 from early positon, Cody flat called on the button and from the big blind David Turofsky did likewise. The action checked to Cody on the [Jh][5s][Tc] flop, Cody bet 1,600 and Souki was the only caller. The UKIPT3 London final tablist called another 2,900 on the [3d] turn and the [9s] completed the board.

This time Souki changed tactics, leading into Cody for 5,900, the triple-crown winner considered his options for a decent amount of time before raising to 20,000 and Souki instantly released his hand. He's dropped to 17,800 as a result. --NW

3:45 pm: Exits
A few more exits to tell you about with the following players all having busted...for now. This is a re-entry tournament after all. Alex Goulder, Martin Hughes, Niall Mcaleer, Sacha Brookes, Van Tuan Phan, Haoran Cai, Carlos Citara and Stewart Jones are all out. --NW

3:30pm: No rest for the High Rollers
An increasing amount of players who came back for Day 2 of the High Roller are hopping straight into the main event. Ben Dobson and Niall Farrell are now starting to try and spin up their 25,000 starting stacks, with Farrell taking down the first pot he played.

Meanwhile, one player who busted the high roller yesterday faced a tough river decision. Rhys Jones was contemplating calling Zhung Ming Lao's 2,650 river bet on a [kh][8s][5s][ks][2c] board. It clearly wasn't an easy decision for Jones, but he ultimately put the chips in the middle. Lao showed [as][3s] for the nut flush and scooped the pot. --JS

They're down to 12 players in the High Roller, with seven getting paid there's plenty of short stacks looking for a double up, whilst it's Thiago Nishijima who leads with 230,000. Tom Hall (210,000) and Matas Cimbolas (195,000) are also well placed.

Table 13:
13 1 Craig Mccorkell, 17,200
13 4 Ivan Luca, 175,000
13 5 Felix Vincent Stephensen, 31,000
13 6 Mitchell Johnson, 35,000

To get to this stage some players had to be eliminated of course, below is the list of who's finished where so far today.

15 Niall Farrell
16 Iaron Lightbourne
17 Marius Wolmarans
18 Rapinder Cheema

3pm: Cody in the house
We're up to 102 players in the Main Event and Team PokerStars Pro Jake Cody is among them. He suffered a brutal exit in the High Roller yesterday, but given the cards involved he thankfully was able to see the funny side of it.

2:55pm: A cruel river and the number of the beast
We picked up the action at table 23 following a raise to 800 pre-flop from David Williams. It was called three times and a flop of [Th][5c][qs] fell. Williams continued for 1,000 and Olov Jansson looked it up. The [4s] turn was checked by Williams, prompting Jansson to take a 2,000 stab at the point which was called. The board was completed by the [kd], completing any up/down or gutshot straight draws that were out there. Jansson's 3,600 river bet was called and Williams turned over [ah][kh] for a rivered pair of kings. It turned out that king helped Jansson's hand too, but his [kc][jc] was no good.

Meanwhile, there were some wicked things going on at another table where we saw a [6h][6c][6s] flop. The run-out wouldn't be too evil on any player, however, as one small bet from Mark Karoullas was enough to take it down. --JS

2:50pm: Gone but never to be forgotten
Regardless of what happens here in the next few days we just had the most important moment of the week. As the players returned from their break Simon Trumper took to the microphone, paused the tournament clocks and the entire room fell silent for a minutes silence for Dave 'Devilfish' Ulliott who sadly passed away last week.

It was impeccably observed by all inside Dusk Till Dawn as poker players paid their respects to a man, who quite likely, got many of them interested in the game. He was a legned, a pioneer, the king of the one liner and one of the few poker players simply known by just one name. Here's to you Devilfish, you will never be forgotten and poker owes you a massive debt of gratitude. -- NW

2:20pm: First break of the day
It's the end of level three and players have gone on a 20 minute break. --JS

2:15pm: Chips are flying
With players settled in, chips are certainly beginning to move around, and we were around from the early stages of what turned into a very large pot indeed. Four players had called Antoan Katsarov's 2,250 pre-flop bet, leading to a dry [2c][7d][5s] rainbow flop. It's not the kind of board you'd usually expect to see a lot of action, but with so much in the pot already it's hard not to put up a fight.

Katsarov put out a continuation bet from under the gun of 3,750 which was called in two spots by Oliver Classen and David Denny. The turn was the [jd], bringing a diamond flush draw. Katsarov opted to check over to Classen, who led out for 7,500. He found a caller in Denny, but not in the initial raiser who let his hand go. The river was the [9h], missing the flush and not bringing much else. Both players decided to check, and Classen's pocket kings were clearly more than enough to rake in a not-too-shabby 35,000 pot. --JS

2:10pm: Power poker from Brammer
Did Chris Brammer have it? We'll never know but he just picked up a nice pot courtesy of a pre-flop three-bet. Soleiman Masud limped from under-the-gun, two seats along Stelian Alexandru Bot bumped the price up to 775, only for Brammer to then raise to 2,700. Chi Zhang briefly looked interested but he folded as did everyone else, Bot showing the [Ah] as he did so. -- NW

2pm: Win with the ace high
The PokerStars Blog arrived at table 35 to see Daniel Charlton giving Robert Malvasi a quizzical look. Perhaps he liked his face, or perhaps it was because Malvasi had bet 3,000 on the river of a [Jc][Tc][2h][4d][9h] board.
Charlton then turned his attention back to the board itself and began working through the hand in his head, he eventually settled on calling and Malvasi showed [Ac][Kc], he'd pipped Charlton as he had looked him up with [Ad][Qd]. "That was the one I didn't think you had," said Charlton. -- NW

1:50pm: Strong start for Cai
Haoran Cai just won a chunky pot in a hand against Liangsheng Lin. The PokerStars Blog only caught the river action but on a complete board of [Qs][Jh][Qh][4h][Td] Cai bet 3,500 into a pot of 8,300 and Lin looked him up. Cai rolled over [Ah[8h] and Lin looked back at his cards before mucking. -- NW

1:40pm: Not how you start, but how you finish
Poker isn't just about being dealt a great starting hand, as Richard Blacklock just proved. With 1,025 in the middle, Blacklock called a bet of 450 from Adam Owen after a [2d][10h][7h] flop. The turn was the [6d], which saw another bet from Owen, this time of 1,025. After making the call, the river was a seemingly insignificant [4s]. This time Owen slowed down, and checked over to Blacklock who put out two yellow chips and one red for 2,500. Owen made the call and saw the bad news - Blacklock showed his [6h][4d] for runner runner two pair and the winning hand, as Owen mucked. The float on the flop turned out very well indeed. --JS

1:35pm: From the high roller to the main event
Chris Brammer has been knocked out of the High Roller and has immediately decided to hop into the Main Event. He's been seated at the same table as Ben Vinson. The latter played the High Roller yesterday but failed to make Day 2 another player who that applies to is Simon Higgins and he too is playing the Main Event today. -- NW

Blinds up: 100/200 ante 25

1:25pm: One out
We're up to 76 entries in the Main Event but only 75 players are left in, as Richard Norfolk is the first player to have been eliminated today. -- NW

1:15pm: Some more familiar faces
Players are continuing to take their seats for Day 1B, including some familiar faces from the UK poker scene. Leo McClean, who had his breakout tournament at EPT London in October 2013 where he finished third for £249,850, has pulled up a pew at table 35 alongside one of the UK's best online tournament players, Rhys Jones. Playing under the screen name 'floppinhel', Jones has amassed more than $1.7million in PokerStars tournament winnings, most recently taking down the Bigger $162, $160K Gtd at the end of March for $29,952. We'll keep an eye out and see if the pair tangle in any pots throughout the day. --JS

1:05pm: High Roller resumes
Day 2 of the High Roller has just started. A total of 21 players returned, the top seven will get paid and the winner will collect £46,800. Felix Stephensen is the current chip leader, with Ivan Luca, Rapinder Cheema and Ludovic Geilich also well placed. We'll be providing occasional updates on this as the day progresses. Below though is the start of day seat draw.

12:50pm: Sly takes a big pot
Chris Sly is playing his second Day 1, he busted out in a huge coin flip late on Day 1A on Sunday and is back for more today. He's off to a great start, winning a big pot against Richard Jones. It was actually Jones who was first to enter the pot, raising to 325 from under-the-gun, Chin Chai Koh called from middle position, Sly then three-bet to 800 and both players called.

So the pot was already big by the time the [8c][9s][2s] flop hit the felt, it checked to Sly, he bet 1,000 and Jones was the only caller. The [6d] fell on the turn, Sly bet 3,100 and Jones called again. The [9d] completed the board, Sly bet 5,000 into a pot of 12,250 and Jones grimaced a little before folding his hand. -- NW

12:40pm: Everyone loves a chop pot
The early levels of tournaments are normally rather timid affairs - nobody wants to bust after just half an hour of play, after all. But a big pot was brewing on Day 1B between Martin Hughes and Thomas Busst which saw them both putting more than a fifth of their stacks in the middle.

We caught up the action after the river, with the board showing [kh][2s][jh][2c][2h]. Any pair would give the player a full house, whilst the case deuce would provide a winning hand of quads. With an already healthy amount of yellow 1,000 chips in the middle, Hughes threw out a blue 5,000 chip. Did he have quads? Busst didn't think so, and made a pretty quick call. Hughes turned over [ks][js] for deuces full of kings - his flopped two pair having turned into a boat on the river. Busst let out a smile and turned over his hand - [kc][jd]. The pot would need to be split equally between the two players, and you know what they say... --JS

12:20pm: Hawkins versus Deadman
Two of the biggest names in the field are sat side by side at table 21 and it didn't take too long for Keith Hawkins and Simon Deadman to clash in a pot.

There was 300 in the pot by the time they reached the turn of a [2d][Ts][Ah][Ks] board. Hawkins led out for 150 from the small blind, Deadman raised to 500 from the big, Niall Mcaleer folded the button and Hawkins flicked in the extra.
The [4h] completed the board and both players opted to check, Hawkins, who has of course got a ton of poker experience, knew he had the winner and showed [As][6c] to take the pot.

