4:20pm: Halftime
The halftime whistle has been blown. After a short break the players will come back and swap ends. You can find level 5 updates here. -- MC

4:10pm: Beach time
The entrants for Day 1A had risen to 293, with registration open until the beginning of the next level and around 33 of those have already busted. Some of those off to the beach include:

Carl Croucher, Miguel Monton, Juan Manuel Cubero, Ian Nelson, Ian Murray, Luis Garcia, Pedro Baret, Abdellatif El Afrahi, Tudor Purice, Roberto Vientimilla, Heinz Traut, Mohamed Razab Sekh, Kyrre Dyregrov, Francis Lacken, Fonsi Nieto, Marcos Moreno, Roberto Ruiz, Viktor Leonov, Luis Caballero, Carlos Gonzalez, Alex Norden, Juan Dominguez, Jiri Horak, Richard Pearson, Andre Blanco, Tom Middleton, Marco Pacini, Ismael Benboufares, Peter McLen and Alvaro Amoros

3:55pm: Barrable hoping to avoid poker car crash
One of the great things about poker is that it's perhaps the most open 'sport' in the world and attracts people from all walks of life and as long as you've got the buy-in doesn't discriminate against anyone.

ukipt4_marbella2_day1a_peter_barrable.jpg

Barrable hoping to find poker's apex here in Marbella

One of the more interesting UKIPT regulars is Peter Barrable because his day job is about as far removed from the calm serenity of a poker room as is possible. Because you see Barrable is a rally driver! But he's not too bad at this poker lark either and he's had three deep runs in UKIPT Main Events. On the day England lost to Germany in the 2010 World Cup Barrable was busy finishing fourth at UKIPT Killarney and whilst that's his best result to date he's also finished 13th and 14th at UKIPT2 Galway and UKIPT2 Machester respectively.

He's one of the players who've late registered this event and as a result there's not been too much movement in his stack but he's climbed slightly to 21,000 and he's sat to the direct left of Vlad Lache. The Romanian, who plays mid to high stakes heads-up sit and gos for a living, has a couple of results on the Eureka Poker Tour but none on the UKIPT as yet. He's still got his starting stack of 20,000. -- NW

3:45pm: Elliot showing discipline
It takes a lot of discipline to fold on the river after flopping a set; especially when there are only a couple of hands you lose to.

Willie Elliot, star of UKIPT Nottingham a few weeks ago, dropped down to 12,000 after folding with a set of queens to a river bet from Lee Dixon. Elliot had squeezed pre flop before betting turn and river. Dixon stuck with him before he led on the river with a rested board of [a][q][9h][6h][4h].

Elliot said to Dixon that the only hand he can have is [ah][kh] and folded. Although Dixon's hand was never exposed, he insisted Elliot made the right call. -- MC

Correct fold by Wille? Hmmm

3:30pm: Not the Year of Romania?
Another player has filled Tudor Purice's seat. Maybe the Romanian busted because he didn't want to be on show with the below hat after losing a prop bet to Patrick Leonard. - MC

3:20pm: Leonard loses a strange hand
If we were to ask you who the highest ranked UK player is in online tournaments right now and you answered Chris Moorman, Toby Lewis or Chris Brammer then, whilst it'd be a fine guess, it'd be wrong.

Right now that honour belongs to Patrick 'Pleno1' Leonard. He's climbed to number three overall in the world on the back of consistently excellent results including chopping the Sunday Warm-up and final tabling the PokerStars 8th Anniversary Sunday Million.

ukipt4_marbella2_day1a_patrick_leonard.jpg

Leonard is cleaning up online

He's not got off to the best of starts in Marbella though as he's down to just 6,300 and his latest bump in the road came in a very strange hand indeed. I only saw the action from the turn but with around 2,700 in the pot and a [Ks][9s][Kc][4h] board on the felt his opponent, who was in the small blind, checked and Leonard followed suit.

The [Qs] river was where it got interesting though, his opponent checked it to Leonard who began contemplating his decision. He was twirling a chip in his hand and the dealer thought that he'd checked as he instructed the small blind to open his cards which he did showing [Ac][9c]. At this point Leonard said: "I didn't check," and the dealer realised his error and called the floor.

The floor arrived and the situation was explained with the dealer admitting his error, the floor ruled that action was frozen due to the error not being on the part of the player so the small blind should not be put at such a disadvantage. This meant that there would be no more betting, Leonard peaked at his cards before pushing them to the muck as he was unable to top [Ac][9c]. "I was going to bet 800," said Leonard to his opponent who intimated he'd have called the bet. So a frustrating end to the hand for Leonard but ultimately one that saved him precious chips. -- NW

3:08pm: Lennaard at the top, Middy at the bottom
Ken Lennaard and Tom Middleton are having very different days.

Middleton was just seen raise-folding to drop down to around 4,000 chips, whereas Lennaard made a flush on the river, got paid, and rose to 52,000.

The Swede raised to 2,500 on the turn and then bet 7,500 on the river of a [9h][qd][js][4h][7h] board. He was called both times and opened up [kh][jh] for top pair that turned into a flush. His opponent mucked. -- MC

2:55pm: Chip counts
Here are a smattering of chip counts from around the room:

Dean Hutchison - 21,000
Lewis Swift - 26,500
Paul Foltyn - 20,500
Richard Milne Senior - 24,000
Thomas Dunwoodie - 8,000
Tomasz Raniszewski - 38,000
Willie Elliot - 24,000
Patrick Leonard 6,300
Vlad Lache - 19,500
Michael Kane - 37,000
Juan Benito - 13,500

Keep an eye on the chip counts page as we'll be updating it throughout the day. -- NW

2:40pm: Kane and a couple of ables
Michael Kane, who finished seventh at UKIPT Edinburgh, got sat with two Spanish celebrities today even if he didn't know it.

Fonsi Nieto was a professional motorcycle rider but now spins wheels on decks as he turned to DJing. He'll have to go back spinning records though as he's already spun his stack down to dust.

Miguel Abellán is the other famous face and he has direct position on Kane. Abellán's day job is to fight bulls no less. Be careful of bluffing him, Mr Kane! -- MC

UKIPT4_Marbella2_Miguel Abellán.jpg

Bluff Abellán and he'll stick a sword in you (not really)

2:25pm: How Ferguson fell
Alex Ferguson popped by media row to inform the blog how he was unfortunate to bust during the last level.

He opened to 250 with pocket kings from in position and was three-bet to 650 by the big blind. Ferguson came back with a four-bet to 1,850 and called when five-bet to 3,600.

The flop fanned [kc][qc][4c] and the big blind led for 4,800. Ferguson shoved and was snapped off by his opponent who held [7c][5c] for a flopped flush. The Scot failed to fill up and headed off to a cash game to try and earn the money back. -- MC

LEVEL UP: BLINDS 75-150

2:05pm: Break it up
No siestas allowed, just a 15-minute break for one and all.

1:50pm: Bad beat leaves Mason short
At most UKIPT events you'll find Jen Mason working behind the scenes in her role as Media Coordinator, however she's a talented player in her own right and has swapped player registration cards for playing cards at this event.

Sadly, it seems her day will be a short one as she is down to 1,000 chips after getting outdrawn in a huge pot. Holding pocket twos in a multi-way pot she connected nicely with the [8][8][2] flop, Mason bet 450 only to get check-raised to 2,700 a bet she just called. On the [Qh] turn her opponent bet 6,000, she shoved for 14,000 and her opponent called with [9][8]. The river though was another queen to give her opponent a bigger full-house. -- NW

ukipt4_marbella2_day1a_jen_mason.jpg

Mason got it in good but couldn't hold

1:45pm: Foltyn outfoxes Benito
UK tournament titan Paul 'Pab' Foltyn is sharing a table with Juan Benito and the two of them just clashed in a pot that went to showdown.

On the turn of a [5h][Jh][3c][2h] board Foltyn bet 1,200 and Benito smooth called. The [Qs] fell on the river and both players declined to add any more chips to the pot, Foltyn turned over [Kd][Kh], Benito looked back at his cards - the universal poker sign for 'I can't beat that - and showed [Ad][Jc]. Pot to Foltyn.

1:35pm: Great start for the champion, not so for Ferguson
Ludovic Geilich took down this title last year and has made a cracking start as he tries to defend his title. The blog noticed he still had a large stack despite folding on the turn in a three-bet pot. He informed the blog that he doubles up the first hand he played!

In level one, he'd opened to 175 and called in position after an opponent three-bet to 450. The flop fell [7][6][4] and Ludovic bet 600 and called when check-raised up to 1,200. The turn came as a jack and he raised to 3,600 after he was faced with a 1,450 bet. Call.

The board completed with a four and Ludovic over-shoved for around 14,000 when his opponent checked to him and was called once more. Ludovic had a full house with pocket jacks, beating out his opponent's [ac][jc]. He's sat behind 37,000.

Not having a great start was Alex Ferguson, who has busted already. He was seen leaving the tournament room in a hurry and not returning. He's one of five who have busted out of the 245-player field so far. -- MC

1:20pm: Back for more
Plenty of players are taking advantage of the ability to register anytime up until the start of level five. Among those to take their seats recently are two players who final tabled the last UKIPT in Nottingham. Willie Elliot and Juan Benito started that final table first and second in chips respectively, Elliot finished fourth, whilst Benito busted in sixth.
And Alex Ferguson, who finished ninth at UKIPT2 Brighton has also just taken his seat. -- NW

1:10pm: No power in the hat for Purice
Tudor Purice may be wearing an Angry Birds hat after losing a bet but he failed to harness its obvious powers in a hand and folded on the river to drop to around 15,000.

The Romanian opened from the hijack and was called by both players in the blinds. Purice bet the flop and turn and was called by the big blind both times. The board rested as [9h][2d][ac][5c][9s] and the big blind led out for 1,100. Purice gave it a couple of minutes thought before releasing his hand. -- MC

No hat-trick for Purice just yet

1pm: There's more to the UKIPT than poker
If ever there was a UKIPT to bust in level one then it's probably this one as those lucky enough to be in Marbella this week will have plenty to do should the poker not go as planned. There's of course a multitude of side events - including a €2000 + €200 High Roller that starts on Friday - but it's what happening off the felt that had a lot of the players at last night's welcome drinks excited.

Yes the UKIPT/ESPT will be throwing not one, not two but three parties during the festival. Two of those are based around the World Cup as both Spain and England play their opening fixtures during this tournament. So on Friday night at 9pm there's a Spain Match Experience party with free food, drink and a giant screen right here at the Hotel H10 Andalucia Plaza.

Then the powers that be are really ramping it up on Saturday as the Official Party - Open Bar and BBQ at the beach bar Chiringuito Los Espigones kicks off at 10pm and runs until 11.30pm. But then the party goes into extra time as the England Match Experience starts at midnight at the same venue. So the lock of the week is that they'll be some sore heads come final table time on Sunday.

Throw in the multiactivity experience, Flipout Freeroll extravaganza and a live stream of the final two days (Spanish language only) and you've got a worldie of a festival. -- NW

12:45pm: 200 and rising
The tournament board is showing that 200 players are currently registered and in their seats for Day 1A action. There's plenty of empty tables, each containing a dealer button and cut card but no players, so expect that number to rise before late registration closes at the start of level five.

Some players who are already betting, raising and folding are: Thomas Dunwoodie, Jen Mason, Sonia Padovani, Tomasz Raniszewski and Ken Lennaard. The legendary Swedish player, who with over $1,500,000 in lifetime earnings sits 15th on the all-time Swedish money list, lives out here in Marbella and is a regular fixture at the tournaments here. -- NW

12:35pm: Time for change
Paul Foltyn and Tom Middleton have made the trip out to Spain for a holiday, sorry, to play some poker. Middleton hasn't made it to the tournament room yet but Foltyn is already in his seat.

He told the blog he'd been to Las Vegas for the WSOP the last eight years and needed a break from it. He and Middleton plan to make a holiday out here if they bust from the Main Event.

It comes as no surprise to see Richard Milne Snr at a UKIPT. What was a surprise was not seeing the Scot at the welcome drinks that were held last night. He must've had a late flight, as this man never misses out on a free bar! -- MC

12:20pm: The plan for today
At UKIPT2 Nottingham the day ones were ten levels long to accommodate the masses that came through the door.

This event is still expecting a big number this week but, as it's the UKIPT on holiday and there are World Cup games to be played, the plan is to play eight one hour levels on both starting flights. Play should be wrapped up before 9pm local time then. -- MC

12:10pm: Shuffle up and deal
It doesn't matter where you are in Europe, if Toby Stone is the tournament director, cards will be in the air bang on time!

Many tables are starting short-handed as players pick up their player bags, register with the casino and find their way to their seats.

Dean Hutchison seemed keen to add a second title to UKIPT Edinburgh he won in January and was ready and waiting for the first card to be pitched at his table. Lewis Swift can be seen sat one more table along. He made a deep run at UKIPT2 Nottingham just a few weeks ago and been drawn out of position to Patrick Leonard, who's currently ranked number one for the UK in Pocket Fives online MTT rankings.

