UKIPT5 Marbella Final Table: Level 26 -33 updates (120,000/240,000 ante 30,000)

7:55pm: From sunny Spain to South West England
That's almost it from Marbella, a full wrap of the day's play will be uploaded shortly though. After that our attention turns to the next UKIPT stop, which takes place in Bristol, August 6th-9th. Satellites are running now on PokerStars and you can find out more about the event by clicking here. --NW

7:50pm: Jose Angel Latorre eliminated in 2nd place (€91,500); Isidoro Barreña wins UKIPT5 Marbella (€150,800)
The heads up battle between these two players saw very few three-bets but the last hand of the tournament saw a four-bet shove and a call all in.

Isidoro Barreña raised to 500,000 before he faced a Jose Angel Latorre three-bet to 1,350,000. Barreña wasted little time in moving all in and Latorre called all in for around 9.5 million after giving it a minute's thought.

Latorre: [ad][jd]
Barreña: [ah][qd]

Latorre gave out a cry of frustration when he saw Barreña's dominating hand and he wasn't any happier after the board ran [7c][4s][5s][qc][8s] to hand the title to him. -- MC

This trophy belongs to Isidoro Barreña

7:33pm: Even-stevens
A couple more small pots went the way of Isidoro Barreña and he's just a couple of big blinds off the stack of Jose Angel Latorre now. -- MC

LEVEL UP: BLINDS 120,0005-240,000, ante 30,000

7:23pm: Straight over straight
Jose Angel Latorre made a smaller straight than Isidoro Barreña and did well not to lose more than he did.

He raised to 400 and Barreña called before both players checked a [7d][8h][4h] flop. Barreña then led for 375,000 and 600,000 on the [td][6h] turn and river. Latorre opened [kh][9d] and lost out to Barreña's [js][9s].

Barreña had lost a couple of small pots before that so this pot got him back up to 8.7 million. --MC

7:15pm: No deal talk yet
The difference between first and second place is almost €60,000 but despite the stacks being quite close there hasn't been any flickers of a sign of a deal as yet. -- NW

7:10pm: Latorre back in the lead
You've got to hand it to Jose Angel Latorre, he started heads-up play with a big chip lead but lost that within the first half an hour of heads-up play. For the past two and a half hours he's been the short stack of the two players but that's no longer the case as he's back in the lead.

The switcharoo happened, funnily enough, in a limped pot, with Latorre checking his option after Isidoro Barreña had completed from the button/small blind. Neither player deigned to bet on the [7d][Jh][3c] flop but on the [8d] turn Latorre overbet the pot (just) betting 500,000, call from Barreña. The [Ks] completed the board and Latorre reached deep, pushing out a bet of 1,360,000 which was quickly called by Barreña. First to show was Latorre and he had [Ts][9d] for a straight, Barreña could only shake his head when he saw the news.

Stacks now roughly 11,500,000 to 8,900,000 in Latorre's favour. --NW

7:02pm: Latorre back to eight figures
Jose Angel Latorre has got his stack back up to ten million for the first time in a good while and that may provide a mental breakthrough for him.

He won two pots without showdown whilst in position. He raised to 400,000 and went on the bet 300,000 and 850,000 on the flop and turn. The board read [8h][js][td][kd] when Isidoro Barreña bailed on the hand.

Two hands later, Latorre raised his button again. Barreña called the extra 200,000 and both players checked to the river where Latorre bet 700,000. Barreña stared at the [th][qs][kc][8s][jd] board for a while and then mucked his hand. -- MC

6:50pm: One for you, one for me
We nearly had another all-in and call as Isidoro Barreña made a huge shove on the flop in the following hand...

It began, as many of the heads-up pots have, with Jose Angel Latorre min-raising on the button and Barreña flat calling from the big blind. On the [2s][Ts][3d] flop Latorre c-bet 375,000 and Barreña then check-raised all-in. It was a huge overbet and Latorre was slightly taken aback by it. He dwelt for maybe two minutes before folding his hand.

On the next hand Barreña made it 475,000 to play and that was a price Latorre liked as he made up the extra. On the [Ks][7c][6h] flop Barreña c-bet 525,000 and Latorre stuck around. There was no betting on the [5h] turn but Latorre came out firing on the [6c] river, pushing out chips totalling 1,150,000. After getting a count Barreña called, but he wished he hand't as Latorre had the winning hand, [Kh][9c] to be precise.

After that hand Latorre has around 8,900,000 and Barreña has 11,600,000. -- NW

6:42pm: Latorre getting closer and closer
Isidoro Barreña is looking a little frustrated after losing a couple of pots to Jose Angel Latorre. The gap is down around 2.5 million chips as a result.

Latorre raised to 400,000 and Barreña peeled to see a [6d][2d][9d] flop. Latorre continued for 375,000 and Barreña check-called before both players checked the [4s] turn. That was the invitation Barreña needed to bluff the [6h] river with [qd][8h]. Latorre called with [as][4h] and scooped. -- MC

6:25pm: Latorre gets his double
Jose Angel Latorre is now in a much healthier position as he just doubled up to the relative comfort zone of 30 big blinds.

First to act he shoved for 3,250,000 with [Ac][3s] and after getting a count Isidoro Barreña called the shove with [Kh][Td]. There was a 42.66% chance this would be the final hand of the tournament, but the [9s][8c][Ah][3d][7d] board favoured Latorre and the best hand held to boost him to 6,560,000. --NW

6:15pm: Chips
Jose Angel Latorre has less than 16 big blinds to his name as level 32 gets under way.

Isidoro Barreña, 17,375,000

5:55pm: Break time
The players are now on a 15 minute break, official counts coming soon. --NW

5:45pm: Latorre's river shove gets through
Jose Angel Latorre just moved all-in on the river. Did he want a call? We'll never know.

He opened the action by raising to 350,000 on the button and Isidoro Barreña put in the extra from the big blind. On the [5d][Ac][Qs] flop Latorre fired out a bet of 275,000 and Barreña stuck around. The [Qc] hit the turn and a bet of 500,000 couldn't shake Barreña. The [7c] completed a backdoor flush draw and after Barreña checked for a third time Latorre moved all-in for 2,1750,000 and despite giving it a long old think Barreña eventually folded.

That hand takes Latorre up to 4,400,000 but Barreña, with roughly 16,000,000, is still very much in charge. --NW

5:35pm: Latorre gets some back
Wins at showdown have been few and far between for Jose Angel Latorre in this heads-up match but he just clawed a few chips back after getting some value on the river.

It was a limped pot pre-flop with Isidoro Barreña completing nad Latorre checking his option. There was no betting until the river of a [Qc][5s][6s][5h][2h] board, at which point Latorre bet 350,000 and Barreña looked him up. Latorre showed [6d][2s] and it was enough to earn him the pot. --NW

5:25pm: Latorre slipping
Jose Angel Latorre is down to 4,000,000 after losing a few pots in succession to Isidoro Barreña. The biggest of them happened when Latorre opened to 350,000 and Barreña smooth called. The Supernova Elite fired once on the flop of a [Qd][Ts][Ks][Th][7c] board before checking the turn and folding to a bet of 700,000 on the river. --NW

Ukipt5_marbella_main_event_day4_jose_angel_latorre.jpg

Can Latorre get his lead back?

5:15pm: Big action, chopped pot
The two players just played a near 7,000,000 chip pot but there was no fluctuation in the chip counts as the pot was chopped.

The full board was [6d][7c][8c][4d][4s] and on the river Jose Angel Latorre bet 2,000,000 into a pot of around 3,000,000.After about 10 seconds Isidoro Barreña made the call and both players showed a five for a straight meaning we had a chopped pot. --NW

5:10pm: Small pot poker
Since level 31 started there's been a notable increase in the number of limped pots. Both players are keeping the pots small right now. -- NW

5pm: As you were
No big pots to report, the players have simply been trading small and medium ones. No real change in chip counts so Isidoro Barreña still has just over a 2:1 chip lead. Jose Angel Latorre still have around 40 big blinds so there's plenty of play left. -- NW

LEVEL UP: BLINDS 80,000/160,000, ante 20,000

4:45pm: Double up for Latorre
Jose Angel Latorre has managed to stop the rot as he just scored a full double up.

He raised to 250,000 pre-flop and Isidoro Barreña called. On the [Td][7h][5s][8c][3c] board Latorre bet 250,000, 600,000 and then moved all-in for 2,455,000 on the river and Barreña called him every step of the way.

At showdown Latorre opened [7s][7c] which was good enough for the pot as Barreña had [Ad][5d].

So chip counts now:

Latorre - 6.6 million
Barreña - 13.9 million

4:40pm: Barreña can do no wrong
Isidoro Barreña has a 17,000,000 to 3,000,000 chip lead after winning yet another massive pot heads-up.

After Jose Angel Latorre opened to 250,000, Barreña three-bet to 600,000 and Latorre called. The flop fell [3h][6h][Qh], bet of 450,000 from Barreña, call from Latorre. On the [9c] turn Barreña bet another 620,000 and Latorre called once more.

The [Jc] completed the board and Barreña elected to slow down, he checked the action to Latorre, he bet 2,200,000 and, after getting a count, Barreña called. Latorre opened [Kh][7s] whilst Barreña had [Ah][Qc]. Whilst Latorre had been rooting for a heart, if another one had appeared it would probably be all over.

As it is he still has 3,000,000 to work with but can he stop the rot? -- NW

Ukipt5_marbella_main_event_day3_isidoro_barreña.jpg

Isidoro Barreña is on a roll

4:30pm: Latorre loses the lead
Heads-up Sit and Go specialist Jose Angel Latorre cannot win a pot so far is his duel with Isidoro Barreña. Apart from getting a walk in one hand, he's lost every other pot and the chip lead for the first time.

Latorre raised to 250,000 and Barreña called to a [5c][ks][qs] flop where he check-called a 200,000 c-bet. The [4d][9c] turn and river were checked and Barreña opened [qd][jd]. Latorre mucked.

Another hand followed an identical pattern and Barreña opened [kc][ts] with the board showing [as][3s][tc][2h][3c]. Latorre mucked once more.

Groundhog day once more as Barreña's [5d][6h] was good on a [7h][th][5c][3c][qd] board.

The only good thing for Latorre right now is that he hasn't had to show down many hands. He's going to need to change tactics or flop better to stop the slide.

Chips:

Latorre - 9 million
Barreña - 11.5 million

Heads up

4:10pm: First blood to Barreña
The two players are now a lot closer in chips as Isidoro Barreña just won the first significant pot of heads-up play.

It was Jose Angel Latorre who had the betting lead the whole way, he raised to 250,000 pre-flop and then fired out bets of 200,000, 850,000 and 2,525,000 on the [6s][Qs][7c][Qc][4d] board. It took Barreña progressively longer to call each street but call he did.

At showdown Latorre went to muck but once the Tournament Director told him that Barreña would not have to show if he did that, he decided to show his cards - [8c][2h] - and that meant Barreña had to show to win and his [Qh][5h] was good for the pot.

The counts are now roughly:

Latorre - 11,350,000
Barreña - 9,100,000

4pm: Heads up counts
Play has resumed with Jose Angel Latorre holding a 3:1 advantage. Still plenty of play for Isidoro Barreña though.

Latorre - 15,370,000
Barreña - 5,125,000

Let heads-up play commence

3:55pm: Rodrigo Rosales eliminated in third place (€64,600)
Rodrigo Rosales' fun ride has come to an end in third place. The young Spaniard was never afraid to put his chips in the middle. He found a great spot to do so but walked into a bigger hand behind.

Jose Angel Latorre raised to 240,000 from the button before Rosales moved all in for around 1.8million from the small blind. Isidoro Barreña called very quickly from the big blind and Latorre moved out of the way.

Rosales: [as][5s]
Barreña:[ad][jd]

The board ran [7h][6c][9d][9s][9c].

The two remaining players are taking a ten-minute break before heads up play begins. Official chip counts coming up, too. -- MC

Rodrigo Rosales - 3rd place

LEVEL UP: BLINDS 60,000/120,000, ante 20,000

3:50pm: Give and take
No sooner had Isidoro Barreña doubled up, then he was giving some back to Jose Angel Latorre. In a limped pot Barreña bet 200,000 on the [As][5s][9h] flop and called when Latorre check-raised to 760,000. The chip leader fired out a bet of 1,200,000 on the [5c] turn and Barreña let his hand go. He's back down to 3,100,000 as a result. -- NW

3:45pm: Isidoro Barreña doubles through Rodrigo Rosales
Rodrigo Rosales had gained a few and Isidoro Barreña had lost some by the time this key hand took place.

The former opened on the button to 260,000, Barreña moved all-in for 1,960,000 and after getting a count Rosales made the call.

Rosales: [Ah][5s]
Barreña: [Ad][Tc]

A [3h][7c][3d][8d][6s] board kept Barreña in front and he doubled to 4,000,000, whilst Rosales slipped to around 2,100,000. --NW

Ukipt5_marbella_main_event_day3_isidoro_barreña.jpg

Barreña scored a crucial double up

3:42pm: A family pot!
What a treat to see all three players see a flop in a raised pot.

Rodrigo Rosales raised to 175,000 from the button and both opponents called to the [6c][tc][5h] flop that was checked through. The turn was the [2s] and Jose Angel Latorre bet 500,000 but folded, along with Isidoro Barreña, when Rosales moved all in.

Rough chip counts after that hand:

Jose Angel Latorre - 15,000,000
Isidoro Barreña - 3,500,000
Rodrigo Rosales - 3,000,000
-- MC

3:33pm: Dario Carrion eliminated in fourth place (€48,400)
Then there were three after the elimination of Dario Carrion in fourth.

Carrion had been waiting for a hand and found it when he was under the gun. He had 1.15 million and it they went. The action folded around to Isidoro Barreña in the big blind who insta-called.

Carrion: [qd][qh]
Barreña: [ad][jd]

The board ran [ks][ac][2h][kd][as] to make Barreña a full house.

UKIPT5_Marbella_final_Dario_Carrion.jpg

Dario Carrion - fourth place

Carrion got to know what it felt like to have opponents over celebrating your demise as Rodrigo Rosales - who got a warning after the hand for his conduct - was not shy in showing his emotions at making the final three. -- MC

3:25pm: A flop!
A flop! A flop!

Inevitably it was a pot involving Jose Angel Latorre and Rodrigo Rosales. The former raised to 250,000 from the small blind and Rosales called out of the big.

On the [8h][8c][4d] flop Latorre bet 240,000 and Rosales made the call. The [Jd] hit the turn and another bet from Latorre won him the pot. Rosales is down to 1,500,000. -- NW

3:20pm: History repeating
The last dozen hands have gone one of three ways:

- Jose Angel Latorre has received a walk
- Jose Angel Latorre has raised and won the pot pre-flop
- Jose Angel Latorre has raised pre-flop and folded to another players shove

As you were then. -- NW

3:15pm: More for Latorre
It continues to be the Jose Angel Latorre show. If his opponents aren't shoving preflop - like Rodrigo Rosales did, for 1.8 million after a Latorre min raise - then he's winning every single pot and has a stack that's gone past 16 million.

There haven't been any showdown hands to report as Latorre gets opponents off hands before the river. Rosales seems to be the one player willing to take risks whereas it may be the case Dario Carrion and Isidoro Barreña are looking at the payout jumps. That's understandable too, as you can see below, the jumps are getting big now. -- MC

2:55pm: Lots of pots for Latorre
Given that Jose Angel Latorre is a high stakes sit and go specialist you suspect he knows a thing or two about ICM. He really is applying pressure to everyone else at the table and has won five of the first six pots in this level.

It's hard to see anything other than a Latorre victory right now although we've been here before and had a different outcome. Willie Elliot had a commanding chip lead with six left at UKIPT4 Nottingham before busting in fourth place.

Latorre is a composed presence at the table and seems to know exactly where he is in every pot so a blow up looks unlikely. --NW

The players are now on a 20-minute break, it'll take most of that to colour up Jose Angel Latorre's mountain of chips. --NW

2:22pm: David Vedral eliminated in fifth place (€38,200)
And then there were four...

From under-the-gun Rodrigo Rosales opened to 190,000, David Vedral then three-bet shoved for 1,190,000 and action folded to Jose Angel Latorre in the big blind. He first asked for a count of Vedral's shove and then asked Rosales how much he had (about four million total). Latorre then announced call and Rosales followed suit so Vedral was starring at a treble up should he win the pot.

The flop came [4c][6h][Td], Latorre bet 500,000 and Rosales called fairly quickly. The [3s] hit the turn, "all-in," said Latorre and Rosales threw his head back in despair before thinking for about 20 seconds and folding pocket nines face up.

It proved to be a shrewd fold as Latorre had [Ah][Ac] whilst Vedral had [Ad][Th]. The [4d] completed the board and again there was some unsavoury celebrating as Rosales shouted 'Vamos' and turned to his rail to give them a fist-bump before Vedral had even left the table. There was no show of emotion from Vedral at this though and he shook hands with everyone before departing. --NW

Vedral - a great run to finish fourth

2:15pm: Dario Carrion doubles through Rodrigo Rosales
If ever you needed reminding to pay attention at the table then this hand involving Rodrigo Rosales and Dario Carrion should bring it home.

Rosales had just won a pot against Jose Angel Latorre and was still stacking his chips as the next hand started and chatting to his mates on the rail. That all meant that he missed Dario Carrion moving all-in for 810,000 and so when the action reached Rosales on the button he through out a bet of 225,000 thinking that he was the first player into the pot.

His error was pointed out and he called the extra and both blinds folded, Carrion had [6s][6h] and was ahead of the [Ah][3c] of Rosales. The [9s][Kd][Jd][4h][5c] board improved neither hand and Carrion doubled up.

A couple of hands later Carrion and Rosales were all-in pre-flop again but both had ace-queen and they chopped the pot. --NW

2:10pm: Sam Grafton eliminated in 6th place (€28,600)
That was all she wrote for Sam Grafton, the last British player to depart, in sixth place, up three spots from where he finished last year.

The action folded around to him in the small blind where he moved all in for his last 930,000. Isidoro Barreña was in the big blind and took several minutes before he called.

Grafton: [qh][5d]

1:50pm: Grafton and Carrion getting short
Whilst four players are firmly in short stack territory it's Sam Grafton and Dario Carrion who are feeling the pinch the most. Grafton is down to around 1,200,000 and Carrion has about 800,000. -- NW

1:40pm: Rosales making a run at this
Thus far Rodrigo Rosales has been the only player willing to take on Jose Angel Latorre and it's worked out well for him over the last couple of orbits as he's won two big pots against him.

In the first of them Latorre opened to 175,000 from the cutoff and Rosales smooth called on the button. On the [4c][4d][8s] flop Latorre check called a bet of 400,000 and both players then checked the [8h] turn. The [5c] completed the board and Latorre pushed out a bet of 760,000, about 20 seconds later Rosales announced that he was all-in - for what looked like 1,700,000 - and Latorre wasted little time in folding. Rosales flipped [Ah][8c] as he took the pot.

The next orbit Latorre opened to 165,000 on the button and Roasles smooth called from the small blind. The two of them saw a [Ts][Js][5s] flop, Latorre bet 200,000 and Rosales made the call. The turn was the [9d], once again Rosales checked, Latorre bet again, this time 500,000, Rosales then announced raise and as he went to slide out some chips Latorre mucked his hand. Again Rosales showed that he had it as he opened [Ks][Qs].

After those two coups he's up to about 5,000,000, inbetween losing the big pots Latorre is winning lots of small ones so is still the overwhelming chip leader. --NW

LEVEL UP: BLINDS 40,000/80,000, ante 10,000

1:25pm: Grafton loses one to Rosales
Jose Angel Latorre has continued to win most pots uncontested or with little post-flop resistance and had passed the 11 million mark. At one point no opponent had even a half average stack but Rodrigo Rosales won a three-bet pot off Sam Grafton to move up to 2.4 million.

He raised to 180,000 from early position and called after Grafton three-bet to 425,000 from the next seat. The board rolled out [ad][5d][ah][6h][js] with no more chips going in until the river where Rosales bet 625,000. Grafton thought for two minutes and then folded to drop to 1.34 million. -- MC

1:10pm: Big pot or small pot, Latorre can't lose
Jose Angel Latorre now has over half the chips in play after winning a big pot against Dario Carrion.

The latter opened to 120,000 from the cutoff and Latorre smooth called from the button. Carrion seceded the betting action to Latorre from the flop onwards and called bets of 200,000, 500,000 and 960,000 respectively as the board came [Jd][Qh][6s][6h][Qc]. At showdown Latorre showed [Qd][Td] and Carrion mucked his hand. That pot took Latorre over the 10,000,000 mark and he has an absolute mountain of chips which is extending all the way over the betting line. Such is his dominance that no one else has an above average stack! Here's how the final six stack up right now:

1:10pm: Jeffrey Brouwer eliminated in seventh place (€20,100)
Jeffrey Brouwer was down to just 550,000 by the time he took his stand. He moved all-in with [Ac][8c] from the cutoff and Jose Angel Latorre re-raised all-in from the small blind with [Ah][Qs] to isolate the shove.