Both Hawkins (23rd) and Deadman (16th) went deep in the Irish Open earlier this month but despite all their live success both are still looking for their first UKIPT final table. Hawkins has a catalogue of deep runs with 21st, 23rd and 37th place finishes whilst Deadman has previously finished 20th, 32nd and 34th in UKIPT Main Events.

12pm: Back for more on Day 1B
If Day 1A on Sunday felt more like an auxiliary Day 1 then that's because it was. It was a chance for players who can't get time off work during the week to be able to play a UKIPT Main Event without having to take a single day off work. Forty players took up that opportunity, but we're expecting far more to show up today for the second of four starting flights in this £1,000,000 GTD Main Event.

The structure for today will, of course, be exactly the same as Sunday, 10 levels each of which is 45 minutes in length. Players will take a break after every three levels and begin with 25,000 in chips. Should the noon start time prove a little early then late risers can enter the fray until the start of the seventh level.

Players are being called to their seats and action should be under way shortly.

UKIPT5 Nottingham: Level 7-10 updates (blinds 600/1,200 ante 200)

8:35pm Done for the day
That's all folks from Day 1B of the £1,000,000 Guaranteed Main Event, a wrap of the day's play is on the way. -- NW

8:20pm Power poker
Kuljinder Sidhu had fired out 4,500 after the [7d] river completed a [ac][3d][ts][7d] board, before Rhys Jones turned up the aggression with a raise to 18,500. Sidhu asked how much Jones had left before shoving his entire stack in the middle. The all in was not called, and Sidhu raked in a nice pot at the end of the day. He then showed an intriguing [ks] to the table. --JS

8:10pm: Big pot for Lightbourne
There was a huge pot building over at table 22, and we got there in time to work out there was more than 50,000 in the middle after the completion of the [ah][jc][5c][qc][3d] board. Former chipleader Du Wang checked over to Iaron Lightbourne who had the button. It took Lightbourne some careful consideration when thinking of how to act, but he eventually checked behind, turning over [th][kc] for a straight. Wang mucked his hand, which obviously did not contain the two clubs Lightbourne was worried about. --JS

7:53pm: The tables have turned
We're now in the last level of the day and yet another stacked table has broken, scattering talent around the room. Simon Higgins rejoins his tablemates from earlier in the day, Jack Salter and Christopher Brammer, as well as Ben Dobson. Meanwhile, Jake Cody and Leo McClean now sit with the chipleader at the break, Max Ladbrooke. --JS

7:50pm: High Roller chip counts
There are still five players left in the High Roller. Blinds are about to go to 3,000/6,000 ante 1,000 and this is how they stack up:

Tom Hall, 160,000
Thiago Nishijima, 285,000
Matas Cimbolas, 470,000
Ivan Luca, 220,000
Mitch Johnson, 64,000

Blinds up: 600/1,200 ante 100

7:45pm: Hicks and Chattaway sent home
Nick Hicks and Billy Chattaway are two of the well known players who've been knocked out during level nine, they may well be back tomorrow though. As for today, just 61 players remain. -- NW

7:40pm: Cody and Higgins tangle
It didn't take long for Simon Higgins to make his presence felt at his new...felt. Jake Cody had put out a bet of 4,500 with the board reading [4s][js][7h][qc][6s]. Higgins raised it up to what looked like around 25,000 and Cody made the call before mucking, his holding obviously not beating the [qs][ts] flush of Higgins. --JS

7:30pm: The bluff gets through
After Krenar Hamiti bet 6,500 on a [tc][3h][2d][7d][jd] board, there was only one move for Philippe Souki - shove all in. His 20,000-odd stack had enough fold equity to get Hamiti to lay down what was clearly the best hand, as Souki flashed both a smile and [ac][8c] for total air. --JS

7:20pm: Counts from the break
Max Ladbrooke has usurped Du Wang at the top of the chip counts whilst two Simon's - Higgins and Deadman - are both handily placed.

Max Ladbrooke, United Kingdom, 148,000
Du Wang, United Kingdom, 130,000
Simon Higgins, United Kingdom, 110,000
Eirimas Livonas, Lithuania, 101,000

Ben Jackson, United Kingdom, 83,000
Keith Hawkins, United Kingdom, 73,000
Daniel Charlton, United Kingdom, 68,000
Jake Cody, United Kingdom, Team PokerStars Pro, 67,000
Kuljinder Sidhu, United Kingdom, 54,000
Iaaron Lightbourne, United Kingdom, 51,300
Leo McClean, United Kingdom, 48,000
Richard Kellett, United Kingdom, 46,000

Max Ladbrooke leads

Craig McCorkell, United Kingdom, 38,000
Nick Hicks, United Kingdom, 38,000
Richard Blacklock, United Kingdom, 33,000
Stuart Fox, United Kingdom, 31,500
Rhys Jones, United Kingdom, 31,000
Phillipe Souki, United Kingdom, 28,800
Billy Chattaway, United Kingdom, 28,600
Jack Salter, United Kingdom, 26,000
Chris Brammer, United Kingdom, 23,000
Keith Johnson, United Kingdom, 21,500
Yucel Eminoglu, United Kingdom, 16,400
Chris Sly, United Kingdom, 14,000
Ben Vinson, United Kingdom, 11,100

7:10pm: Deadman alive and well
We haven't heard too much from Simon Deadman today, but towards the end of the day's play we found him involved in a large pot with Eirimas Livonas. The board read [5c][jc][th][7h][kd] and Livonas had bet 11,500. Deadman raised it up to approximately 30,000, which didn't seem to please his opponent. After some deliberation, Livonas made the call and both players turned over queen and nine for the second nut straight. --JS

7pm: From one ridiculous table to another
One of the most stacked tables in the room has now broken. Christopher Brammer and Jack Salter have joined Ben Dobson's table, while Simon Higgins is butting heads with Jake Cody, Leo McClean and Rhys Jones. --JS

Blinds up: 500/1,000 ante 100

6:47pm: Break time
The players are now on their final break of the day, they'll return to play two more levels before play ends for the day. -- NW

6:45pm: No gold for Silver
Max Silver has just busted and made a swift exit from Dusk Till Dawn. After raising to 4,000 on the button and with 3,200 in the middle already, Simon Higgins made a big raise to 16,000. Silver then shoved over the top and was snap called by Higgins. It was [JH][kd] for Silver and a dominating [AH][kh] for Higgins. The [ac][qc][6s][5d][4d] board was no help for Silver. --JS

6:40pm: Cody doubles Laio
On a [4c][9c][2d] flop, Jake Cody put out a bet of 3,500. Zhung Ming Laio made the call, not leaving himself much behind. The turn was the [6h] and Cody bet enough to put Laio all in. He made the call and his [3d][9d] was trailing Cody's [7c][9s]. However, the river was the [3s] and Laio managed to double up. --JS

6:40pm: Five alive
He came back with the chip lead today but Felix Stephensen has just been eliminated in sixth place in the High Roller, that's good for £9,660.

Five left. -- NW

6:35pm: Wang is number one
Du Wang has a massive chip lead over the rest of the field as he's sitting on a stack of 180,000. Little is known about him, indeed he only has $1,854 in lifetime earnings. -- NW

Ukipt5_nottingham_main_event_day1b_du_wang.jpg

Wang leads the way

6:25pm: Clock calling controversy
The was a big pile of chips already in the middle of the table by the time Max Ladbrooke set Tony Milan all-in on the river of a [6s][Tc][3s][5c][Js] board. The latter had about 25,000 behind and the pot was already around 75,000 - including Ladbrooke's river bet - Milan took his time, so much so that Craig McCorkell called the clock.

The floor was summoned and they decided that Milan had not had enough time yet to make decision. He didn't take much longer though as finally he elected to call. Ladbrooke showed [As][9s] for the nuts and scooped a huge pot to climb to 125,000. "I had aces," said Milan. There was no animosity at all and he shook hands with Ladbrooke before leaving the table.

After he'd gone the clock calling conversation continued. "I was watching the clock, he'd had three and half minutes already, plus he then gets another minute," said McCorkell. "We're on a 45 minute clock, you can't take 10% of a level on one decision on one street," he added. Khoa Nguyen backed him up saying. "He only had about half pot back too." -- NW

6:10pm: Brammer doubles, Cody moves
Christopher Brammer may be sat on the 'pretty ridiculous table' we mentioned earlier, but that hasn't stopped him from doubling up. Brammer, an elite player both live and online with over $3million in online earnings on PokerStars, doubled through Max Silver when his [8h][9s] proved to be the best on a [3h][qs][9c][6d][9d] board. Brammer is now sitting with around 30,000.

Meanwhile, PokerStars Team Pro Jake Cody has switched tables, and now sits alongside Leo McClean and Rhys Jones. --JS

Blinds up: 400/800 ante 100

5:55pm: Down to six in the High Roller
Bryn Kenney has been eliminated in seventh place, earning £7,800, Mitch Johnson the man who took him out. Kenney was gutted at just missing registration for the Main Event. "I'd have played today for sure," he said. As it is he plans to spend his time wisely. "I'm going to go get some Nandos and then head to the gym. You don't get much chance to exercise at these tournaments as they finish late and start early."

Ukipt5_nottingham_high_roller_bryn_kenney.jpg

Kenney - off to the gym

5:50pm: Slight setback for Higgins
We arrived at the action with the board reading [5s][9d][4h[7h][4c]. There was a large amount of chips already in the middle - around 25,000 - and Khadam Hussain had fired a bet of 16,000 over to Simon Higgins. After thinking about it, Higgins made the call, and Hussain turned over [ah][4d] for a rivered set. Higgins flashed pocket tens and suffers a slight blow to his stack. --JS

5:40pm: Gone
With late registration now closed the number of players left in the tournament today can now only go down. Just 94 players currently remain as: Thomas Horton, Liangsheng Lin, John Engledow, Michael Cleare, Thomas Postlethwaite, Niall Farrell, Stelian Alexandru Bot, Mark Karoullas, Daniel Clark, Chirac Thanki, David Denny, Sean Randall and David Dring have all been eliminated. -- NW

5:30pm: Jacks all round
Thinking he was under the gun, Max Silver went to fold his hand before realising he was in the big blind and putting out the 600. "I haven't even looked at my cards yet" he joked, as it was folded around to Christopher Brammer in mid-position who min-raised to 1,200. Emran Hussain in the small blind then three-bet to 5,000. After Silver threw his hand away for a second time, Brammer wasted no time shoving his entire stack into middle, and was quickly called by Hussain. However, any big-pot nerves were soon quashed as both players flipped over pocket jacks. A safe board ran out and the two players chopped it up. --JS

5:15pm: Chip counts
Late registration has now closed there were 115 entries and 13 re-entries taking the total for today to 128. This is how some of those in the field today stack up as level seven gets under way:

Du Wang, United Kingdom, 160,000

UKIPT5 Nottingham: Max Ladbrooke claims Day 1B chip lead

$
0

We ramped things up today at Dusk Till Dawn as the second of four starting days in the £1,000,000 Guaranteed Main Event attracted 128 runners, some two and a half times more than Day 1A on Sunday.