Leonard is happy after winning a prop bet against Tudor Purice. The latter's sat one more table along and is sporting a silly hat (pictures to come) after losing the bet against his friend and rival. -- MC

12pm: Fun in the sun about to begin
Let's get on tour! Yes the UKIPT has packed its bags and sun cream (factor 52 obviously) and popped back over to Marbella for another Season 4 summer holiday. We're once again ensconced at the wonderful Casino Marbella in the Costa del Sol and ready for five action packed days of poker.

ukipt4_marbella_ludovic_geilich.jpg

Geilich grabbed the gold a year ago

If you include all the UKIPT Series events and the EPT London/UKIPT grand finals, then this is the 40th UKIPT event. We've had four double winners (Nick Abou Risk, Joeri Zandvliet, Duncan McLellan and Wojtek Barzantny) but, despite Max Silver coming close twice, never a double champion of the same event. That could finally happen here though as Ludovic Geilich - who won this event a year ago - is here and playing today.

We also anticipate the likes of EPT10 Grand Final runner-up Jack Salter, UKIPT3 leader board runner-up Neil Raine, UKIPT4 leader board winner Tom Hall and Team PokerStars Pro Leo Margets to take to the felt today.

It's approaching kick off, cards will be in the air soon.

Key UKIPT4 Marbella2 facts:

- 20,000 starting stack
- Blinds starting at 25/50 for 400 big blinds
- One hour levels and we'll play eight today.
- Two Day 1s then the Day 1 survivors will merge for Days 2, 3 and 4 until a winner is crowned (cue winner's photo, trophy swinging around, celebrations by the pool).
- There's a live satellite here at Casino Marbella tonight. It's a €150 +€15 freezeout and it starts at 6pm local time.
- The full festival schedule can be seen here.

UKIPT4 Marbella2 Day 1A: Level 5-8 updates (400/800, ante 100)

9pm: Done for the day
Day 1A is in the books and Ken Lennaard has leapfrogged Christian Bauer to bag up the overnight chip lead.

The Swede won a huge 120,000 chip pot against Julian Stuer on the penultimate hand of the night. On the turn of a [7c][Qs][10h][9c] board Stuer three-bet all-in with pocket jacks and Lennaard snap called with [Kd][Jh]. The river was a brick and he scooped the monster pot.

A full recap of the day's play is on the way. -- NW

8:40pm: Last four hands
The clock has been paused and each table will play four more hands before bagging up for the night.

8.30pm: Gone but not forgotten
These players came oh so close to making Day 2 but have fallen during the final level: Juan Roselló Ojeda, Jimmy Cinquemani, Huw Bell, Mario Peñalver, Jose Javier Patiño, Fabio Scepi, Juan Escrig, Anders Dahlin, Thomas Dunwoodie, Clive Saxby, Michal Casnocha, Josep Galindo, Eduardo De Las Rivas , Erik Loschan,Roberto Diaz, Sergio Antunez, Mariano Maldonaldo, Miguel Abellán, Meelis Jogi, Robert Wirth, Marcel Schmidt, John Burberry, Alejandro Rodrigo, Gregory Beaufait, Bonifacio Martinez, Vlad Lache and Borja Domingo. -- NW

8.15pm: Geilich down but far from out
At the start of level seven Ludovic Geilich told the PokerStars Blog that he'd be delighted if he could make it through the day with the 60,000 stack that he had at the time, well he's got some work to do as he's down to 45,000 after a three barrel salvo went awry.

He raised under-the gun to 1,600 and Tom Bedell, who was in the small blind was the only caller. On the [Jh][5s][5h][Js][5d] board Geilich bet 1,800, 4,100 and 14,200 respectively with the final bet setting Bedell all-in. The Norwegian called all three bets including the all-in. "I play the board," said Geilich after Bedell called his river shove, Bedell rolled over [Jc][9c] for a bigger boat. -- NW

8pm: Poker gods answer Godino's prayers
Gabriel Godino just got a much needed reprieve to double his very short stack to a still short, but no longer quite as short stack.

The Spaniard shoved for 1,450 (less than two big blinds) with [Qs][7s] and Richard Milne Snr isolated all-in for roughly 12,000 with [As][9h]. The others left them to it and the dealer burned and turned a [2s][9s][Qh] flop, "that's bad," said Milne Snr who had gone from first to worst in the blink of an eye. The board ran out [2c][8s] and Milne Snr quipped "I'm still here," as he counted his remaining 10,000 or so chips. -- NW

7:50pm: Top 5 counts
With one level left to play these are the top five stacks in the room:

Ken Lennaard - 94,000
Christian Bauer - 87,000
Paul Kristoffersson - 86,000
Terry Carter - 85,000
Elias Miguel - 72,000

End of day chip leader is up for grabs! -- MC

LEVEL UP: BLINDS 400-800, ante 100

7:45pm: Beachy!
If you're a PokerStars Qualifier and are wondering what you're going to get in your player bag then the wait is over thanks to Team PokerStars Online's Dale Philip who posted its contents on twitter. The PokerStars Blog is incredibly jealous of the beach ball!

7:40pm: Six figure club
The six-figure club is an exclusive club of one at the moment as Christian Bauer, with 110,000, is the only man to breach that figure. His closest challenger appears to be Paul Kristoffersson who has 92,000. -- NW

7:30pm: Elliot not dancing anymore
UKIPT Nottingham finalist Willie Elliot won't be returning to a Main Event final table this week after he busted to Ian Holmes.

He raised to 1,200 before Holmes tried to open the pot to 1,600 as he hadn't see Elliot's raise. The dealer tried to enforce a raise to 2,400 but the players called the floor who ruled a min raise to 1,800 would suffice.

Once that confusion was sorted, Elliot jammed 12,500 with pocket nines and was called by Holmes, holding big-slick. Holmes flopped an ace and rivered a king to oust the popular Elliot. -- MC

7:18pm: Poker face
How's good your poker face (and Spanish)? And do you recognise your own poker face in this collection?

7:08pm: It's Ludo time
Defending champion Ludivic Geilich's amazing start was documented in the blog earlier and since then his day had evolved in typical Geilch fashion - swingy! He spoke to the blog in the break about his day.

"I started off well today, from 20k straight to 40k before getting up to 60k and after that I probably played a bit badly. I went down to about 26k about two and a half hours ago and now I'm back up to 60k!

UKIPT4_Marbella2_Ludovic Geilich.jpg

Jump aboard the Geilich defence roller-coaster

"I had kings against jacks. I opened early position, got three-bet from the small blind, I four-bet click it back and just five-bet jammed for about 20,000. I call and hold.

"I keep saying to myself I'm going to relax but I keep playing like my usual self. I'm going to have to calm myself down a bit; I'll be over the moon if I can get to the end of the day with the stack I have now!" -- MC

7pm: Drip, drip, drop
Over the first six levels 95 of the 293 players have been eliminated from the tournament, those who exited during level six included: Nils Neubauer, Vitaly Shepitko, Fernando Marín Díaz, David Hernandez, David Lasierra, Stefan Schillhabel, Borja Chavet, Pedro De Miranda, Alejandro Clemente, Zbigniew Wieczorek, Patrick Schulze, Krzysztof Gajek and Amilcar Helstone. -- NW

Blinds up: 300/600 ante 75

6:37pm: Break time
That's the end of the third quarter, players are now on a 15 minute break. -- NW

6:35pm: Casnocha chips up
Michal Casnocha just added almost 50% to his stack without going to showdown. The action was started by Pawel Kapczynski, who raised to 800 from under-the-gun, he got no fewer than four callers including Graham Phipps (button) and Casnocha (big blind).

On the [Qh][9s][7h] flop it checked to Phipps who bet 1,650 into a pot of roughly 4,900, Casnocha then moved all-in for 9,700 and it folded back to Phipps. He tanked for about 30 seconds before folding what he said was a straight draw. -- NW

6:32pm: Heaney to the double
Ciaran Heaney found a lovely spot to get ace-king in and more than double up his 3,625 stack.

After an under-the-gun open to 850 and a call from Roberto Ruiz on the button, Heaney squeezed all in from the big blind. The original raiser folded but Ruiz called.

Heaney: [as][ks]
Ruiz: [8c][8d]

The board ran [9s][6s][ad][3d][7c] to pair Heaney's ace. -- MC

6:25pm: Pab treading water
Some people are forced to grind it out....

6:15pm: The aces in Spain fall mainly on Raine
Some people get all the luck...

However despite that fact Raine is down to 16,000. -- NW

6:10pm: There are worse tournaments to bust
UKIPT Marbella has to be up there with the best places to bust a tournament. Okay, no one really wants to bust but when you realise where you are and the fact the biggest football tournament on the planet is about to start, the smile comes back.

Those smiling, sort of, include: Ignacio Romera, Chris Fraser, Divijay Sadarangani, James Bridgewater, Mikołaj Zawadzki, Julian Lange, Carlos Sanchez, Daniel Tighe, Jokin Ruiz, Jesus Garrido, Paul Testud, Neil Strike, Ivan Asensio, Luis Cayuela, Gonzalo Agueros, Jorge Vaquero, Majid Iqbal, Rory Macdonald and Dragan Kostic. -- MC

5:50pm: Leonard loses flip to bust
The stunning online form of Patrick Leonard has, for today at least, not transferred itself to the live arena. He three-bet all-in over a raise and a call for his last 20 big blinds with pocket tens and got a call from Bernat Terre, who was the original raiser. The Spaniard held [Ac][Qc] and after flopping a club he hit two more on the turn and river to eliminate Leonard. -- NW

LEVEL UP: BLINDS 200/400, ante 50

5:40pm: Chip counts
The current chip leader looks to be Ken Lennaard, the Swede is up to 88,000 and looking like he's in the zone. Here's how some of the other notables are getting on:
Carsten Joh - 18,000
Dean Hutchison - 16,300
Juan Benito - 5,100
Lewis Swift - 13,000
Ludovic Geilich - 20,000
Miguel Abellán - 55,000
Paul Foltyn - 29,000
Peter Barrable - 19,000
Richard Milne Snr - 29,000
Thomas Dunwoodie - 11,000
Tomasz Raniszewski - 16,000
Vlad Lache - 6,400
Willie Eilliot - 18,000
Sonia Padavani - 30,000

Paxti Salinas - 41,000

5:35pm: No rebuild for Goulder
Alex Goulder didn't manage the rebuild from the 6,000 he was left with at the last break.

He told the blog that there were a couple of limps and an isolation raise before he shoved 6,400 with pocket sixes. The raiser called with eight and held to bust the Brit.

Goulder wasn't downhearted and will enjoy some holiday time before playing the High Roller in a couple of days. -- MC

5:20pm: Kane feels the pain
UKIPT Edinburgh finalist Michael Kane has dropped to 23,000 after Anders Dahlin forced him off a hand.

Both players were in early position and went heads-up to a [7d][qd][js] flop. Kane bet 1,000 and called after his Swedish opponent check-raised to 3,200.

On the [3d] turn Dahlin led for 6,200 and Kane called after staring down his opponent. The board completed with the [tc] and Dahlin wasted little time in betting 14,175. Kane went into the tank, gave Dahlin another look up and down, went a little red in the face but ultimately folded to hand the pot to the Swede. -- MC

5:10pm: The numbers are in
The start of level five means that too late is the cry if you want to buy-in today. That means we can confirm that 293 players entered the fray on Day 1A. Over the opening four levels we lost 17% of the field as 243 players still have a stack to play with.

However, Michael McKevith, Richard Cashman, Pedro Garcia, Curtis Watson, Antonio Ivars, María del Rosario Velazquez Garzón, Aitor Martinez, Lander Bereciartua, Daniel Gutierrez, Antonio Lopez del Alamo, Sergio Martinez, Jesus Reina, Paul Coughlan and Alf Martinsson are all out. -- NW

5pm: Goulder at halftime
Alex Goulder is one of the rising stars of the UK poker scene. He's here in Marbella for Day 1A and the blog caught up with him in the tunnel about his day so far.

"I wish you'd have asked he half an hour ago as it was going really well then but I just lost two pots, one of them really big. I lost queens versus king-jack all in pre against a short stack.

UKIPT4_Marbella2_Alex Goulder.jpg

Goulder needs to rebuild stack

"In the really big pot I peeled a three-bet with [qc][tc] and the flop came king-jack-three, one club and two spades. I check-raised to get it in with this guy and he jammed with nines, which was kind of optimistic! I tuned the flush draw and then bricked off - too many outs and all that! I have 6k now so we'll see."
-- MC

4.50pm: The main attraction?
There's more poker than just the main event taking place today here in Marbella as there are two other tournaments to get your teeth into this Wednesday.

At 6pm local time there's a €150 + €15 freezeout satellite to the Main Event and then at 8pm local time there's a €200 + €20 NL Hold'em freezeout. Come on down. -- NW

4.40pm: Welcome to Spain
Although yesterday's temperature was 24 degrees it was mild for this time of year in Marbella. But, the Spanish know how to welcome people warmly, with a welcome drinks party of course.

So last night, despite a light sprinkling of rain, everyone gathered outside in the pool area at the hotel to enjoy one of many free bars that the UKIPT/ESPT are laying on over the course of the festival.