Brouwer shouted something in Dutch to his rail, presumably "I'm in bad shape," or similar, and it didn't get any better for him as although the [Ad][Qc][4d][7s][8d] gave him two pair, Latorre made a superior two pair and eliminated the Dutchman in seventh place. --NW

1pm: Rosales tangles with Latorre
Jose Angel Latorre has continued to apply pressure on his tablemates, looking to utilise his lofty position. One would like to be sat to the left of him and that's where Rodrigo Rosales can be found and where he's taking the fight on.

Latorre raised to 140,000 from the cutoff but tank folded after Rosales three-bet to 375,000.

Two hands later, Latorre raised to 130,000 and Rosales was the only caller to a [9h][qd][2d] flop. Both players checked to the [6c] turn where Rosales bet 240,000. Latorre check-called and both went back to checking on the [kd] river.

Rosales opened [8c][7c] and lost out to Latorre's [js][9s]. -- MC

12:45pm: Juan Bautista eliminated in eighth place (€14,100)
There was no miracle comeback for Juan Bautista and he's the first casualty of today's final table.

He had 60,000 of his 115,000 already invested in the big blind, so after Jose Angel Latorre had opened to 130,000 from early position and David Vedral had called on the button, the Spaniard moved the rest of his meagre stack over the line. The majority of the chips were in the main pot but there was a 30,000 chip side pot.

Both Vedral and Latorre checked all the way down to the river of a [8c][Qd][Ts][Qc][7s] board at which point Latorre bet 150,000. Whilst Vedral was tanking, Bautista got to his feet and put his coat on, we didn't know his holding yet but he certainly believed it wasn't going to be good enough to beat whatever Latorre had. And so it proved, Vedral folded, Latorre opened [Ac][9h] and ace high was good as Bautista had [3s][2c].

Seven remain, all of whom are guaranteed at least €20,100. -- NW

12:25pm: Early double for Grafton
Watch out final table players as Sam Grafton has a stack to play with now after a lucky double up.

On the third hand of the day, he moved all in for 970,000 after Juan Bautista had limped in and Rodrigo Rosales had limped behind. Bautista called quickly and that scared off Rosales.

Grafton: [2s][2d]
Bautista: [qd][qs]

The board ran [2h][9s][ks][5c][ts] to make the PokerStars qualifier a set.

"You got me there, Juan," said Grafton to his opponent who dropped to fewer than 200,000.

Bautista had already been in, and lost, the first two (small) pots of the day before that. Not a good start at all for the charismatic Spaniard. -- MC

12:15pm: Jose Angel Latorre leads final eight
Hello and welcome to the final table of the UKIPT5 Marbella Main Event. Just eight remain in the hunt for the title. The man looking most likely to take the title right now is Jose Angel Latorre, the Spaniard, who is a Supernova Elite on PokerStars has more than double his nearest rival.

The final eight

What a week it's been! The PokerStars Marbella festival - a joint collaboration between the ESPT and UKIPT - was back for its third edition this past week and proved more popular than ever with most tournaments beating previous attendance records. The Main Event attracted a record 841 players and at 12:15pm CET on Sunday, the final eight took their seats with dreams of a €150,800 payday still intact.

The final table was a tale of two halves. It took only slightly less than four hours to get down to heads up and about the same time again for a winner to be crowned. It looked as if the day would be over in record time and then it looked as if the heads up battle might go on for a record amount of time.

UKIPT5_Marbella_winner_Isidoro_Barrena.jpg

Isidoro Barreña - champion

Isidoro Barreña and Jose Angel Latorre were the last two standing and the latter had a three-to-one chips lead after dominating the final up until that point. We say up until that point because Barreña became a different beast when faced with only one opponent. Multi-way he looked unsure and nervously handled his chips; heads-up he looked decisive and in control.

Thumbnail image for Ukipt5_marbella_main_event_day4_heads_up.jpg

Just before head up play began

It helped that at the start of their duel he made hands and had Latorre consistently betting in to him - an aggressive tactic that had served him so well thus far - and before he knew it, Barreña had a near six-to-one advantage. Latorre stayed calm though and fought his way back to evens. The players kept trading the lead as the increased blind levels made the swings larger. Barreña had around a four big blind advantage when the final hand of the tournament came about. He four-bet all in with ace-queen and Latorre called off with ace-jack. A queen fell on the turn and it was all over.

Ukipt5_marbella_main_event_day4_jose_angel_latorre.jpg

Jose Angel Latorre - 2nd place

Let's take the action right back to the beginning of the day where Latorre entered with more than 25% of the chips in play and double that of his nearest competitor. He's known by many as the best Sit and Go player in Spain and that meant he was at home and knew what strategy to employ. He pressurised his opponents from the off and sucked up as many chips as he could.

The first player to put their tournament at risk was PokerStars qualifier Sam Grafton. He shoved with deuces over a couple of limps but Juan Bautista had trickily limped with queens and made the call. Fate can be cruel though and a deuce appeared on the flop to crush Bautista and his stack and he busted to Latorre shortly after.

UKIPT5_Marbella_final_Juan_Bautista.jpg

Juan Bautista - 8th place

UKIPT5_Marbella_final_Jeffrey_Brouwer.jpg

Jeffrey Brouwer - 7th place

That was good news for Jeffrey Brouwer who came into today with the only sub one-million stack and would've been looking to ladder as high as possible. He earned an extra €6,000 by surviving until seventh. He shoved with ace-eight but ran into Latorre's ace-queen that went on to make a dominating two pair.

Latorre's charge was in full-flow by that point and none of his opponents had an answer as the Supernova Elite gathered half the chips in play into his welcoming arms. It was surprising then that didn't have a hand in the third exit of the day.

UKIPT5_Marbella_final_Sam_Grafton.jpg

Sam Grafton - 6th pace

Grafton had fewer than 12 big blinds when he shoved from the small blind with queen-five. The Brit then had to suffer while Barreña took several minutes to call with king-nine and then when a couple of his tablemates over-celebrated the sight of a king flopping to send him on his way.

The unassuming David Vedral was soon behind Grafton at the payout desk after he ran ace-ten into Latorre's pocket aces after three-betting all in. Rodrigo Rosales was also involved in the hand but (wisely) folded the on the turn. That meant an all-Spanish final four but Latorre was in no mood to play friendly. He went into overdrive winning almost every pot en route to owning 75% of the chips in play.

Ukipt5_marbella_main_event_day4_david_vedral.jpg

David Vedral - 5th place

It was going to take one of the other three players finding big hands to make them risk their tournament lives, and that's exactly what happened. Dario Carrion found pocket queens under-the-gun and moved all in; Barreña looked down at ace-jack in the big blind, made the call, and went on to make a full house.

UKIPT5_Marbella_final_Dario_Carrion.jpg

Dario Carrion - 4th place

Rodrigo Rosales was probably the best-supported player at the final table today and his support carried him to a third-pace finish after a swingy day. The man who hails from Burgos, and is a barrow boy by trade, finally succumbed to Barreña after he three-bet all in to his ace-jack whilst holding ace-five. The €64,600 he earned was, by far, the biggest he'd ever won at the poker table and we're sure he and his supportive girlfriend will spend it wisely (or not).

UKIPT5_Marbella_Rodrigo_Rosales_final.jpg

Rodrigo Rosales - 3rd place

Below is a reminder of how much everyone won at today's final table. While they took the lion's share of the prize pool, 128 players shared €807,360. For a full breakdown, please click here.

all-in-kitchen_20july15.jpgShuffle up and eat

Let's face it you can't really go wrong when you combine poker with food, which is why PokerStars are bringing back the All-In Kitchen ahead of the UKIPT's return to Bristol later this month.

To celebrate the arrival of the 2015 UKIPT, PokerStars is teaming up with Tapas restaurant Pata Negra to recreate the world first "pay by poker" restaurant, which proved enormously popular when it appeared in London last Season when a ticket sold every three seconds. And did we mention that the food was excellent?

You'll find Pata Negra on Clare Street, Bristol, with the All-In Kitchen running from 27-29 July. And if you're not sure what all the fuss is about allow us to explain how it works.

PokerInThe City-Infographic-final.png

Basically you get a chance to eat a fabulous three course meal for free, determined by your performance over three hands of poker. Win and you eat for free. Come second and you get a £10 discount, meaning you pay just £8. If you finish third you'll get a five pound discount, and pay just £13. That said even if you end up paying the full price you're getting great value on some delicious food.

So what exactly will you get to eat?

The mouth-watering partnership also sees Pata Negra curate a poker-themed menu. The gourmet feast includes: 'Big Blind Iberico Meats', 'Three Of A Kind Sweet Pepper, Courgette And Aubergine Skewer With Romesco Sauce' and 'The Pot - Dark Chocolate With Olive And Rosemary Shortbread'.

Nathan Lee, Founder of Pata Negra, said: "Collaborating with PokerStars to bring the world's first 'pay-by-poker' restaurant to Bristol is a really exciting prospect. We're looking forward to serving up a unique offering and seeing guests go all in to experience something completely new."

It's a good reason to get to Bristol early, ahead of the UKIP which runs August 6-9. The nation's biggest poker tournament will arrive at The Rainbow Casino, having already visited London, Nottingham and Marbella this year. The tour will then continue on to the Scottish and Irish capitals of Edinburgh and Dublin.

UKIPT5 Bristol Day 1A: Level 1-5 updates (200/400 ante 50)

$

0

4:05pm: Break time
The players are taking a 15-minute break. Updates will continue in a new post, once they return.

4pm: Doubling through the ladies
Indre Stanaityte and Sheila Palmer were both cruising with big stacks but their good starts have been clipped back a little after both doubled up opponents.

Stanaityte and Adam Pikett took to a [kd][5h][ts] flop where the chips went flying in. Pikett, the all in player with 18950, had the goods with [5c][5d] for a set. Stanaityte opened [ad][kc] and paid her opponent after the board ran out [8c][6d].

Seconds later, Ryan Spittles was all in for 17,950 on a [5c][2d][9h] flop, and was called by Sheila Palmer who opened [as][9s]. It was no good though as Spittles held [js][jh]. The board ran out [4h][7h]. -- MC

3:45pm: Cooler table gets colder
A short time ago (see 2:50pm post) Lawrence Bayley christened the table that James Atkin, Dara O'Kearney and himself are sat at as 'the cooler table' as Atkin won a big pot with the nuts against the second nuts.

Well, Atkin has been at it again, eliminating Stephen Broughton when another cold deck went in his favour. Thepre-flop action is unknown but four players still had cards in front of them as the [7d][4d][3s] flop hit the felt. Broughton (small blind) led for 3,500 and Atkin (button) was the only caller. Both players checked the [3c] turn and the [Kc] completed the board. After a couple of seconds Broughton shoved for his remaining 9,100 and Atkin snap called, showing [Kd][Kh] for a rivered full house, Broughton showed [7c][7h] for a hand that was winning all the way to the river and indeed had been two outered.

As the dealer prepared the deck for the next hand Atkin said: "I considered folding on the flop as it's a weird spot to lead without it." -- NW

3:35pm: From Los Angeles to Bristol for Aronson
Gerald Aronson landed at London Heathrow this morning and came straight down to play this event. He flew all the way from Los Angeles specifically to play here.

When asked why, he replied, "Never been here before, seems like a nice city too!"

He's sat next to Gary Clarke and the Irishman inquired about the gold bracelet-looking watch he's wearing.

"It's 55-years old," came the answer. "I have to wind it every day, but I like that and you know why?" Clarke shakes his head. "Because I know I'm still alive!"

"I won it in a card game too!" continued Aronson, who's sat behind 23,600 chips, for a little extra information. -- MC

LEVEL UP: BLINDS 200-400, ante 50

3:15pm: A numbers game
There's not long to go until late registration ends and the tournament board is showing that 136 players have entered today and 125 remain. We'll bring you a confirmation of the final number of runners when late registration closes shortly. --NW

3:05pm: Rees and others fall
Jonathan Rees informed the PokerStars Blog he busted when he moved all in on a [jx][7x][6x] flop with pocket sixes for a set. His opponent held pocket jacks for a bigger set though. Ouch.

He has company in the form of: Peng Wang, Andrew Rogers, Alvaro San Jose, Steve Patchett, Francesco Bigetti, Antonio Gonzalez, Oscar Iscala and Cuong Hung Nguyen. -- MC

2:50pm: Lots of chips on this Atkin diet
James Aktin has around 56,000 chips after his nut flush was best against Munaaf Ghumran's second nut flush.

Around 16,000 sat in the middle by the river, with the board reading [6h][td][kh][4h][5c]. Ghumran led for 7,200 and called off his remaining 10,975 after Aktin set him in.

The latter opened [ah][2h], beating out the former's [qh][th].

"Cooler table!" commented Lawrence Bayley.

UKIPT5_Bristol_James_Atkin.jpg

Aktin off to a flier

2:35pm: Chip counts
As level three gets under way here are a few counts containing names, notables and big stacks, it's Kuljinder Sidhu, who finished seventh at UKIPT5 Nottingham, who currently leads.

Kuljinder Sidhu, 57,000
Remigiusz Wyrzykiewicz, 48,000
Ben Martin, 37,000
Richard Jones, 30,000
David Clarkson, 29,000
Neil Raine, 27,000
Fraser Macintyre, 24,000
Dara O'Kearney, 22,500
Ryan Spittles, 19,900
Phil Huxley, 19,000
Gary Clarke, 11,200
Jonathan Rees, 9,500

We'll be updating the chip count page throughout the day, whilst it won't have the stacks of every player it will contain the big stacks and big names.

LEVEL UP: BLINDS 150-300 ante 25

2:18pm: Break time
Three levels have passed, time for a 15-minute break.

2:12pm: Martin still flush with chips
Ben Martin still has 44,000 chips despite losing a 7,800-chip pot to Wei Yan in a battle of the blinds.

All the chips made it in the middle before the turn and river were checked down. The final board read [2c][8c][jh][2s][jc] and Martin opened [ac][ks], losing out to Yan's [kc][7c] for a flush. -- MC

2:05pm: Sharks swimming in to town
James Atkin, Fraser MacIntyre and Ryan Spittles have all taken their seats during Level 3.

Atkin has taken a seat to the right of Dara O'Kearney; MacIntyre was welcomed by Jonathan Rees and Spittles was still wondering through the room in search of his table.

Sin Melin was also seen in the casino but she confirmed she will be playing tomorrow. -- MC

1:50pm: Chips for Carter
Ordinarily Dan Carter wouldn't have had far to travel to this tournament as he's a Cheltenham lad, but he's currently spending a lot of time in Holland so had to hop on a plane to get here. The lack of home advantage doesn't seem to have affected him though as he's already up to 35,000. -- NW

1:40pm: Bayley very happy
Lawrence Bayley is making a rare live appearance today and he'll be hoping it goes as well as the last one did. The SuperNova Elite, who plays at PokerStars under the moniker "bigstealer", final tabled UKIPT5 London back in January, finishing fourth for £31,000. "This is my second and last live tournament of the year," he told the PokerStars Blog with a grin.

Perhaps it's the rarity of his live appearances but, Bayley's demeanour and 'default setting' whilst playing poker is happy and chatty and the fact that he was grinning shortly after losing a four-way pot is testament to that.

Ukipt5_bristol_main_event_day1a_lawrence_bayley.jpg

Lawrence 'bigstealer' Bayley

In the hand in question it was Bayley who started the action, raising to 500 from under-the-gun+1, he picked up calls from Stephen Broughton (hijack) and Mark Wates (cut-off) only for Dara O'Kearney to raise to 1,600 from the button. After both blinds folded Bayley asked to see O'Kearney's chips before he made the call and Broughton and Wates also called to create a four-way dance.

The [4s][3d][Js] flop was tentatively checked through, no one wanted to bet the [2s] turn either and the [Td] completed the board. First to act Bayley led for 3,500 and Broughton was the only caller, Bayley showed [Ah][Jh], but Broughton had flopped a set of threes. "Happy not to have lost more there," said Bayley after the hand, who also told us that the reason he's here playing in Bristol is that a couple of his friends (Conor Beresford and Marc Radgen) also wanted to play this event. Despite that dent Bayley is off to a good start as he's up to 39,000 -- NW

1:35pm: Bristol parking, huh!
Chris Gordon, who's already cashed twice in Season 5 on the UKIPT, has finally taken his seat after some parking issues:

1:20pm: Lappin and Nealon run for the hills
Folding is actually the most profitable move in poker. If one played every hand, one would soon go broke. David Lappin and Fergal Nealon probably won't be feeling "in profit" after leaving chips in the middle.

Lappin opened to 375 from early position and was called by both blinds. The flop fell [8d][ah][jh] and Lappin's 425 c-bet was only check-called by Steve Patchett in the small blind. The turn was the [qd] and Patchett led for 1,100 which prompted Lappin to immediately fold.

UKIPT5_Bristol_Fergal_Nealon.jpg

Nealon's bluff game off in this hand

A few minutes later, Nealon and two opponents took to a [kc][ac][6d] flop. The action checked to Nealon on the button and he bet 200 (into 525). The small blind folded but David Newman check-raised up 700. Call. The turn was the [qd] and Nealon called another 800.

The board completed with the [ts] and Newman checked over to Nealon who bet 2,700. Newman took his time, called, and took the pot as Nealon mucked his hand. -- MC

1:05pm: Man down
It's never nice to bust a poker tournament and it's always nasty when you're the first one to do so. That walk of shame today belonged to Jeremy Pantin who lost out to Tri Vu in a huge pot towards the end of the first level.

We didn't catch the hand live but our thanks to Jonathan Rees who told the PokerStars Blog what happened and it was one of those blind on blind battles that escalated until all the chips were in the middle. It was Pantin who had position and he three-bet to 750 from the big blind after Vu had raised from the small, call from Vu.

The flop was [2x][3x][7x] with two diamonds, Vu checked, Pantin bet 1,000, Vu check-raised to 3,500 and Pantin smooth called to create a chunky 8,500 chip pot by the time the [3s] fell on the turn. Vu continued his aggression betting 5,500 but Pantin went nowhere as he stuck around to see the river. As Rees told it, before the fifth and final community card came down, which was the [As], Vu shoved dark, although Rees described it as 'semi dark' suggesting that the ace might have been on the table as Vu shoved.

His actions sent Pantin deep into the tank, "he eventually called it off with Jacks," said Rees, Vu though had rivered two pair with [Ax][7x] to take the pot and the first scalp of the tournament. -- NW

LEVEL UP: BLINDS 75-150

12:45pm: The Irish double act are in town
Dara O'Kearney and his sidekick, David Lappin, have arrived and taken their seats.

O'Kearney always seems to be referred to as PokerStars Online Qualifier of the Season, a title he won last season (4), but 2015 is turning out to be a breakout year in the live arena for the Irishman. Over the summer in Las Vegas, he notched up a career-high score of $262,502 with a runner-up finish in a $1,500 bracelet event and will be hoping to bring that form back to Europe.

Lappin avoided the WSOP and took a leaf out of his pal's book by causing havoc in the UKIPT online satellites:

-- MC

12:30pm: Taxi to Bristol
We often talk of the UKIPT being a breeding ground for bigger tours such as the EPT (see, Silver, Max) but it should also be noted that the UKIPT Series, which carries a buy-in of £250, is in its own way a satellite tour for the UKIPT proper.

One such player who's had success in those events and the equivalent 'Classics' that PokerStars LIVE! at The Hippodrome Casino is Stuart Green. The London based player has made back to back final tables there. He left his bid to play here late, very late in fact, as he snagged a seat in a satellite just last night.

He's playing today and such was the success of last night's satellites, which were planned to be the last, PokerStars has decided to run one more online satellite, it's a £100 freezeout and it starts at 21.00 BST. -- NW

12:20pm: Who's about?
The answer is not that many right now. Ten tables are currently in use but that number will grow as players file in during the day. Poker players have never been known for their punctuality!

Top marks then for Gary Clarke, Ben Martin, Dan Carter and Jonathan Rees who were all here when the register was called by sir (Luca Vivaldi). -- MC

Cards are in the air for Day 1A!

11:50am: Back in Bristol
The UKIPT is back in Bristol after a two and a half year absence. The last time we were here was in November 2012 and whilst Barack Obama was busy getting re-elected, Wojtek Barzantny was scoring his own double as the German player took down two UKIPT titles in a week. First he defeated end of level boss Chris Moorman to claim the UKIPT Online title and then he blasted his way through a field of 550 to win the Main Event.

Since then he's only had one further UKIPT cash, to be fair he hasn't played many of them, but we have it on good authority that he's heading back here to defend his title this week. Everyone else might as well not bother then right? Well thankfully this game we love has a habit of being predictably unpredictable, so whilst we don't know exactly what's in store over the next four days we at least know that it should be entertaining.

Play today is scheduled to start at 12pm and finish around 10.30pm. Welcome back Bristol.

The latter opened to 2,000 and then reluctantly called all in for 26,900 after Bayley set him in.