Those who elected to play today faced the same conditions as those who played Sunday of course and over 10 levels of play the field was reduced to just 48 as the rising blinds took their toll on this talented field. Amongst those who bagged chips no one could match Max Ladbrooke as he finished on 190,900. "I won a big flip with queens against ace-king," the 23 year-old politics student told the PokerStars Blog at the end of play, always nice to on the right side of that one. "I should be doing my dissertation," he added. However his tome on Animal Rights has been put on hold after he satellited into the Main Event for £200 in a live satellite last night. "I'm a terrible poker player, this is ten times bigger than the biggest event I've ever played," he stated matter of factly. He refreshing honesty continued when he said. "I'm definitely a fish on a heater."

Ukipt5_nottingham_main_event_day1b_max_ladbrooke.jpg

Good Lad

The Keele University students total was not only more than anyone else mustered today but more than Day 1A chip leader Sunil Pancholi accrued, he bagged 170,800 on Sunday. Others today who also caught some heat and came close to catching him include: Simon Higgins (151,800), Iaron Lightbourne (144,000) and Leo McClean (119,200). McClean had a great end to the day as he won a 70,000 chip pot on the very last hand of the day, "I opened with queens and a guy decided to rip into me with ace-jack," he told the PokerStars Blog.

Ukipt5_nottingham_main_event_day1b_leo_mcclean.jpg

McClean enjoyed a late surge

Team PokerStars Pro was represented by Jake Cody today, he shot out the blocks, climbing to 67,000 at one point but he lost a big pot to Simon Higgins in the penultimate level of the day to slip back to 14,000. He couldn't mount a comeback and busted in the last level of the day. Another Team Pro - Liv Boeree - was involved in a different tournament today, the £3,000 High Roller. Unfortunately she busted short of the money in that one, she didn't hop into the Main Event but plenty in the same boat as her did just that. At one point Max Silver, Ben Vinson, Jack Salter and Chris Brammer were sat in a row, a tough line-up for sure. But the Poker Gods care not for reputation and for once Silver had an off day on the felt and although Vinson, Salter and Brammer made it through none of them ran up a big stack.

Ukipt5_nottingham_main_event_day1b_jake_cody.jpg

Cody - out (for now)

Ukipt5_nottingham_main_event_day1b_chris_brammer.jpg

Brammer - in

Stacks of note, either by virtue of their size or the reputation of the player behind them, include:

Dave Maddock - 104,400
Robin Fisher - 99,400
Eirimas Livonas - 94,500
Lee Taylor - 93,900
Philippe Souki - 91,900
Simon Deadman - 80,100
Richard Blacklock - 76,400
Kuljinder Sidhu - 75,800
Daniel Charlton - 72,100
Richard Kellett - 71,300
Yucel Eminoglu - 63,300
Christopher Brammer - 59,000
Ben Jackson - 49,700
Rhys Jones - 48,000
Chris Sly - 46,700
Ben Vinson - 24,300
Jack Salter - 18,000

Ukipt5_nottingham_main_event_day1b_simon_deadman.jpg

Deadman - very much alive

A combined list of Day 1 survivors can be seen here but you won't find the names of Keith Hawkins, Nick Hicks, Billy Chattaway, Keith Johnson, Ludovic Geilich, Jonathan Kalmar, Niall Farrell or Alex Goulder amongst them as they all fell by the wayside during today's play. They may of course be back tomorrow, the PokerStars Blog will definitely be here as we do it all again when Day 1C gets under way at noon. You can catch up with all today's action by clicking here or here, but for now so long, we'll see you tomorrow.

UKIPT5 Nottingham Day 1C: Level 1-6 updates (250/500 ante 50)

$
0
0

5pm: Second break
Players have gone on a break before we move into level 7. You'll find those updates in a new post here. --JS

4:58pm: Tough table is terminated
All good things must come to an end. The talent-filled table we've been covering throughout the past few levels - which featured Charlie Combes, Paul Van Nunes, Ian Gascoigne, Mark MacDonnell and Chris Dowling - was broken just before the break, but not without some casualties. Both Charlie Combes and Callum Mccuaig busted in quick succession. --JS

4:35pm: Hutchinson's house blows down
Dean Hutchison just lost a huge pot against Dean Smith, one which means Smith is now the chip leader with around 95,000.
We arrived as the pot was being pushed to Smith, his [Th][Ts] was clearly visible on the table as was a complete board of [5h][Qc][4s][Qs][Tc]. "Did you have a queen?" asked Smith as Hutchison prepared to depart. "No, a house, pocket fives," replied Hutchison. So a nasty river for the UKIPT4 Edinburgh winner, he's may yet be back for another shot today as late registration is open until the start of level seven. -- NW

4:30pm: Gudger gone
Eleanor Gudger had an eventful day to say the least. Down to 16,000 early on she recovered to 28,000 only to then lose a big pot when her opponent hit a gutshot straight. That left her with 1,500 and there was no epic spin up.

4:20pm: The names keep coming
The field grows ever bigger and Matas Cimbolas, who finished runner-up in the High Roller yesterday, and Danish wizard Morten Mortensen are both now playing this tournament. As are Jake Cody, Ben Dobson, Padraig O'Neil, Jack Ellwood, Fraser Macintyre, Craig McCorkell and Felix Stephensen. -- NW

Ukipt5_nottingham_main_event_day1c_morten_mortensen.jpg

The dangerous Dane, Morten Mortensen

Blinds up: 250/500, ante 50

4:10pm: No time to waste
We saw a scattering of large chips over at one table so decided to drop in on the action. On a [6c][9c][4h] flop, Alan Gold put out a bet of 3,300 which was called by Jack Allen. However, Darren Delahunty was in no mood for calling and raised it up to an even 10,000. The initial raiser let it go, but not after asking both Allen and Delahunty how much they had behind. Allen made the call and we went to a [6h] turn. Delahunty insta-shoved which got a quick fold from the now short-stacked Allen. The victor showed the table his [9h][9s] for a full house and quickly scooped up the pot. --JS

4:05pm: Fast start for Brown
Irish Pro Rory Brown, came here by boat and he might need a bigger one if he continues accumulating chips at the rate he is.

3:55pm: Bryn Kenney doin' work
After busting the High Roller late in the day yesterday, Bryn Kenney was all up for hopping straight into the main event, however he'd narrowly missed the end of registration. The American is back today, though, and is getting to work. He currently sits with 33,000. --JS

3:50pm: Cody loads up more bullets
Team PokerStars Pro Jake Cody played the Main Event yesterday but busted out near the end of the day. He's indicated he's playing again today although he's not currently seated.

3:45pm: Big fold from Hall
We joined the action on the turn of a [7h][Tc][Ad][6d] board to see Tom Hall betting 2,350 (around half pot), his opponent in the hand was Tim Chung and he slid out a raise, making it 7,050 in total. Hall took a look back at his cards and then let them go. "That was a huge fold," said Hall smiling. "Two pair, ace-seven," he added although he might have been bluffing! Hall drops to 23,700 whilst Chung has around 39,000.

Rory Brown is also at the table and the Irishman is off to a great start as he's up to 73,000. --NW

3:40pm: Ridiculous table gets more ridiculous
Earlier we zeroed in on table 41 as a particularly tough table (see 2:55pm post) and it's now got even more ridiculous as two-time SCOOP winner Charlie Combes has joined the table. --NW

Blinds up: 200/400, ante 50

3:30pm: A consistent story
Carl Falconer raised from early position to 800, which was called by Dahe Liu and Tom Middleton. The trio saw a flop of [3s][4s][6d] and Falconer continued, this time for 2,000. Liu made the call and Middleton let it go. The turn was the [3d], pairing the board. The bet this time was 3,600 from Falconer, and Liu wasn't going anywhere, making the quick call. The [th] fell on the river and Falconer remained consistent with his story, leading for 7,500. Liu only had 8,200 behind, so the bet was essentially for his tournament life. He opted to shove instead of flat call and Falconer looked him up for just 700 more. Liu's pocket eights were good as Falconer mucked. --JS

3:15pm: Exits
The list of exits is now 14 long with John Cleverly-james, Jason Barton, Max Winberg, Ivan Sebeledi, David Williams and Gerard Bucke among those who've been eliminated. -- NW

2:55pm: Fashionably late
As we enter level 4 Players are continuing to arrive and take their seats. We're now up to 239 runners, and it's usually the regulars on the poker circuit who feel the most comfortable skipping early levels, and that's been the case today. However, arriving fashionably late also means you're almost guaranteed to be sitting with some pretty tough competition.