UKIPT4 Marbella2: Lennaard shines brightest on Day 1A

Isn't it nice to have a holiday on the Spanish coast? Bad beer, all day English breakfasts and reruns of Only Fools and Horses in every bar. It's just like being at home but without the rain! Thankfully most Spanish resorts have moved on from those days, especially Marbella, where you are more likely to gaze at yachts while sampling fresh seafood than the above option.

The UKIPT called its Spanish cousin ESPT and told them the poker festival is on again after the 2013 success story. Day 1A took place today and attracted 293 runners from all over Europe and beyond. PokerStars' regional tours are attracting an ever wider player pool and the events are much richer as a result.

Ken Lennaard Day 1A chip leader.jpg

Swedish legend Ken Lennaard hasn't lost his skills

Today Ken Lennaard, from Sweden claimed the most loftiest end of day position with 149,900. He grabbed the top spot near the end of play but it was close race and Neil Raine (101,700) Christian Bauer (125,400), Anthony Fox (124,800), Paul Kristoffersson (98,600), Patxi Salinas (85,700) and Terry Carter (107,300) will all be happy with their days.

Lennaard had this to say about his day, "I played solid all day but it was a real roller coaster. A guy tilted away his stack early on to me so I was up to 50,000 after two hours. Then I steadily built to 130,000 before a crazy last half hour. I lost to a two outer and three outer to drop to 80,000 and then won a huge 130,000 chip pot right at the end to get it all back."

Chips Rained down on Neil today

Ludovic Geilich is a very well known player across the poker world these days after his televised exploits on the EPT shows but his breakthrough as a player came at this very event last year where he stormed to victory. The champ was back today, doubled up on the first hand he played and went on a typical Geilich roller coaster ride. His stack fluctuated wildly as he struggled to control himself and stay out of pots as the day progressed. It's why he's adored and he managed to get through with 19,500.

UKIPT4_Marbella2_Ludovic Geilich.jpg

Ludo's going to Ludo

A total of 119 players made it through the day but Alex Goulder, Wille Elliot, Partick Leonard, Tudor Purice and Tom Middleton were not amongst them. There was sympathy for them until the realisation of where the tournament is located, all the side events, parties and World Cup games on offer. They'll be just fine.

No final table repeat for Elliot

As ever for a second starting flight, the field is expected to be a lot larger than today and many big names will be out in force. The red spade will be represented by Jake Cody who's jetted in from Las Vegas, Leo Margets and Dale Philip. Sin Melin, as a Tour Ambassador, will drag herself away from the pool to make an appearance too.

4:26pm: The whistle's blown
This flight has made the halfway point and a 20-minute break has gotten under way. You'll find level five updates in a new post here. --MC

4:25pm: Show one, show all
A small argument broke out at table 37 where tensions were running high. There was a [Qc][8d][7h][2d] board on the felt, Jose Gonzalez had moved all-in for 8,400 into a pot of 11,650 and Thomas O'Shea was contemplating his decision.

The Irishman who is in seat three, who had chipped up to 57,500, took a look at his cards in such a way that Vladislav Saveyev, in seat nine, thought that Nick Wealthall in seat four had been able to see O'Shea's hand. "Show one, show all," said Sayeyev. Given that this was a big decision and given that he hadn't seen the hand Wealthall objected to Sayeyev getting involved saying: "you're not even in the hand, why are you even getting involved?"

The floor was called, perhaps a little unnecessarily and it was swiftly ruled that play would continue as normal. After about 30 seconds O'Shea called and showed [As][Qd]. But he was behind to Saveyev who had pocket kings and the cowboys held on the [5h] river. -- NW

4:15pm: It's that time!

4:05pm: Gavin Gone
He was one of the first players to 30,000 but Fintan Gavin has recently departed.

Louise Duffy kindly filled the blog in on the details. She raised before Javier Mellado three-bet. One player called the bet before Gavin shoved for 8,000 with pocket fours. Mellado was the only caller, holding nines, and held to bust the former UKIPT champion. -- MC

3:55pm: Tinnion wins
The Spanish for snap call is, according to google translate, 'complemento de llamada'. And that's what Robert Tinnion did when Antonio Vallespi three-bet all-in on a [5c][6h][6s] flop. The Spaniard had bet 3,300, Tinnion had raised to 6,600, Vallespi shoved for 19,000 at which point Tinnion snap called.

When the cards were turned over Vallespi saw that he was drawing very thin as he held [9h][5h] whilst Tinnion had [Ac][6c]. The [7c] turn gave Vallespi some additional outs but he missed them all on the [10s] river. -- NW

3:45pm: Gomila and Armesto soaring
Tomeu Gomila is a very well respected player in Spain and is seventh on their all-time money list with nearly $900k in winnings. He's going along nicely today and had gotten up to 54,000 already.

Also doing well at his table is Marcos Armesto who's up to around 45,000 after eliminating an opponent. The player in question raised under-the-gun to 525 and was called by Sin Melin in the next seat and Armesto in the small blind.

The flop fanned [7s][3s][3c] and Armesto led for 1,500 and was called by both players. The turn was the [qc] and Armesto bet out 3,500 and called after his opponent shoved for 6,500. Melin folded.

Armesto opened [5c][3d] for trips and held against his opponent's [ad][qs]. -- MC

LEVEL UP: BLINDS 100-200, ante 25

3:30pm: Some of the fallen few
Dave Shallow, Jode Urrutia, Vikrum Mehta, Rowan van Embden, Pia Jeppesen, Jaume Alomar, Alejandro Piñeiro, Pablo Martinez and Jonatan Casero have all departed in recent time. Apparently Shallow wasn't really in the mood to play poker today after a big night out last night. -- MC

3:15pm: Chip counts

Paul Berende - 21,700

3:05pm: Salter and Slade shaking things up
Jack Salter and Nick Slade are two of the players in the overspill room which is situated down in a dungeon bar. Both have less than their starting stacks but both played a pot aggressively to gain some back.

Salter was heads up with Eric Paz and 5,100 had ventured into the middle by the turn of a [kd][jc][ac][8d] board. Salter checked to face a 2,425 bet that he treated to a check-raise all in for 10,400. Paz tanked for three minutes before folding.

Moments later, Slade was forcing Leo Margets off a hand to get up to 14,000. He opened to 300 before the Team PokerStars Pro three-bet to 700 from the next seat. Slade and one other called to see an [as][5c][tc] flop where Margets continued for 1,100. The third party folded but Slade check-raised to 2,500 and that was enough to win the pot. He flashed [8h][5h] and raked in the pot. Margets dropped back to 19,000.-- MC

2:50pm: Melin multi-tabling
"I sat down at the wrong table," Full Tilt Poker Ambassador Sin Melin told the PokerStars Blog. "I played a couple of hands before I realised I was in Dale Garrard's seat and he was in mine," she continued. To be fair both players are in the 10 seat at their adjacent tables. Her table move seems to have checked her momentum. "I lost 4k with tens against a short stacks aces after I moved tables," she told the blog. -- NW

2:40pm: Martinez makes a great call
As the PokerStars Blog arrived at Jake Cody's table to see the Team PokerStars Pro with a stack of 60,000 in front of him a big hand was playing out and the clock had been called on Alberto Martínez.

There was a complete board of [2h][3s][7d][10h][Ks] on the felt and his opponent had bet 10,000, which was enough to set Martinez all-in. The count was under 10 by the time Martinez announced call, his opponent shook his head and showed [As][Qs] whilst Martinez opened [8h][7h] for a fantastic call. -- NW

LEVEL UP: BLINDS 75-150

2:07pm: Let the sunshine in
The players are now on a 20-minute break as the first two levels have been completed. -- NW

2:05pm: Business as usual for Cody
It's fair to say Jake Cody's had a good opening two levels...

2pm: Unbluffable doesn't mean untouchable
Earlier on Fintan Gavin claimed he was unbluffable. That statement probably didn't do too much good for his image if he was going to continue to bluff, which he always was.

He made it to the river in a heads up pot and a board that rested as [9c][2c][6s][7d][9h]. Gavin fired out 2,100 from the small blind and was called by an opponent in the cut-off. Neither player wanted to expose their holding and eventually Gavin announced that he had ace high before mucking upon seeing his opponent's [js][9d] for trips. That put Gavin back down to his starting stack.

In other news, Dutch pro Paul Berende has just taken a seat. -- MC

1:55pm: Limp pays off for Kirlenko
Artur Kirlenko just scooped a meaty pot, one in which he started the action off by limping from early position. It passed to Simon Hemsworth in the cut-off he also limped only for the the button to make it 525 to go, Andelfo Serrano called from the big blind and then both Kirlenko and Hemsworth did likewise.

So there was 2,150 in the pot by the time the dealer fanned a [5c][6h][2d] flop, action checked to the button who bet 1,325, it was enough to get rid of Hemsworth but Serrano and Kirlenko both called. The [10s] turn was checked through and the [5s] completed the board. After Serrano checked Kirlenko bet 3,550, the button was the only caller, but mucked when Kirlenko showed [4h][3h] for the flopped straight. -- NW

1:45pm: More exits
A couple more exits to tell you about as Jose Cordero and Pietro Culotta are also out. -- NW

1:35pm: Hemsworth straight into profit
Simon Hemsworth has moved up to around 26,000 chips after he turned a straight against an opponent who flopped top pair.

The final board read [6c][9c][7s][5d][tc] and the big blind led for 1,500 and 2,000 on the turn and river with [kd][9s]. Hemsworth was in the cut-off and called both bets with [8d][4d]. -- MC

1:25pm: Man down
We've lost our first player and the unfortunate soul - or fortunate if he likes sunshine - is Nathan Curtis. -- NW

1:15pm: A Table of Phils
For some unknown reason, Phil seems to be a very popular name for top poker players. There's a couple of Phils playing today and they're at the same table, only the Phil is in their surnames and not their first names.

PokerStars Team Online member Dale Philip has jetted in from Thailand to play and had PokerStars Qualifier Tony Phillips for company.

Phillips used to be a regular on the poker circuit and has amassed over $380,000 in tournament winnings. He decided to swap life as a poker pro for a more normal life after he became a dad for the first time but that does not mean he's lost any of the skills he was renowned for.

Back in 2008 he came tenth in a PLO WSOP event that was eventually won by Team PokerStars Pro Vanessa Selbst, for her first bracelet. In the lead up to the final table Phillips was on a tear and Selbst admitted later that she feared the young Brit's aggressive style the most and was the reason she took a marginal line to eliminate him early from the final table. Big respect indeed! -- MC

LEVEL UP: BLINDS 50-100

1:10pm: Can you catch Cody?
Team PokerStars Pro Jake Cody is the early chip leader after getting a near double up inside the first level. Holding [9h][9c] he flopped a set on a [Qh][9s][2h] board and found an opponent willing to commit his chips with [As][Qs]. The board ran out [7d][Jd] and Cody, who was down to around 18,000 at the time, is up to 36,000. -- NW

1pm: Fintan Gavin the unbluffable
Watching Fintan Gavin play, whatever the tournament stage, is always good value for money and today is no exception. He's already up to 30,000 after bluffing his neighbour in a big pot.

They were heads up to the turn where the board read [6c][7d][5h][5d] and Gavin bet 1,400 from under the gun. His opponent was in the big blind and check-raised to 4,000 before Gavin three-bet to 8,000. The big blind stared down the Irishman before releasing his hand, only to be shown [qd][8d]!

"I had a flush draw and I was committed," commented Gavin.

"Wow, I like your style!" said table mate Louise Duffy.

"I might be one of the worst players here but I'm unbluffable!" Gavin came back with. -- MC

12:50pm: Now that's commitment
As you're probably aware there's a big tournament series going on in Las Vegas right now, one that Jake Cody has been playing in. But, the Brit was not going to miss this event.

The first leg of #Jake'sJourney was a five hour flight from Las Vegas to New York, he then had a two hour layover before getting back on a plane and taking a seven hour flight to Madrid. It was then time for another hour layover, before taking a short hop to Marbella on a one hour flight. Here's hoping Cody's tournament lasts at least as long. -- NW

12:40pm: Two rooms
There's still over four hours of late registration to go, but there are already more players in the field today than the final number from Day 1A. As a result the 350 players are split between two rooms, the main poker room and 'La Cassata' which is a short walk outside and then down some steps.

There are 15 poker tables currently in use down there with Nick Wealthall, Sam Grafton, Dara Davey, Dara O'Kearney and Leo Margets plying their trade away from the noises of slot machines. The latter two are sharing the same table. -- NW

12:30pm: Slow start after a big night
Poker players aren't the most punctual of people so it comes as no surprise to see the room half empty.

Andrew Hedley is in his seat but he's missing something. He lost his voice after a big night out on the town. Rumours are floating around about this big night, with many players in holiday mode, but they won't be shared as what goes on in Marbella stays in Marbella!

Louise Duffy, Joe Whittaker, Paul McTaggart, Gaelle Garcia Diaz, Francisco Torres and Raul Mestre are some of the better-behaved players who seem to be fresh and ready for eight levels of poker. -- MC

12:15pm: Gift of the Gav
A thick Irish accent drifted across the casino like jasmine on a summer breeze, a quick look up (although it wasn't needed) confirmed that Fintan Gavin had arrived, albeit fashionably late.