Bayley: [qc][qd]
Atkins: [8s][8d]

The board ran [9h][8c][7d][jh][ks] to make Atkins a set. -- MC

10pm: Gone
It's hard lines for: Martin Hogarty, James Pierce, Daniel Perez, Michal Janczarski, Indre Stanaityte, Robert Stevens, Ralph Silva, Darren Toner, Tomas Tamasauskas, Daniel Efeturk, Geoffrey Ansell and Francisco Benitez who are all out of UKIPT5 Bristol. 51 players remain. --NW

9:55pm: Miller busts in three-way all in
Sam Miller had a live card in a three-way all in and hit it but it wasn't enough to stop him being eliminated.

Chris Day opened to 3,600 from under the gun before Miller moved all in for 18,100 from the next seat and Conor Beresford, from two more seats along, did likewise for another 600. Day, feeling priced in, made the call.

Day: [kh][qc]
Miller: [ad][js]
Beresford: [as][ks]

The board ran [8h][th][kd][5s][jc] to triple up Beresford.

Miller departed and Day dropped to 42,000. -- MC

9:40pm: Spittles makes a deal
Ryan Spittles has had some past success on the UKIPT, most notably finishing fifth at UKIPT4 Nottingham in May 2014. He's run his stack up in the last level or so and is sat in the ten seat at his table. So, when there was a dealer change he couldn't help but engage in some friendly banter: "Me and the old dealer had a good thing going," he began. "Basically I get the winning hand, just so you know!"

Spittles the dealer and a couple of players at the table had a good chuckle at this, Spittles has around 104,000 and is well placed right now. -- NW

9:35pm: Flop frustrates Atkin but boosts Bilal
Bilal Sahnoune just got a much needed double up at the expense of James Atkin and it left the latter more than a little frustrated with how the day is panning out.

In the hand in question the action folded all the way to the button where Lawrence Bayley raised to 3,200, Sahnoune then shoved for 25,100 total and Atkin isolated all-in from the big blind for around 45,000 and Bayley mucked his hand.

Sahnoune: [Ac][10h]
Atkin: [Kc][Qd]

The [8c][7h][As] flop gave Sahnoune a big advantage and he held on the [4d] turn and [6s] river. After that hand Atkin is down to around 20,000. -- NW

9:32pm: A hand to keep Aronson up all night
"I think I threw away the best hand," said Gerald Aronson after he folded on the turn to an aggressive Benjamin Winsor.

Ryan Spittles opened to 2,500 from under the gun before Winsor three-bet to 6,800 from middle position. Aronson called from the small blind and Spittles called as well. The flop came [4d][6h][6c] and Winsor continued for 10,400 and was only called by Aronson. The turn was the [jh] and Aronson check-tank-folded to a 17,000 bet from his opponent.

"It was all in or fold and I didn't want to go home," continued Aronson. "Jesus Christ, that'll be the hand I think about all night," he went on.

"I'll tell you afterwards," assured Winsor.

Winsor - 105,000
Aronson - 60,000

LEVEL UP: BLINDS 800/1,600, ante 200

9:15pm: Chip counts
Just 63 players remain in with a chance of making Day 2, the money and heck, even the final table. Here's how some of them stack up as we approach the end of level 10:

Crispin Da Costa, 180,000
Lawrence Bayley, 140,000
David Clarkson, 103,000
Neil Raine, 98,000
Remigiusz Wyrzykiewicz, 74,000
Gerald Aronson, 63,000
James Atkin, 57,000
Tri Vu, 47,000
Dan Carter, 46,000
Paul Vas Nunes, 33,000
Richard Jones, 32,000
Francisco Benitez, 31,000
Stuart Green 30,000

9pm: Shoving his way out of the shadows
David Lappin - tired of being on Dara O'Kearney's shadow - has gotten to the point in the tournament where shoving (some hands) is an optimal move.

He quietly limped in from under the gun before an opponent in the hijack raised to 3,200. Ryan Spittles looked like he was going to do something from the small blind but ultimately folded with a look of suspicion on his face. He was right to look that way as Lappin shoved when the action got back to him. The move worked as he took down the pot.

The very next hand, he defended his big blind after an early position raise from Marios Photiou. The flop fanned [jh][7s][jc] and Lappin check-called a 3,100 c-bet. The board ran out [kd][8d] and both players checked in down.

"I have a seven," said a sheepish looking Lappin. It was no good as Photiou opened a winning [ts][td].

Lappin - 36,000.
-- MC

8:45pm: Miller time for Patten
John Patten just got a double up at the expense of Sam Miller in a pot that looked as if it was going nowhere for the majority of it.

It was Tri Vu who got the action started, raising to 2,400 from early position, both Miller (small blind) and Patten (big blind) called and the three players were greeted with a [Ad][Kh][8d] flop, which was checked through. On the [8h] turn Miller bet 3,000 and Patten was the only caller.
It was on the [3c] river were the pot really came to life as when Miller checked, Patten moved all-in for 12,200 total. Miller, who was getting a massage at the time looked pained (no reflection on the masseuses skills!) and after about 30 seconds in the tank before calling. Patten showed [Jh][8c] and Miller nodded before mucking his cards. -- NW

LEVEL UP: BLINDS 600/1,200, ante 200

8:20pm: Break time
The players are on their last 15-minute break of the day.

8:15pm: Less than half the field remain
As the players head to their last break of the evening just 67 of the 140 players who entered today remain. Among those who've hit the rail recently are: Ben Dunevein, Timothy Bryant, Steve Penfold, Jarbas Sabatini, Arkadiusz Sikorski, Nigel Baker, Tommy Lipponen, Dominic Evans, Samuel Marchant, Sheila Palmer, Sheila Palmer, Christopher Dash, Daniel Harwood, Maurizio Pili, Lee Williams, Fabian Feldfeber, Kin Wong, Benjamin Martin, Paul Dando, Dominic McEvoy and Phillip Huxley. -- NW

8:05pm: MacIntyre and Doke depart
Fraser MacIntyre and Dara O'Kearney have both busted in recent times.

No details on O'Kearney's exit but MacIntyre told the blog that he lost a standard flip. The defeat left him with one ante and he had a sweat the next hand - when he was automatically all in - but kicker issues sent him to the rail (bar). -- MC

There was no return of the Mac

7:50pm: All action on table 1
Chris Gordon rushed back from dinner at Pizza Express to make sure he didn't miss a hand according to table mate Chris Day, a move he's probably regretting now. According to Day and Neil Raine, he ran queens into aces the very first hand back. That dropped him down to 5,000 and he busted soon after.

Raine, on the other hand, has passed the 60,000-mark after a preflop raising war with EPT Malta finalist, Remigiusz Wyrzykiewicz.

Raine opened to 1,700 from the hijack before Wyrzykiewicz three-bet to 5,100 from the small blind. Raine came back with a four-bet to 9,200 but his Polish opponent soon put in a five-bet to 17,500. Raine shoved and Wyrzykiewicz admitted defeat and folded. -- MC

LEVEL UP: BLINDS 500/1,000, ante 100

7:35pm: Double up for Hallworth
After a raise to 1,800 from Francisco Benitez it folded to Rob Hallworth who moved all-in for 9,500 total and it folded back to Benitez. The Uruguayan took his time - good news for Hallworth - before eventually making the call:

Hallworth: [7c][7s]
Benitez: [Ks][5s]

The [5c][4c][2d][2h][9c] board saw Hallworth's hand hold up. -- NW

7:30pm: Vas Nunes gets the double he needs
With over $1,400,000 in lifetime tournament earnings, accrued since 2010, it's fair to say Paul Vas Nunes is one of the more experienced players in the field.

He wasn't exactly in the danger zone but had a below average stack to start the hand which led to his double up. In the hand in question there was an open to 2,000, Paul Oliver flat called and Vas Nunes then raised it up to 6,000 on the button from his stack of roughly 27,000. The original raiser folded but Oliver paid the extra and the two players saw a [9c][9s][3c] flop.

The action was checked to Vas Nunes who slid out a bet of 6,000, Oliver check raised all-in and Vas Nunes said: "You can't always have it," before calling all-in for 20,600 total and turning over [As][Kc]. "I thought you'd fold that hand," said Oliver who showed [Ad][Jd]. The [6d] turn and [Ks] turn kept Vas Nunes in the lead and he's up to around 57,000 as a result. --NW

7:20pm: Clarke dogged out
Garry Clarke got up to make his exit and he explained his bustout while a laughing David Lappin watched on.

"I got dogged!" he said. "I had the six-nine and they had the six-king. They hit a king on the river! It was for 5k" -- MC

Ukipt5_bristol_main_event_day1a_gary_clarke.jpg

Clarke couldn't connect and is out

7:05pm: Big stacks, big tank but a big fold?
The PokerStars Blog arrived at the table to see a complete board of [7s][Ah][4s][7c][3d] on the felt. Lawrence Bayley, who was playing a stack of around 115,000, had bet 6,000 on the river and James Atkin, had raised to 16,500.

Bayley was deep in the tank, so much so that the clock was called on him and a member of the floor staff gave him the customary spiel that he had one minute to make a decision or his hand would be dead.
The clock ticked all the way down to around eight seconds before Bayley elected to fold. "I really want to know what you had," said Bayley. "What do you do if I shove?" he added. Atkin stayed quiet and is now up to around 88,000. With the average at a smidgen over 40,000, Bayley looks to be chip leader whilst Atkin is chugging along nicely too. -- NW

6:50pm: Cards back in the air
Chris Gordon, for one, will be happy about that:

5:45pm: Dinner break
The players are now on a 60 minute dinner break. 99 of the 140 players who entered Day 1A have chips to come back to. -- NW

5:43pm: The Price is wrong for Oliver
Oliver Price registered late and hasn't made it to dinner break after he busted in a three-way all in versus Daniel Perez and Yiannis Liperis.

Price: [as][qc]
Perez: [ac][ks]
Liperis: [kh][jh]

Perez had both players covered and a dominating hand but the board ran [4h][7d][8h][5d][js] to pair up Liperis on the river. -- MC

5:40pm: Exits
There's no easy way to say this but: Joseph Craig, David Harris, Thomas Wiesner, Mark Goodchild, Lee Connett, Ian Holwill, Alexander Regler, Simon Dunevein, Daniel Smith, James Buck, Neil Gittings, Frank Yenicotchian, Yassen Jotev, Mark Giddy, Hui Jin, Kuljinder Sidhu and William Jones are all out.
Poker can be a brutal game and Sidhu has gone from the penthouse to the outhouse in short order. -- NW

5:30pm: Could've got messy for Day
Remigiusz Wyrzykiewicz opened to 1,400 and picked up three callers en route to a [8c][7d][8h] flop.

He continued for 2,700 and was called by Christopher Day and Richard Jones in the next two seats. The turn was the [ts] and the action checked to Jones who bet 6,000. Only Day called and both players checked the [tc][river.

Day opened [jh][jc] and said, "I wasn't expecting that!" when Jones opened [qd][qh]. Day dropped to 42,000 whereas Jones rose to around 70,000. -- MC

5:20pm: Gordon can't shake off Wyrzykiewicz
Two players who both went deep at UKIPT5 Nottingham just played a big pot together as Chris Gordon and Remigiusz 'ctrl+c' Wyrzykiewicz just tangled on table one.
It was Gordon who opened the action, making it 1,400 to go from middle position, the button called and Wyrzykiewicz did likewise from the small blind.

The board ran [2d][2c][6d][As][Kd] and Gordon bet 2,000, 4,600 and 7,000 on the flop, turn and river respectively with Wyrzykiewicz check/calling all the way. At showdown Gordon showed [3c][3s] but Wyrzykiewicz held [Ac][9d] for the superior hand. --NW

5:10pm: Thomas Piccirilli bounced by Brooks
Sometimes it's just not your day...

Down to just 5,375 Thomas Piccirilli moved all-in for his final 5,375 from early position and picked up a call from Simon Brooks. With [Ah][Ks] Piccirilli would've been hopeful of a flip at worst for his tournament life but Brooks had aces which meant Piccirilli was drawing slim. The [Kd][8c][10c] flop gave him hope but it was extinguished on the [8h] turn and [7s] river.

As he left the table he wore the look of a man who had endured a day of poker where nothing had gone right. - NW

LEVEL UP: BLINDS 300-600, ante 75

5:05pm: Aronson doesn't want to go home
Gerald Aronson and Cameron Sinclair played out a hand with the latter putting the former to the ultimate test.

Around 5,000 had made it into the middle by the turn and the board read [qs][ks][3c][6d]. Sinclair bet 5,1000 from early position and Aronson, who flew in from LA just to play this event, tank called. The river was the [9c] and Aronson checked to face an all in bet, his 20,500, being covered by Sinclair.

UKIPT5_Bristol_Gerald_Aronson.jpg

Aronson having a good time

"Son of a bitch, that's a good bet!" lamented Aronson. "That's probably the best bluffing bet I've seen today."

"I sure as hell don't want to go home as I'm having such a good time," he continued. He then folded saying, "I'll let you buy the pot. It was a good bet at the right time." -- MC

4:50pm: A few more chip counts
Amongst those players to have late registered this event today is Phil Huxley. The tournament and mixed game specialist, who lives in Germany, was previously on a table where the light was really bad but he's since been moved into the main room to a table that it bathed in light and has brought a stack of 21,500 to his new table. He'll be hoping his stack rises in tandem with the amount of light.

Elsewhere David Lappin is up to 54,000 which is good but not as impressive as Stuart Green who has 56,000. They've both got almost double the average stack which currently sits at 29,000. Two players who would love to have the average stack at the moment are Ben Martin and Fraser Macintyre. With 19,000 and 16,000 respectively they've fallen below starting stack. -- NW

4:40pm: Some raises, a squeeze and a double up
It took a while preflop but Robertas Vaitkevicius got his chips and got more than a double up.

Lee Williams opened the pot from the hijack and was called by Vaitkevicius in the small blind before Munaaf Ghumran squeezed to 5,000 from the big blind. Williams called but then Vaitkevicius shoved for 14,050. Ghumran also moved all in for an extra 4,700 and that was enough to make Williams fold his tens.

Vaitkevicius: [9c][9h]
Ghumran: [ah][qh]

The board ran [jh][9d][6c][qd][qs] to make Vaitkevicius a full house. -- MC

4:25pm: Bad read by Bayley?
In Lawrence Bayley's defence he plays a lot of online poker and not much live poker, this is just his second UKIPT appearance. He's sharing a table with Dara O'Kearney and this gem of a moment just occurred.

O'Kearney, who is the SlowDoke that Bayley speaks of, is the reigning UKIPT Online Qualifier of the Year and generally wins more seats to these events than anyone else.

If you needed any example of why O'Kearney is successful at this game of poker, then the above exchange, which was between Bayley and James Atkin, illustrates why. O'Kearney didn't flinch, blink or allow himself a wry smile and simply kept his poker face on. Wouldn't it be delicious if Bayley knew exactly who O'Kearney was and was simply trying to level his Irish opponent! -- NW

4:05pm: Back for more
The players are back in their seats for the sixth level of the day. They'll play levels six and seven before heading on a 60 minute dinner break. Unfortunately, Mike Cummings, Marios Photiou, Keith Christie, Hamish Morjaria, Stephen Broughton, Kyle Hyman, Damien Le Goff, Michael Cowling, Julian Movahed and Ian Gwynne can all take an extended dinner break as they've been eliminated from the tournament. --NW

Javed Ullah topped them all on Day 1A

After a absence of more than two-and-a-half-years the UKIPT packed its bags and headed back to Bristol for the fourth UKIPT stop of Season 5. Fortunately our Sat Nav didn't take us to Bristol, Connecticut and like many poker hopefuls we found ourselves ensconced in the Rainbow Casino today for the start of the UKIPT5 Bristol Main Event.

By the time late registration slammed shut after five levels of action 140 players from as far a field as Romania, Uruguay, USA, China, Vietnam and Trinidad had taken their shots at becoming the next UKIPT Bristol champion. With players from the UK and Ireland accounting for around 80% of the field it's no surprise that it's a player from closer to home who tops the chip counts tonight. Javed Ullah (224,700) was the player who topped them all, pipping local player Leslie Packer (212,700) to lead the 39 players who advanced. Although they were the only players to finish on more than 200,000 they're closely followed by Paul Loughlin (196,700), Chris Brice (181,800), Ben Winsor (175,600) and Ryan Spittles (171,100) who'll all have to arrive early on Day 2 to unbag their chips.

Ukipt5_bristol_main_event_day1a_ryan_spittles.jpg

Spittles ran his stack up in the latter levels of the day

Whilst there were no Red Spades in the field today - Jake Cody and local lad Alex Millar play tomorrow - there were numerous big names who took to the felt on the opening flight all of whom were hoping to make an impression on this tournament. Fortunes were, as you'd expect, mixed, this is tournament poker after all and the Poker Gods care not for reputation. Whilst Dan Carter (43,300), Neil Raine (78,800), David Lappin (20,000), Richard Jones (64,300), Remigiusz Wyrzykiewicz (49,300), Lawrence Bayley (63,500), James Atkin (57,700), Paul Vas Nunes (33,500) and David Clarkson (134,500) all progressed to Day 2 with stacks of varying size, the likes of Kuljinder Sidhu, Fraser Macinture, Dara O'Kearney, Ollie Price, Phil Huxley, Fergal Nealon, Gary Clarke, Chris Gordon, Jonathan Rees and Ben Martin all busted out during today's 12 levels of play.

4:10pm: End of the level
That's the end of level five and the players are now on a 15 minute break. You'll find updates from level six and beyond in a new post shortly. --NW

4:05pm: More exits
Late registration has now close which means the number of players in this tournament can only go one way from now on. It's bad news for fans of: Enzo Del Pero, Efstaphios Inglezos and Joe Laming who are the latest exits. -- NW

3:55pm: Double up for Zermon
David Zermon is back up to around 12,000 after doubling through James Noonan. The Irishman, who currently calls Malta home, opened to 900 and called after Zermon moved all-in for 5,800.

Noonan: [Ad][Qd]
Zermon: [Ts][Td]

A [Ks][3d][8h][Tc][3h] board improved Zermon to a full house and he doubled his stack. -- NW

3:45pm: Dobson races away
Ben Dobson has been eliminated.

According to his table he was down to 4,400 when he made his move with pocket eights. An opponent called with ace-king and flopped an ace. -- MC

3:40pm: Big Sam not happy
Sam Acheampong is not a happy bunny after losing a pot to drop to 4,400.
On the river of a [5h][7s][jh][3c][9c] board he led for 1,700 and called after Neil Van Der Merwe raised to 4,200. The latter opened [3h][3d] for a turned set and Acheampong mucked.

3:30pm: McTaggart tank folds
Paul McTaggart is down to around 9,000 after tank folding the river in a hand against Sergio Cabrera. The latter opened to 800 from middle position and picked up calls from Tomas Geleziunas (hijack) and McTaggart (big blind).

On the [4h][6s][Ts] flop Cabrera c-bet 1,250 and both players called to see the [8d] fall on the turn. This didn't slow Cabrera down, he bet 4,300 and this time only McTaggart stuck around. The [Td] completed the board and McTaggart once again checked it over to Cabrera who didn't take too long before moving all-in.
McTaggart understandably took his time over the decision for his tournament life but eventually he elected to fold and preserve his remaining chips. --NW

LEVEL UP: BLINDS 200/400, ante 50

3:20pm: Saxby double and details of MacDonald's exit
Kelly Saxby was sat behind 4,050 and told the blog, "I flopped a set and he (looks at Luke Warren) made a bigger set with an over pair."

She had a disgruntled look on her face but that soon turned to a smile. Andrew Fleming had opened to 725 and then called after Saxby shoved.

Saxby: [ac][kd]
Fleming: [8d][8s]

The board ran [4d][5c][ks][tc][th] to double her up.

Benjamin Morrison, it turns out, was the player who eliminated Sam MacDonald. He informed the blog that MacDonald five-bet all in with ace-king but ran into Morrison's aces. -- MC

3pm: Geilich doing what Geilich does
Some players are known as 'plodders' meaning they generally have very few fluctuations to their stack during the opening levels of tournaments, it's fair to say that's not a reputation that Ludovic Geilich has.

The Scottish pro is usually one of the most active players at the table and he's already up to 48,000 and just took a small pot from Gerwyn Davies. The pre-flop action is unknown but the two players checked all the way to the river on a [8c][9c][5d][7s][Qh] board after Davies checked for a third time Geilich bet 1,500 and Davies looked him up. Geilich rolled over [Qs][Th] and it was good enough to claim the pot. --NW

2:50pm: Mrs Deadman back above starting stack
Shola Akindele, who married her fiancé Simon Deadman this summer, has got back above starting stack (31k) after making a straight versus Anh-Tuan Hoang.

The flop was out and read [6d][5h][6h]. Akindele (middle position) had 1,250 out on front of her and Hoang (big blind) raised to 3,100. Akindele called and went on to call 3,000 and 5,000 on the [7s][9d] turn and river.

"Six," declared Hoang as he opened [6c][3h]. It was no good though as Akindele opened [8h][8c] for a straight. -- MC

2:40pm: Gone
A few exits to tell you about as: Samurle Grassi, David Robson, Sam MacDonald, Ross Mannion, Mudasser Hussain, Foyzul Hussein, Hassan Hussain and Matthew Stitt are all out. -- NW

2:17pm: Break Time
Have yourselves a 15-minute break everyone.