One such table of established pros has emerged. Here's how it stacks up:

1 Benjamin Heath
2 Thomas Somerville
3 Paul Nunes
4 Callum Mccuaig
5 Zaheeb Zeb
6 Ian Gascoigne
7 Marc MacDonnell
8 Chris Dowling
9 Thomas Dunwoodie

In the nine seats we have an Estrellas Poker Tour second place finisher (Nunes, €204,589), a Sunday Million winner (Heath, chopped for $168,000 in March), a three-time UKIPT final tablist (Dowling), a regular on the UKIPT and EPT circuits (Dunwoodie), an online whiz with more than $900,000 in tournament winnings (MacDonnell), and a Dusk Till Dawn regular with more than $190,000 in live tournament earnings (Gascoigne). --JS

At the other end of the scale Ryan Spittles (6,975) and Tom Middleton (16,400) have some work to do. We'll be updating the chip count page throughout the day. -- NW

2:25pm: First break of the day
Players in the main event are now on break, check back for some of the room's notable chip stacks shortly. --JS

2:20pm: No rest for Deadman
Despite finishing Day 1B with a healthy 80,100 stack, Simon Deadman is back at Dusk Till Dawn grinding a 5-seat guaranteed satellite into the main event. --JS

2:15pm: Exits
A few more players have already been less potless as Daniel Rohrbasser, Robert White, Michael Macleod, Bobbie Brummitt and UKIPT regular Asif Warris have all been eliminated. The field is up to 230 now. -- NW

2:00pm: A river runs through it
There seem to be difficult river decisions taking place wherever you turn in Dusk Till Dawn today. Mitchell Johnson was putting a lot of pressure on Stephen Okeeffe, firing out a 12,700 bet on a [4c][6c][kd][5h][9d] board. There was already around 16,000 in the middle, and despite asking Johnson how much he had behind, Okeeffe let go of his hand, giving the chunky pot to his opponent. Meanwhile on a different table, Ivan Iliev called the clock on Lucas Blanco Oliver - sat to his left - as he took his time to fold to Iliev's 5,000 river bet.

Of course, what's a cruel river for one person is a great one for another. Dara Davey bet 2,200 on fifth street with the board reading [7d][4h][6c][qh][7c], and got a call from Guy Taylor. However, when Davey flipped over his pocket aces, he saw that Taylor's [ks][7s] had got there at the end. --JS

1:50pm: Follow the action
There was double punishment for Paul Hardy as not only did he lose that hand but due to acting out of turn on fourth street he also received a two hand penalty.

There were three active players still in the pot on the turn of a [6c][Js][5h][3s] board, Daniel Tang bet 2,300, action was on Richard Jones, but Hardy called out of turn and after the floor was called to explain the situation, Jones too called.
So there was now around 9,500 in the pot as the [8c] rolled off on the river, Tang checked, Jones bet 4,800, Hardy made a quick call and Tang through his hands up in the air. He leant back, took a sip of water and then folded the [Jc] face-up. It was a good fold as Hardy showed [8s][6c] which was behind to the [5c][5d] on Jones. -- NW

1:40pm: Silence for a legend
Today is a sad day in the poker world as Dave 'Devilfish' Ulliott, who passed away last week after a short battle with cancer, is laid to rest. His funeral takes place in Hull today and as a mark of respect a minutes silence was just held at Dusk Till Dawn. Not only was Devilfish a big supporter of Dusk Till Dawn and friends with many who frequent the venue, he was undoubtedly a poker legend and not only in the UK.

Fittingly at the end of the minute spontaneous applause broke out as the players here showed their appreciation for a man who blaazed a trail for UK poker and who, it's no stretch to say, is responsible for getting more players in the UK interested in poker than any other player. He will be sorely missed, but never forgotten. -- NW

RIP Dave 'Devilfish' Ulliott

1:35pm: Over 200
There are 208 entrants in the Main Event today and everyone's ROI% has gone down a notch as some very capable players have arrived fashionably late. EPT10 Barcelona winner Tom Middleton is now seated as is Max Silver. The UKIPT1 Dublin champion has gone on to far bigger and better things since he won that title in September 2010. At the time it was only his second live cash, and by far his biggest score, it now sits eighth on the list. UKIPT4 Galway Champion and WCOOP leader board winner Alan 'Mr Negreanu' Gold is also in the field. -- NW

Blinds up: 100/200 ante 25

1:25pm: A disciplined fold
It can be hard to release pocket aces and pocket kings, especially on unpaired boards, but we just caught Jonathan Wong making a very disciplined fold. On a [6c][9s][3c] flop, David Lloyd made a 5,000 bet which Wong called (the pot was already substantial by the time we arrived). The turn was [qc], putting three clubs out there. Wong thought hard for a few minutes, asking Lloyd "Are you going to show me if I pass?", but Lloyd stared stoically. Eventually he passed, turning over [ks][kd] for an overpair to the board. Was he right? Lloyd assured him, saying "You were behind". Having final tabled EPT Prague, finishing third for €410,190 in December, we're sure this won't be the only tough, but correct, decision Wong will make today. --JS

Did Wong make the right fold?

1:20pm: Details on the Ian Simpson exit
"No I don't want to talk about it," said Ian Simpson with a trademark grin, he was only joking of course and was happy to tell us about his early exit today.

After Kevin Allen had opened the button to 300, Simpson three-bet pocket aces from the small blind to 900 and Allen made the call. On the [Kx][8x][7x] flop Simpson c-bet. "If he's got a king here I'm just going to value bet all three streets," he explained. Allen called and another eight rolled off on the turn. "I bet 3,500 and he raised to 9,000, has he really got an eight?" Simpson continued. "So I called and another eight came on the river. So now if he's got a king he's going to call, so I moved all in and he called. He had quads."

Allen had [8x][6x] to be precise and gave his own take on the hand. "It's such a sick run out for his hand, he's value shoving the river there." -- NW

1:10pm: ThEcLaiMEer starts strong
We just caught one of the UK's best online players Rich 'ThEcLaiMEer' Trigg take down a nice pot early. With two players calling the 450 pre-flop raise from Jack Allen, Trigg decided to bump up the price of poker to 2,800. Only Thi My Van Nguyen in the small blind made the call, and the two saw a flop of [jc][2h][4d]. One check from Nguyen and a 3,000 bet was all it took for Trigg to take it down. --JS

1pm: No respect
There was a time when, so the saying went, 'under-the-gun is the new button,' that was some years ago however although perhaps the memo is yet to reach table 14. When Karen Arthur raised to 450 from under-the-gun she picked up five callers, including both blinds. On the [4s][2h][5d] flop she c-bet 975 and couldn't shake off Alexander Kjellberg or Robert Moss.
Fourth street was the [9d], she slowed down and when Kjellberg bet 2,650 both Moss and Arthur folded. -- NW

Blinds up: 75/150

12:50pm: Simpson out then in again
Ian Simpson was the first player to bust today, but he's bought back in we'll try and track him down and get details on that one. And Mark Hawks is also out, Ivan Sebeledi looks to be the main beneficiary of that one as he's up over 40,000 already. -- NW

12:40pm: Ivan Luca's remarkable run continues
Long after the Main Event had wrapped up last night the first champion of UKIPT5 Nottingham was crowned as Ivan Luca won the £3,000 UKIPT5 Nottingham High Roller after a marathon heads-up battle against Matas Cimbolas.

Luca outlasted a field of 51 to claim the title, and £46,800, to continue the amazing run he's been on since December and his winnings for 2015 already stand at $773,116. At the start of Day 2 just 21 players returned, they reached a final table fairly swiftly and when Ludovic Geilich bubbled in eighth place the other seven were all in the money. The full payouts are as below:

1. Ivan Luca - £46,800
2. Matas Cimbolas - £33,750
3. Thiago Nishijima - £21,500
4. Tom Hall - £16,300
5. Mitch Johnson - £12,600
6. Felix Stephensen - £9,660
7. Bryn Kenney - £7,800

12:40pm: Who's here?
As expected the number of entries has shot up since play started with 177 players now in their seats. Some of the well-known players who've elected to play today include: Sergio Aido, Jeff Kimber, Rich Trigg, Deborah Worley-Roberts, Jon Wong, Dean Lyall, Jonathan Crute, Paul McTaggart, Neil Raine and Ryan Spittles. We'll be tracking the names, notables and big stacks here, throughout the day. -- NW

12:30pm: Chips are flying
Despite it being just 30 minutes into the first level, we've already noticed some pretty large pots. One such hand involved Eleanor Gudger, who three-bet Lee Webb's 3x open from the small blind to 950 pre-flop. Webb made the call and we saw a board of [qh][4s][5s]. Gudger continued for the same 950 amount, and Webb wasn't budging. The turn was the [Td], which saw play slow down as it was checked around. The river brought the [8h] and Gudger tossed out two yellow 1,000 chips, but Webb decided to amp things up and raised to 7,000 - 70 big blinds at this first level. Gudger called and saw the bad news - Webb's [8s][8d] had become a set on the river, and she mucked her hand. Still, it's early in the day and there's plenty of play to come. --JS

12:10pm: Action is under way
Cards are now in the air here in Nottingham. --NW

11:55am: C stands for crowded
There's a noticeably busier feel to Dusk Till Dawn as we approach the start of the third of four starting flights in the £1,000,000 GTD UKIPT5 Nottingham Main Event. The bar area is busier, there's more bustle ahead of the hustle and everything feels nicely set up for an exciting day of poker.

The board is currently showing that there are 104 players registered to play today with Kevin Allen, Paul Zimbler, Ryan Spittles, Jon Wong and Dean Hutchison among them. With late registration open until the start of level seven that number could easily double before then.

The players have been called to their seats and action should be under way shortly.

8:45pm: That's Day 1C in the bag
Play has ended, chips have been bagged, and many players are now enjoying a well-earned pint after ten levels of play. 109 players have survived to make it through to Day 2 on Saturday - a full round up of today's action will be up on the blog shortly. --JS

8:20pm: Three hands remain
The dealers have been told there are three hands of play left on Day 1C. As it stands there are 115 players remaining, and we've recently lost former chipleader and High Roller champ Ivan Luca, as well as Terry Jordon, Jack Allen and Andrew Hulme. -- JS

Ukipt5_nottingham_main_event_day1c_ivan_luca.jpg

You can't win them all Ivan!