12:15pm: Name dropping
Most observers reckon that in a tournament with two starting days that Day 1B is always tougher than Day 1A. That theory is backed up by some of the players in the field today. As well as assorted Team Pros you'll find: David Yan, Sam Grafton, Dara O'Kearney, Duncan McLellan, David Lappin, David Gent and Nick Newport in the field today.

We'll be tracking the names, notables and big stacks over on this chip count page throughout the day. -- NW

12:05pm: Shuffle up and deal
Tournament director Toby Stone made some announcements to the players and cards are in the air. -- MC

11:50am: The sun in the fun continues
Welcome back to Casino Marbella for Day 1B of UKIPT Marbella. Everything's been reset; the tournament clock's been wound back to level one, fresh 20,000-chip stacks are out on each table and we've even put the sun back in exactly the same spot as it was yesterday.

One thing has changed though as a whole new crowd of players will be in attendance. A crowd it will be too as today promises to way outnumber those who chose to play Day 1A. Amongst the masses will be Pokerstars' Jake Cody, Leo Margets and Dale Philip; Full Tilt's Sin Melin, UKIPT host Nick Wealthall and a host of other big name players to wet the appetite.

Cards will be in the air at midday, so join us back here then.

9:15pm: Cody third overall heading into Day 2
Team PokerStars Pro Jake Cody almost ended the day as chip leader with 131,700. He'll head into Day 2 in third overall and was pipped to the end of Day 1B chip lead on the final hand by Ursu Denis, who bagged up 146,300. A full recap of the day's events will be posted on the blog soon. -- MC

8:55pm: Pause the clock
Tournament director Toby Stone has announced that the 253 remaining players will be dealt four more hands before play finishes for the day. -- NW

8:45pm: Breaking News: Cody loses a pot
They said it couldn't happen today, but it has. Team PokerStars Pro Jake Cody has lost a pot. To be fair though, his opponent had to have quads versus his full house to pull it off.

The action was three-handed and to the river of a [5d][td][5h][6h][5c] board with around 14,000 in the middle. Raffaele Sorrentino led out for 10,000 from the small blind and Omar Abdelaziz tank-folded from mid position. Cody was on the button and tank-called and mucked upon seeing Sorrentino's [4d][5s].

"Did you have a ten?" asked Abdelaziz to Cody, who nodded and responded, "I wanted to fold."

"Did you have a ten?" he asked back and added, "Good fold" when it was confirmed. Cody down to 135,000, still clear chip leader. -- MC

8:30pm: Yan short-stacking
David Yan's stack has headed south since the last break but he's grinding away. Both he and Leo McClean went deep at EPT London last year and the latter provided a few needed chips for the Kiwi.

Around 5,000 had made it into the middle before both players checked the [2d][4c][2h] flop. The turn came as the [ks] and Yan crane bet 2,300. McClean quickly folded to drop a little to 48,000. -- MC

8:10pm: More for Delagdo
Team PokerStars Online's Vicente Delgado has even more chips after Vicente Zamorano shoved into his big-slick pre flop.

Zamorano's shove was for 12,075 with [7c][9d] and the board ran [jd][8c][9s][as][5s]. Delgado's [ac][kd] held up and he moved up to 94,000. -- MC

Blinds up: 400/800 ante 100

8pm: Level seven fallers
These players fell one level short of making Day 2: Manuel Pleguezelo, Andrew Miles, Koray Suler, Pablo Rey, Edgar Vidal, Stefano Rossomando, Jorge López, Fabio Sperling, Diego Benitez, Roger Sanchez, Artem Chindin, Gonzalo Rocanin, Fraser Macintyre, Ian Drake, Teresa Ramos, David Gent, Zeik Tuit, Garrett Devine and Rory Curtis. -- NW

7:55pm: How go Team Pro?
So Jake Cody is the chip leader but what about the rest of the players flying the Red Spade with pride today. The UK's Dale Philip is in full flow at his table, sharing a story from a time where he found himself in a sticky situation abroad, as for his stack he's back up to 19,500 but it appears to have been a grind today for the online grinder.

ukipt4_marbella_day1b_vincente_delgado.jpg

Spain's two representatives are faring better, Team PokerStars Pro Leo Margets is up to 34,000 and looks calm, whilst Spanish Team PokerStars Online's Vicente Delgado is doing best of all, he had 46,000 at the start of this level but is now up to 79,000. -- NW

7:45pm: All is well in Grafton's world
A weird occurrence happened earlier in the day; Sam Grafton was playing in the tournament and couldn't be heard from the next room where media row in situated. Those aware of the Grafton species, know that's a very strange indeed, as if he's still in a tournament everyone can normally hear him.

Fear not followers as all is well and normal again in Grafton's world.

"JACK! JACK! Come here, we're having a punt!" shouted Grafton at Jack Salter who was sat at the bar in the tournament room. Salter sprinted over to see a three-way all in.

Björn Wiesler was very short and moved all in for around 4,000 from early position. Isabelo Costas was a couple of seats along and three-bet all in for around 8,000. Grafton made the call and the rest of the table folded.

Wiesler: [8c][9c]
Costas: [kd][jd]
Grafton: [kc][jc]

"What! How can you have that?" Grafton said to Costas.

The board ran [3h][as][7s][qc][6d] to bust Weisler.

"Nice doing business with you, " said Grafton as he shook Costas' hand. He's up to around 40,000. -- MC

7:35pm: Cody cruises into chip lead
Team PokerStars Pro Jake Cody has been comfortably stacked all day, he's currently got 130,000 which by our reckoning is good for the chip lead. He had to work hard to attain that lofty position though as Denzel Spekman just put him in a horrible spot on the river.

ukipt4_marbella_day1b_jake_cody2.jpg

Cody has claimed the chip lead

In the hand in question four players saw a [10s][Qh][6c] flop, Cody, who was the original raiser, c-bet 3,400 into a pot of 6,000 and Spekman was the only caller. Both players checked the [6s] turn and the [Ac] completed the board. Cody reached for chips and bet 7,800 only for Spekman to raise to 21,600 from a stack of around 40,000.

This turn of events caused Cody to lean back in his chair and he stayed there for a couple of minutes contemplating his decision. He then cut out the requisite calling chips from his stack and pondered some more. About 15 seconds later he quietly announced call, Spekman showed [Jc][9c] for the busted straight draw, Cody showed [Ah][10h] to claim the pot and the chip lead. -- NW

7:24pm: Free to watch the football all week
Some of those who busted in the last hour included: Jose Delgado, Mikko Väisänen, Nicholas Samson, Maria De Miranda, Alexander Linden, Viktor Belyaev, Christophe Malaurie, Björn Wiesler, Elias Piloti, Keith Littlewood, Dale Gerrad, Carlos Gómez, Tom Oliver, Marlon Plaumann, Maximilian Zorn, Giancarlo Oliviero, Dan Williams, Abigail Loutan, Lars Langset, Begenov Orazovich, David Caceres, Robert Coughlan, Odd Langset, Mateusz Rypulak, Mario Cano, Mateusz Koczwara and Arran Tuffrey. -- MC

7:15pm: The wait for a triple winner continues
Duncan McLellan is playing tournament poker right now, just not in the main event. He's playing the pot-limit Omaha side event which means the wait for a triple UKIPT winner continues. -- NW

7:10pm: Lappin loses with kings
UKIPT regular David Lappin just suffered a bad beat to drop back to 23,000.

7:05pm: All under one roof

6:50pm: Break time
Six levels down and two to go which means the players are on a 15 minute break. -- NW

6:45pm: From 125,000 to out in an hour
The fall of Odd Langset was as rapid as his rise as he's gone from having a stack of 125,000 to a stack of zero inside an hour.

However, this was no raging tilt due to losing that big pot to Diego Gomez (see 5:45pm post) but just a case of getting very unlucky. Between Paul Berende and Kelly Saxby they were able to tell the PokerStars Blog how Langset lost his last 70,000 in chips.
First he three-bet with [Q][5] and called a four-bet from Pavel Chalupka and connected rather nicely with the [Q][5][4] flop. His opponent held kings, the chips flew in and Chalupka rivered a third king to win the hand.

After that beat Berende said that Langset was simply open jamming a lot of hands, including 7-2o, so when Langset picked up kings he did exactly the same, Christian Hatero called and he also had pocket kings, but crucially the king of diamonds. Four diamonds appeared on the board and with that Langset's roller coaster of a day was done. -- NW

6:25pm: Little Razavi catches, and busts, Worley-Roberts
Former UKIPT champion Sam Razavi may be in the Philippines looking after his first-born but his spirit lives on inside his younger brother, Mohammad Razavi, who's playing today.

Razavi just tangled with the popular Deborah Worley-Roberts and ended up busting her before a small scene broke out.

Around 5,500 had made it into the middle by the turn of a [6h][qh][4d][jc] board and Razavi led for 1,600 from under the gun. Worley-Roberts called and then shoved for 10,725 when Razavi checked on the [6s] river.

The youngster took his time and made the call with [8s][8h]. Worley-Roberts knew she was out and tried to muck cards but the dealer stopped her and held on to the semi-mucked holding. Worley-Roberts asked for a ruling but wasn't happy with the first floor man that was on the scene.

UKIPT4_Marbella2_Deborah Worley-Roberts.jpg

Debs the destroyer

She demanded one of the senior floor staff and eventually had a discussion away from the table with Luca Vivaldi, who pointed out the right ruling and proper practice in the circumstances. Whilst this was happening, the dealer showed Worley-Roberts' hand - pocket fives - to the table and got on with the next hand.

After Worley-Roberts calmed down she apologised to the dealer and floor man in question, just in case she had offended them.

After all the commotion, it's easy to forget that Razavi made a great call to get up to 33,000. -- MC

5:45pm: It's all very Odd
Apparently Odd Arne Langset has a bet with his brother that he has to reach 200,000 in chips by the end of the day otherwise he'll face a pretty strong forfeit which the PokerStars Blog is not going to divulge as it's pretty gruesome.

That perhaps goes some way to explaining the strange, some would say odd, series of events that just unfolded at his table. The Norwegian was doing very well when I arrived at the table and had accumulated a chip leading stack of around 125,000. That was soon to change though, he open to 625 from the hijack and was called by Diego Gomez (cut-off) and Paul Berende (button) only for Kelly Saxby to make it 3,000 from the big blind.

ukipt4_marbella_day1b_diego_gomez.jpg

Gomez - played an Odd pot

Back on Langset he called, Gomez then moved all-in for a massive 35,950, Berende folded and Saxby went into the tank. The American, who lives in the UK, had roughly 19,000 back and the decision was for her tournament life. Despite the gravity of her decision she apologised to the table for taking so long, during this time Langset asked for a count of Gomez's all-in and Berende, rightly so, pointed out that this was out of line as the action wasn't on him yet. After a few minutes Saxby folded what she later said was ace-king and about 10 seconds later Langset announced call.

Gomez: [9s][9d]
Langset: [6c][6d]

The board ran [Qs][8d][3s][Ad][Js] and at the completion of the hand Gomez stood up and sang: "We wish you a Merry Christmas, we wish you a Merry Christmas," before adding: "I love this game man." Meanwhile a frustrated Saxby turned to her friend Louise Duffy at a neighbouring table and explained how she'd have tripled up had she called all-in.

But the story doesn't end there on the very next hand Langset lost another 20,000 when he doubled up Christian Hatero. The latter had [Ac][4c] and with the board showing [3c][Kd][2s][Qd][2c] he had, according to Paul Berende, made a big river call with just ace high. After Langset pushed his cards into the muck without showing anyone Hatero shouted "Vamos," and banged the table four times. This was deemed excessive celebration by the floor and Hatero was given an orbit penalty as a result. Still he's up to 40,000 whilst Langset is down to 70,000. -- NW

5:30pm: Phillips' opponent bullet proof
Tony Phillips has dropped down to 18,000 after he emptied the clip into Ivan Ortega but failed to prize the Spaniard off his hand.

Philips raised from the highjack and bet every street of a [4d][8s][9c][as][jh] board, the last two bets being 1,925 and 6,500.

Ortega was in the small blind and called all the way with [ac][4c], beating out Philips's [kc][7c]. -- MC

5:15pm: Exits
As the blinds go up the number of players go down and these are the latest to fall: Craig McDowell, Ana Robaina, Matthew Bowron, Daniel Merrilees, Javier Suarez, Gennady Menshikov, John Power, Sin Melin, Ion Nedorea and Alberto Sánchez. -- NW

It' wasn't Melin's day

5:10pm: Garrad not travelling well in this Main Event
Dale Garrad berated himself for calling in a pot that saw him drop down to 7,700 chips.

Three players were involved in the hand by the time the board rested as [9h][tc][jh][5d][4h]. Artem Chindin was already all for his short stack, leaving Garrad and Carlos Sanchez fighting it out for a side pot as well as the main pot. Garrad led out for 5,025 before Sanchez shoved for 12,475.