2:10pm: Big stack for Smallman
It's hard to call all in preflop in the early levels of a UKIPT with anything less than aces. Daniel Smallman did it - with pocket kings for 23,850 - and is glad he did.

He was in a raising war with Hassan Hussain and tanked when shoved on. His call was good though as Hussain opened [ac][kh] and failed to connect on the [2h][8c][3h][jd][jc] board.

Hussain was left with 2,950 and open shoved the very next hand with ace-king again. An opponent called with pocket nines and the board ran [tc][4h][6h][5s][as]. -- MC

1:55pm: Cody slips a little
Jake Cody dropped down to 21,100 after he lost a small pot from the big blind.

He called a min raise to see a [ah][qs][jd] flop that was checked through. Cody led for 500 on the [qh] turn and was called before both players checked the [kc] river. Cody opened [ks][2d] and lost out to his opponent's [ad][3d]. -- MC

Brighton-based Worley-Roberts' stack pointed to her having a bad start before she bet 1,250 on the turn of a [ts][6d][8h][7h] board. He opponent folded and she flashed jack-nine for the nuts. The pot helped her recover to 14,000.

Soon after, Albert Sapiano led for 1,800 into four players with a board reading [qh][jh][8h][kd]. He was called in one spot and then bet another 2,000 on the [2s] river. His opponent raised to 6,400 and immediately mucked when Sapiano called. That meant the latter didn't have to show and he moved up to 42,000. -- MC

1:10pm: Liquid lunch
From his current seat Niall Farrell has a decent view of the Ashes cricket match that's currently taking place at Trent Bridge. Whilst they've just gone for lunch and are probably tucking into cucumber sandwiches right now Farrell was after sustenance of a different kind. "Can we get some drinks to the table?" he asked of a member of staff. "I haven't had one for a while and I'm starting to shake!" -- NW

1pm: Jake and Daniel
Daniel Stacey is one of the latecomers on Day 1B as he's just taken his seat in this tournament. The youngster has already had two deep runs on the UKIPT, finishing 11th at UKIPT4 London and 6th and UKIPT4 Isle of Man.

His chances of making a third deep run suffered a bit of a dent as he's to the direct right of Team PokerStars Pro Jake Cody, which is definitely not the easiest seat in the house. --NW

12:50pm: The 400 club
The tournament clock is showing that 260 players have entered so far on Day 1B that takes the total number of runners to 400 as 140 played yesterday. With late registration open until the start of level five it looks as if Day 1B will have more than double the runners of Day 1A. -- NW

Blinds up: 75/150

12:40pm: John Gale makes his UKIPT Debut
John Gale is playing his first ever UKIPT today and he told the PokerStars blog that he very happy to be here.

Gale's first ever-recorded cash was at the 2005 PCA, which he won for $890,600! That result was no one-off though as he went on to achieve enormous success for the following few years, racking up six more six-figure cashes (including a WSOP bracelet).

Unfortunately for Gale, illness struck him down for a good while and he was forced into the shadows. Thankfully his illness was temporary and he's been able to show in 2015 that class in permanent. He cashed five times over the summer in Las Vegas, including winning his second career bracelet and another $298,290.

A poker resume is not worth the paper it's written on though without a UKIPT cash, so Gale is in Bristol to try and settle that one. -- MC

12:30pm: In for a penny but not in for a pound
The direct buy-in for this event is £770 but thanks to the satellite system there are plenty of players in for far less today. One of those is Marcell Gottshalk and his journey to this tournament is quite remarkable.

He played the six-max side event here on Wednesday night and having busted that went home and found he had some loose change in his PokerStars account. So, he entered a £0.77 UKIPT Bristol satellite feeder and won his way into a £27 re-buy satellite that had at least one seat guaranteed to the Main Event. A few hours later he'd won that as well and had qualified to the Main Event for the princely sum of £0.77. -- NW

Ukipt5_bristol_main_event_day1b_marcell_gottshalk.jpg

A marvellous run for Marcell

12:15pm: Name dropping
Play is split over two rooms here currently in Bristol with most players in the cardroom/River View Suite and around five tables in use in another area, which is to the left of the bar. Rapinder Cheema, who won UKIPT5 London, is one of those players in the secondary area and there are more tables there which aren't in use right now.

There are more familiar faces in the main cardroom, Robbie Bull - another UKIPT London winner - and Mark McCluskey are sharing a table. The former has form here too having finished third when the UKIPT was last in town in 2012. Paul McTaggart walked past McCluskey and said hello as he took his seat at an adjoining table.

Elsewhere you'll find two more UKIPT winners as Duncan McLellan and Brett Angell are playing and there's a slew of players who've made a UKIPT final table but couldn't quite get over the line. They include: Deborah Worley-Roberts, Raj Verma and Luke Perrott. And just to round things off two of the UK's best tournament players - Simon Deadman and Ben Jenkins - are down the far end of the room, albeit at separate tables. --NW

12:05pm: Shuffle up and deal
Play is under way here in Bristol, 180 players are already in their seats. -- NW

11:40am: The hoards arrive for Day 1B
The sun is out and shining in Bristol - and for a city commonly known as Brizzle - that's a big deal. So what better way to spend it than in a windowless casino! There's not many other places we'd rather be though. The sun will always shine another day, good luck finding another UKIPT Bristol to enter this year.

At least double the 140 that played yesterday are expected today with many of the UK and Ireland's top pros expected to be in attendance. A total of 39 players made it through - a high casualty rate due to the twelve 45-minute levels played - and a similar percentage will fall today.

Cards will be in the air at midday and players already seen include double bracelet winner John Gale; newly-married Simon Dedman; top Scots Ludovic Geilich, Dean Huchinson and Niall Farrell; Sin Melin and Team Pros Jake Cody and Alex Millar.

10:55pm: Done for the day
That's it for Day 1B of the UKIPT5 Bristol Main Event. Day 2 starts at noon, a full wrap of today's action is coming right up. --NW

10:42pm: Last four hands y'all
Each table will play four more hands apiece before play concludes for the night. -- MC

10:40pm: Just a third remain
Just 102 players of the 306 who entered today still have chips which means two-thirds of the field has been eliminated. Simon Griffin, Jorge Coello, Brendan Payne, Stanley Otti, Josh Boulton, John Gale, Billy Joe Jones, Tom Devine, Andy Hills and Ciaran Heaney are all recent fallers. -- NW

10:30pm: Van Der Merwe still leads
With about 20 minutes to go in the Neil Van Der Merwe is still the chip leader, he has a stack of around 280,000, which puts him clear of Chi Zhang who has 196,000, whilst Dan Stacey (170,000) is also running up a stack and is now sat to the right of Deborah Worley-Roberts. --NW

10:20pm: Akindele-Deadman at the dobule
Oluwashola Akindele Deadman is still alive in this tournament after outdrawing Oliver Prior in a pot worth about 70,000.

She three-bet shoved with pocket tens but Prior had opened with pocket kings. The [3h][7c][Ts][2c][4d] board favoured her pocket pair and she survived. --NW

10:10pm: Do not advance to Day 2
As the last level of the night gets under way so does a £500 turbo side event. It's possible that some of: Niall Farrell, Frederick Field, Paul Davies, Dean Hutchison, James Noonan and Team Pro Online's Alex Millar may well hop into that as they're out of the Main Event.

10:05pm: Cheap seats still filled
Earlier today we reported on the remarkable satellite success story of Marcell Gottshalk (cliffs: he qualified for £0.77). He's a local lad too and he's still in right now and has a healthy looking stack of 70,000.

There is though at least one player in the field that qualified for less than Gottshalk. We refer to Dara Davey of course. The UKIPT4 Player of the Year's prize was entry and hotel costs to all the Season 5 stops of the UKIPT. The Irishman, who now lives in Malta, is also going well as he's up to 83,000. --NW

9:55pm: Bull busts Brooks
Lee Brooks was down to shrapnel and moved all-in for 1,800 from middle position. It folded to Robbie Bull, who was in the small blind, he raised to 4,000 and Phil Toogood came along for the ride from the big blind.
The flop fell [Kc][5s][7d] and after Bull bet, Toogood folded his hand meaning Bull took the side pot. The UKIPT4 London champion showed [Ad][Td] but it was head of Brooks's [Ac][3h]. The [Ks] turn and [6h] river kept Bull in front and sent Brooks home. --NW

9:48pm: A good innings
More bustouts: Stuart Bayford, Richard Barnes, Paul Zimbler, Adam Kossew, Robert Malvasi, Dario Pourzand, Paul Hardwidge, Bryan Clark, Harry Dukes, Neil Wyatt, Lee Brooks, Javier Fernandez Alonso, Michael Day, Emrah Yildiz, Antoine Saout, Adam Gotch, Tomas Geleziunas, Charlie Godwin and Mick Graydon. -- MC

9:40pm: Henry takes a chunk out of Chiang
The menace at table 1, Jen-Yue Chiang, opened to 2,500 from the cutoff and picked up calls from Niall Farrell and Scott Henry in the blinds.

The flop fanned [jc][jh][7d] and Chiang continued for 2,700. Farrell folded but Henry check-raised to 7,200. Chiang called and then tank folded to a 12,100 bet on the [as] turn.

Chiang - 122,000
Young - 112,000
Farrell - 53,000

9:30pm: Chip counts
As the penultimate level of the night gets under way here's how some of the names, notables and big stacks stand:

Dan Williams, 168,000
Deborah Worley-Roberts, 140,000
Richard Kellet, 112,000

9:10pm: Melin and Saxby
Sin Melin and Kelly Saxby, two of the most regular and popular female players on tour, were both struggling with short stacks. Melin never recovered but Saxby has soared up to 90,000.

"Ten double ups!" she joked with a smile. She then went on to tell the blog of a funny conversation she had with a tablemate where, during a time of table banter, she said she'd move all in the next time she had aces. Then she looked down to see she had been dealt aces the next hand.

Then all sorts of raises and an all in occurred. Saxby shoved big to isolate the all in player and two opponents behind her folded, one said he had kings and the other, who was the one Saxby had been bantering with, said he folded tens. The all in player opened queens and busted after a blank board ran out. The funny part was that the blank board had a ten on it!

Ukipt5_bristol_main_event_day1b_kelly_saxby.jpg

Saxby's stacking chips

9:05pm: No rest for Worley-Roberts
Deborah Worley-Roberts has been at the centre of the action at her table for the past 30 minutes or so and so it proved again as she tangled in a pot against Nik Persaud.

It folded to Persaud on the button and he raised to 2,500 total after the small blind folded, Worley-Roberts, who was in the big blind, said: "You know I'm calling with any old s#@t right?" and let out a laugh. It's fair to assume that her and Persaud - as two long time stalwarts of the London poker scene - have some history.
She put in the calling chips and the two of them saw a [3c][8s][Kc] flop, Persaud bet 2,500 and Worley-Roberts check-called. The [Kd] fell on the turn, Persaud fired again (5,000) and Worley-Roberts once more made the call.

The final community card was the [2c] and both players checked. "Oh man, you were supposed to bet," said Worley-Roberts as she showed [Ac][Qc] for the nut flush. "I had a king," said Persaud to Worley-Roberts whose response, although not printable, politely suggested that she believed Persaud to be lying about that fact. --NW

8:55pm: Yildiz drowns in the river
A loud bang of the table at the end of a hand usually means one of two things, either the player delivering that blow has won a big pot or they've lost it. Sadly for Emrah Yildiz his outburst of emotion was for the latter.
He moved all-in pre-flop with pocket threes and Mick Corrigan put him at risk with [Kd][Js]. The [8d][Qs][4d][As][Td] board meant Corrigan rivered a straight to send Yildiz packing. --NW

8:48pm: They gone
The following players failed to make the last period of play today: Dritan Arapi, Robert Tinnion, Mark Lane, Paul Hardwidge, Vidmantas Jarutis, Mark Sin, Richard Hawes, Valentin Ardeleanu and John Callaghan. -- MC

8:20pm: Neil Van Der Merwe wins huge pot to eliminate Man
Neil Van Der Merwe is up to a mighty 255,000 after winning a huge pot against Chun Man worth almost 200,000.
Pre-flop Van Der Merwe opened from early positon to 2,300, Man three-bet to 5,400 from the hijack, Van Der Merwe four-bet to 12,800 and Man smooth called. On the [7c][7s][2s] flop Van Der Merwe c-bet 12,000 and Man called from a stack of around 85,000.

UKIPT_Bristol_2015_NeilVanDerMerwe_MickeyMay_71894.jpg

Neil Van Der Merwe

So the pot was already a chunky 50,000 by the time the [4h] fell on the turn, Van Der Merwe bet again, this time 25,500 and Man stacked up his chips - which totalled around 63,000 - and moved all-in. After getting a count Van Der Merwe called the extra and showed [Kd][Kc]. He was in front as Man had pocket jacks, which didn't improve on the [Th] river.

That huge pot means Van Der Merwe is now the overwhelming chip leader and has already surpassed the total of Day 1A chip leader Javed Ullah. --NW

8:10pm: Deb's the Destroyer
The PokerStars Blog christened Deborah Worley-Roberts 'Debs the Destroyer' during her deep run at UKIPT3 Cork due to the sheer volume of players that she sent to the rail. She's at it again here in Bristol as she just eliminated players on back to back hands.

In the first she held [As][Kc] and was up against Neil Sillick, who was all-in pre-flop with [Ks][Qh]. The [Qs][2s][Js] flop gave Sillick the lead, but with her monster draw Worley-Roberts was actually the favourite to win the hand. The [Ts] left Sillick drawing to one out and he didn't get there on the [Ah] river.

UKIPT5_Bristol_DeborahWorley-Roberts.jpg

She destroys when she wants

On the very next hand Worley-Roberts raised to 2,600 from under-the-gun and there was a flat call before Mykhaylo Rashkovskiy moved all-in for 15,000 total. It passed back to Worley-Roberts and her shove was enough to make this a heads-up pot.

Worley-Roberts: [As][Ac]
Rashkovskiy: [Ks][Qh]

The [Th][4h][Qd][5c][3h] board saw Worley-Robert's hand hold as she said: "God this game's so much better with chips." She's up to around 67,000 now. -- NW

8:05pm: Three bracelet winners entered, only two survive
Gerald Ringe, John Gale and Alex Lindop were the three British bracelet winners at the WSOP this summer and graced us with their presence here in Bristol.

Ringe played yesterday and made Day 2 with 33,400; Gale and Lindop took their seats today. The former is still in but Lindop just busted.

He was all in preflop for his last 13,000 and up against Irishman Ciaran Heaney.

Heaney: [jc][jd]
Lindop: [4s][4c]

The board ran [8c][th][3s][qs][6s] failing to improve either player. -- MC

7:50pm: All about the money
We've just had the prize pool information through from the tournament bosses and here are the headlines:

- 446 players created a total prize pool of £302,834
- The winner of UKIPT Bristol will receive £58,500
- The top 63 finishers will get paid
- A min-cash is worth £1,350

7:43pm: Dan the man

LEVEL UP: BLINDS 500/1,000, ante 100

7:37pm: Dedusha never misses
Artan Dedusha's stack has passed the 100k-mark after he got lucky to eliminate Dominik Fabjanczuk.

He raised to 3,000 from mid position and then made a quick call after Fabjanczuk moved all in for 16,000 from the big blind.

Fabjanczuk: [kc][kd]
Dedusha: [ad][jd]

The board ran [qh][ks][ts][8c][4h] making Fabjanczuk a set but Dedusha flopped a straight that stayed good. -- MC

7:30pm: Cut by a third
Over 100 players of the 306 players who entered today have now been knocked out. They include: Ben Jenkins, Luke Perrott, Bruce Jones, Terry Jordan, Billy Chattaway, Ludovic Geilich, Raj Verma, Iwan Jones, Mitch Johnson and Caicai Huang. -- NW

7:20pm: Millar clubs opponent
Alex Millar made a flush in a hand and got some value on the river to get up to 34,000.

The board read [9h][tc][kc][qc][9s] and the Team Pro Online led for 3,500 from the big blind. Hak-Hyun Lee was sat under-the-gun and made the call but muck upon seeing [6c][8c]. -- MC

7:10pm: Set hunting
Marc Hunter just got a nice boost to his stack by winning a pot against Michael Thomas. Pre-flop it was Thomas who got things started, raising to 2,000 from under-the-gun+1, Hunter was next to act and bumped the price of poker up to 4,500, Thomas deemed that a fair price to see the next three cards and the dealer fanned a [6c][Ks][3c] flop.
Neither player bet and the [5h] rolled off on the turn, Thomas checked, Hunter bet 2,300 and Thomas called. The [Jd] completed the board and after Thomas had checked again Hunter casually tossed out a single blue 5k chip. This sent Thomas into the tank but he eventually called and saw the bad news when Hunter turned over [Jh][Jc] for a rivered set. --NW

5:52pm: Dinner break
The players are on a one-hour dinner break.

5:50pm: Backhouse sent packing by Sweden
Christopher Backhouse has just been eliminated from this tournament and it's Craig Sweden who got his chips.

In Backhouse's exit hand it folded to him in the small blind and he shoved for around 6,000 (10 big blinds), Sweden looked at his cards and then said: "Oh god, I call," and showed [Ac][8d] he was ahead of Backhouse's [9s][5s] and his hand held on the [Ts][Qc][8c][3h][6d] board. -- NW

5:40pm: Full house good for double knockout
PokerStars Qualifier Neil Van Der Merwe is up to 102,000 after he eliminated two players in one pot.

Lee Mulligan opened to 1,500 before Van Der Merwe three-bet to 4,300. A player in middle position called and Trevor Whiteway moved all in for 6,075 from the small blind. Mulligan folded but the other two players called.

The flop came down [6s][6h][ac] and Van Der Merwe continued for 6,000. His opponent called and then bet 12,000 on the [4c] turn when Van Der Merwe checked to him. Van Der Merwe then asked how much he had behind and after he found out it was only another 6,000, he set him in.

The player called off with [ah][kd] but Van Der Merwe opened [as][ah] for a full house. Whiteway opened [jc][8c] and made a flush on the [9c] river but he and the other player hit the rail. -- MC

5:25pm: Chip leaders
As we approach the dinner break these are the current chip leaders:

Joanne Ramsden - 108,000
Neil Van Der Merwe - 102,000
Sara Spillings - 96,000
Gerwyn Davies - 86,000
Bruce Atkinson - 82,000
Michael Finan - 73,000

5:15pm: Killeen flips out
Kevin Killeen was short on chips and an empty chair where he once sat told its own story. James Noonan - who was sat to the left of Killeen - told the PokerStars Blog that Killeen three-bet all-in with nines and was up against the king-queen or Tim Wright. The flop was the wrong sort for Killeen as it contained both a king and a queen and he didn't catch a nine on the turn or river.

"Holy baloney, she had the lonely!" commented Barry Hamill after he busted to Joanne Ramsden.

The flop read [5s][2s][ks] and Ramsden had 6,000 chips out in front of her. Hamill moved all in for 14,000 and she tank called.

Hamill: [js][ts] for a flopped flush
Ramsden: [as][qh] for the nut flush draw

5:02pm: Alex Goulder: he gone
The talented English pro Tweeted that he had 67 versus AA on an [Ax][6d][7d] flop. He's gotten his stack up to 48,000 before the altercation as well. -- MC

4:55pm: Thompson tumbles out
There was heavy betting action on the turn of a [3d][As][9c][Qs] board and it ended with James Thompson being all-in and David Hartnoll as his would be executioner. When the cards were turned over it was revealed that Thompson had [Ah][3h] for two pair whilst Hartnoll held [Ac][9s] for a superior two pair. It all meant that Thompson had just five outs - three of which were for a chop - and the [Ts] river couldn't save him. --NW

4:45pm: Champions update
There are a number of UKIPT champions in the field today but none of them are looking like making another deep UKIPT run at this stage.
It looks like Rapinder Cheema and Duncan McLellan are both out and all the other champs that in are all below starting stack. Given the respective talents of Ludovic Geilich (23,000), Robbie Bull (19,800), Dean Hutchison (18,600), Brett Angell (7,400) and Kevin Killeen (7,200), you'd back them to turn it around soon. -- NW

4:36pm: Table of death?

Van Der Merwe is clear leader heading into Day 2 of UKIPT Bristol

UKIPT5_Bristol_Neil Van Der Merwe.jpg

An almost perfect day for Van Der Merwe

If B stands for Big then Day 1"B" of UKIPT 5 delivered on that front. A total of 306 players rocked up to the Rainbow Casino today, more than double the 140 that entered yesterday. By the end of 12 levels of play 89 remained and one player - Neil Van Der Merwe (351,200) - stood tallest and will take the overall lead heading into Day 2, where 128 will return.

His remarkable day gathered traction just before the dinner break when, holding pocket aces, he eliminated two players in one fell swoop. A lot of that was thanks to flopping a full house but, even though that was a big pot that helped him pass 100k, it will not be remembered as the hand that defined his day.