8:00pm: Nice end to the day
It's always nice to take down a big pot as the end draws to a close, and Jonee Stanton is now a player who knows that well. Foyzul Hussein opened the action to 2,000 and Stanton three-bet to 5,000 on the button, which was called. The flop, [4s][3h][tc], caused Hussein to take the lead and bet 8,000 out of position, which Stanton called. The [7d] on the turn put a few straight draws out there, and Hussein continued to lead - this time for 13,500. A call took us to a river, which was the [8c]. Hussein slowed down and it was checked around. Stanton's [ac][7c] had bested Hussein's [as][kd] after a float on the flop - and the man on the button took it down. --JS

7:50pm: Local favourite going strong
Dusk Till Dawn regular Ian Gascoigne has a very healthy chip stack after taking down a bloated pre-flop pot. We caught the action as Simeon Sundelius had four-bet to 20,500. Gascoigne moved all in for 118,000 - about 30,000 more than Sundelius held - and got his opponent to fold begrudgingly. Sundelius was certainly happy when Gascoigne flashed his pocket aces, though; so much so that he wiped his brow and let out a 'phew!' with relief. Gascoigne now sits with approximately 150,000. --JS

Blinds up: 600/1,200 ante 200

7:30pm: Battle of the (undetermined) bluffers
Matas Cimbolas, who finished runner-up in last night's High Roller final table for a nice £33,750 pay-day, is at it again today in the main event. However, a hand we saw suggested he's not necessarily having a smooth ride.

The flop was [kc][js][6c], and the Lithuanian faced a bet of 2,500 from Andrew Mapp. He decided a raise was in order and bumped it up to 10,500. "Why so much?" asked Mapp, before Cimbolas spread and the pot and replied "I don't think it's too much!"

The raise was called, but the [6s] turn was checked around. When the [8d] river fell, Mapp fired out for an even 12,000 - causing Cimbolas to squirm slightly and think for several minutes, whilst going through his thought process out loud. He eventually folded and begged Mapp to "show the bluff!" to which Mapp replied "Show me YOUR bluff!" - touché, sir. --JS

7:20pm: The numbers are in
The final total of players for today has just been handed to us and there were 265 entries and 26 re-entries for a total field of 291. As it stands, just 141 players remain. Among those who've been eliminated recently and will have to try tomorrow are: Osman Mustanoglu, Dara Davey, Benjamin Heath, Jonathan Crute, Richard Trigg and Alan Gold. -- NW

7:10pm: Chip leaders
As level nine gets under way these are the players who are contesting the chip lead. Amazingly Ivan Luca is running up yet another stack here at Dusk Till Dawn. He won the High Roller yesterday and is now going to town on the Main Event.

Ivan Luca, 149,000
John Keown, 146,000
Chris Brice, 138,000

6:50pm: Final break of the day
Players have gone on their last break of Day 1C. We'll be back with more updates shortly. --JS

6:45pm: No luck at the races for Cody
Jake Cody has just busted out of the UKIPT Nottingham main event. It was Brendan Olidi's small blind shove and Cody's quick call from the big blind which put the PokerStars Team Pro at risk. Jake had [ah][kh] but was racing against Olidi's [th][tc], and the flop brought no help as it ran out [5c][jd][6h]. The [3s] on the turn changed nothing, and Cody needed help on the river. It didn't come - the [7h] meant it was game over for Jake and his 15,000 stack slid over to Olidi. Good game

Cody's decision in this hand was pretty automatic but he faced some tougher ones at EPT11 London back in October. If you're in the UK you can watch Cody put to the test on Channel 4 at 00.30 BST and thanks to our new Play Along App you can see if you would've made the same choices as the triple-crown winner. --JS

Ukipt5_nottingham_main_event_day1b_jake_cody.jpg

Jake Cody eliminated

6:40pm: The get it in bad grimace
We arrived at Jake Cody's table to see Lee Webb betting 7,000 on a [9c][4d][7h] flop, Ross Greig was his lone opponent in the hand and after a brief dwell he made the call. No sooner had the [Jd] hit the turn then Webb moved all-in for 18,300 and Greig snap called. Webb grimaced, he knew he was in bad shape and so it proved as he held [Tc][Ts] whilst Greig had [9h][7h]. He had some counterfeit outs as well as direct outs but the [2d] river didn't fit in either category and he was on his way. -- NW

6:30pm: Game over for Geilich
For a brief time Tom Middleton and Ludovic Geilich were tablemates, and both were short-stacked, but ultimately one would fall at the other's hand. A pre-flop raising war resulted in Geilich's [as][5h] up against Middy's dominating [ad][jd]. It was Ludo who faced his demise, and the [qd][th][9h][jc][6h] board sealed his fate. Middleton is now back up to a starting stack of 25,000. --JS

6:20pm: Silver gets unlucky
Max Silver has had more good days than bad on the UKIPT but today wasn't one of them as he just got very unlucky to bust. Craig McCorkell, Nick Hicks, Morten Mortensen and Ben Jenkins are also out. -- NW

6:10pm: No need to look for action
The very next hand after Ivan Luca doubled up (see the 5:50pm post below), we saw a hand at the same table showing just how crazy poker can be sometimes. Having just joined the table, and with some action in front of him, David Jones shoved his short 8,500 stack and found a caller in the man to the his left, Kestutis Kristapaitis. However, when the two turned their hands over, there was only one you'd expect to see in a pre-flop all-in showdown.

Jones had [9h][9c], a respectable hand indeed, but Kristapaitis had called with the [4c][5c]. Jones was far in the lead before a painful flop of [4h][as][5h] gave Kristapaitis two pair. The [4s] turn simply kicked Jones when he was down, and he was down to needing one of the two remaining nines on the river (assuming nobody had folded one already). But there it was - out of nowehere - a miracle [9d] on the river. Justice? Maybe. Unexpected? Definitely. Jones now sits with 21,600. --JS

Blinds up: 400/800 ante 100

6:05pm: Famous fallers
We're down to 192 runners on Day 1C of the Main Event but with late registration now closed: Nick Hicks, Rumit Somaiya, Paul McTaggart, Kelly Saxby, Robert Tinnion, Mark Lane, Niall Farrell and Thiago Nishijima will all have to try tomorrow if they want to win UKIPT5 Nottingham. -- NW

5:50pm: High Roller champ doubles
After winning the High Roller last night for £46,800, Ivan Luca has just doubled his stack up to 46,700. The Argentine will be hoping for another deep run in the main event to cap off an already successful stay in Nottingham. --JS

5:30pm: Unlucky for Johnson
Paul Nunes has instantly made presence felt at his new table, albeit with the help of lady luck. Nunes and Mitchell Johnson found themselves all-in pre-flop, [As][qs] against Johnson's [ah][kh]. Nunes' hand was dominated, but only until the turn when the [qc] fell, putting him in front. With no help on the river, it was all she wrote for Mitchell Johnson, who had already used his re-buy option. Good game Mitch - on to the next one. --JS

5:20pm: Registration closes, action continues
We're over the halfway mark on Day 1C and the start of level seven marks the end of registration. The tournament board is showing that we had 261 entries and 24 re-entries for a total of 285 players today. We'll confirm that soon but around 205 of those players are still in. However, Jack Ellwood, David Mcconachie, Mathew Perry, Neil Raine, Ian Simpson, Martyn Frey, Adam Prickett and Chris Ferguson are all out. -- NW

UKIPT5 Nottingham: Alex Harriman climbs highest; leads after Day 1C

$
0
0

You could tell within 10 seconds of stepping inside the confines of Dusk Till Dawn that today was going to be a busy day. Some 30 minutes before play began the place was already bustling with expectant poker players eager to take their shot at the £1,000,000 guaranteed UKIPT5 Nottingham Main Event.

Some were back for the second (or third) bullet but many more were entering the fray for the first time and by the time late registration slammed shut 291 players (265 uniques and 26 re-entries) had swelled the prize pool; add them to the 178 who played during the first two starting flights and you get 469. More than double that will be needed tomorrow to make the guarantee, but this is Dusk Til Dawn and the UKIPT and it's the surest bet of the week.

Ukipt5_nottingham_main_event_day1c_alex_harriman.jpg

Harriman finished top of the chip charts

Another safe bet is that the main problem Alex Harriman is going to face between now and Day 2 at noon on Saturday is ensuring he turns up in sufficient time to unbag and then stack all his chips. He topped the 109 survivors from Day 1C with a massive 205,900 in chips. What's more remarkable is that he was as low as 7,000 before spinning it up to 120,000 within 30 minutes. "I bluffed it off to be honest," the 24-year-old recruitment headhunter told the PokerStars Blog. His resurgent spin up was down to being on the right side of two confrontations with ace-king. In the first he bested them with pocket eights and in another he got there against pocket sevens. The Londoner has been playing poker for four years, but having only recently switched to tournaments this is his first Main Event. Only time will tell if today proves to be 'beginners' luck.

Ukipt5_nottingham_main_event_day1c_john_keown.jpg

John Keown is well set for Day 2

He may have accumulated the most but John Keown (155,800), David Urban (147,700) and Demetrios Nikolaidis (144,000) can give themselves a big pat on the back for a hard day's work well rewarded by an ample chip stack. "I flopped two sets and got paid both times," said Keown, a bookmaker from Northern Ireland, at the end of play. "The rest was ducking and diving," he added. The likes of Brendan Liddy (142,300) Chris Dowling (137,600) and Rory Brown (133,700) will also no doubt be pleased with their efforts over the first ten levels of this event

Ukipt5_nottingham_main_event_day1b_jake_cody.jpg

It was another frustrating day for Cody

For the second day running Team PokerStars Pro was represented by Jake Cody, the triple-crown winner had ran up a stack on Day 1B but busted shortly before the day ended. Today he didn't even get to accomplish the first part of that list before being dispatched from the tournament. A day spent grinding whilst waiting for a spot to double dragged on until finally one arrived. Ace-king in the big blind facing a small blind shove is about as auto-call as it gets. Cody duly called off his final 18 big blinds to put his tournament life at risk and saw he was racing against pocket tens. There was one over card to the tens amongst the community cards but it wasn't the one he needed.

He'll be back tomorrow though as will fellow Team Pro Liv Boeree. They'll be in good company as the likes of: Ivan Luca, Tom Hall, Ian Simpson, Ryan Spittles, Dara Davey, Ben Heath, Rick Trigg, Alan Gold, Fraser Macintyre, Ludovich Geilich, Chris Ferguson, Deborah Worley-Roberts, Kelly Saxby, Morten Mortensen, Nick Hicks, Paul McTaggart, Mitch Johnson, Niall Farrell, Charlie Combs, Dean Lyall, Jack Ellwood and Dean Hutchison will have to try again tomorrow if they want to take this tournament down.