"I should've check-called!" said Garrad. "You have ace-king of hearts?"

He procrastinated for a minute and flicked in the call and was shown what he suspected, [ah][kh] which beat his smaller flush with [8h][5h]. Chindin had [ac][9c] and was eliminated. -- MC

5pm: Over 740 players!
Late registration has closed on Day 1B and we've been told that there were 448 players in the field today. Add them to the 293 from yesterday and you get 741 players. That's slightly down on the 763 from last year but the €500,000 guarantee has been smashed. -- NW

4:55pm: There's only one Jake Cody!

4:50pm: Doke's got the measure of opponents

4:45pm: Grafton hooks in Tinnion
Robert Tinnion lost a pot to Sam Grafton but still has 47,000 chips to play with.

Around 3,000 had made it into the middle before both players checked a [2c][ac][2c] flop. The turn came as the [9s] and Grafton check-called 1,900 before both players went back to checking the [4h] river.

Grafton opened [jc][js] and took the pot to move up to 32,000 as Tinnion mucked. -- MC

UKIPT4 Marbella2: Denis Ursu leads; Jake Cody third heading to Day 2

We knew what to expect of the second flight of UKIPT Marbella, players and lots of them. Another 457 joined the fray today and when you add them to the 293 from yesterday you get bang on 750 which means the guarantee of €500,000 was smashed. Such was their number that for much of the day the players were housed in two different rooms, only combining under one roof near the end of the day.

UKIPT4_Marbella2_Jake Cody.jpg

Cody cruised through

Up until the final hand of the day a familiar face was at the top of the chip charts as Team PokerStars Pro Jake Cody sailed serenely through the day to end of 131,300. He got off to a flyer, flopping a set and getting a double up from top pair, a short time later he flopped a better straight than an opponent and was up to 90,000. His rise to near the the top of the tree is in stark contrast to his journey to get to this tournament. It took him three flights and 21 hours to travel from Las Vegas to Marbella, it only took him one flight of poker to climb to third overall heading into Day 2. Read more about his recent exploits here.

ukipt4_marbella_day1b_denis_ursu.jpg

Ursu's final flourish saw him claim the chip lead

But, on the final hand of the day Denis Ursu won a 50,000 chip pot against Peter Jaksland to claim the chip lead because as a result of that pot the Moldovan finished on 146,300 to leapfrog Cody into the lead. He wasn't the only player to break through the 100,000 chip mark as Sam Goodman (117,100) and Peter Jaksland (114,600) also managed that feat. Indeed Jaksland would have been chip leader but for losing that final hand to Ursu. A special mention to Odd Langset who reached 125,000 chips by level five but was out before the end of level six!

ukipt4_marbella_day1b_leo_margets.jpg

Margets made it through

Cody wasn't the only patched up player in the field today as Team PokerStars was four strong with representatives from both Team Pro and Team Online. Team PokerStars Pro Leo Margets was on home turf and she safely negotiated her way through to Day 2 with 34,700 chips. She'll be joined by Spanish Team Online member Vicente Delgado. The online wizard had a great last quarter to rocket from 46,000 to 97,500 in chips to be well placed heading into Day 2.

The UK's own Team Online wizard, Dale Philip, was in grind mode for most of the day, never seemingly getting his stack into positive territory until the final level. Indeed he ended the day with 21,900 and will be one of those looking to improve on Day 2.

ukipt4_marbella_day1b_gaelle_garcia_diaz.jpg

Garcia Diaz is through to Day 2

As usual the second starting flight attracted a host of big name players some prospered, whilst others will be occupied by the beach, the pool, the football or side events for the rest of the festival. Some of those through to the knockout stages on Day 2 are: Adrian Mateos (69,200), Gaelle Garcia Diaz (35,900), Paul Berende (50,900), Sam Grafton (53,000) and Nick Wealthall (17,900).

ukipt4_marbella_day1b_sin_melin.jpg

Melin couldn't make it through

Whilst among those topping up their tan will be: Sin Melin, Duncan McLellan, Fintan Gavin and Fraser Macintyre. To catch up on all the Day 1B action click on the links below. Keep an eye on the widget on the right and the @PokerStarsBlog twiiter account for overnight chip counts and seat draw which will be uploaded when they're made available. We'll be back at noon tomorrow for Day 2, but for now to bed, if only there was some sport to watch.

UKIPT4 Marbella2: Day 2 Level 9-12 updates (1,000/2,000, ante 300)

4:20pm: Oranges for everyone
It's halftime again and time for a 15-minute break. You'll find level 13 updates in a new post here.

4:15pm: High Rolling
The €2,000 High Roller is about to commence with Simon Hemsworth one of those who are about to sit down and play

Other players we know are taking part include Patrick Leonard, Paul Berende and the UKIPT's own Jen Mason who was one of 12 players to win a seat in last night's satellite. Late registration will be open until 8.15pm local time. -- NW

4:05pm: Monroe sliding
The events with Elias Fernandez may have got inside the head of Kevin Monroe as his stack's heading south rapidly.

He just lost a pot, after bluffing, to Nicki Dalgaard to drop to 46,000. By the conversation the two players were having, it seemed as if Monroe three-bet from the small blind after Dalgaard opened.

By the time the board rested as [7s][5h][9h][5d][qc] more than 100,000 had made its way into the middle. Monroe led for a relatively small 25,500 and Dalgaard tank-called with [qh][th] for a rivered queen after flopping a flush draw. Monroe opened [ac][tc] and said, "Good call" to Dalgaard who moved up to 210,000. -- MC

3:55pm: Some snippets
Here are a few snippets of what's happening around the tournament room:

• Ken Lennaard has rebuilt his stack to 175,000 after eliminating Nicolas Fernandez. The latter had pocket tens to Lennaard's [4c][3c], the chips went in on a [3][5][6] flop and Lennaard turned trip threes to win the hand
• Leo Margets is still in but still below average with a stack of 58,000.
•Tom Sommerville and Leo McClean are at the same table and sharing a joke or two. McClean has 62,000 whilst Sommerville has 44,000.
• Jake Cody's progress is slow and steady as he's climbed to 155,000

3:50pm: Fuming Monroe loses pot to drunk Fernandez
Elias Fernandez is the drunkest man in the room. Fact. He's consumed four bourbon and energy drinks since the start of play and he's not making many friends, especially Kevin Monroe who he just doubled through.

Fernandez raised from under the gun and called after Monroe three-bet from the big blind. The flop fell [ad][jd][4c] and Monroe check-raised his opponent who called. A blank came on the turn and Monroe bet 30,000 and was called before a third diamond came on the river. Fernandez had 37,600 back and called all in when Monroe shoved.

"Do you have diamonds? Asked Monroe. He got no response so opened up [ac][jc] for two pair. Then Fernandez opened up [kd][9d] one at a time.

"F##king idiot!" fumed Monroe. "That's what you get when you have a drunkard at the table."

Monroe dropped to 125,000 and told his foe to go and have a shower as he stunk. The TD agreed and Fernandez was asked to go and clean up, have a coffee and come back in a fit state to play. -- MC

3:30pm: Raine not falling
UKIPT3 leader board runner-up Neil Raine had a six-figure stack to start the day and it's only gone upward in the opening three hours...

Blinds up: 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

3:20pm: Heading to the pool
The players continue to fall faster than Sepp Blatter of a stage as: Rafael Vadillo, Graham Smith, Bernat Calvet, Gerardus Kotting, Daniel Martinez, Barry Foley, Cristian Sturza, Tomasz Raniszewski, Oliver Weis, Martynas Kukucionis, Raul Mestre, Julio Parras, Sebastien Deliron, Adrián Alonso, Grzegorz Reczko, Michael Allmrodt, Najib Hassani, Carlo Gabriele, Peter Kensell, John Keown, Jens Lakemeier, Antonino Karman, Michael Kane, Vicente Esteve, Francisco Bravo, Igor Fernandez, Steven Velletri, Gerald Cochlan, Marco Rivas, Joseph Whittaker, Adam Forsyth, Keith Maguire, Bartolome Gomila, Igor Pérez, David Tierney, Tom Aksel Bedell, Patrick Bornicke, Miguel Perez, Sidsel Helle Boesen, Christopher Knights, Basel Alhasan, Donald Elliot and David Dolak are all out. -- NW

Mestre is gone

3:15pm: Duffy and Craigie depart
Two fair ladies, in the shape of Louise Duffy and Kerry Jane Craigie have been eliminated.

Duffy informed the blog that Mohammad Razavi, who's risen to around 170,000, eliminated her. She had 38,000 and called as raise from the young Brightonion holding ace-queen. The flop came [2][4][5] and Duffy had a stab when the action was checked to her.

Duffy was going to give up on the hand when called but an ace appearing on the turn changed her mind. The chips went in and Razavi opened Pocket deuces for a set. -- MC

3pm: Delgado doing it live
Vicente Delgado, a member of PokerStars Team Online, has got his stack up to 230,000 - good for one of the biggest stacks in the room.

He won a pot off former Estrellas champion Antonio Dieguez with a brand of power poker. Dieguez raised to 3,500 from mid position and called after Delgado three-bet to 9,000 from the small blind.

The flop fell [3s][ks][jh] and Delgado continued for 10,000. Call. On the [8s], Delgado fired 20,000 and that was enough to get Dieguez to fold after some thought. -- MC

2:45pm: River keeps Dalfo alive
Ladislao Dalfo is a lucky lucky boy. On the turn of a [3d][4s][Jc][10s] board he bet 9,700 into a roughly 20,000 chip pot and then called off his final 20,000 when Pablo Gordillo set him all-in. Gordillo showed pocket queens and was ahead of Dalfo's [Js][7s], that is until the [7h] spiked on the river to double up Dalfo. -- NW

2:35pm: Contrasting fortunes of Day 1 chip leaders
Ken Lennaard and Denis Ursu led at the end of Day 1A and 1B respectively but their stacks have gone in different directions today.

The overall Day 1 chip leader was Lennaard but his stack has shrunk from 149,900 to around 85,000, whilst Ursu's stack has gone from 146,300 to 225,000 in the opening two and a bit levels. -- NW

2:30pm: No chips, no money
The tournament has said goodbye to: Christopher Johnson, Ian Holmes, Patricia Rovirosa, Ander Sarasua, Cesar García, Ross Newton, Veronika Larsen, Guy Phillips, Tomasz Wrobel, Lucas Blanco, Fernando Curto, Ander Leonardo, Carsten Jo, Zakhar Galper, Epameinondas Sintos, Manuel Cortada, Martin Clemmensen, Claus Grether, Ole Secher, Carmelo Lorente Aguilar, Raffaele Sorrentino, Sergi Torrent, Jose Gutierrez, Alec Cameron, Sam Van Kerkhoven, Tony Phillips, Javier de Vicente Miquel, Emanuel Rodrigues de Jesus, Omar Anaya, Mikel Leunda, Christian Jambor, David Prestamero and Lee Goldsmith. -- MC

1:50pm: Lewis makes Swift exit
Lewis Swift's day has come to an end after he flopped a straight flush draw but bricked.

He came by media row and told the blog that he called a 2,500 raise from a player sat under-the-gun, with [8][8h]. The flop came [7h][9h][jh] and the chips went in. His opponent held king-jack and the board ran out [9][6]. -- MC

1:40pm: The king is dead, long live the king
A brand new UKIPT Marbella champion will be crowned on Sunday after the elimination of Ludovic Geilich.

Antonio Dieguez min raised from under the gun and was called by the button and Geilich in the big blind. The flop fanned [4s][2h][4d] and Geilich check-raised all in. The button folded but Dieguez called.

Geilich: [ac][5c] for a gutshot draw.
Dieguez: [6h][6d] for an over pair.

Geilich hit his wheel on the [3c] turn but Dieguez made a bigger straight on the [5s] river. -- MC

1:27pm: Geilich grinding it out
Anyone who's seen the recent footage of EPT London on Channel 4 will now that Ludovic Geilich is a man who likes to play pots and doesn't like folding - exhibit a - but he seems to be grinding it out here on Day 2 as he's up to 32,000 from his start of day 19,500. "I've just won a few small pots," he told the PokerStars Blog. "I'm in good shape, well better than what I was. -- NW

1:25pm: Magee takes the lead
Before play started Jake Cody told the PokerStars Blog that he was in confident mood going into Day 2 and liked that fact that no one else at his table had more than 60,000. Well that's not the case anymore as Bernard Magee, who started the day with 59,200, is now up to 200,000 and has a wall of chips in front of him.

The good news for Cody fans is that none of this new found wealth appears to have come from him as he still has a stack of around 130,000, which is what he started the day with. -- NW

1:20pm: Up and then out for Philip
PokerStars Team Online Dale Philip has busted. He tweeted:

1:10pm: Newport sails away
Day 2 was a day to forget for Nick Newport after he managed to go from more than 60,000 to out in a level.

He told the blog that he lost an 80,000-chip pot with king-queen suited to ace-five in a three-bet pot. His opponent flopped a five and rivered an ace to beat out Newport's turned queen.