Fast-forward two-and-a-half hours and bring Chun Man into the fray. He called Van Der Merwe's preflop four-bet to see a [7c][7s][2s] flop where he called a 12,000 c-bet. The turn was the [4h] and Van Der Merwe bet another 25,500 before calling when Man shoved for 63,000. Both had big pairs but the kings of Van Der Merwe had Man's jacks dominated and it stayed that way on the [th] river.

Other players who'll head into Day 2 with positive vibes after good days include: Dan Williams (224,800), Chi Zhang (207,000), Jen-Yue Chiang (195,400), Pierrick Tallon (191,200), Jiye Zhang (178,300), Kelly Saxby (164,100) and Deborah Worley-Roberts (147,900).

Cody has work to do tomorrow

Registration for the event closed today and the 446 players created a £302,834 prize pool. The players coming back tomorrow will, first of all, have their eyes on making the top 63 and securing a minimum £1,350 payday, but who would blame any one of them thinking about getting their hands on the £58,500 top prize on offer.

Those players who will have to find their fortune elsewhere, like in the many side events on offer this week, include: Kevin Killeen, Niall Farrell, Dean Hutchison, James Noonan, Team Pro Online's Alex Millar, Paul Zimbler, Antoine Saout, Mick Graydon, Sin Melin, Richard Hawes, Alex Lindop, Rhys Jones and Tom Hall. Some talent on that list and all Day 2 players will be pleased to know they can't be drawn at their table tomorrow.

Ukipt5_bristol_main_event_day1b_alex_millar.jpg

Millar might go back to concentrating on his online game

That Day 2 starts tomorrow at noon BST. The plan for the day is to get down to the final table of eight players or ten levels of play, whichever comes first. If we were betting men, which we obviously are, buckle in for the full ten levels.

A happy bunch on players are on their second break of the day. Updates will continue in a new post. -- MC

4:20pm: Shola trips up Nik
Shola Akindele Deadman has a stack approaching 300,000 after making trips versus Nik Persaud.

She bet 17,500 from mid position with a board reading [kh][tc][th][8c]. Persaud check-called from the big blind and did the same on the [qh] river when faced with a 28,500 bet. Akindele Deadman opened [as][ts] and Persaud mucked. -- MC

4:10pm: Connor on the Wright side of the bubble
First man out after the bubble burst was Connor Wright, the PokerStars Qualifier collected £1,350 for his 63rd place finish.

Since then it's been all about double ups. First to taste that sweet sensation was Deborah Worley-Roberts who shoved for 22,500 from under-the-gun with [3h][3s] and Benjamin Morrison gave her a spin with [Ad][Ts].
"Apart from the fours earlier this is the only pair I've seen today," said Worley-Roberts before the dealer fanned a [2s][As][3c] flop. Although Worley-Roberts had spiked a set she still had her head in her hands as the [Ks] turn hit the board to give Morrison a flush draw. "Don't you dare," said Worley-Roberts to the dealer and he didn't as the [4h] completed the board.

Shortly afterwards Alan Brown did hit his backdoor spade flush and he needed to as he'd got it in bad with [As][6s] against Gary Scott's pocket queens. The [4s][9c][Tc]Js][3s] board meant Brown doubled to around 115,000. --NW

4:03pm: David Milby bubbles UKIPT Bristol
It took until the third hand of the bubble period to get an all in, and there were two of them. One player double and one player busted to leave 66 happy players in the tournament room.

Lucas Blanco three-bet all in for 53,000 with [ah][kd] and David Loughlan called after raising to 10,000. He opened a dominated [kh][tc] and the board ran [5h][8d][2c][9d][4h].

Floorman Nick then went over to call the other all in showdown.

UKIPT5_Bristol_bubble.jpg

David Milby (left & in seat 1) bubbles

David Milby had raised to 10,000 and called all in for 81,000 after Chi Zhang shoved on him.

Milby: [kc][kh]
Zhang: [as][ac]

The board ran [9s][4c][8h][qc][tc] missing both players. Zhang actually called for a king as he felt bad for his opponent.

Everyone left is now guaranteed £1,350. -- MC

3:50pm: On the bubble as Hanham busts
The exit of Martin Hanham in 65th place means we're now on the bubble here at UKIPT5 Bristol.

After Peter Hegedus had raised from early position, Hanham moved all-in from the small blind for around six big blinds with pocket tens. When it got back to Hegedus he called the extra off with [Ah][Tc] and spiked on the [8d][Qd][As][7s][7c] board.

There's a shot delay whilst they break a table, but we're now on the stone bubble here in Bristol. --NW

3:45pm: Triple up for Barron
Edward Barron avoided a horrible exit right near the bubble and trebled up in the process. Chances are that given the manner in which it happened he'll remember this hand for some time.

It was Brett Angell who got the action started he min-raised from the hijack, Horrocks shoved for 58,500 from the cut-off, Benjamin Winsor then flat called the shove on the button only for Patrick Horrocks to move all-in from the big blind, which caused the other two players to fold.

Horrocks: [Ah][Ad]
Barron: [As][Th]

A [Jd][3h][Qh][6d][Kc] board meant Barron rivered a straight to survive and more than triple up. --NW

3:38pm: Two bust from table 2
Mark Wates and Richard Jones busted one hand after the other from table 2 to leave 66 left in the Main Event.

Wates defended his big blind after a mid position raise from Lee Mulligan and then moved all in on an [ah][kd][8d] flop holding [ac][jc]. Mulligan called with [kh][8h] and the [ts][3d] turn and river changed nothing. Mulligan moved up to 325,000.

Mulligan raised the next hand to 12,000 before Jones moved all in for 14,000 from the button. Shola Akindele Deadman called from the big blind, as did Mulligan.

The flop fanned [4d][kh][5h] and both players checked. The turn was the [2s] and Akindele Deadman's 11,000 bet got rid of Mulligan. Jones opened [ac][js] but was way behind to Akindele Deadman's [5s][4c] for two pair. Jones needed a three for a straight but the [7c] river failed to provide. -- MC

LEVEL UP: BLINDS 2,500/5,000 ante 500

3.20pm: Down to 69
The bubble is inching ever closer as just 69 players remain. Among those to just miss out on the money are: Angelo Milioto, Vincent Calis, Chris Miller, Chuc Gia Khuu, Luke Calvert, Calogero Morreale, Ben Spragg, Crispin Da Costa, Michal Havavka and Ashley Mullard. -- NW

3:15pm: Zhang trying to play power poker
Chi Zhang must being enjoying life if he can four-bet bet fold 61,000 and still have a stack worth 402,000.

The pot opened with a hijack raise to 9,000 from David Milby and a cutoff three-bet to 33,000 from Joseph Lalor. Zhang was on the button and put his four-bet in. Milby tank-folded but Lalor shoved after tanking as well. Zhang snap folded. Lalor moved up to 270,000. -- MC

3pm: Call from Calis proves costly
Something must have got lost in translation as Vincent Calis, who's from the Netherlands just made what he himself called an 'unbelievable mistake' in a hand against Chris Miller.

The latter moved all-in from under-the-gun+1 for 53,500 and it folded all the way round to Calis in the big blind. He asked the dealer for a count of the shove and the dealer broke the chips down clearly and stated that the shove was for 53,500.

After not much thought Calis called off most of his stack - he'd only started the hand with about 70,000 - and showed [Jh][8h]. Hmm. Miller showed [9h][9c] and held on the [6d][4s][Qh][2d][5s] board.

It was only when the dealer went to collect the requisite number of chips from Calis that he realised what the table had suspected when they saw his cards, that being that he thought he was calling a much smaller shove. Who knows if he thought it was 5,300 or 15,300 but he certainly didn't think it was 53,500 as he couldn't believe it when the dealer took that much from his stack. Miller couldn't believe his good fortune whilst Calis was just left shaking his head at his error. --NW

2:50pm: Cody climbing
Team PokerStars Pro Jake Cody has had a remarkable couple of levels as he's run his stack up for 19,900 to an impressive 185,000. What's more, as a keen Man Utd fan he's had a lot of his attention on the big screens showing them in action against Spurs.

That game has just finished, so who knows what he can do when he focuses all his attention on the poker!
He's just been moved to table two where his new tablemates include UKIPT5 Nottingham third place finisher Richard Jones (60,000) and Oluwashola Akindele Deadman (230,000). --NW

Cody's got chips and his team got three points

2:40pm: Lucky ruling for Morse
Andy Morse lost a pot and dropped to 80,000 chips but it could have been so much worse for him.

He called a turn bet from Simon Turner and faced another 52,000 after the board rested as [3d][jc][ts][qc][tc]. He went to raise but didn't say anything and just slid the chips forward. His attempted raise was one chip short of being legal though so was deemed a call.

Turner opened [9c][8c] for a flush and Morse couldn't beat it and mucked. Turner's stack rose to 266,000. -- MC

2:20pm: End of Days

2:15pm: Exits

1:53pm: Kellett Coolered
Richard Kellet has busted after he got his chips in good, only to be sucked out on by Patrick Horricks.

Horricks and a couple of other players at table 10 explained that an [ax][5x][6x] flop came down and both players got their chips in, Kellett being the all in player with more than 60,000.

Kellet: [5x][5x] for bottom set
Horricks: [as][6s] for top two pair

1:32pm: Cooler flop not Toogood for Phil
Phil Toogood's stack has been decimated down to 5,100 after a set versus straight scenario against Patrick Horrocks.

The flop was out as [4h][3h][7d] and the chips went in. Horrocks was the all in player with 79,300 and he opened [5c][6h]. Toogood held [3c][3s] and failed to fill up on the [9c][qh] turn and river. -- MC

1:25pm: Leaders of the pack
Both end of Day 1 chip leaders were drawn to the same table today and in fact sit just two seats apart. It's Day 1A chip leader Javed Ullah who's fared the better so far today as he's ran his stack up to 275,000, whilst Neil Van Der Merwe is down to 260,000. --NW

1:15pm: Young busts in a strange spot
David Young was just knocked out in a very strange hand at table one.
After an open to 6,000 from Alan Brown there was a three-bet to 21,000 from Jiye Zhang, who was in the one seat and getting a massage at the time. Action was now on Young and he said call, but hadn't seen Zhang's three-bet and thought he was calling the 6,000. Because he'd said the word call, rather than putting out chips, Young was now forced to call the 21,000. He'd only started the hand with around 50,000 so it was a significant portion of his chips.

Action passed back to Brown and he now had a decision, he elected to three-bet to 48,000, Zhang passed and Young said: "It's a horrible way to go out but I can't pass now," he moved all-in and Brown matched the bet. He showed pocket jacks, which were well ahead of Young's threes and it stayed that way on the [Kc][Ah][Kh][6h][8c] board. --NW

12:50pm: Short Day after classic race

12:35pm: Bayley busts
"Aces don't beat tens," said Lawrence Bayley to the PokerStars Blog as he exited the tournament room. He went on to tells us that he was down to nine big blinds at that point as a result of a hero call gone wrong and added. "My exit hand played itself," it was Mike Panteli who had the tens. -- NW

12:30pm: Stonehouse enters the right code to double through Morse
David Stonehouse flopped better than Andy Morse to double to around 106,000.

There had been significant action preflop flop before a [ac][qc][8s] flop appeared. Stonehouse checked to Morse who asked him how much he had. Stonehouse lifted his hands to show he had 34,300 behind.

"All in," announced Morse.

"Call," came the immediate response.

12:20pm: Early double for Cody
Team PokerStars Pro Jake Cody is up to 40,000 after doubling up in the opening orbit against Dan Carter.
The latter opened to 5,000 with pocket threes, the small blind called and Cody then moved all-in from the big blind for around 17,000 with [Ax][7x] and Carter looked him up. The flop was safe for Carter but Cody turned an ace to double up. -- NW

11:50am: It's moving day in Bristol
When play starts at noon they'll be 126 hopefuls all hoping to enhance their chances of winning this tournament and the £58,500 first prize. Come the end of play today there may well only be eight left standing, or more accurately, sitting. The plan today is ten levels or reach the final table of eight, whichever comes first. Chances are reaching the final table will have to wait until Sunday.

One man who'll have his sights set on being here on Sunday is current chip leader Neil Van Der Merwe. The 30-year-old hails from Cambridge and used to work in sales but has called poker his profession for the past four years. He begins the day with a 351,200 which gives him a lead of over 125,000 from Dan Williams (224,900). "I ran really well, had a lot of aces, kings and even quads," he told the PokerStars Blog when play ended yesterday."

Neil Van Der Merwe

Whilst plenty of Day 1 chip leaders have failed to make the money - 63 get paid - Van Der Merwe's huge stack means he's already got an average stack for when just 32 players remain. The likes of Ryan Spittles (171,100), Kelly Saxby (164,100) and David Clarkson (134,500) are well placed to make a run at this, whilst Team PokerStars Pro Jake Cody (19,900), David Lappin (20,000) and Gareth Chantler (21,200) are among those who've got work to do.

You can see the full overnight chip counts here and the start of Day 2 seat draw here. Play is set to start at noon.

12:10am: Shola Akindele Deadman eliminated in 12th place (£3,970)
On the very last hand of the night Shola Akindele Deadman busted at the hands of Joseph Lalor in a big pot.

She raised from the button to 40,000 and Lalor smooth called from the small blind. The two of them saw a [2c][2s][5h] flop and this is where the fireworks happened.

Lalor checked to Akindele Deadman who c-bet 45,000, Lalor check-raised to 200,000 starring at Akindele Deadman as he said the words raise. After some thought she responded by moving all-in for around 615,000 and after rechecking his cards Lalor made the call. It was Akindele Deadman who was first to show, she opened [4h][4c] but was behind to Lalor's [Ah][2d]. The [Qs] turn and [3h] river changed nothing and after the chips were cut down it was verified that Lalor had her covered and she wished everyone good luck as she left.

That's it for Day 2, 11 players will return tomorrow at noon to play for the first prize of £58,500 and a UKIPT title. A wrap of today's action including overnight chip counts is on the way. --NW

A bit of a cooler this one...

Chi Zhang opened to 40,000, Leslie Packer moved all-in for 390,000 and Richard Otto re-raised all-in from the small blind. Back on Zhang he claimed to have folded fives and it was time for showdown.

Packer: [Qh][Qs]
Otto: [Jd][Jc]

Otto threw his arms up in the air when he saw the bad news and it didn't get any better for him on the [4s][5s][6h][3s][Ac] board, he drops to 350,000 whilst Packer climbs to 865,000. --NW

He opened to 35,000 from under the gun and called when Tallon three-bet to 70,000 from the next seat. The flop fanned [js][4s][qc] and Mulligan check-called 45,000. He did the same for another 100,000 on the [qh] turn before he bombed for 270,000 on the [2h] river.

Tallon thought for several minutes and then said, "I'm just going to call" and opened [4h][4d] for a full house. He moved up to 1.4 million. -- MC

Despite busting from the Main Event, Deborah Worley-Roberts was in high spirits. She was down to three big blinds on the bubble so was happy to ladder to where she did.

She explained that she was sat on 14 big blinds when she raised under the gun. Pierrick Tallon called from the big blind and the flop came all low and contained two clubs. Shola Akindele Deadman opened the pot to 25,000 before Panteli moved all in for 265,000 from the next seat and Christopher Brice did likewise for 370,000 from one more seat along. Akindele Deadman folded.

Panteli: [ah][kc]
Brice: [ac][as]

The board ran [5s][5h][3h][kc][6h] to send tour-regular Panteli home.

8:55pm: David Lloyd eliminated in 21st place (£2,500)
We missed the exit of the player in 22nd place but can tell you that David Lloyd went in 21st. Down to just 177,000 he moved all-in from the button with pocket sevens and Martin Lindner isolated all-in from the small blind. The German showed [Ac][Qh] and got there on the river of a [4d][Th][6c][Jh][Ad] board. --NW

8:50pm: Sandro Carucci eliminated in 23rd place (£2,500)
Sandro Carucci was in the big blind and had just 70,000 to play with. They soon went in and he got unlucky to bust.

The action folded around to Brett Angell in the small blind and he moved all in blind without Carucci realising. The Swiss player looked down at his cards, liked what he saw, and called.

Angell: [qd][5h]
Carucci: [kd][qh]

The board ran [6s][5s][3s][qc][8c] to make the UKIPT4 London champion two pair. He's up to 1,006,000 now, not bad considering he started with 56,000 today. -- MC

Brett Angell: lucky and good

8:40pm: Patrick Horrocks eliminated in 24th place (£2,200)
Patrick Horrocks was down to just 24,000 when he made his move from the cutoff. Martin Linder was in the next seat and made the call.

Horrocks: [ac][4s]
Linder: [kc][js]

The board ran [2c][6h][6c][kh][4d] to make the German player a winning two pair. -- MC

8:35pm: Lucky double for Otto
Richard Otto has doubled up to around 975,000 after he cracked the aces of Martin Lindner. The chips went in preflop and the cards were flipped up.

Otto: [ts][tc]
Linder: [ah][as]

The board ran [9c][2s][7h][td][9d] to make Otto a full house. Linder dropped to 255,00. -- MC

8:15pm: Ullah falls in 27th place
Day 1A chip leader Javed Ullah has fallen after an opponent hero called him and then hit a better hand.

He was heads up to a [qc][6s][ts] flop with Scott Henry and faced a bet for all of his chips, 127,000 of them. He called off with [qd][jh] which was ahead of Henry's [ah][kh] but the board ran out [9d][ad].

Ullah looked destroyed but took the beat with grace. Henry moved up to 865,000. -- MC

8:05pm: Fleming doubles through Tallon
Andrew Fleming has doubled to 735,000 through then chip leader Pierrick Tallon, who dropped to 805,000 after the loss.

Fleming bet 70,000 on the turn when the board read [ks][ah][8c][4c]. Tallon called and then moved all in for 192,000 (effective) on the [js] river. Fleming snap called and opened [kh][kd] for a set. Tallon's [ac][jh] was beat and he paid hid dues. -- MC

7:50pm: Chip counts
Below are the chip counts of everyone remaining in this tournament, we could have a second Belgian winner of a UKIPT Main Event title as Pierrick Tallon is the current top dog. The shot of a double UKIPT winner is still alive too as Brett Angell is well placed and with three talented female players in the final 28 the first female winner of a UKIPT Main Event is also a possibility.

A Belgian leads in Bristol

7:50pm: Dan's deep run comes to an end
Dan Stacey has made yet another deep run on the UKIPT but it's just come to an end here in Bristol in 28th place.

It was Leslie Packer who did for him with Packer opening from the cutoff, Stacey three-betting from the small blind, Packer jamming and Stacey calling all-in for 299,000. Packer opened [Ah][Kh] and Stacey was in bad shape as he had [As][Qc]. The [4c][9c][7c] flop was about as good as it gets for Stacey but he missed all his outs on the [2d] turn and [Ks] river. --NW

6:38pm: Dinner break
The 28 remaining players are on a 60-minute dinner break. We'll bring you full chip counts when they return.

6:36pm: Misery level ends in defeat for Williams
Dan Williams looked understandably frustrated after he lost a race to David Lloyd to bust.

Lloyd raised and called after Williams moved all in for his last 104,000.

Lloyd: [as][ks]
Williams: [7d][7h]

The board ran [ah][9d][jc][6c][5d] to pair Lloyd's ace and he moved up to 353,000. -- MC

6:30pm: Lindner gets some value from Wootton
Martin Lindner is up to 510,000 after winning a decent sized pot against Matthew Wootton.
It was Wootton who was the pre-flop raiser, he made it 16,000 to go from the hijack, Linder (cutoff) and Bruce Atkinson (button) both called and the three of them saw a [6c][Jc][Ad] flop hit the felt.
After Wootton checked Linder bet 33,000 and Wootton was the only caller. He check-called a further 55,000 on the [9d] turn and both players then checked the [4s] river with Lindner's [Ac][Tc] proving to be the winner.Wootton slips to 240,000 as a result. --NW

6:20pm: Williams slides more as Ullah recovers
Neither Dan Williams or Javed Ullah have enjoyed the last level and a half. Both were near the top of the counts but have slid back down. The two just tangled in a pot and Ullah managed to negate a positional disadvantage to claw some much-needed chips back.

Ullah opened to 16,000 from the cutoff and called when Williams three-bet to 33,000 from the next seat. The flop spread [6s][3d][6h] and William continued for 23,000 and was check-raised to 52,000 by Ullah. Williams had a look of confusion on his face as he made the call.

The turn was the [3s] and Ullah moved all in for 87,000. Williams still looked confused and thought for a minute and folded saying, "I think I got away from a cooler there."

Ullah - 186,000
Williams - 247,000

5:50pm: Cody cold decked
Having come into today as one of the shortest stacks Jake Cody had run it up all the way to 422,000 (about 1.5x the average) before losing the lot in one hand.

In his exit hand Oluwashola Akindele Deadman opened to 12,000, Lee Mulligan flat called and Cody then squeezed to 42,000 with pocket queens, Akindele got out the way and Mulligan then four-bet to 100,000 total.
After thinking it over Cody five bet jammed and Mulligan snap called with aces, there was no help for Cody and when the stacks were counted down it was ascertained that Mulligan had the exact same stack as Cody.