UKIPT5 Nottingham Day 1D: Level 1-6 updates (250/500 ante 50)

5pm: Break time
That's the end of level six, players can still re-enter during the break but as soon as level seven starts late registration will close. You'll find updates from level seven (and beyond) in a new post shortly. -- NW

4:55pm: The luck of the Irish

4:50pm: Ainsworth out
Jude Ainsworth has busted and has just ten minutes to re-buy before the late registration period closes. On a flop of [6d][7d][kc], Nick Weaver raised to 2,500. The Irishman made it an even 10,000 to go and it didn't take long for him to get his remaining 15,000 in the middle too after Weaver shoved. Ainsworth's [6c][7c] gave him two pair, but he was far behind Weaver's set of kings. The [8d] turn and [9d] river gave Weaver a flush and that was that. Good game Jude. --JS

4:45pm: King clouted by kings!
Rob 'hippy' King is part of the poker media pack but he was playing the game he loves to write about today having satellite into this event for just $12.

He'd dropped to about 16,000 by the time his tournament defining pot took place. There was a limp in early position from Martin Frey, King then raised to 1,250 and action passed to UKIPT4 Isle of Man 2 runner-up Ciaran Heaney, he got out some raising chips but before he could act Sameer Singh threw out a four-bet.

The floor was called and it was ruled that if action changed then Singh could take his bet back but if it remained the same his bet it would remain. Heaney, somewhat surprisingly decided to raise to 2,850 and Singh decided to fold. Back on Frey he called and King then moved all-in, Heaney took little to no time in moving in over the top and Frey folded.

King: [9s][9d]
Heaney: [Kd][Kh]

The board ran [Jc][As][7c][Ks][6c] and King was out. "I'd been card dead for three hours and I'm happy with how I played," he told the PokerStars Blog. -- NW

4:30pm: All she wrote for Angell
We saw Brett Angell get up out of his seat and feared the worst. Angell had indeed busted, and kindly talked to the PokerStars Blog about how it happened.

"I limped under-the-gun with pocket kings; limping under the gun is something I'd done about five or six times today. Brandon Sheils made it 1,500 from the big blind, another player flats and I make it 4,200. Sheils then shoves all-in for 30,000 and I snap. He had ace queen and turned an ace." Unlucky Brett. Will he fire another bullet? There's still time. --JS

4:25pm: Hicklin making moves
As you'll have read below (4:10pm post), we arrived at Carl Froch's table to find an empty seat where 'The Cobra' once sat. We caught a fun hand whilst we were there though - and it never even got to a flop. Brett Angell limped under-the-gun, and Jacob Hicklin raised it up to 1,500. That wasn't enough for Brendan Sheils on the button, however, and he made it 2,900 to go. Angell folded and the action was back on Hicklin who fiddled with his chips for a few seconds and then laid out yet another raise to 7,500, which got a fold from Sheils. Hicklin showed the [3h], which got a few giggles from around the table. --JS

4:20pm: The clock is ticking
There's just one more level of late registration to go, so if you don't want to get locked out of this tournament you've got around 45 minutes to get yourself to Dusk Till Dawn.

So far today there have been 479 unique entries and 35 re-entries. -- NW

Blinds up: 250/500, ante 50

4:10pm: Carl Froch knocked out
That's not a sentence you hear very often but 'The Cobra' has been eliminated from this tournament. We didn't see the first hand but we're told he had ace-king against an opponent who rivered trip threes. -- NW

4pm: Not you again!
There's a strong Irish contingent in the field today including Mick Graydon and Jude Ainsworth. The two are sharing a hotel room at this tournament and wouldn't you know it they're sat side by side at the moment!

They're not the only talented players from the Emerald Isle in the field today. It's a welcome return to the tour for Jason Tompkins, he final tabled UKIPT3 Dublin but has been living in Australia until recently so UKIPT's were off the menu. He's in form too having won the SCOOP Low Main Event on PokerStars.fr earlier this week.

Tour regulars like Dara O'Kearney, David Lappin, Dara Davey, Peter Barrable, Fergal Nealon and Tomasz Raniszewski add to the depth of talent from Ireland in the field today. They'll all be hoping to emulate Chris Dowling who finished amongst the chip leaders on Day 1C. -- NW

3:45pm: Get your coat Mac
"Wow wow wow," said Fraser Macintyre with a shake of the head, the Scotsman had just been rivered in a big pot and was now short on chips. He didn't show his cards at the end but you suspect from the way he double checked them twice that he had a strong hand. Let's rewind though...

We picked up the action on the [9h][7s][8s] flop, Macintyre - who was in early position - bet 1,100, his two opponents were the small and big blind and both David Hipperson and Paul Frost stuck around to see the [3h] peel off on fourth street. When he was checked to for a second time Macintyre - who finished second at EPT8 Madrid - wasted little time in betting 3,100, this time only Frost called.

The [4h] completed the board and after fidgeting for a bit Frost decided to lead for 6,000, Macintyre instantly flicked in a chip to signify the call and Frost showed [Ah][Jh] for the nuts and Macintyre's rueful reflective routine began. He's now short on chips. -- NW

Blinds up: 200/400, ante 25

3:35pm: Aces for the Conv
Speaking of the four bet klaxon, EPT commentator and member of the PokerStars Blog Marc Convey - the term's creator - just picked up a pot with pocket aces. The Conv is now up to 45,000. --JS

3:32pm: A Cody cold four-bet
Over at Jake Cody's table, Charles Denton opened to 800 but it was three-bet by Owain Carey to 1,900. Then the four bet klaxon starting wailing, as Cody made it 5,400 to go. Both players folded and Jake raked it in. --JS

3:30pm: She's not wrong
Team PokerStars Pro Liv Boeree sat down shortly before the end of level three. "I've played three pots and won one of them," was her succinct summing up of how her day has gone so far.

3:15pm: Exits
We're up to 472 entries in total but only 446 players remain in their seats. Alli Mallu, Vincent Mcaulay, Dan Carter, Jonathan Kalmar, James Walsh, Gareth Coles, Luke Davies, Jesus Castro Reyes, Zack Rosen, Fergal Ocathain and Jonathan Haughian are among those who've been eliminated. -- NW

3pm: Counts from the break
We're keeping track of the names, notables and big stacks over on the chip count page. Diego Gomez, the eccentric - and talented - Spaniard has almost doubled his starting stack whilst Ian Simpson's latest shot at the tournament is going very well. At the other end of the scale Paul McTaggart, Dan Carter and Jon Kalmar might need to reload soon.

Vamos Leo!

2:50pm: Shoving prowess
An interesting hand just took place at table 67. We arrived at the action as Hui Jin had three-bet an early-position open from Tamer Kamel to 2,500. Kamel, who made a deep in run in the main event at EPT Prague in December, opted to call but then Vamshi Chaitanya Vandanapu to his left shoved his entire 5,500 stack in the middle, and that's where things got interesting.

In what you'd call a standard 'isolation' spot, Jin decided to re-raise all-in - for a whopping 41,000. The sheer size of the raise gave Kamel trouble, as he clearly had a touch decision on his hands for his tournament life. He did eventually make the fold, telling the table he threw away pocket tens. It turned out to be a good fold, as Jin had [jc][js]. Up against Vandanapu's [ah][jh], the board ran out [jd][8h][qc][4h][tc] and Jin raked in a nice pot, eliminating his opponent. --JS

Blinds up: 150/300 ante 25

2:22pm: First break
Players are now on their first break of the day as level 3 comes to end. --JS

2:20pm: Boeree joins Luske
One face you can't help but see at Dusk Till Dawn is Liv Boeree's, due to the PokerStars Team Pro posters proudly on display around the venue. But now the real thing is here; Liv has joined Marcel Luske's table - we'll be sure to keep an eye on her movements. --JS

2:10pm: Sing with Jake!
Jake Cody usually runs a #PlaywithJake competition where if you can guess his exact cards in a hand he plays you get a 1% freeroll of anything he cashes for in that tournament. He's mixed it up in Nottingham though.

2:00pm: Duthie needs another bullet
As the founder of the EPT, John Duthie is a man who knows the game of poker very well indeed, which means he's also familiar with getting unlucky. Just in case he had forgotten, his first bullet in the main event has just reminded him.

We didn't catch the early action, but Duthie was all-in pre-flop with [6c][6s] and was called in a couple of spots. Eventually the board ran out [8d][2s][qd][qh][ks]. Vitas Gapsevicius's [ah][kd] had got there on the river and it was time to reload for Duthie, who went straight to the cashier for another life. --JS

1:50pm: 433 and counting
The field is up to 433 so far and is sure to grow further before late registration closes at the start of level seven. It may well be bolstered by Albert Sapiano, Jonathan Willis and Milorad Dobrijevic who have all been eliminated. -- NW

1:40pm: Doke panic
Dara 'Doke' O'Kearney was noticeable for his absence from UKIPT5 London in January. Noticeable because he's been the Online Qualifier of the Year for the past two seasons, racking up more satellite wins to the UKIPT than anybody else.

There was nothing sinister behind his absence though and he's playing today, he's got Neil 'heffs' Raine for company at his table.

Blinds up: 100/200 ante 25

1:30pm: Leo Margets in the field
Leo Margets flew in from Spain to play in the UKIPT5 Nottingham main event, and the Team PokerStars pro is in her seat among the action. An hour ago she tweeted about the tournament - our Spanish isn't great, but 'masivo!' speaks for itself. Good luck Leo! --JS

1:20pm: Jake Cody - meet your new tablemates
Trickett's room, a separate area in Dusk Till Dawn usually reserved for high stakes cash games, has possibly one of the toughest of the 73 (and counting) tables here today. Surinder Sunar, Tom Hall, and PokerStars Team Pro Jake Cody are all sat right next to each other. We're sure they'll tangle at some point throughout the course of action.