That left him with 7,000 and he moved them in with eight-nine suited from the hijack. A player on the button called with ace-jack and Newport bricked straight and flush draws. -- MC

LEVEL UP: BLINDS 600/1,200 ante 200

12:50pm: Milner Jnr nailed by Garcia Diaz
Ace-king doesn't seem to be flipping well against pocket nines today. The latest to fall victim of such a flip was Richard Milner Jnr.

He was short coming in today and got his ace-king in versus the pocket nines of Gaelle Garcia Diaz, which held. Garcia Diaz, who has her angry game face on today, moved up to around 55,000. -- MC

UKIPT4_Marbella2_Gaëlle Garcia Diaz.jpg

The exit's that way, Rich!

12:45pm: Running on fumes
Defending champion Ludovic Geilich is short on sleep as well as chips. A conversation with another player at the table yielded the fact that Geilich only got three hours sleep last night due to getting in at 8am! -- NW

12:40pm: Philip busts one
Team PokerStars Online's Dale Philip only started the day with 22 big blinds so when he got half of them into the middle in a flip against Jose Gomez it was pretty crucial that he won. The Scotsman held [As][Ks] and was up against pocket nines. The [7d][8h][Qd] flop kept the pocket pair in front but the [Ac] turn gave Philip the lead, which he held onto on the [8c] river. He's now up to around 35,000. -- NW

12:35pm: Grafton takes out Wealthall
UKIPT host Nick Wealthall's day was shorter than he had hoped for. You have to win flips to win tournaments and Wealthall failed to do so.

He got his last 20 big blinds in with ace-king suited versus Sam Grafton's pocket nines. The pocket pair held and Wealthall headed for the pool. -- MC

UKIPT4_Marbella2_Nick Wealthall.jpg

A host of problems for Nick today

12:28pm: Margets came armed for battle
Tomeu Gomila and Leo Margets are two of the biggest Spanish names left in the field and tangled in a pot that saw the latter empty the clip to claim a pot.

Margets raised from mid position and went on to fire 2,200, 5,700 and 9,000 on a [4h][qd][8d][6d][9c] board. Gomila was in the big blind and check-called all the way to the river where he paused. Margets is known for having a sad looking face when in a hand but Gomila was mirroring her expression as he tanked. He scratched his head, stuck out his bottom lip and gave a great puppy impression.

It wasn't going to change the fact he faced a bet and he tapped the table and folded to drop to 27,000. The Team PokerStars Pro rose to 46,000. -- MC

UKIPT4_Marbella2_Leo Margets.jpg

Don't mess with Margets today

12:15pm: Plan for the day
Before play began Toby Stone, the tournament director, took to the microphone first to tell the players the payout structure and then to explain how the day is going to work. The plan is to play eight levels in total, although if the bubble hasn't burst by that time play will continue until it does.

Stone said he anticipated that there should be no trouble reaching the money inside eight levels which means the players will then be let loose in time to enjoy the Spain vs Netherlands match experience party which is planned for the evening. -- NW

12:10pm: Interesting tables
The random seat draw has, as usual, spat out a few interesting tables for the start of Day 2. Table seven caught our eye as it contains Neil Raine (101,700), overall chip leader Ken Lennaard (149,900) and Paul Berende (50,900).

And table three is another humdinger as you'll find Ludovic Geilich (19,500), Dara O'Kearney (13,400), Vicente Delgado (97,500) and Antonio Dieguez Rodriguez (37,300) battling it out there. -- NW

12:05pm: Shuffle up and deal!
Cards are in the air for Day 2.

12pm: March to the money begins
Welcome to Day 2 of UKIPT Marbella, it's moving day here as the numbers stop going up and start going down.

In all 336 of the 750 entrants remain, 111 of whom will get paid. The winner will take home €136,000 whilst a min-cash is good for €1,800. You can see the full payout structure here.

UKIPT4_Marbella2_Jake Cody.jpg

Cody is third in chips heading into Day 2

Well placed heading into Day 2 is none other than Team PokerStars Pro Jake Cody. He's got 131,300 and is third in chips. Only Ken Lennaard (149,900) and Denis Ursu (146,300) accumulated more than he did on Day 1. He's not the only sponsored pro who advanced to Day 2 though as Leo Margets (34,700), Dale Philip (21,900) and Vicente Delgado (97,500) are all back today as well. You can see the Day 2 seat draw here and the start of day chip counts here.

8:10pm: Cody chipped up
One player who did very well out of the prolonged bubble period was Jake Cody. The Team PokerStars Pro made a few hands and has managed to chip up to 550,000 and is one of the chip leaders. He still trails Marcin Barwinski who has around 750,000.

7:50pm: Paul Febers bubbles UKIPT4 Marbella2
It took almost an entire level to burst the bubble and when it came out of the blue. In the hand in question it folded to Paul Febers in the small blind and the UKIPT4 Galway runner-up raised to 8,000. From the big blind Gonzaga Oliveira three-bet to 23,500, Febers shoved for 160,000 and Oliveira snap called.

There was then a wait until the hands could be turned over when the time came Febers showed [9c][9d] whilst Oliveira had [Kc][Kd]. The board ran [8c][5c][6c][Qh][Js] and Febers tapped the table and said: "Nice hand," to his opponent. Everyone else is now in the money. -- NW

UKIPT4_Marbella2_Bubble.jpg

Febers' table during the bubble hand

7:30pm: Treble double means we're still on the bubble
There's been plenty of action on the bubble with three of the short stacks getting their chips in, getting called but ultimately surviving.

First to pull off that trick was Krzysztof Jacyk who shoved for 3,500 and got three callers. The callers checked it down on a [7h][3d][6s][6d][Jh] board, Christian Bauer showed pocket kings but Jacyk also had pocket kings and they chopped the pot.

Then on the same hand there were two all-ins on separate tables. Esteban Iparraguirre three-bet shoved with [Ac][Ah] for 38,000 and found a call from Marcos López who had [Ad][Jd]. The [3d][Qc][9d] board gave Lopez lots of outs, the [Js] turn even more but the [9h] river didn't help his cause.

So, onto the next one... this one involved another short stack three-bet shove with aces, this time Claude Richard was at risk for his final 21,000 with [Ah][Ac] and he got a call from Simon Fuhs who having already committed 8,500 to the pot put in the extra with [Jh][8h]. A [Jd][6s][4h][6d][Kd] board kept Richard in front. Still 112 players left. -- NW

7:05pm: Garcia survives bubble shove
Cayetano García is the first player to be at risk on the bubble but he doubled though Neil Raine to survive. The Brit raised to 8,000 pre-flop and Garcia called from a stack of 21,500. On the [8s][3d][7c] flop Raine set Garcia all-in for 13,500 and the elderly Spaniard made the call.

First to show was Raine, he opened [As][8c] but he was trailing Garcia's pocket tens. The turn and river came [5h][9s] and Garcia survived. -- NW

6.56pm: Bubble time
Tournament staff did a head count during the break and there are actually 112 players remaining which means we're on the bubble here in Marbella. -- NW

6.55pm: Double up for Garcia Diaz
Just before the break Gaelle Garcia Diaz got a much needed up, she three-bet shoved for 25,000 with [Jc][Js] and got called by the original raiser who held [Ad][Jd]. Her hand held on the [5h][4s][10s][Jh][3h] board to boost her chances of cashing.

However, Ashley Locker is the latest player to fall, 113 remain so we're on the bubble-bubble. -- NW

Blinds up: 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

6:35pm: Nervous break
A nervous break awaits the 113 remaining players. One more elimination and the tournament enters the bubble zone. Be back in fifteen.

6:31pm: Famous poker faces
Check out this video our Spanish colleagues made earlier of some of the famous poker faces at this event:

6:30pm: Drip drop, tick-tock
Time is ticking down on level 14 and it looks like the bubble is not going to burst before the next break. This who've just missed out and are thus on a permanent break from the tournament include: Borja Gross, Noel Rodriguez, Rodrigo Espinosa, Jose Amilleta and Steven Bartley.

115 players remain and 111 get paid. -- NW

6:25pm: Flippaments
No one likes to flip for his or her tournament life so close to the bubble. Then you win the flip and don't mind at all. Isn't that right, Simon Fuhs?

He got his last 79,300 in the middle with [js][jh] and found a willing customer in Didier Cicurel, who held [ad][kd]. The board ran [4c][9h][tc][7s][7d] and Cicurel dropped back to 145,000. -- MC

6:15pm: Stacks
With 116 players remaining we're just five places off the bubble, here are counts of some of the names and notables left in the field:

Sam Grafton - 150,000
Neil Raine - 200,000
Paul McTaggart - 160,000
Tom Somerville - 54,000
Paul Foltyn - 210,000
Ken Lennaard - 250,000
Antonio Diegeuz - 75,000
Vicente Delgardo - 315,000

6:05pm: Better luck in the High Roller, Margets
It wasn't to be for Leo Margets. She busted the Main Event and said she's going to jump straight in the High Roller.

She told the blog that she was down to 12 big blinds when she three-bet all in with ace-nine over an open from the button. The player is question just happened to have ace-queen, called, and his hand held up. -- MC

UKIPT4_Marbella2_Leo Margets.jpg

Margets just missed out on a cash

6pm: So near but yet so far
The latest batch of exits include: Terry Carter, Marciano Rodriguez, David Wilkes, David Cruas, Rozanna Ketting, Omer Cubukcu, Andrea Green, Roberto Fernández De Frutos, Damaso Garcia, Josel Nuñez, Igor Ampudia, Jelle Verbruggen, Andelfo Martínez and Vladimir Olegovich Ovshinov. -- NW

5:55pm: The bubble is in sight
With only 124 players remaining the bubble is looming into view here at the PokerStars Marbella Festival.

Unlike at UKIPT Nottingham, where he was hugging the bubble, Team PokerStars Pro Jake Cody is in good shape here with 225,000 (average 121,000). However, the same can't be said for fellow Team Pro Leo Margets who is struggling with a stack of just 36,000. -- NW

Blinds up: 1,500/3,000, ante 400

5:45pm: Chip off the old block, Razavi does it for the fans
Despite running queens into kings in a 130k pot earlier, Mohammad Razavi is going along well with 185,000. Some of those came in a hand where he bluff emptied the clip into Igor Ampudia.

He opened to 5,200 from the cut-off and Ampudia peeled from the big blind to see a [th][2d][8c] flop. Razavi continued for 6,500 and Ampudia called to the [8h] turn where he called another 12,900. On the [6h] river, Razavi upped the pressure with a 31,900 bet. Ampudia tanked for a minute and folded, only to be shown [ad][9s] by Razavi. -- MC

5:30pm: Chip counts
Thanks to tournament staff doing a rigorous chip count during the last break we're able to bring you chip counts of everyone left in. We've flowed them into the chip count page, this is how the top 10 shaped up at the start of level 13.

Marcin Barwinski, Poland, PokerStars Player, 460,000
Emilio Navarro, Spain, 310,000
Vicente Delgado, Spain, PokerStars Team Online, 267,000
Daniel Thaller, UK, 263,000
Anthony Fox, United Kingdom, PokerStars Qualifier, 230,000
Ken Lennaard, Sweden, 220,000

Eugenio Santamaria Tessier, Spain, PokerStars Qualifier, 210,000
Mohamed Dris Addelnebi, Spain, 200,000
Denis Ursu, Moldavia, 200,000

5:20pm: Hanging with the high rollers
The High Roller has been going for just over an hour and there are currently 70 players in the tournament. The PokerStars Blog headed down to La Cassata - where the event is being held - for a spot of star gazing. Dotted among the tables we found: Juan Benito, Tom Middleton, Dan Williams, Tom Dunwoodie, David Yan, David Lappin, Alex Goulder, Patrick Leonard and Jen Mason. -- NW

5:15pm: They keeping falling
With around 140 players remaining, the bubble is fast approaching. Unfortunately for them, the following will not be in the mix: Anthony Harris, Kelly Saxby, Alejandro Garcia, Jean-Baptiste Riego Maidana, Luca Fiorini, Gintaras Simaitis, Bruno Garcia, Ruben Gonzalez, Colm O'Reilly, Joseph Mrejen, André Morath, Alexandre Condom, David Dean, John Keown, Mark Lane, Liam Duffy, Mario Karman, Daniel Thaller, Pablo Gordillo, Andrey Chizhman, Leo McClean, Eulogio Aparicio, Kevin Monroe, Claus Grether, Adrián Mateos and Leith Abdelamir Rashid. -- MC

5:05pm: Lopez survives roller coaster ride
Down to just 18,700, Marcos Lopez moved all-in pre-flop with pocket sixes and got a call from Israel Julian who had pocket fours. The [Js][Ah][4d] flop prompted Lopez to stand up from his seat but he was soon sitting back down again as the [6c] fell on the turn to give him the best hand once more. There was no miracle one outer on the river and Lopez lives. -- NW

5pm: Great timing aids Dalfo double
It must be nice to look down at pocket tens in the big blind after a button raise and small blind call. Especially when you only have 45,000. Just ask Ladislao Dalfo.

The action folded to Abraham Serrano on the button who raised to 5,500. The small blind called before Dalfo squeezed all in. Serrano also shoved and isolated Dalfo.