After that hand Mulligan is up to around 880,000. --NW

5:45pm: Aces again for Zhang
Chi Zhang, who held aces in the bubble busting hand earlier, just found them again and used them to eliminate Andreas Kallis and move up to 710,000.

He opened from mid position and called when the short-stacked Kallis moved all in from the blinds.

Zhang: [ac][ah]
Kallis: [as][jh]

The board ran [4d][6d][3c][6h][7s].

"Unlucky," said Zhang.

"Well done," came the reply. -- MC

5:35pm: End of the road for Baker
Matthew Baker just lost a flip and his place in this tournament. He was all-in for around 70,000 with pocket tens and hoping to fade two overacards as Thomas Clack held [Kh][Qh]. However, the [7h][Qc][3d][6h][5s] board favoured Clack and Baker was cooked. --NW

5:30pm: The ups and downs of Dan Williams
Some you win...

and some you lose...

With 500,000 he's still going very nicely though. --NW

5:25pm: Wooton flops the nuts
"Unlucky," said Matthew Wootton to David Lloyd although you suspect he didn't really mean it as he'd just sucked out on him to stay in the tournament.

Wooton three-bet shoved [As][Ts] for 13 big blinds and Lloyd - who was the original raiser - called the shove with [Ad][Jd]. A [Qc][Kh][Js] flop was exactly what Wooton wanted and the [Qh] turn and [4h] river kept him infront.

He's up to around 180,000 whilst Lloyd is down to 230,000. -- NW

5:22pm: No Mulligan allowed for Persaud
Nik Persaud was down to 81,000 when he found a hand to go with but he couldn't win a race against Lee Mulligan.

He was under the gun when he made his move and Mulligan made the call from mid position.

Persaud: [as][kc]
Mulligan: [9c][9h]

The flop fanned [9s][6d][jd] and Persaud tapped the table and started to gather his things. The board ran out [as][kc]. -- MC

5:10pm: Hughes shoves into elimination
Tim Hughes was the latest player to bust after he shoved from the button. It was for 55,000 and Jack Thompson made the call from the big blind.

Hughes: [kc][td]
Thompson: [as][jc]

The board ran [jh][9s][6h][4c][6d].

Ryan Spittles was another casualty just before Hughes busted. -- MC

Chi Zhang on top

The remaining 126 players returned for Day 2 today, ripped open their bags and went about their business of trying to (first) make the money and (second) make the final table, if the ten one-hour allotted levels would allow. By the end of those levels, 11 players remained, just three short of the official final table of eight.

It was looking like 12 players were heading for the final day but Shola Akindele Deadman busted on the very last hand of the night to leave 11 men standing and ready for battle tomorrow. She got her chips in with pocket fours on a five high flop but Joseph Lalor had flopped trip deuces and took the lot to climb to second in the counts.

Top of the pile sits Chi Zhang. He came in to today fifth in the counts and impressively pushed opponents around and picked up big hands at the right time and managed to make them pay for him. One such hand happened to be on the bubble (see below). He leads a final 11 that looks like:

Hand for hand play on the bubble only lasted three hands and it was a cooler that cost David Milby his first ever UKIPT cash. He opened with pocket kings and then called all in for 16 big blinds after Zhang set him in. The latter opened pocket aces and 62 people in the room were happy to see the board run queen high.

The eliminations, as expected, came thick and fast after all the players had secured a minimum £1,350 payday. Start of day chip leader Neil Van Der Merwe, Robertas Vaitkevicius, Joe Grech, Lucas Blanco, David Clarkson, Nik Persaud, James Atkin, Dan Stacey, Kelly Saxby, Mike Panteli, Deborah Worley-Roberts and Jake Cody were all familiar faces who busted in the money today.

Worley-Roberts (R) went deep before Tallon (L) busted her

Cody was in the middle of creating another great poker story before his day was cut short by a cooler. The Team PokerStars Pro entered the day second bottom in the counts but, being the positive soul that he is, refused to give up on his tournament. He doubled early on and then ground his way through the bubble and amassed a stack 1.5 times the average before his exit hand. He five-bet jammed with pocket queen but ran into the aces of Lee Mulligan and failed to catch up.

UKIPT5 Bristol: Final table player profiles

$
0
0

Seat 1: Chris Brice, United Kingdom, PokerStars Qualifier, 1,813,000

Ukipt5_bristol_main_event_day3_chris_brice.jpg

Chris Brice

Although he says his poker is mainly played "socially," Chris Brice, 37, has been playing the game for 15 years and has been a regular attendee at the WSOP and the UK circuit, finalling UKIPT Coventry in 2010 for £6,600. His biggest live win to date came here in Bristol (£16,500 for a 3rd place finish in a £500 event) but this final table represents a shot at more than double that. Brice manages to fit in a lot of NL tourneys considering he has two children and a full time job as a radiology manager, and simply says, "I like to play poker!" His games of choice are no limit hold'em tournaments and Pot Limit Omaha, and he qualified for UKIPT Bristol online on PokerStars.

Seat 2: Chi Zhang, United Kingdom, PokerStars Qualifier,1,775,000

Ukipt5_bristol_main_event_day1b_chi_zhang.jpg

Chi Zhang

Chi Zhang is the youngest finalist, who, at 20 is honing his online poker skills at the same time as studying maths in Birmingham. Hailing from Nottingham, Zhang has known how to play poker for around four years, but has recently been building experience and improving due to "lots of volume." Keen on the UKIPT, Zhang intends to put in future appearances (he's already built up over $50,000 in live cashes in the last year alone) and is aiming to top his previous live record (£6,250 in a six-max event at Dusk Till Dawn) here in Bristol.

Seat 3: Joseph Lalor, Ireland, PokerStars Qualifier, 1,390,000

Ukipt5_bristol_main_event_day2_john_lalor.jpg

Joseph Lalor

Joseph Lalor is a 55-year-old computer software writer who lives in Dublin. He got into poker at school although back then it was draw and stud poker. However, he started playing online intermittently about ten years ago and began taking it more seriously about five years later. Since then he's had much success (his largest online score is $130,000) and he's made the final table of the Sunday Million twice - once when it was a WCOOP event. He's in Bristol with his wife visiting the in-laws and when not playing poker he enjoys hiking and doing cryptic crosswords. Should he win the £58,500 first prize he says his wife will get half to do whatever she wants with and the rest will be spent frivolously!

Seat 4: Les Packer, United Kingdom, 575,000

Ukipt5_bristol_main_event_day3_les_packer.jpg

Les Packer

Cardiff resident Les Packer, 43, has been playing poker for four years, starting out in his local club and progressing to playing online. On the virtual felt he's amassed over $186,000 in winnings including a $62,573.50 cash in the Sunday 500 on PokerStars last year. He is in business in renewable energy, but finds time to play on the UKIPT and picked up a cash in the UKIPT Nottingham Main Event back in April worth £1,760. Although one of the shorter stacks on the final table, his online experience will be of benefit as he tries to best his top result.

Seat 5: Otto Richard, France, 594,000

Ukipt5_bristol_main_event_day3_otto_richard.jpg

Otto Richard

Otto Richard, 31, moved to Brighton four years ago from Paris when all of the casinos in his hometown shut, forcing him to look further afield to play live poker (at which he was doing well - he won a €1,000 side event for €48,280 back in 2007). His regular occupation, however, is the online variety and after ten years of playing has found his favourite game to be limit heads up hold'em. Another of the shorter stacks coming to the final, the intently-focused Richard has been jotting notes throughout the tournament, reminiscent of Gus Hansen with his Dictaphone a few years ago.

Seat 6: Lee Mulligan, United Kingdom, 283,000

Ukipt5_bristol_main_event_day3_lee_mulligan.jpg

Lee Mulligan

Lee Mulligan, 39, hails from Cirencester and considers the Rainbow Casino here in Bristol as his local where he specialises in live cash games and MTTs. He's played poker in one form or another for a long time, but picked up online in 2005 and considers that a starting point of sorts, for taking the game more seriously. Mulligan, who plays regularly on the UK circuit (up to as far north as Dusk Till Dawn) has a string of live cashes to his name but this final table represents his biggest score. "I love the UKIPT," he said, "as the structure is so good. With a one hour clock I have the opportunity to recover from my mistakes!"

Seat 7: Pierrick Tallon, Belgium, PokerStars Qualifier, 2,707,000

Ukipt5_bristol_main_event_day3_pierrick_tallon.jpg

Pierrick Tallon

Pierrick Tallon came to Bristol for a holiday (more poker-themed than his friend who accompanied him would have liked) after winning a non-transferable package online, but has enjoyed his time in the UK and put his satellite win to good use - he comes to the final table as chip leader. The 23 year old left his college course in September and has been focusing more on online poker, spicing up the MTT grind with 5-card Omaha. Win or lose (he intends to see how the flow of the final goes before adapting his play), after the Main Event he will be off to see the sights here before heading back to Belgium (his friend, uninterested in the final, is already out seeing them today!).

Seat 8: Ben Winsor, United Kingdom, 1,953,000

Ukipt5_bristol_main_event_day3_ben_winsor.jpg

Ben Winsor

Professional online sports betting trader Ben Winsor at 27 has already been playing poker for nigh on a decade. The last four years have seen him rack up an impressive $234,638 in live cashes and his progress to the final here in Bristol has appeared smooth (no limit hold'em being his favourite game). Hailing from Broadstairs in Kent, Winsor has bagged himself a package to UKIPT Edinburgh by ending up the last man standing in the UKIPT Hotels Last-Longer, and is also guaranteed at least £6,900 for his final table appearance.

4:45pm: Winsor bluffs to Tallon as break ticks by
Level 26 had come to an end and all but two players - who were still locked in battle - went off on a 15-minute break.

Ben Winsor opened to 115,000 from under the gun and was called by Pierrick Tallon in the big blind. Winsor continued for 125,000 on a [9s][kd][ac] flop and called when Tallon check-raised to 250,000.

The [6c] turn was checked by both players and Tallon went on to check-call 240,000 on the [4h] river. Winsor was bluffing with [jd][td], losing out to Tallon's [ah][7s].

Tallon - 4,710,000
Winsor - 1,075,000

Updates from level 27 onwards will appear in a new post. -- MC

4:40pm: Christopher Brice doubles through Pierrick Tallon
A much needed double up for Chris Brice to tell you about and it came at the expense of the chip leader Pierrick Tallon.

It all went in pre-flop, Tallon raised to 100,000 with [Kc][Qd], Brice shoved for 770,000 with pocket threes and after a long tank during which Tallon tried to elicit information Brice the Belgian made the call. The [Jc][4d][7s][6h][6s] board kept the small pair ahead and Brice said "Sorry guys" to Joseph Lalor and Chi Zhang as they are the two other short stacks at the table. -- NW

4:32pm: Leslie Packer eliminated in 7th place (£9,700)
Leslie Packer has been smoked after Otto Richard came back and finished off the job he'd recently started.

Packer moved all in for 420,000 from the hijack and Richard was the only caller from the next seat.

Packer: [ad][ks]

Les Packer - seventh place

4:25pm: Packer down to ten big blinds
Les Packer is now the clear short stack after losing back to back hands against Otto Richard.

In the first he opened to 125,000 from under-the-gun and then folded when Richard moved all-in from under-the-gun+1. In the next he opened to 100,000 on the button and called when Richard three-bet to 275,000 from the small blind.

On the [Ks][Tc][2h] flop Otto moved all-in and Packer folded to leave himself with just 475,000. --NW

4:17pm: Clock called on Richard again
For the second time in just over an hour the clock was again called on Otto Richard but this time it was pre-flop and was in a spot where he was simply facing a three-bet.

He'd opened to 100,000 from the hijack and Ben Winsor had three-bet to 235,000 on the button. It folded back to Richard - he had about 1,300,000 behind - and he began to think over his decision. After a couple of minutes Joseph Lalor called the clock and the tournament director was called. The TD asked dealer how long Richard had taken so far and informed the Frenchman that he wasn't going to call the clock but that Richard should act soon else he would.

After about another 20 seconds Richard called and the two players took a [Th][Tc][9s] flop, no one bet and it was a similar story on the [9h] turn. The [Ah] completed the board and Richard checked and then folded when Winsor bet 285,000. --NW

4:03pm: Business as usual for Tallon
Pierrick Tallon's up to 4,650,000 after forcing Ben Winsor off a hand.

He raised to 100,000 from the small blind and Winsor defended his big blind to see a [th][6d][2d] flop come down. Tallon continued for 45,000 and called when raised to 150,000. Both players checked the [kc] turn before Winsor folded to a 350,000 bet on the [6s] river. -- MC

3:55pm: Lots of shoves, no calls
The players aren't being shy about getting their chips in the middle but when it comes to calling all-ins they're less keen.

In the past orbit Joseph Lalor, Otto Richard and Les Packer have all three-bet shoved but each time the original raiser didn't have the goods to call.

It's Lalor (730,000), Packer (900,000) and Chi Zhang (800,000) who are playing the role of short stacks right now. --NW

3:45pm: Tallon gets some back
Pierrick Tallon is back up to 3.8 million after winning a three-way pot.
Joseph Lalor raised to 100,000 from the cutoff and was called by Otto Richard and Tallon in the blinds. All three checked the flop before Lalor bet 150,000 on the turn with the board reading [8d][2c][6s][as]. Richard called but Tallon raised to 430,000. Both opponents folded. -- MC

3:30pm: Joseph Lalor doubles through Pierrick Tallon
Joseph Lalor started the final table with 1,390,000 but was down to 530,000 and took a stand against Pierrick Tallon.

The chip leader opened to 80,000 and Lalor shoved for 530,000 from the small blind. Back on Tallon he mulled the decision over for a couple of minutes before saying to Lalor: "Do you want me to call?" to which Lalor replied. "It depends what you've got."

After another minute or so Tallon announced call and showed [Ad][9s] which was ahead of Lalor's [Kc][Jd]. The [2h][Js][7h][2c][5s] board saw Lalor spike a jack to survive. He's back up to 1,100,000 whilst Tallon is down to 3,200,000. --NW

3:08pm: Clock called on Otto Richard
Otto Richard likes to take his time over decisions. For the first time today, an opponent called the clock on him.

Ben Winsor opened to 90,000 from early position and Richard peeled from the big blind before both players went on to check the [5s][8d][2d] flop. The turn was the [9d] and Richard led for 140,000. Call. The board completed with the [3d] and Richard checked to face an 85,000 bet.

After a few minutes, the clock was called on Richard. After 30 seconds he flicked in a chip to call. Windor opened [jd][ts] for a flush and Richard mucked.

2:53pm: Tallon passes four million
Pierrick Tallon has become the first player to pass four million chips.

He defended a cutoff raise from Joseph Lalor while in the big blind and check-called 150,000 on a [3c][3d][qh] flop. The turn was the [9h] and he called another 250,000 before both players checked the [qc] river. Laor opened [jd][9d] but lost out to Tallon's [ac][9c]

2:15pm: Tallon extends his chip lead
Pierrick Tallon started the final table as chip leader and he's just padded his stack after winning a three-way pot.

He got the action started by raising to 60,000 from the hijack, Ben Winsor (cut off) and Chris Brice (button) both called but Joseph Lalor didn't call, instead he three-bet from the big blind to 140,000. That was enough to see off Winsor, but the other two stuck around and the flop fell [Jh][5s][Jd].

The action checked to Brice who bet 200,000, Lalor folded but Tallon made the call. The two players both checked the [5d] turn and [Kc] river and Tallon's pocket tens bested Brice's pocket nines at showdown. --NW

2:05pm: Lee Mulligan eliminated in 8th place (£6,900)
Lee Mulligan came into the final as the shortest stack and he was the first person to depart, in a three-way all-in confrontation.

He was under the gun and moved all in for his last 204,000. Chi Zhang was in the cutoff and called before Otto Richard moved all in for 590,000 from the big blind. The move sent Zhang deep into the tank. You could see his working numbers in his head and he eventually made the call after about four minutes.

1:15pm: Tallon takes one
Chi Zhang will be breathing a sigh of relief that his draw didn't get there otherwise the amount of chips he lost to Pierrick Tallon may have been far higher.

He raised it up pre-flop from middle position and Tallon called from the big blind. Zhang then fired bets of 72,000 and 180,000 on the [8h][Ts][Ks][Qh] board before shutting down on the [6c] river. "Jack high" announced Zhang, showing [Js][7s], Tallon could beat that as he had [Qs][9s]. If the flush had come there may well have been fireworks, as it is it was just a small skirmish. --NW

The third final table in four dream is over for Brett Angell after he lost a race to Ben Winsor to bust.

Another strong showing from Angellt

12:45pm: Mulligan the shortest
Lee Mulligan is the shortest stack of the remaining 10 players and he just moved all his chips across the line in an attempt to double up.

His shove was for 298,000 in total and he'd got through everyone in double quick time until Otto Richard - who was in the big blind - asked for a count. The Frenchman has a notepad and a pen with him at the table and can often be seen scribbling notes or making calculations. He took a look at the tournament clock, for informatioon payouts, average stack or perhaps just to see what the blinds were.

He then scribbled something on his notepad and went back to tanking. He played with his chips, counted how many he had had again and eventually folded after about two to three minutes. --NW

12:30pm: Angell nervous about achieving
There's a sense of nervousness in the air as the players edge closer to a UKIPT final table. Naturally, and understandably, the average time to make decisions has lengthened as each one becomes ever more important. The style of play hasn't changed; three-bets, one four-bet and a couple of all ins with no calls have been seen since they were reduced to ten.
"I don't know what I'm more nervous about," said Brett Angell. His beloved Middlesbrough are streaming on an iPad next to him but thoughts of making a third final table in four UKIPT Main Events are at the front of his mind.

Angell won UKIPT4 London last October and returned to make the next final table, back in London for the first stop of Season 5. He failed to go deep in Nottingham and was too busy getting engaged to travel to Marbella. What ever happens today, life seems to be pretty sweet for Angell at the minute. -- MC

12:10pm: Andrew Fleming eliminated in 11th place (£4,570)
Phil Hellmuth could learn a lot from Andrew Fleming for never has a man taken having aces cracked deep in a tournament better than him.

He three-bet to 150,000 after Joseph Lalor had opened to 60,000 and when Lalor set him in for around 540,000 total Fleming snap called.

"We've got aces against nines," he explained to a friend on the rail as the dealer fanned a [Kc][9s][Jd] flop. "And we're done," he added. The [3s] turn and [8h] river meant he didn't hit his two outer, although Lee Mulligan told the PokerStars Blog that he folded an ace so in fact Fleming had been drawing even thinner. Fleming displayed no histrionics and no bad will towards Lalor indeed he was smiling as he shook hands with the players at the table as he left.

With Fleming's elimination Lalor has taken the chip lead and Otto Richard was moved from table two to balance the tables. --NW

9pm: Huge pot sees Brice drop to ten big blinds
A ten-million chip pot played out and Chris Brice lost it to drop to just over a million chips.

He opened to 250,000 and called after Pierrick Tallon three-bet to 750,000. The flop fanned [8s][3d][9h] and Tallon continued for 650,000. Brice thought for a moment and then moved all in. Tallon double checked his cards and called all in for 4,270,000.

Tallon: [9s][9c] for top set.

The players signed the necessary paperwork, shook hands and got back into the action. -- MC

8:10pm: Chi Zhang eliminated in 3rd place (£26,500)
It took just over ten minutes of post-dinner action before UKIPT Bristol became a heads up affair.

Chi Zhang raised to 200,000 from the button and called after Pierrick Tallon three-bet to 550,000 from the next seat. The flop came down [8d][9d][9h] and Zhang called a 450,000 c-bet from Tallon. The Belgian slowed to a check on the [6s] turn and Zhang bet 675,000. Tallon asked how much he had behind and when he found out it was 1.6 million he moved all in.

"I didn't bet to fold," said Zhang as he called. "Do you have an over pair?" he continued. He soon found out that was the case.

Tallon: [qh][qs]
Zhang: [ad][8h]

The young Brit needed to find an ace or eight on the river but the [js] confirmed his exit.

After a hero call gone wrong Chi Zhang was down to 1,320,000 and three-bet all-in for the lot after Pierrick Tallon had opened to 160,000.

The Belgian - who's been involved in a lot of all-ins at this final table - went through his customary routine, he took off his sunglasses, got a count and then began to steeple his fingers as he went through the decision making process. After a minute or so he announced call.

Zhang: [Qd][Qs]
Tallon: [As][5s]

The [7c][8h][Js] flop was a good one for Zhang but the [4s] turn made things interesting. "Sweaty, sweaty turn," said Zhang. The [8d] fell on the river and Zhang doubled to around 2,650,000 whilst Tallon is down to about 4,500,000. --NW

Otto Richard - fourth place

6:25pm: Chi Zhang doubles through Otto Richard
A big double up for Chi Zhang, but his rail - who've been here all day- missed it as they'd gone for food. Typical!

In the hand in question Zhang open shoved for 1,130,000 and after getting a count Otto Richard made the call and both Pierrick Tallon and Chris Brice folded.