When arrived at the table, Cody was involved in a healthy pot with Ben Ridley-Swanson, who had lead out for 6,000 with the board reading [8c][ts][kd][ah][ks]. Cody just called and Ridley-Swanson tabled [qh][qs], but it wasn't enough to beat Cody's [qc][jc] for a straight. With the board paired on the river and plenty of potential full house combinations out there, it's no surprise Jake opted not to raise. The day is young, after all. --JS

1:15pm: Tann off to a bad start
The legend that is Willie Tann beckoned the PokerStars Blog over, he clearly had a tale to tell. "I walked into a set," he said wistfully. "I had two pair." He wasn't done yet though as his tale of woe continued. "The someone made a hero call against me, I had [Jx][9x] and the flop came [10x][3x][8x], I missed and he called me down with the seven-three!"

After those mishaps Tann is down to 8,000. "That's plenty," he said with a smile. -- NW

1:00pm: No casualties yet
It's good news for anybody railing - there was no bust outs in level 1. Players are now in the second of ten levels that they'll play today. --JS

Blinds up: 75/150

12:55pm: Legends of the game
Among the masses today are some true legends of the game. John Duthie, the founder of the EPT, is saying his hellos before taking his seat, while Willie 'The Dice Man' Tann is already in the action. Meanwhile, new tables are being announced all the time, with seats reserved for Surinder Sunar and the Flying Dutchman himself, Marcel Luske.

John Duthie, United Kingdom, 25,000
Willie Tann, United Kingdom, 25,000
Marcel Luske, Netherlands, 25,000
Surinder Sunar, United Kingdom 25,000

--JS

The all new John Duthie

12:50pm: Start as you mean to go on
With so many tables it's not going to be hard to seek out some big pots, and one such hand was taking place at table 47. On a board of [4d][5d][8h][qh], Andrew Trujillo put out a bet of 1,650 which was called in two spots before Daniel Stanway bumped it up to 6,000. It was called around and four players went to a river, which was the [js]. It was checked around and Stanway flipped over [4c][4h] for a flopped set, which beat Trujillo's [as][qc]. With more than 24,000 in the pot, it's a nice start to the day for Stanway. --JS

12:45pm: He can talk and write but can he play?
Marc Convey is more likely to be found working on this tour or the EPT where he's held various roles including blogger and commentator. He recently picked up 'Media Person of the Year' at the European Poker Awards but today he's on the other side of the felt as he felt this tournament was too good to miss. He's liking the new structure too.

12:35pm: So. Many. Players.
There are already 395 players in the field today and there are so many notables that we can't list them all but to give you a flavour of who's playing we can tell you that Team PokerStars Pro Leo Margets, UKIPT4 leader board winner Dara Davey and UKIPT4 London champion Brett Angell are all playing today. We're going to keep track of them and other notables (as best we can) over on the chip count page though.

12:20pm: Some notables names
Play has begun here on Day 1D and Dusk Till Dawn is well and truly rammed, as expected. Despite the sea of people we still managed to catch some of the familiar faces who have taken their seats at the felt. Some of the notable names here already include:

Charlie Combes, United Kingdom, 25,000
Rich Trigg, United Kingdom, 25,000
Simon Hemsworth, United Kingdom, 25,000
Eleanor Gudger, United Kingdom, 25,000
Niall Farrell, United Kingdom, 25,000
Jack Salter, United Kingdom, 25,000
Keith Johnson, United Kingdom, 25,000
Brett Angell, United Kingdom, 25,000

We'll keep an eye on their progress as the day moves forward. --JS

12:15pm: Cody doesn't want that kind of hat-trick
Team PokerStars Pro Jake Cody played both Day 1B and Day 1C he's back again today but will be hoping he doesn't collect a hat-trick of bust outs.

12:10pm: They're off
Cards are in the air here at Dusk Till Dawn. -- NW

12pm: The first and last chance saloon
We've been here before, three times in fact but this time it feels different. For many this will be their first - and only - shot at the £1,000,000 GTD UKIPT5 Nottingham Main Event. For others this is their second, third or even fourth tilt at the title. But after today there are no more second or third chances, at the start of level seven this tournament becomes a straight freezeout.

All days of tournament poker are the same - the blinds rise and players depart - but no two are exactly alike. We don't know exactly what will happen today but what we can say with some certainty is that fourth and final starting day of this tournament will be by far the busiest. In fact the safest bet of the week is that the total number of runners today will be higher than the previous three start days combined. A total of 469 have tried so far, we may well get 600 today, perhaps more.

Ukipt5_nottingham_cody_froch.jpg

Would you steal this man's big blind?

Jake Cody is one of those who's back trying for a third time, fellow Team PokerStars Pro Liv Boeree is taking her first shot and IBF and WBA Super Middleweight champion Carl Froch is also playing today. The local lad was put through a poker boot camp by Cody earlier in the week so we're sure he's up for the fight.

Players are being called to their seats and action will be under way shortly.

Key UKIPT5 Nottingham Facts:
- 25,000 starting stack
- Blinds starting at 50/100 for 250 big blinds
- Day 1D is today, the field will then combine for the first time on Saturday before playing down to a winner on Sunday. Cue quaffing of champagne and awkward posing for the winners photo whilst the runner-up wishes he (or she) was anywhere else.
-The UKIPT structure has been tweaked for Season 5. Levels on Day 1 are now 45 minutes, on Day 2 that increases to 60 minutes.

8:40pm: After four long Day 1s, it's time for Day 2
Day 1D is now in the books. 214 players survived the ten-levels of play and will return tomorrow for Day 2 of the UKIPT5 Nottingham main event. We'll be back with a full round-up of the day's events shortly, including chip leaders and late bust-outs. Stay tuned. --JS

8:20pm: Last three hands
Dealers have been told to deal just three more hands before Day 1D play wraps up. --JS

8:10pm: Tough blow for Boeree
PokerStars Team Pro Liv Boeree just had a dent put in her chipstack with just 17 minutes of play remaining. We arrived on the flop, but Liv filled us in on the pre-flop action.

After an under-the-gun limp, Mark Hitchens raised it up and got Liv and two others to call. The flop was the [kc][8d][2h], which Hitchens saw as an opportunity to c-bet 3,200, which Boeree called. The turn was the [5c] and Hitchens checked over to Liv who bet 7,200, and got a call. The [as] on the river wasn't the prettiest card if either player had a king in their hands, and Hitchens bet enough to put Liv all-in. It was certainly a tough decision - "Did you just call down with ace-high and get there?" she asked her opponent. Ultimately she decided to fold her [kh][qd] and live to fight another battle - but Hitchens turned over [6c][7c] for nothing but a busted straight and flush draw. Liv's got 7,200 left and will be hoping to make something happen before play ends. --JS

Liv needs a double-up

8:10pm: So close
It's so close but yet so far for: Craig McCorkell, Tom Langely, Dean Clay, Fergal Nealon and Daniel Stacey who've all busted out during the last level of the day. -- NW

7:57pm: Tann and Trigg out
Unfortunately, right after our post 'The Dice Man' Willie Tann got knocked out. Some of the other names to have exited recently include Rick Trigg, Daxi Zhang, Stuart Toogood, Hak-mann Lee, and Ben Spraggons. --JS

Blinds up: 600/1,200, ante 200

7:50pm: A race as old as time
It's a classic. It's always been there. For as long as the game of Texas Hold 'em has existed, there have been pocket pair versus overcard battles that have seen many hearts broken and many lives changed for the better. Although it's still only Day 1 here in Nottingham, perhaps we've just witnessed one.

Rob Tinnion min-opened and Michael Jolyt raised it up. With the action back on Tinnion he raised again to 15,000 and Jolyt shoved. After some careful thought, Rob made the call and the pair were flipping for about 50,000 each. The racing hands? [jh][jd] for Tinnion, and [ac][kh] for Jolyt.

The flop put Jolyt in the lead, as it fell [3c][ks][2s]. The [6h] turn changed nothing, but the miracle [jc] on the river certainly did. Heartbreaking for Jolyt but triumphant for Tinnion, who now sits pretty with 108,000. --JS

7:40pm: Old guys can play too!
Willie Tann had a disastrous opening level, dropping to 8,000 at one point. He's since recovered and is going along nicely with 67,000 -- NW

7:30pm: The Poker Gods care not for reputation
Whilst some might claim they're unlucky at the poker table (they must be lucky in love then!) the truth is the Poker Gods - and the cards - have no memory and they aren't stacked against or in favour of any one individual. Got your aces cracked? That'll happen. As will busting a tournament and some big names have been left potless in Nottingham, which is after all the home of robbing the rich and giving to the poor. That's all a long winded way of saying that: David Lappin, Leigh Wiltshire, Caicai Huang, Andrew Hawksby, Sunil Mistri, Ivan Luca, Fraser Macintyre, Jude Ainsworth and Patryk Slusarek are all out.
286 players remain on Day 1D. -- NW

7:25pm: Silver wins the race
With a raise and a shove in front of him, Max Silver decided it was time to make a stand and called off his 7,200 short stack. Only the all-in player - Mark Roberts - called, and when cards were on their backs it was Silver's [as][js] against the [9c][9h] of Roberts. The [5d][6h][3s] flop was no help for Max - nor was the [qc] on the turn - but an ace from outer space arrived on the river and Max is now sitting with 21,500. --JS

7:10pm: Chip leaders
With two levels to go on Day 1D these are the players contesting the chip lead.