Dalfo: [th][tc]
Serrano: [9h][9c]

The board ran [8s][jd][6d][2d][kh] and Dalfo clapped his hands in appreciation. -- MC

4:50pm: Chip leader
During the break tournament staff did chip counts of everyone left in, we'll be able to bring them to you shortly, but it's a decent bet that Marcin Barwinski is chip leader as the Pole has 420,000. Spanish Team PokerStars online member Vicente Delgado is running him close with around 400,000. -- NW

4:40pm: Cody continues to climb
Jake Cody is slowly but surely adding to his stack, he started the day with just over 130,000...

4:35pm: Gone
With roughly 160 players remaining we're still some way from bursting the bubble, however the following players' tournament dreams have already gone pop: Rafael Vadillo, Gerard Carbó, Hak Hyun Lee, Robert Still, Benjamin Lamprecht, Paul Berende, Jose Moreno, Julio Castell, Jordi Martinez, Lee Dixon, Bastian Hagenbeuk, Michael Cano, Daniel Perkusic, Nicolas Fernandez, Oscar Gasamanes, Sonia Padovani, Iñigo Armendariz, Michael Bartov, Francis Ryan, John White, Daniel Ericson, Christopher Johnson, Erkan Ismail, Paul Brown, David Dolak and Rafael Jurado.

UKIPT4 Marbella2: Barwinski clear of the field as Febers bubbles

$

The PokerStars Marbella Festival Main Event played out another eight levels today and it was a day that saw new big stacks emerge, former big stacks crumble and one man finish just one off the money as the bubble boy.

Polish PokerStars Qualifer Marcin Barwinski ended the day way ahead of the chasing pack with 825,000. At play's end he had this to say, "It was a day where I hit everything! I qualified online in a player's choice satellite. I'm 22, play professionally and this my first UKIPT."

UKIPT4_Marbella2_Marcin Barwinski.jpg

Barwinski the man to catch on Day 3

Team PokerStars Jake Cody had another good day and ended with 354,000. He was on for a top five stack but his ace-king failed to stay ahead of an opponent's ace-queen at the death and he lost 220,000 off his stack. His online teammate Vicente Delgado played with a smile across his face all day, reflective of a positive trend that saw his day close with 586,500, good for second place overnight.

UKIPT4_Marbella2_Jake Cody.jpg

Another UKIPT cash locked up for Cody

Other players to make Day 3 were: Ken Lennaard (546,000), Sam Grafton (262,000), Galle Garcia Diaz (45,000), Paxti Salinas (67,500), Elias Fernandez (523,000), Christian Bauer (296,000), Neil Raine (280,000), Denis Ursu (373,000), Didier Cicurel (355,000), Jaroslaw Lipien (446,000) and Gareth Hamilton (531,000).

UKIPT4_Marbella2_Sam Grafton.jpg

Grafton will be back for more tomorrow

The plan for today was to play eight levels unless the money was reached but it burst as the penultimate level of the day came to a close. The bubble lasted nearly an hour with several double ups during that period. The short stacks had no trouble in staying afloat but for Paul Febers and his healthy stack, it was a different matter entirely.

UKIPT4_Marbella2_Bubble.jpg

A crowd gathered to watch the bubble burst

He held pocket nines in the small blind and four-bet shoved for 40 big blinds. Unfortunately for him, Gonzaga Oliveira held kings in the big blind and snap called the shove. Both players held a club and the flop came [8c][5c][6c] to add a straight flush draw to Febers' outs. They didn't come and short stacks around the room erupted in celebration.

Of course it's awful to bubble but, at the end of the day, his tournament was effectively as successful as defending champion Ludovic Geilich, Adrian Mateos, Leo McClean, Raul Mestre and Nick Wealthall, along with PokerStars' Leo Margets and Dale Philip - all of whom left with nothing.

UKIPT4_Marbella2_Leo Margets.jpg

Margets hoping for a better run in the high roller

A cash may be secured but another big day awaits those who made it through as the race for the final table will be on. Everyone's hoping it won't take too long as there's the Player party/BBQ to attend before the England versus Italy match is shown on a big screen.

UKIPT4 Marbella2: Level 17-22 updates (10,000/20,000 ante 3,000)

7:15pm: Go outside now!
That's the end of the level and the players are now on a 15 minute break. You'll find level 23 updates here. -- NW

7:10pm: Everyone loves a chopped pot
"Goodness knows what would've happened if he'd won the pot," quipped some Grafton from the other table, which was still close enough to hear Gareth Hamilton's roar.

In the pot in question Hamilton opened to 45,000 on the button, Javier Elorza three-bet to 155,000 from the big blind and Hamilton went into the tank. He had 591,000 in total and Elorza had around 800,000. After a couple of minutes of thinking Hamilton announced all-in and after Elorza got a count he made the call.

Elorza: [Ah][Qd]
Hamilton: [Ad][6h]

Elorza had made an excellent call but wasn't rewarded as the flop fell [5s][3d][6d], a [4s] on the turn opened up some chop possibilities and the [7d] river meant there was a straight on board. Hamilton had clearly been sweating the queen only and let out a might roar thinking he had won the hand before realising it was a chop. -- NW

7pm: Grafton has a fifth of the chips in play
Sam Grafton has continued to gather momentum and had almost three million chips after winning two pots of (now) former chip leader Emilio Navarro.

Grafton value bet trip jacks on the river in one hand to get some off the Spaniard and then a few hands later made a full house and got paid again on the river.

The board read [td][as][ah][8s][7c] and Grafton bet a huge 510,000. Navarro called and was shown [ac][7h] by the Brit. He banged his fist on the table, paid the debt and waked away from the table. His stack dropped down to 1.2 million. --MC

UKIPT4_Marbella2_Sam Grafton.jpg

Grafton in boss zone

6:45pm: Gonzaga Briga eliminated in 14th place (€6,780)
The last remaining Portuguese player has just been eliminated as Gonzaga Briga lost a flip to bust.

After Katja Svendsen opened to 40,000 he shoved for 339,000 and Sam Grafton flat called from the big blind. After a brief think Svendsen released her hand and it was time for a showdown:

Grafton: [Ah][Jh]
Briga: [2h][2s]

Briga was ecstatic to see it was a race but the [5c][9h][Qh] flop gave Grafton hope, too much hope apparently. "Sigh at that flop, too many outs," joked Grafton. The [Qs] on the turn gave Grafton even more outs as he could now counterfeit Briga's pair with a five or nine as well as his pair and flush outs. The [7h] river completed Grafton's flush and he shook hands with Briga before telling him he'd catch him at the party later. -- NW

6:30pm: Didier Cicurel eliminated in 15th place (€6,780)
Marcin Barwinski has taken a lot of hits today but each time he's bounced back, usually by eliminating a player. He shrugged off the loss to Jake Cody by eliminating Didier Cicurel in 15th place.

Cicurel had 315,000 when he committed his stack with [ks][qs]. Barwinski was sat behind with [as][kd] and made the call though. The board ran [7d][4h][2d][jc][8h]. -- MC

Cicurel - 15th

LEVEL UP: BLINDS 10,000/20,000, ante 3,000

6:20pm: Cody loses some, wins it back
Jake Cody was in the thick in the action over the course of two hands. He doubled up Gareth Hamilton before he took a chuck out of Marcin Barwinski's stack.

Cody and Hamilton took to a [7h][jh][qd] flop where the chips went in. Cody held top pair with king-queen but Hamilton flopped a set and moved up to 705,000.

The very next hand, a (now) angry looking Cody three-bet to 88,000 after Barwinski opened from early position. The flop fanned [6d][2c][5h] and Barwinski check-called Cody's 80,000 c-bet.

Both players checked the [4h] turn before Cody bombed 151,000 on the [ah] river. Barwinski called but mucked upon seeing the Team PokerStars Pro's [jh][9h] for a flush.

Barwinski dropped to 540,000 whereas Cody remains on around 1.5 million. -- MC

6:10pm: Graham Phipps eliminated in 16th place (€6,050)
Graham Phipps didn't last long on the feature table after he ran ace-nine into big-slick to bust.

Christian Bauer open raised from mid position before Phipps three-bet from the cut-off. Rodrigo Espinosa was in the big blind and he put on a cold four-bet. That was enough to scare off Bauer but not Phipps who five-bet jammed for 347,000. Call.

Espinosa: [ad][kh]
Phipps: [ah][9c]

The board ran [6d][4d][8d][jh][qc] to hand the pot and the scalp to Espinosa. He moved over the 1.3 million mark. -- MC

Navarro has a big lead on the field

5:55pm: 12 remain in the High Roller
The High Roller is in the midst of Day 2 and just 12 players remain. Tom Middleton is still in the hunt and aiming to add a UKIPT/ESPT High Roller title to the EPT Barcelona title he won in 2013. Double UKIPT champion Duncan McLellan cashed but was recently eliminated. -- MC

5:40pm: Öhlund busts to leave two tables
The Main Event is down to two tables after the elimination of Carl Öhlund. It'll come as no surprise to hear that man Marcin Barwinski was in the middle of the action once again!

He was in the big blind with [6s][6d] and called after Öhlund shoved for 205,000 from the small blind with [7s][5s].

The board ran [3d][ah][9s][qd][4d] and failed to help Öhlund. Barwinski moved back up to around 850,000.

The players are on another 15-minute break while the two-table redraw takes place. -- MC

5:35pm: Navarro wins monster pot to take the chip lead
We've just seen the biggest pot of the tournament so far and it ended with a "Vamos" which should tell you that a Spaniard won it.
The hand started with a raise to 32,000 from Marcin Barwinski, Emilio Navarro three-bet to 72,000, Barwinski four-bet to 128,000, Navarro five-bet to 240,000 and Barwinski smooth called.

On the [2d][5c][6h] flop Navarro c-bet 290,000 and Barwinski smooth called. There was now 1,160,000 in the pot as the [7d] fell on the turn. Both players checked and the [Kd] completed the board. It was checked to Navarro who bet 350,000. "Why the king, why the king?" he said aloud before making the call. Navarro rolled over [Ah][As] which was good and he scooped a huge 1,910,000 pot. Add that to what he had behind and he's now got roughly 2,250,000 and the chip lead. -- NW

5:30pm: Chip counts from the feature table
Here are the stacks of the five players at the feature table:

Jake Cody, 1,454,000
Javier Elorza, 1,190,000
Jaroslaw Lipien, 927,000
Gonzaga Briga, 827,000
Katja Svendsen, 797,000

5:27pm: Svendsen spikes on the river to survive
Katja Svendsen looked all set to be eliminated in 17th place after a cooler in the blinds but spiked a jack on the river to crack an over pair.

She was in the big blind and got her 398,000 stack in against Jaroslaw Lipien in the small blind.

Lipien: [qs][qc]
Svendsen: [jh][jd]

The board ran [6d][9s][5d][kc][js] to make her a set. A tiny smile broke out on her face but she contained her emotions mostly. Lipien dropped to 950,000. -- MC

5:20pm: Down to 17
David Gutierrez and Abraham Serrano have been eliminated in 19th and 18th place respectively, both men collect €5,320 for their efforts.

When we lose one more player the clock will be paused and they'll be a complete redraw of the final 16 players. -- NW

5:15pm: Ken Lennaard doubles through Emilio Navarro
It folded to Emilio Navarro on the button, he min-raised, Ken Lennaard shoved all-in from the small blind for 226,000 and Navarro made the call.

Lennaard: [Kc][Jc]
Navarro: [10h][10d]

A [4s][Jh][Ah][8s][3c] board connected with Lennaard's over cards and he's now up to around 490,000 whilst Navarro takes a hit to drop to 1,075,000. -- NW

5:10pm: Vicente Delgado eliminated in 20th place (€5,320)
PokerStars Team Online's Vicente Delgado has just been eliminated from the tournament and it took place under the full glare of the feature table.

He moved in for roughly 220,000 with [Ad][Jh] and got looked up by Jaroslaw Lipien who had [As][Ah]. A [Ac][5c][Kd][6d][5s] board was not what Delgado was looking for. He shook hands with Lipien before leaving the feature table. - NW

5:05pm:Cornelis failed to Nick pot, busts
Nick Cornelis departed in 21st place after he lost a race to Emilio Navarro. He three-bet all in from the small blind and Navarro called from the cut-off after he had open raised.

Cornelis: [ad][9h]

The board ran [4c][kc][jd][6c][8h]. Navarro banged his hand on the table in celebration before shaking his opponent's hand. -- MC

Saavedra: [Qd][Qh]
Hamilton: [Jc][9c]

The board ran out [7s][8d] and Hamilton's had held to propel him to around 700,000, Saavedra was left with just 2.5 big blinds and was out soon afterwards. -- NW

4:45pm: Jake's on the telly!
Don't forget there's a Spanish language live stream for the rest of the Main Event. Team PokerStars Pro Jake Cody has been moved to the feature table for your viewing pleasure. We've no idea what they're saying but click here to watch. -- MC

4:40pm: Phipps doubles through Barwinski
Earlier on, when he was up to 1.8 million chips, Marcin Barwinski was telling Jake Cody that, in the four years he's been playing poker, he'd never run as well as in this tournament.