Zhang: [As][9d]
Richard: [Ah][Qc]

The flop fell [6c][7c][5c] and Zhang said: "I'll take a pair," and his wish was granted as the [6s] turn card did indeed pair the board to give Zhang some chop outs. The river though was not one of those it was though the [9h] which meant Zhang won the pot outright.

He doubles up to over 2,250,000 as a result, whilst Otto slips to around 1,000,000 as a result. --NW

6:10pm: Richard limp-shoves
"No one gets shoved on more than you!" said Chi Zhang to Pierrick Tallon after the Belgian had been put to yet another tough decision.

The hand started with Otto Richard limping under-the-gun, Tallon raised it up to 220,000 on the button and it folded back round to Richard who moved all-in. After getting a count (1,980,000), Tallon let his hand go. --NW

LEVEL UP: BLINDS 40,000/80,000, ante 10,000

5:58pm: Brice joins Tallon at the top
Chris Brice and Pierrick Tallon both have around 3.3 millions chips after the former forced the latter off a hand.

Tallon raised from the small blind and Brice defended his big blind. Both checked the [6d][ah][ad] flop before Tallon check-raised Brice's 240,000 bet up to 720,000 on the [kd] turn. Brice quickly moved all in for 2,760,000 and Tallon admitted defeat with a fold. -- MC

5:45pm: Chris Brice doubles through Pierrick Tallon
Pierrick Tallon never stood a chance of eliminating Chris Brice as the latter cleverly used his one time!

The Englishman three-bet all-in for 1,340,000 and Tallon, who'd opened to 120,000 said: "It's better than king-queen," referencing the pairs last all-in, to which Brice said: "I've got better than threes!"

After thinking it over Tallon called and showed [As][Jh] which was behind to Brice's [Ts][Td]. "I'd like to use my one time please," said Brice as the dealer prepared to roll out the community cards. "It's a good time to use it," said Chi Zhang.

Indeed it was as the [3c][Kh][7d][5s][4s] board kept Brice in front and he doubled to around 1,790,000 whilst Tallon slips to 4,600,000. --NW

5:30pm: Joe Lalor eliminated in 5th place (£16,000)
Joe Lalor lost two pots in a row to Chris Brice and it cost him his tournament life.

Firstly, he doubled up Brice when he raised to 125,000 with [ah][3d] and called his shove for 535,000. Brice tabled [qs][qh] and survived the [6s][9d][tc][4h][2h] board.

5:15pm: Ben Winsor eliminated in sixth place (£12,900)
No sooner had we had one all-in then there was another, but this time the short stack wouldn't survive.

Pierrick Tallon opened to 120,000, Ben Winsor shoved for 1,095,000 and after getting a count Tallon made the call. Winsor opened [Ad][Jh] but he was behind to Tallon's [As][Qd]. The [8s][9s][3c][8d][7h] board meant the dominating ace held and Tallon now has over half the chips in play. -- NW

Pierrick Tallon - UKIPT champion

After four fantastic days of poker it's Pierrick Tallon who's emerged victorious to win UKIPT Bristol and £53,000 whilst Chris Brice's second place finish is worth £42,000 after the two players struck a deal heads-up.The 23-year-old becomes the second Belgian to win a UKIPT Main Event, emulating Gilles Augustus who triumphed at UKIPT1 Coventry. Amazingly, Brice was also at that final table, finishing seventh. "I feel really happy. I can't really find the words to describe it. I don't think I realise what has happened yet," said Tallon after he'd won.

To say the result was never in doubt would be pure hyperbole, this is poker after all, but Tallon entered the final table as chip leader and it was not until heads-up play that he lost that advantage for the first time. "No one gets shoved on more than you," said Chi Zhang to the Belgian at one point during the final table and it did seem that Tallon was involved in more than his fair share of all-ins and decisions about calling all-ins.

Ukipt5_bristol_main_event_day3_heads_up.jpg

Heads-up play gets under way

That his record in those he did play, prior to heads-up play, was won three, lost four it's clear that Tallon didn't triumph at this final table simply by running good in all-ins. Indeed his methods for winning big pots included picking off bluffs, eliciting hero calls, inducing bets and good old aggressive poker to force his opponent to fold. The key hand heads-up is a nice combination of the two pillars that the foundations of his victory were built on. Having re-raised from the big blind with pocket nines he continued on the nine high flop and managed to get Brice to move all-in with bottom pair, a hand that had just 0.4% equity.

That was the biggest pot of the tournament and despite Brice doubling up once Tallon finished him off when his [Ah][3s] held against Brice's [Kh][4h]. "I felt the final table went my way when I needed it to," explained Tallon after he'd got his hands on the trophy. "I lost some pots also but the luck was on my side," he said.

If Tallon's route to heads-up had been relatively smooth, Brice's was anything but. He began the final table with over 60 big blinds but his chipstack began a slow dribble downwards until he was involved in a series of all-ins.

In the space of 60 minutes he doubled through Tallon, doubled up Chi Zhang, doubled through Joseph Lalor, knocked out Lalor and then doubled through Tallon again. At that point play was five handed and Brice was vying for the chip lead with 3,300,000. It was almost the same amount he'd take to heads-up play, but despite taking the lead briefly during heads-up play he ultimately couldn't mount a comeback from the ten to one chip deficit he was faced with after losing that huge pot. Still, £42,000 is a great result for the Radiology Manager.

Ukipt5_bristol_main_event_day3_brett_angell.jpg

Another top performance from Angell

When play began at noon there were 11 players left in contention for the title, all eyes were on Brett Angell though as the 'Boro boy was going for his second UKIPT title and third final table in four UKIPT Main Events. However Angell would fall short in tenth place when he lost a classic race to Ben Winsor with ace-king against jacks. His exit followed that of Andrew Fleming (11th) and proceeded Hak-Mann Lee's (9th) and after ninety minutes of play the official final table was set.

UKIPT5_Bristol_final_table.jpg

The elite eight

Lee Mulligan and Les Packer were the two shortest stacks when cards got in the air and neither could ladder up. Mulligan fell at the hands of Otto Richard in a three-way all-in that also featured Zhang and Packer also fell to the mercurial Frenchman. Originally from Paris, Richard now calls Brighton home and he was a curious presence at the table. He was studiously jotting notes throughout the tournament, which wasn't a problem, it was more the time he took to make decisions even when there was no action in front of him. Twice he had the clock called on him, once in a pre-flop situation where he was facing a regular three-bet.

Ukipt5_bristol_main_event_day3_ben_winsor.jpg

Winsor good at sports betting and poker

Next to go was Ben Winsor, the professional online sports betting trader had played a steady game throughout but saw it all unravel in two hands in quick succession against Tallon. First he had a bluff picked off and then the rest went in with a dominated ace that stayed that way. He went out in sixth for £12,900 and we finally got a look at his footwear.

Ukipt5_bristol_main_event_day3_winsor_shoes.jpg

Pretty in pink...and orange

Fifteen minutes later five became four when Joe Lalor lost back to back pots to Brice (A3 vs QQ and KJ vs AQ) to bust in fifth. The 55-year-old computer software writer is no stranger to final tables as he's final tabled the Sunday Million twice.

Four handed play lasted over an hour until Richard busted. He got it in good against Zhang and lost half his chips and then got the rest in bad against Tallon and although he had two live cards neither hit.

Ukipt5_bristol_main_event_day3_joseph_lalor.jpg

Lalor - another final table for the Irishman

Ukipt5_bristol_main_event_day3_otto_richard.jpg

Richard will be remembered

So that left start of day chip leader Zhang as the shortest of the three with about 25 big blinds, they would all go to the eventual winner. A hero call gone wrong dented the maths students prospects and Tallon trapped him with an overpair for the rest. It was a composed performance from the 20-year-old, who was well supported on the rail throughout the final, and with the talent he has he's odds on for another big score in the future.

UKIPT5_Bristol_final_table_Chi_Zhang.jpg

Zhang - third place

At this point it looked like we might have a wire to wire winner of a UKIPT Main Event, but although Tallon briefly lost the lead there would be no denying him the title. The Belgian, who plays poker for a living has no concrete plans for the money earned this week: "I'm going to try and be reasonable with the money but I'll probably spend a bit more than usual the next few days and then get back to my normal games," he told the PokerStars Blog.

Below is a reminder of how much everyone won at today's final table. While they took the lion's share of the prize pool, 63 players shared £302,834. For a full breakdown, please click here.

Chris Swinden soars to the summit on Day 1B of UKIPT5 Isle of Man

A last level surge took Swinden to the top on Day 1B

There aren't many hard and fast rules in poker tournaments, but along with the blinds steadily rising and someone ending the tournament with all the chips, it seems to be the law that the second of two starting flights will always attract more runners than the first.

With late registration and late risers it's often a case of a mini-game of the tortoise and the hare as the Day 1B numbers slowly creep towards Day 1A's total before inevitably overtaking it and speeding on ahead. But, there was no chase here at the Villa Marina as before a card had been pitched 141 players were in their seats ready for 12 levels of no-limit Hold'em, eclipsing the 111 Day 1A entries from the off. By the time late registration closed that number had risen to 238, courtesy of 218 unique players and 20 re-entries and took the total number of entries in this £400+£40 tournament to 349.

Ukipt5_IOM_main_event_day1b_tournament_room.jpg

Packing them in on the Isle of Man

A short time later the tournament staff had crunched the numbers and it was announced to the players that the winner of the UKIPT5 Isle of Man Main Event will take home £26,400, the player who loses the final hand will have £16,770 reasons to be cheerful, whilst 47 players in all will have at least £770 to show for their efforts this week. You can feast your eyes on the entire payout structure here.

Whilst the curse of the chip leader is a well worn poker maxim, Chris Swinden has laid firm foundations for a deep run in this tournament. Thanks to a last level surge when time was called on Day 1B it was the Isle of Man native who had made most headway, bagging up a chip leading stack of 245,200. Others who laid the groundwork for a tilt at a UKIPT title today include: Shane Henry (211,500), Daniel Best (177,700), Johan Bakketeig (177,500) and David Clarkson (177,100). They'll all be back at noon tomorrow for Day 2 with a spring in their step.

Ukipt5_IOM_main_event_day1b_luca_pagano.jpg

Pagano - found the UKIPT a tougher nut to crack than the EPT

Sadly the same can't be said of those representing Team PokerStars Pro today who one by one were ceremoniously despatched from proceedings. First to go was Luca Pagano. The Italian holds the record for most cashes and most final tables on the European Poker Tour but his second shot at this tournament went the same way as the first. He flopped top two pair against Deborah Worley-Roberts on a [3h][5d][4d] board when the American had [Ad][3d] for 'everything' as Pagano put it. Whilst Worley-Roberts might have feared an attack of 'too many outs' syndrome a third three on the river saw Pagano tripped out of the tournament.

Whilst it was a rare appearance on this tour for him at least Liv Boeree and Jake Cody, who were both playing for the first time today, know they won't have too long to wait for another shot at a UKIPT title having both come close in the past to winning a UKIPT Main Event.

Ukipt5_IOM_main_event_day1b_jake_cody2.jpg

The cards didn't fall for Cody

For Cody his demise was a case of the best hand failing to hold...twice. His first stack disappeared at the end of level three when he moved all-in with [Qd][Td] on the turn of a [3d][Qs][Tc][2c] board and got a call from Jeanne David who held [Ac][Qc]. The [Kc] river meant it was off the the registration desk for Cody as he quickly re-bought.

The second bullet was far more of a grind as around seven levels later he still had his starting stack of 25,000 when he got in a flip with tens against ace-jack which he lost. That left him on fumes and another lost race with pocket sixes against [Qd][Jd] (queen on the flop) meant Cody was not only left potless but also out of pocket to the tune of $100 thanks to a last longer bet with Chris Moneymaker.

In comparison to Cody's day, Boeree's Main Event experience was far more benign until her exit hand when a failed river bluff shove with ace high, on a seven-high board, was picked off by an opponent who held pocket queens.

Ukipt5_IOM_main_event_day1b_liv_boeree.jpg

Boeree - busted

It was much the same story for a couple of famous Isle of Man athletes who were both playing with a PokerStars patch today. Conor Cummins is a Manx motorcycle road racer who suffered a huge crash on his home roads in 2010 but made a full recovery and is back competing at the top. Whilst Zoe Gillings-Brier is a professional British snowboarder and a veteran of three Olympic games. Both of their tournaments came crashing down today though with Gillings-Brier now the proud owner of the 'aces cracked to bust a tournament' poker badge as her pocket rockets were cracked by kings, all in pre-flop.

Her exit is far from the end of her association with PokerStars though as it was announced today that PokerStars is going to be sponsoring her by playing a significant part in her Olympic programme by supporting her to train and compete towards the biggest competition of her career to date - the 2018 Winter Olympic Games, which is being held in Pyeongchang; South Korea.

The wheels came off for Cummins

They were in good company on the rail though as the likes of: Paul Newey, Fintan Gavin, Simon Trumper, Alli Mallu and Katja Spillum Svendsen were all eliminated and bragging rights in the PokerStars Isle of Man office will not belong to Chris Straghalis, Rick Dacey, Rebecca McAdam, Matthew Hilger or Eoin Kennedy.

A total of 65 players did advance to Day 2 though and will join the 32 who made it through from 1A. The Day 1B survivors include those listed below who are notable for the size of their stack, the reputation behind it or both:

Paul Moran, 176,100
Joe Grech, 174,100
Pierrick Tallon, 170,000
Dan Stacey, 159,300

Fletcher opened on the button with two red jacks, Worthington-Leese moved all-in for 120,000 with [Ac][9c] from the small blind and Fletcher made the call.

The board ran [2s][8d][Tc][Qs][8h] to keep Fletcher in front. --NW

3:40pm: Why didn't you bet?
UKIPT5 Bristol champion Pierrick Tallon is putting up a sterling attempt at winning back to back UKIPT titles but he just lost a pot to Daniel Stacy to drop to 160,000.

The pre-flop action is unknown but with 55,000 in the pot by the time the [3s][9s][Jh] hit the flop suggesting that Stacey (mid position) had opened and then called a Tallon (button) three-bet.

What we can say for sure is that on that flop Stacey check called a bet of 24,000 and both players then checked the [Qs] turn and [5s] river. Stacey showed down [As][Jc] for the nuts and Tallon looked ruefully at the river before mucking his hand.

"Why didn't you bet?" said Stacey to the Belgian as he dragged the pot, he's up to 500,000 as a result of that win. -- NW

3:30pm: The force was strong in this one
Talented Luke Staudenmaier was the first player to bust in the money and he couldn't quite believe it how it happened.

The action folded around to Elliott Hayes in the small blind who casually set Staudenmaier all in for his last 85,000 or so. Staudenmaier looked down at [kh][qs] and immediately called. Hayes then opened [ah][ac] which nearly caused Staudenmaier's eyes to pop out of his head.

"What is this?!" he asked the universe whilst pointing at Hayes' hand.

The board ran [2h][js][4c][8c][3h] to send him to the front of a very short line at the payout desk. -- MC

3:20pm: Dylan Coady bubbles UKIPT5 Isle of Man
Dylan Coady works for PokerStars as their VIP Club Manager and the Canadian will have a tale to tell around the water cooler on Monday but it won't be a happy one as he's just stone bubbled the Isle of Man Main Event.

He shoved for 77,000 total after Craig Sewell had opened to 10,000 from early position, after getting a count Sewell made the call from his stack of 590,000. The hands couldn't be turned over immediately as action was still going on at other tables, but when it had finished Coasy saw that he was racing for his tournament life with [Ac][9c] against Sewell's [6h][6d].

The [5s][Js][4h][4s][5s] board favoured the big stack and Coady finished in 48th place whilst Sewell is up to 660,000 and is the chip leader.

Everyone left in has locked up a min-cash of £770. -- NW

3:15pm: Bubble time
The clock has been paused as just 48 players remain and we're now on the bubble here in the Isle of Man. Those just missing out on the money include: Sameer Singh, Senh Ung (he's hopped in the High Roller), Dara O'Kearney, Ethan Brown and Simon Hamilton. -- NW

3:10pm: Corion busts two hands later
One can never be comfortable playing NL Holdem, just ask Phillip Corion who busted a couple of hands after he eliminated Chris Moneymaker.

He, Craig Sewell and Gareth Mcintosh all took to a [10s][5h][3s] flop. Sewell bet 16,000 from early position before Mcintosh raised to 36,000 from the hijack. Corion then came in with a three-bet to 85,000 from the big blind and was only called by Sewell. The [ks] fell on the turn and Corion moved all in for around 90,000 and was snap called by Sewell.

Corion: [5s][5c] for a set.
Sewell: [as][qs] for the turned but flush.

The [8h] came on the river and Corion had to leave. Sewell's up to 510,000.

Just 49 players remain with 47 getting paid. -- MC

2:57pm: At least Moneymaker has Candy Crush for company
Chris Moneymaker found no way to halt his sliding stack and has just been eliminated.

He was down to 53,500 when he moved all in from under the gun. Phillip Corion was in the next seat and moved all in to successfully isolate the Team PokerStars Pro.

Moneymaker: [qc][td]
Corion: [ah][qd]

Moneymaker predicted he only had three outs before the cards were opened and none of them came in as the board ran [2h][7h][4c][2s][ks].

"Good luck guys!" said Moneymaker who went off to carry on playing his real passion - Candy Crush. -- MC

2:35pm: Doke's not broke, he just got a little choked
Dara O'Kearney's stack has dropped to around 80,000 after he lost a smallish pot to Anthony Galloway.

Johan Bakketeig opened the pot with a button raise and both Galloway and O'Kearney called from the blinds. All three checked the [qc][2h][8s] flop before Galloway led for 9,500 and 9,000 on the [2d][ac] turn and river.

O'Kearney called both bets with [td][8d] but lost out to Galloway's [9s][9d]. -- MC

1:59pm: Chris Moneygiver
Team PokerStars Pro Chris Moneymaker has dropped to 67,000 as the break approaches.

He was heads up with John Lawson and they made it to the river where a [4c][jd][8c][3d][qs] board rested. Moneymaker set Lawson all in for his last 34,000 and then mucked when he called with [qc][jc] for two pair.

"When he snaps, I know I'm in trouble!" said Moneymaker. -- MC

1:58pm: More exits
Almost 30 players have been eliminated so far on Day 2 and they include:

Adrian Stanciu
Bruce Williamson
Guy Phillips
Adam Christian
Carl Harris
Lukas Dimsa
Steven Kraut
Shane Henry
Roger Lu

1:55pm: No hat-trick for Moreira de Melo
Fatima Moreira de Melo's 100% cashing streak in UKIPT Isle of Man Main Events is over as she's been eliminated by Ted Spivack. The latter opened with [7][3] from late position and the Team PokerStars SportStar defended from the blinds with [Q][J]. She called a continuation bet on the [3][3][X] flop, both players checked the blank turn and on the blank river Moreira De Melo made her move, an all-in move, and Spivack called to eliminate her. -- NW

1:45pm: Deb's destroys Davey
You can add another high profile scalp to Deborah Worley-Robert's resume. Yesterday she took care of Team PokerStars Pro Luca Pagano and just moments ago she eliminated UKIPT4 Player of the Year Daragh Davey.
The Irishman shoved from the small blind for 36,900 after Leo Worthington-Leese, had opened to 5,300 on the button. Worley-Roberts was in the big blind and looked interested, she asked for a count and then moved all-in herself, a bet of around 110,000 and Worthington-Lesse folded what he later said was [Kh][Jh].

"Thank @#@# for that," said Worley-Roberts, as she showed [Ah][Qh] which was ahead of Davey's [Ac][Td]. The [6c][7c][Qs][5c][Js] board meant Davey was eliminated and boostedWorley-Roberts' stack to over 150,000. -- NW

1:37pm: Bad timing sending Panteli on his way
Mike Panteli was down to around 35,000 when he found a pair in early position. In they went and it looked as if his shove was going to get through until Pasquale Egisto looked down at his hand in the big blind. Call.

Panteli: [5d][5s]
Egisto: [ah][as]

The board ran [kd][qh][kh][9c][ts] and Panteli wandered off with a resigned look upon his face. -- MC

1:30pm: The rich get richer
The blog asked Day 1B chip leader Chris Swinden if he'd won a big pot seeing as he required a lot of racks to move tables.

"One big pot?!" said a chuckling Anthony Galloway.

"I won a couple of them," said a smiling Swinden as he transported 515,000 to his new table. -- MC

1:10pm: Huge hand for Stacey
Dan Stacey finished sixth here in 2013 and he's running up another big stack as he just eliminated Adam Prickett to climb to 230,000, good for a top five stack.

The pre-flop action is unknown but on a [Kd][Ad][Qs] flop Prickett (big blind) checked to Stacey (cut off) and he bet 8,200. Back on Prickett he check-raised to 16,500 and Stacey responded with a re-raise to 58,200 total, which looked like it was enough to set Prickett all-in.