Sam Mitten-laurence, United Kingdom, 146,000
Charlie Combes, United Kingdom, 143,000
Carretero Santos, 136,000
Joao Almeida, Portugal, 132,000
Ian Bosley, United Kingdom, 130,000
Hui Jin, United Kingdom, 130,000
Phillip Mighall, United Kingdom, 130,000
Kestutis Kristapaitis, Lithuania, 117,000
Mark Hitchens, United Kingdom, 115,000
William Kassouf, United Kingdom, 112,000

Blinds up: 500/1,000, ante 100

6:50pm: And...break
The players are now on their final 20 minute recess of the day. -- NW

6:45pm: More gold for Gomez
Diego Gomez is situated at the same table as his compatriot Leo Margets. The Team PokerStars Pro, who has 44,000, looked on as Gomez tangled against Thales Salomao. The latter opened to 1,200 from under-the-gun+1 and Gomez defended his big blind. Both players checked the [6c][2h][6s] flop and the [Js] landed on the turn. Gomez checked again, Salomao bet 2,200 and called when Gomez check-raised to 4,600 total.
The river was the [3c] and a bet of 9,300 was enough to win the pot for Gomez, although Salomao tanked for a long time before folding. -- NW

6:40pm: Falling fast
Just 326 of the 557 players who entered today's Main Event remain as we approach the end of level eight here at Dusk Till Dawn. Among those on the rail are: Carl Froch (he re-entered and then busted), Ben Jenkins, Brett Angell, Gordon Huntly, Paul Simmons, Jack Ellwood and Lee Taylor. - NW

6:35pm: Tough hand for Cody
Jake Cody has had a lot of well-known tablemates today - Tom Hall, Surinder Sunar, Marcel Luske and now Liv Boeree - but unfortunately his tables keep breaking.

The last hand before Jake and Liv's table split, however, was a tough one for the PokerStars Team Pro. He opened to 1,900 and found two callers in the small and big blinds. The flop was [8h][9h][3d] and it was checked around to Jake who bet 2,700 and got one caller - Mehtab Shabir. The [qd] fell on the turn and Shabir checked once more, resulting in a 7,000 bet from Cody. After some interrogation and finding out that Jake had "started the hand with about 50,000", Shabir raised it up to 15,200, and Jake made the call. The river was the [5c] and Shabir put Jake all-in. He went deep into the tank for about four minutes but eventually decided to give it up. Shabir showed his hand - [9s][7s] for second pair - and Jake couldn't help but look like he regretted his decision.

Who will Jake and Liv have on their new tables? We'll soon find out. --JS

6:10pm: Luske on the up
Over at Jake Cody's table we noticed that Marcel Luske had joined him, sitting in the seat to his right. We found Luske among the action, raising to 1,800 and getting three-bet by Charles Denton to 3,000 (although he initially tried to raise to just 2,450 - something which intrigued the Flying Dutchman). Luske made the call and the flop came [2c][tc][ts], which was checked round - as was the [7s] turn. When the [3d] came on the river Luske led out for 4,000 and was quickly called by Denton, who mucked when Luske turned over [5c][7c] for two pair, tens and sevens.

What with Cody and Luske as neighbours, the table seemed like it might have been a fun one to rail, but unfortunately the table has now broke. Shame. --JS

5:45pm: The champ's chipping up
Speaking of champs, four-time super-middleweight boxing world champion Carl Froch seems to be faring better on his second bullet of the day after taking down a nice pot which took his chip stack up to 39,000.

Alex Goulder opened to 1,400 and Froch called in the small blind, as did Arvin Ravindran in the big. The flop was [4d][jh][7s] and it was checked around to Goulder who continued for 2,000. That wasn't enough for Froch, though, who doubled it to 4,000. Ravindran got out of the way, Goulder called, and we went heads-up to the turn. It was the [2d] and Froch thought about betting whilst tapping on his arm. "Was that a check?" Goulder asked, but the two players laughed it off. Froch's bet size was 3,000 and again Goulder called. The [kh] river led Froch to fire out a blue 5,000 chip, a bet Goulder would look up. It was a nice river for 'The Cobra' who turned over [ah][kd] for the winning hand, as Goulder mucked. --JS

5:30pm: High Roller champ's back
Ivan Luca arrived just in time to buy in on Day 1D. He managed to become chipleader yesterday before busting not long after - will he fare better today? --JS

5:25pm: It's a lock out
Anyone who busts from this point on will not be able to re-buy as late registration has closed. Plenty of players have already gone broke today and opted not to re-buy. The likes of Nicolas Cardyn, Thomas High, Tim Davie, Dale Garrad, Tom Hall Tamer Kamel and Kelly Saxby are already on the rail. Perhaps they'll opt to play the £100,000 GTD Notts Cup which starts at 7pm tonight.

Remi Wyrzykiewicz reigns on Day 1D of UKIPT5 Nottingham

Remi 'ctrl+c' Wyrzykiewicz finished top of the chip charts

Whilst no poker day is alike their pattern is somewhat formulaic and set in stone. The blinds rise, players depart and someone ends the day as chip leader having accumulated significantly more than what they started with. But whilst today was the same, it was also different. You can read on below to find out who did well, who did less so and what to expect tomorrow but, the headline news arrived late on Day 1D and had nothing to do with the checking, raising and folding going on at the felt.

Yes, we're talking money here, which is the way we keep score in poker after all. When late registration closed and the numbers were totted up it was established that 1,026 players had entered the UKIPT5 Nottingham Main Event. Together they created a prize pool of exactly £1,000,000. Those riches will start getting dished out to the top 151 finishers tomorrow - during level 15 or 16 is our educated guess - but the big bucks won't be divvied up until Sunday. The biggest slice of the pie stands at a massive £182,000 - only twice on the UKIPT has anyone won more - a final table appearance will lock up £17,320, whilst a min-cash will swell your coffers to to the tune of £1,760. Not a bad return considering many satellited in for far less. You can see the full payout structure here.

Today was by far the busiest start day with 494 players showing up, a further 63 fired a second bullet meaning Day 1D surpassed the total for the three prior start days on its own. The general rule of thumb is that the bigger the field the bigger the chip leaders stack will be but that half-baked theory proved incorrect today as today's chip leader finished with fewer than the 205,900 Alex Harriman accumulated on Day 1C and the 190,900 Max Ladrbrooke bagged on Wednesday.

Nonetheless Remi Wyrzykiewicz ran his stack all the way up to 189,600 to lead. The 24-year-old multi-table tournament player from Poznan, in Poland is rapidly growing in stature in both online and bricks and mortar environments. "I'm just starting out on a live career," he told us at EPT11 Malta last month. The Pole pipped Seun Oluwole who finished on an impressive 176,800 by the time play ended. For 26-year-old Oluwole, who works in IT within foreign exchange, it was a welcome return to the tour. Oluwole was a regular face during Seasons 2 and 3. "I chose work over poker," he said. "I really miss poker though, I'm very much a recreational fish these days." That may be but he put his day's progress down to 'doing what he used to do'. He'll be hoping he continues in that vein tomorrow.

Ukipt5_nottingham_main_event_day1d_seun_oluwole..jpg

It was just like old times for Oluwole

But of course Wyrzykiewicz and Oluwole wasn't the only ones to set themselves up for a run at the money as Jamie O'Connor (173,200) Hui Jin (169,000) and David La Ronde (168,100) also stacked them high today and will be back tomorrow in good spirits.

As will Team PokerStars Pro Jake Cody, it was third time lucky for Cody today as he misfired on Day 1B and Day 1C but got a bullet to hit the target today. His stack of 17,300 might equate to fewer than 11 big blinds but he was still smiling at the end of play. "I'm still in the mix," he said with a grin.

So too is Leo Margets, the Spaniard had a topsy-turvy day but will return with 32,900 - a touch over 20 big blinds - and will be looking for her maiden UKIPT cash tomorrow.

Ukipt5_nottingham_main_event_day1d_jake_cody.jpg

Cody's still in the mix...

Ukipt5_nottingham_main_event_day1d_leo_margets.jpg

...as is Margets

Unfortunately Liv Boeree would not be so lucky. She was looking set fair until the final level of the night when an opponent ran a river bluff on her in a weird spot. "What bluffs can he have there?" she said. That left her short and she exited on the last hand of play.

She joined a long list of exalted poker stars on the rail as only roughly 211 of the 557 who entered today survived: John Duthie, Dara O'Kearney, Max Silver, Owain Carey, Fergal Nealon, David Lappin, Craig McCorkell, Ian Simpson, Kelly Saxby, Brett Angell, Willie Tann, Ben Heath, Rick Trigg, Ivan Luca, Jude Ainsworth, Jack Ellwood and Super-middleweight World Champion boxer Carl Froch were just some of those knocked out today.

Sunil Pancholi leads after Day 1A of UKIPT5 Nottingham

$

Jeremy Betts, United Kingdom, PokerStars Qualifier, 108,400
Ben Martin, United Kingdom, 106,100
Harprit Gurnam, United Kingdom, 87,600
Niall Murray, United Kingdom, 83,500
Richard Strittmatter, PokerStars Qualifier, United Kingdom, 78,200
Mark McCluskey, United Kingdom, 73,300
Adam Pikett, United Kingdom, 71,900
Martijn Van Den Assem, Netherlands, PokerStars Player, 61,900
Athir Ali, United Kingdom, 57,100
Jordan Theobald, PokerStars Qualifier, United Kingdom, 50,700
Craig Borrer, United Kingdom, 41,500
Frank Romanello, PokerStars Qualifier, United Kingdom, 37,300

Ukipt5_nottingham_main event_day1A_ben_martin.jpg

Ukipt5_nottingham_main event_day1A_martins_adeniya.jpg

Adeniya - fired two bullets

The 15 who did advance now have a long wait until midday on Saturday when they'll be back for Day 2. The PokerStars Blog will return before then though. We'll be back on Tuesday to cover Day 1 of the High Roller before turning our attention to the Main Event from Wednesday. For now though, goodnight.

UKIPT5 Nottingham: Fill your boots with Footgolf, Beer pong and more

$

If you want to take part in any of the activities contact the @UKIPTHotels team or come and see us at Dusk Till Dawn during UKIPT Nottingham.

UKIPT5 Nottingham High Roller: Level 1-10 updates (blinds 600/1,200 ante 200)

Ben Dobson, United Kingdom, 21,400
Christopher Brammer, United Kingdom, 16,800

Ukipt5_nottingham_high_roller_day1_liv_boereejpg

Ukipt5_nottingham_high_roller_day1_neil_strike.jpg

Neil Strike

Blinds up: 75/150

The plan today is to play 10 levels each of which will 45 minutes meaning play will end around 1.30am. Each player starts with 25,000 chips and they have the option to re-buy once should they bust before late registration closes at around 10.10pm. The players who are here have just been called to their seats and action is about to start.