UKIPT5_IOM_Dan_Stacey_day2.jpg

Stacey doing what Stacey does

The latter now went into the tank for quite some time before announcing call, he turned over [Ac][Ts] and Stacey showed [Kc][Kh]. It was only now that Prickett's stack was counted down and it was established that he actually had 11,800 more than Stacey's bet. The floor was called and it was ruled that the intention on both players part was to call all-in and Stacey put the extra 11,800 in.

The [5h] turn and [6c] river meant Stacey's set of kings held and Prickett was eliminated. -- NW

LEVEL UP: BLINDS 1,500/3,000, ante 400

1pm: Slap shot for a double up
Fatima Moreira de Melo is back in business after doubling up through team mate, Chris Moneymaker.

Gareth Mcintosh raised to 5,200 from the hijack before the Dutch hockey star shoved for 28,300. Moneymaker was sat behind and made the call which was enough to force out Mcintosh.

Moreira de Melo: [kh][qh]
Moneymaker: [jd][js]

The board ran [ac][ad][qc][2s][kd] to Moreira de Melo's hand win.

UKIPT5_IOM_Chris_Moneymaker_day2.jpg

Why am I not at the final table yet?

A short while after, Moneymaker mentioned how he was surprised that so few players had busted so far but then he countered by saying that short stacks must be doubling, just like the two that had so far at his table.

"Yes we have!" piped up a smiling Moreira de Melo. -- MC

12:50pm: Exits
Despite an early double up Christin Maschmann is now out as are: Philip Mooring, Michael Severyn, Athir Ali, Mark Baxter, Paul Moran, Nerijus Andriuska, Darren Fuller, George Cunningham, Akaash Bhatia, Paul McCann, Chrise Land, Vlad Stanciu and Gerard Doherty. -- NW

12:45pm: Dimsal end to the hand for Dimsa
Lukas Dimsa was sat shaking his head after losing a hand where he flopped a full house. Ankit Ahuja was in the hand against him, flopped trips and rivered quads to doubled up.

David Longmate was kind enough to fill the blog in on the details. Ahuja opened to 5,000 and was called in three spots before Dimsa squeezed to 25,000. Ahuja moved all in for around 60,000 and Ahuja called after the other three players folded.

Dimsa opened pocket tens and was racing against Ahuja's ace-king. The flop came [ax][tx][ax] and then ran out [3x][ax]. What a board! -- MC

12:25pm: Two gone
The start of Day 2 on the UKIPT is usually fast and furious and it's no different here in the Isle of Man as a number of players have been eliminated in the opening 10 minutes of the level.

One of those to go was Gary Chatterton, he defended his big blind and then moved all-in for 27,100 on a [Ah][6d][Js] flop. It was a significant overbet as the pot was around 14,000, it gave Andrew Hutchison pause for thought but he elected to make the call. Chatterton opened [Jd][3d] for middle pair but Hutchison had the best of it with [Qd][Qs] and he held on the [9d][4c] turn and river.

And Gregor Abmayr is another casualty, the German got his last 12 big blinds in with [Ah][7h] but also lost to the ladies, with Ted Spivack dealing the fatal blow. --NW

12:20pm: Great start for one of PokerStars' own

12:10pm: Chess and NL Holdem results from last night
In the early hours of last night Kenny Chih-Hung, a poker pro originally from the USA, but now travelling around Europe, was victorious in the £150 + £15 Combined Chess and Poker tournament taking home £1,680 after seeing off no less an opponent than top UK chess player (and consistent world top ten) Adams heads up. The first part of the event represented his first chess tournament - something PokerStars Mind Sports Ambassador Jennifer Shahade had been instrumental in getting him to try after finding herself sat next to him in the Main Event. Chih-Hung was happy at his win though not prepared to commit to today's High Roller (he finished playing at 2:30am), but generally glad that his travel schedule - visiting a friend in Amsterdam - allowed him to come to the Isle of Man where, "Everyone is friendly, it's well run, and lots of fun."

11:40am: Welcome back for Day 2
Day 2 of the UKIPT5 Isle of Man Main Event is almost upon us. The field has been whittled down to double digits as just 97 players remaining from the two starting flights. Leading the way is Day 1A chip leader Adrian Filiczkowski with 247,600, closely followed by Day 1B chip leader Chris Swinden on 245,200. The only other player over the 200,000-mark is Shane Henry on 211,500.

PokerStars' Chris Moneymaker (188,700) and Fatima Moreira De Melo (30,400) are the only Team Pros who made it through, the former with chips to play with, the latter with work to do.

The UKIPT5 Isle of Man final table is set and it's Craig Sewell who's just missed out on a place at the top table.

He open shoved from early position for 279,000 with [8s][8d] and Michael Fletcher called with [As][Qh] to put him at risk. The [Qd][4d][7s][Jc][9c] board connected with Fletcher's overcards and ended play for the day.

11:35pm: Joe Grech eliminated in 10th place (£2,275)
The Main Event has become a one table affair after Joe Grech was sent packing over the course of two hands.

He opened with a raise from the button and called after Elliot Hayes moved all in for 420,000. Grech had a big hand with [qh][qs] and in good shape versus Hayes' [ad][ts]. That all changed though as the board ran out [6h][7h][4d][ac][as] to make Hayes trips.

Joe Grech - ninth

Grech was left with 26,000 chips and they went in the middle two hands later. Hayes called, as did James Walsh in the big blind.

The board ran out [8h][tc][js][kd][3h]. Walsh had a 25,000 bet called on the turn before both players checked the river. The cards were flipped up and Grech was out in tenth.

11:22pm: Christopher Knights Eliminated in 11th Place (£2,275)
Paren Arzoomanian has edged even closer to Dan Stacey after he eliminated Christopher Knights in 11th place.

Arzoomanian raised to 40,000 from under the gun and was called by Michael Fletcher (button) and Knights (big blind). The flop came [kh][tc][9c] and Knights open jammed for 312,000. Arzoomanian made the call but Fletcher folded after some thought.

Knights: [kc][4c]

The board ran out [6s][7h] and Knights was sent to the rail. -- MC

11:10pm: Arzoomanian catching Stacey
Paren Arzoomanian may be around a million chips behind Dan Stacey but he's up to 1.5 million and in pursuit.

He opened to 45,000 from the cutoff and then four-bet to 200,000 after Michael Fletcher three-bet to 120,000 from the small blind. Fletcher called to see a [4c][kd][qh] flop where he check-called 150,000. The turn and river ran out as [2s][qd] and Arzoomanian took the pot with [ah][ks]. -- MC

LEVEL UP: BLINDS 10,000/20,000, ante 3,000

10:50pm: John Cozens eliminated in 12th place (£2,005)
And then there were eleven, with one man sucking up all the chips. Dan Stacey moved up to 2,250,000 after he eliminated John Cozens.

Paren Arzoomanian opened to 35,000 from the hijack before Stacey three-bet to 83,000 from the next seat. Cozens was in the small blind and moved all in for 90,000. Stacey called off the extra after Arzoomanian folded.

Stacey: [6d][3d]
Cozens: [qs][7s]

The board ran [jh][3h][3c][4d][6c] to make the fortunate Stacey a full house. -- MC

10:38pm: News in brief
Paren Arzoomanian was balanced onto Table 1 and quickly tangled with the other big stack, in the shape of Dan Stacey. Both tip-toed cautiously through the hand though.

Arzoomanian raised to 33,000 from the small blind and Stacey defended his big blind. The flop fanned [7h][8c][kc] and Arzoomanian continued for 40,000. Stacey called before both went on to check the [9h][jc] turn and river down.

"Queen high," declared Arzoomanian and then he mucked upon seeing Stacey's [7s][5s].

Over on Table 2 Joe Grech was getting his game on by winning back-to-back pots.

First off he shoved on James Walsh on a [6h][9s][7c] flop in a battle of the blinds. The latter check-folded showing king-queen. Grech flashed an ace.

The very next hand he called an under the gun raise from Craig Sewell. The board rolled out [7h][8c][kc][9h][jc] and the first bet was made by Grech on the river. He bet 54,000 and Sewell tank called then mucked upon seeing Grech's pocket tens. He moved up to 690,000. -- MC

10:20pm: Nick Smith eliminated in 13th place (£2,005)
A huge 1,600,000 chip pot has sent Nick Smith to the rail and catapulted Dan Stacey, who already had a big stack, into the chip lead.

It was a blind on blind pot that escalated very quickly, Smith raised to 55,000 from the small, Stacey three-bet to 123,000 from the big, Smith moved all-in for 813,000 and after taking some time Stacey pushed forward some chips to signify he'd called.

Stacey: [Th][Ts]
Smith: [Ah][Kd]

It was a huge coinflip for over 100 big blinds and the [7s][Jd][6c][5s][Qc] board favoured the pocket pair and give Stacey a big chip lead as he's up to 1,900,000. --NW

The players are on a 15-minute break and then they'll play two more levels, unless the final table of eight is reached. -- MC

9:40pm: Jordan Johnson eliminated in 14th place (£1,800)
Jordan Johnson has been sat at the same table the entire tournament. Whenever there's been a redraw, he's only had to shift a few feet at most. The fact he's just busted means he'll never know the feel of another table.

Dan Stacey opened to 25,000 from under the gun and was called in two spots before Johnson squeezed all in for around 200,000 from the big blind. Stacey snap shoved behind him and forced out the other two players.

"You're miles ahead," said a defeatist sounding Johnson before the hole cards were revealed.

Stacey: [js][jd]
Johnson: [qh][3h]

The board ran [ah][2c][3c][6h][9s] to see Stacey's hand hold up. He's up to 1,408,000 now. -- MC

9:25pm: Martin Stuart eliminated in 15th place (£1,800)
It's not been a good 10 minutes for the remaining PokerStars employees in this tournament as Martin Stuart has just tumbled down the trapdoor too.

He was the shortest stack of the 15 remaining players and having already shoved twice he'd have been hoping it was third time lucky, especially as he got it in ahead.

UKIPT5_IOM_Martin_Stuart_Day2.jpg

Martin Stuart - 15th place

After an under-the-gun raise to 26,000 from Craig Sewell, Stuart made his move, pushing his stack of 133,000 across the line. This perked the interest of Rodger Reynolds, who flat called the bet, and when it folded back to Sewell he released his hand.

Sewell: [Ah][Jh]
Stuart: [As][Qd]

The [7s][7h][4c][Js][Kh] board favoured the big stack and sent Stuart to the rail. --NW

9:15pm: Scott Byron eliminated in 16th place (£1,595)
A flurry of rapid pre-flop raises usually means that you're looking at two premium hands colliding and so it proved in Scott Byron's exit hand.

He opened to 30,000 from under-the-gun, Dan Stacey three-bet 75,000 total, Byron came back over the top to 150,000, Stacey set the PokerStars employee all-in for around 330,000 and Byron quickly called:

Stacey: [Ac][Ad]
Byron: [Ks][Kd]

There was now cowboy to the rescue on the [7s][7h][4c][Js][8d] board and whilst Byron headed to the payout desk Stacey is now chip leader with 1,240,000. --NW

8:50pm: Robert Campbell eliminated in 17th place (£1,595)
There's a short break in the tournament now as just 16 remain and there's currently a complete redraw taking place.

That's because Robert Campbell just busted in 17th place at the hands of Paren Arzoomanian. The former opened to 25,000 for the hijack, Arzoomanian three-bet to 75,000 from the button and Campbell just called.

On the [6d][4s][As] flop Campbell open shoved for around 330,000 and after getting an eyes on count of Campbell's shove Arzoomanian announced call and showed [Ah][Td] which was well ahead of Campbell's [9h][6c]. The [3h] turn and [8c] river meant Arzoomanian's hand held up and he's back up to over a million in chips and the tournament chip leader once more. --NW

LEVEL UP: BLINDS 6,000/12,000, 2,000

8:45pm: Joe Grech doubles through Paren Arzoomanian
"I'm not raising to fold so I may as well go all-in," said Joe Grech when action reached him on the button.
His all-in bet was for 153,000 and after getting a count Paren Arzoomanian called from the small blind and when Nick Smith folded the big blind it was time for showdown.

Grech: [Kh][Tc]
Arzoomanian: [6c][6h]

"Good luck Sir," said Arzoomanian.
"I need some luck," replied Grech.

The Poker Gods were obviously looking down on Grech as the [2c][Td][8h][2s][3c] board meant he doubled up, whilst Arzoomanian slipped to 650,000. -- NW

8:40pm: Lappin and Egisto bust; down to 17 players
Two more exits to tell you about know as the action continues to be thick and fast...

Tour regular David Lappin was short on chips and three-bet all-in with [Ah][Qd] only to run into Craig Sewell's pocket kings. A queen on the turn gave him a few more outs but he didn't connect with the river.

And PokerStars staff member Pasquale Egisto Main Event run has also come to an end against pocket kings. He got involved in a pre-flop raising war against Daniel Stacey but found his pocket sevens crushed by the cowboys of Stacey. --NW

David Lappin aka Miss Finland

8:35pm: No final table this season for David Hill
David Hill came third here in Season 4 but they'll be no repeat this time around. He doubled up James Walsh and busted the very next hand.

He opened to 26,000 and called after Walsh three-bet from the next seat. The flop fanned [4h][8d][4d] and Hill check-called a 40,000 c-bet from Walsh. The turn came as [ad] and Hill moved all in and Walsh snap called all in for 137,000.

Hill: [kc][td]
Walsh: [ah][ks]

"Diamond, please!" asked a polite Hill but it failed to come as the board completed with the [7h].

The next hand Hill moved all in blind for his last 24,000 from under the gun and was only called by Chris Swinden on the button. Amazingly, Hill found himself in a great spot, but it wasn't to end well for him.

Hill: [ah][jc]
Swinden: [jh][th]

The board ran [ah][4h][td][8h][ks] to make Swinden a flush. -- MC

8:20pm: Smith makes big call; is good
Whilst Chris Swinden was winning that pot against Christopher Knights (see below) a bit bot was brewing between Nick Smith and Robert Campbell. On the turn of a [8s][Ad][7c][Jc] board Campbell, who was in the small blind, bet 77,000 and Smith smooth called.

The [As] completed the board and Campbell asked Smith how much he had left, "about 200,000," replied Smith. So, Campbell pushed eight of the green 25k chips into the pot and now Smith began to tank. "Do you have ace-king?" he enquired before adding. "I've got an ace."

Another couple of minutes passed until Smith elected to call, Campbell showed [2h][2c] but true to his word Smith did have an ace and the winning hand, [Ac][4c] to be precise.

He's up to 570,000 whilst Campbell is down to 415,000. --NW

8:10pm: Knights makes a big laydown
It's great when you get a big laydown right, but arguably worse when you get one wrong and that's what happened to Christopher Knights in the following hand.

Dan Stacey was the pre-flop aggressor, raising it up to 22,000 from under-the-gun, Chris Swinden called from the small blind and Knights came along from the big blind.

On the [Td][Jc][9d] flop Swinden led for 75,000 and Knights was the only caller. The [6c] hit the turn and Swinden bet again, this time for 80,000. "Do you have king-queen?" asked Knights to Swinden, who said nothing back.

Another 15 seconds or so passed and Knights then folded [8c][7s] - a flopped straight - face up, Swinden showed just one card, the [6s]. -- NW

8pm: Lappin fills up on chips, and he's just had his dinner!
David Lappin knew he needed to make thing happen coming back from dinner break. He did that, hit a full house, and doubled up.

He was down to 124,000 when he committed them preflop and found a willing customer in chip leader Paren Arzoomanian.

Lappin: [3c][3h]
Arzoomanian: [ah][qh]

The board ran [4c][5d][ks][4s][3s] and Lappin raked in the chips adding a cheery, "What a terrible turn card!" -- MC

7:55pm: Chip counts
The tournament staff did full eyes on chip counts during the dinner break and it'sParen Arzoomanian - who won ANZPT Sydney back in 2009 for AU$246,500 - who leads the 20 remaining players.

The 20 remaining players are now on a 60 minute dinner break. -- NW

6:50pm: Chochola busts just before the break
On one of the last hands before the 60 minute dinner break Adam Chochola lost the last of his chips. The pre-flop action is unknown but Chochola, John Lozens and Jordan Johnson all had cards in front of them as the [4s][5d][Jh] flop hit the felt.

At this point Chochola was already all-in, there was a main pot of roughly 165,000 and a side pot of 40,000. First to act was Lozens, he shoved all-in for 122,000 and Johnson tanked for a bit before folding.

Chochola said: "I'm going to need some help," and showed [9d][5c] which was behind to Lozens's [8h][8c]. The [3s] turn and [Qc] river kept Lozens in front whilst Johnson indicated he had eights beat. --NW

6:40pm: Walsh cracks aces
Another double for James Walsh who has been almost permanently shortstacked today. After a raise to 22,000 from Chris Swinden the Irishaman flat called on the button leaving himself just 46,000 behind and Pasquale Egisto came along from the big blind.

On the [Kc][3h][9h] flop Swinden bet 75,000, Walsh called all-in and Egisto folded his cards, Walsh showed [9c][9s] for a flopped set and he'd outdrawn Swinden as he held [Ac][As]. The [9d] turn gave Walsh quads - and a lock on the hand - and the meaningless [4s] completed the board. After that hand Swinden slips to around 400,000. -- NW

6:35pm: Longmate and Quirk depart
David Longmate and Paul Quirk busted soon after the redraw meaning only 22 players remain.

They both busted at virtually the same time but Quirk was handed 23rd spot. He was extremely short in the big blind and called all in after Jordan Johnson set him in from the small blind.

6:10pm: Walsh doubles double through the bank on Hill
Cheeky Irishman James Walsh found a lovely spot to get his short stack in and got much-needed double up because of it.

The action folded around to David Hill -who just doubled up another table mate - and he moved all in for around 160,000. Walsh was in the next seat and moved all in as well, for 54,000. The blind folded and the two players opened their hands.

6pm: Big stacks
Daniel Stacey still leads but there's a serious chasing pack behind him and that's due to sets getting hit and getting cracked. John Lawson eliminated Dawid Białas, when his eights flopped a set to crack the Pole's pocket queens and Robert Campbell turned a flush against UKIPT5 Bristol winner Pierrick Tallon's flopped set of fours to send the Belgian crashing out.

Luke Fern just got a much needed double up and it was David Hill who did the doubling. Last year's third place finisher had [8s][8h] but was behind all the way to Fern's [Jd][Jc].

Fern was all-in for 91,000 so is now up to around 190,000. -- NW

5:45pm: What's a girl to do with tens?
So said Deborah Worley-Roberts as her tournament came to an end. She opened to 20,000 with [Td][Ts], Elliot Hayes moved all-in for around 380,000 with [Jc][Jd] and when it folded back to Worley-Roberts she called all-in for about 160,000 total.

The [Jh][Th][3c] flop put Worley-Roberts through the wringer as she saw the ten first. "Oh come on," she said. She didn't hit her one out on the [6h] turn or [8s] river but took her exit well saying: "What's a girl to do with tens?" -- NW

5:35pm: Worley-Roberts making players her ....
Deborah Worley-Roberts is back up to 153,000 after getting Michael Fletcher off his hand post flop.

He raised to 12,000 from second position and then called after Worley-Roberts three-bet to 25,000 from the cutoff. The flop fanned [5s][3c][9d] and Worley-Roberts shoved for over 90,000 after Fletcher checked dark.

"So annoying," said Fletcher looking at the flop and his holding.

"Don't be a pussy!" said a goading Worley-Roberts.

He eventually folded and then said he had [ac][4c] when Worley-Roberts asked him.

"You were my B%@%H!" said a horse sounding Worley-Roberts. -- MC

5:20pm: Galloway can't believe it
Anthony Galloway was left ruing his luck when overnight chip leader Adrian Filiczkowski got lucky (again, see below) to stay in this tournament.

The former open to 17,000 with [Ks][Qd] and called when Filiczkowski three-bet all-in for just 38,000 with [Qh][Th]. The [Ts][3s][5d] flop was the cause of Galloway's consternation and it didn't get any better for him on the [3c] turn or [8s] river. --NW

5:10pm: Filiczkowski doubles through the Champ
A battle took place between the overnight chip leader Adrian Filiczkowski and reigning UKIPT5 Bristol champion Pierrick Tallon. The former's day has not een going as well as Day 1A and his needed a big slice of luck to double through the Belgian.

Tallon opened to 12,000 from the hijack and called after Filiczkowski three-bet all in for 38,000 from the small blind.

Filiczkowski: [kd][td]
Tallon: [ts][tc]

The board ran a Polish flavoured [kh][2d][5d][jd][2s] to make Filiczkowski a flush. Tallon's still going ok on 237,000. -- MC

4:55pm: Corkhill croaks
Christopher Corkhill is the latest player to exit from the Main Event and as the old saying goes 'you've got win your races'.

He three-bet shoved for 117,000 with [As][Kd] and the original raiser - Pasquale Egisto - made the call with pocket nines. A [4d][9h][Qh] flop gave Egisto a stranglehold on the hand and there was no miracle suck out on the [2c] turn or [8s] river. -- NW

4:45pm: Full chip counts
Here are the counts of the 36 remaining players as level 17 gets under way. Daniel Stacey, who finished sixth here in 2013, leads the way. Pierrick Tallon is the only remaining UKIPT champion left in.