Since that statement it hasn't been all plain sailing for the Polish PokerStars Qualifier. He's still got a big stack but has dropped down to 1.35 million after he doubled up Graham Phipps.

Barwinski opened to 24,000 from mid position and called after Phipps moved all in for 227,000 from the hijack.

4:25pm: Grafton misclicks
"That's not the way I wanted to start off at a new table," said Sam Grafton as he lost an early encounter against David Gutierrez. The Spaniard opened to 24,000 from early position, Grafton three-bet to 44,000 and Gutierrez smooth called.

The [As][3s][7d] flop was checked through and the [Kd] fell on the turn, first to act Grafton bet 70,000 and Gutierrez made the call. Both players checked the [4d] river, Grafton showed [9s][6s] whilst Gutierrez had [Ac][Jc]. "I misclicked," said Grafton. "I had a 25k chip in with my 5k chips, but thought I had to try and bluff it out," he said with a smile. -- NW

4:15pm: Play resumes
The players are back and in their new seating positions. Full chip counts coming up shortly.

3:55pm: Redraw at 24 after Razavi busts
The players are on a 20-minute break as the final 24 players are redrawn onto three tables.

3:50pm: Grafton going through the gears
Sam Grafton is up to 1,200,000 after eliminating an opponent. Grafton told me that he raised to 20,000 with [K][J] and then called when his opponent three-bet to 45,000. On the [J][4c][3c] flop Grafton called a continuation bet of 60,000 and a king fell on the turn. His opponent shoved for roughly a pot sized bet, Grafton called and was up against [A][Q]. The river was a brick and his opponent was eliminated.
25 players remain. -- NW

3:45pm: Cody rockets up the leaderboard
Jake Cody is edging ever nearer to the lofty position of chip leader after winning a huge pot with pocket aces. He eliminated Elias Fernandez in the process and has 1.5 million.

Fernandez raised to 24,000 from the cut-off before Cody three-bet to 59,000 from the next seat. Fernandez came back with a four-bet to 120,000 and Cody called to see a [4h][3h][ks] flop appear.

Fernandez continued for 82,000 and Cody called to the [6c] turn where he faced a check. Cody sat for a minute, eyed up the 3000,000 or so that Fernandez had back and then announced he was all in.

Fernandez tanked for a minute and made the call with [9c][9d]. Cody opened [ah][as] and survived the [6c] river. -- MC

3:35pm: Payout glitch
The PokerStars Blog likes to stay on top of who's finished where in the tournament and indeed we update the payout page regularly.

However, due to a casino glitch with regards to the payouts we're waiting on information from them with regards to a couple of the finishing position. As such we're going to wait until we've received that information before posting more payout information as we'd rather post less information than wrong information. -- NW

3:25pm: Moreno pips another opponent
An orbit after Antonio Moreno doubled through Ken Lennaard with A-K vs A-Q he was at it again, managing to get it in once more with a dominating ace. This time he held [Ac][Jc] in the big blind and moved all-in for 101,000 over the top of Daniel Rodriguez's open. The latter called the extra with [As][10s] and watched on as the board came [3d][Ks][6d][5d][9c] to once again keep Moreno alive. -- NW

3:15pm: Barwinski bounces back with a bluff
Marcin Barwinski has got back up to 1.55 million after he bluffed Team Online's Vicente Delgado off a hand in a big pot.

Around 350,000 had made its way to the table's centre by the time the flop was showing as [9d][9s][qs]. Delgado checked from the big blind and called when Barwinski bet 70,000.

Barwinski bet 90,000 on the [9c] turn and the small bet was enough to get his Spanish opponent to fold. Barwinski smiled and opened [kc][3c]. Delgado dropped to 400,000. -- MC

3:10pm: Tough decision?
Ken Lennaard was a bit incensed at the amount of Hollywooding that Antonio Moreno in a pot the two of them played. Lennaard min-raised to 20,000 from early positon and it folded all the way to Moreno in the big blind. The Spaniard only had 5.5 big blinds to start the hand, so Lennaard was likely priced in should Moreno move all-in. Despite this Moreno put on an acting show for a minute before moving all-in, Lennaard snap called and showed [Ad][Qd].

A fine hand but one that was behind to Moreno's [Ac][Kc], a [4d][5h][6c][3s][Jh] board kept Moreno alive and Lennaard said: "Tough decision?" to him as Moreno took the pot. -- NW

3:05pm: Raine vs Rodriguez
It's not been a great day for Neil Raine so far. He's got a bout of food poisoning and just lost a 800,000 chip pot to Daniel Rodriguez when he ran queens into aces. He's since spun his stack back up to around 260,000. -- NW

3pm: Barwinski drops to 1.2m
The runaway train that is Marcin Barwinski just took a major detour but it still very much on track. He's on the feature table at the moment so we didn't catch the hand live, but he's down to 1,200,000 and fellow Pole Jaroslaw Lipien, who was stacking chips and is up to 1,000,000 is the likely beneficiary. -- NW

2:57pm: McTaggart's run comes to an end

2:55pm: Santamaria, Cody's at it again!
Take a bow Eugenio Santamaria. He just got very unlucky to bust to Jake Cody but took his defeat with real class and congratulated the Team Pro with a big smile across his face.

Cody opened to 22,000 from the hijack and was called in one spot before Santamaria squeezed all in for 142,000 from the big blind. Cody was the only caller and their cards were flipped up.

2:48pm: The devil hand works for Svendsen
Katja Svendsen loves pocket sixes as they often seem to serve her well. They just came to her aid when she eliminated Yakup Gulkaya after both got identical stacks in pre flop.

Gulkaya was under the gun and moved all in for 143,000. Either Svendsen knew she had the same amount or less and she announced a call and slid forward all her chips.

2:30pm: Grafton doubles up with the Cody
"I just doubled up with the Cody," shouted Sam Grafton to Jake Cody, who was playing one table behind him. "What aces?" asked Cody. "No the old Cody," said Grafton who had just won a big pot with [10h][4c] the hand Cody famously outdrew pocket kings with on his way to winning EPT Deauville.

"I still open it because I look up to you so much," continued Grafton. In the hand in question there had been pre-flop and flop betting with the majority of chips going in on the turn of a [7s][3h][2h][10s] board, his opponent - Christopher Howden - had pocket eights and didn't get there on the [5d] river.

After the hand Grafton apologised to Howden about the outdraw saying that he had got very lucky to get there and Howden had played his hand very well. Grafton had 283,000 left on the turn and he in fact covered Howden meaning we lose another player and that Grafton now has around 700,000. -- NW

1:50pm: Cody busts Tinnion to climb to 800,000
"Nice hand," said Robert Tinnion to Jake Cody as the Brit passed the last of his chips to the Team PokerStars Pro. In truth it was a cooler but Tinnion still felt like he could've got away.

The action had passed to Cody, who was on the button, he raised to 18,000 and called when Tinnion three-bet to 46,000 from the big blind. On the [10h][8d][2h] flop Tinnion c-bet 52,000 and Cody smooth called. The [5d] fell on the turn, Tinnion checked, Cody bet 72,000, Tinnion check-raised all-in for what looked like around 200,000 and Cody snap called. "Ah you've got aces," said Tinnion as he showed pocket jacks, Cody did indeed have [Ah][Ad] and his hand held on the [10s] river.

He's up to 800,000 after that hand and amongst the chip leaders as are Christina Bauer (820,000) and Vicente Delgado (700,000). We'll be getting full chip counts on the break. -- NW

1:40pm: A silly game
Grahap Phipps turned to the PokerStars Blog and said: "poker's a silly game isn't it," he was nursing a smaller stack than when we last looked. "I had ace-jack against the ladies ace-ten and she hit a ten."

The lady in question was Katja Svendsen, the Norwegian is up to 150,000 whilst Phipps drops to 140,000. -- NW

1:35pm: Garcia Diaz breaths a sigh of relief
Gaelle Garcia Diaz is firmly in the danger zone and having to shove to stay afloat. Javier Elorza has similar problems so it came as no surprise to see the two of them tangle in a pot.

Diaz shoved for around 60,000 from under the gun and Elorza moved all in for around 100,000 more from the small blind.

Diaz: [ah][5d]
Elorza: [ac][kc]

The board ran [jd][2c][2d][9s][jh] to chop it. Garcia Diaz looked to the heavens and blow out a load of air and mouthed, "Wow!" -- MC

1:20pm: Nick Cornelis doubles through Paul McTaggart
Pretty standard this one as Nick Cornelis shoved for 97,000 from early position with pocket sixes and Paul McTaggart looked him up with ace-king. A [2c][5c][3s][5s][9s] board kept the pair in front and doubled Corenlis. After that hand McTaggart is down to around 300,000. -- NW

ukipt4_marbella_day3_paul_mctaggart.jpg

Despite that hit McTaggart is still comfortably stacked

1:15pm: Millar cross after losing
Darren Millar was shaking his head after losing a bit pot to David Gutierrez, I only saw the showdown but Gutierrez had pocket nines on a [4h][7c][9d][5c][Qs] board and Millar held [6h][4d] which suggests the money went in on the turn. Millar was busy shipping 201,000 to Guitierrez who collected that plus what was already in the middle. -- NW

1:10pm: Mario karted out by Bingham
Mario Karman found a good spot to get his short stack in but was ousted by Tommy Bingham with a dominating ace.

The action folded to Karman on the button and he shoved for 40,000. Bingham was in the big blind with 60,000 and made the call.

Karman: [as][th]
Bingham: [ad][jh]

The board ran [9c][5c][2c][4h][6s] and Bigham's kicker played. -- MC

1:05pm: Barwinski breaks the million chip mark

LEVEL UP: BLINDS 4,000/8,000 ante 1,000

1pm: Cody soaring
Team PokerStars Pro Jake Cody has taken less than a level to get back above the mark he was at last night before he lost ace-king to ace-queen in a huge pot. He was helped by Emilio Jimenez bluffing off his whole stack to him.

Cody raised to 12,000 and was called by both blinds with Jimenez in the big blind. The flop came [3d][7c][th] and Cody continued for 20,000. The small blind folded but Jimenez check-raised to 50,000. Cody stared down his opponent whilst he asked for a count of his remaining stack and then three-bet to 85,000 when he was told his opponent had 150,000 back.

The Brit's eyes widened with surprise when Jimenez just called and may have influenced his to decision to check back the [qd] turn. Jimenez then shoved the [ad] and Cody called with [ah][td] for two pair. Jimenez tried to muck but the dealer opened [5s][4h] for the bluff. Cody up to 550,000. -- MC

12:40pm: Cody claims some back
Team PokerStars Pro Jake Cody started the day with 354,000 he must've lost some though as despite just winning a big pot he's got roughly 375,000.

The PokerStarsBlog joined the action on the turn there was 60,000 in the pot and a [Ks][6c][9h][As] board on the felt, Robert Tinnion bet 33,000 and after Cody counted how many chips he had left in his stack he slid out the call. The [4s] river completed the flush draw, Tinnion checked, Cody bet 48,000 and Tinnion tank called. Cody rolled over [Ah][9c] for two pair and Tinnion mucked.

So Cody up to 375,000, Tinnion down to 275,000. -- NW

12:32pm: Dalfo wheeled out the door
It was an unfortunate end for Ladislao Dalfo after he was eliminated despite having a dominating hand.

Christian Ruiz raised to 12,000 from mid position and was committed to call Dalfo's shove for less than 50,000 from the small blind.

Dalfo: [ad][kc]
Ruiz: [as][5s]

The board ran [qc][2s][kh][3c][4s] to make a wheel and a flush for Ruiz. -- MC

12:20pm: High Roller update
The High Roller also restarted at noon with 35 of the 114 players still in contention. They include Tom Middleton, Alex Goulder, Duncan McLellan, David Yan but they all trail Heinz Traut who starts the day as chip leader. -- NW

12:18pm: Dream start for Clemmensen
Just like the Spanish football team last night, Martin Clemmensen has had a dream start and scored a double up. He'll be hoping the rest of his day doesn't go like the remainder of the match.

He raised from under the gun and then called all in for 80,000 after Hans Stokkenes shoved from the button.

Stokkenes: [9c][9d]
Clemmensen: [ah][kh]

The board ran [5c][as][ac][jd][3d] to make Clemmensen trip aces. Stokkenes was left with around 60,000-- MC

12:10pm: Three early exits
It didn't take long for the first exits of the day...

First to go was Cormac Moylan when his pocket tens lost out to Olvedo Heinze's pocket jacks. The Irishman was all-in pre-flop for about 20 big blinds.

Then on the next hand at that table Patxi Salinas shoved for 10 big blinds with [8][7] and got called by the [K][J] of similarly stacked Yakup Gulkaya. Neither player hit, and the former professional football player is now a former participant in this poker tournament.

And Israel Pelaz is another early faller. -- NW

12:02pm: Shuffle up and deal!

10:45pm: Sam Grafton eliminated in 9th place (€10,300)
Sam Grafton had a fifth of the chips in play not that long ago but he's just been eliminated by Katja Svendsen who will enter tomorrow's final table as the chip leader.

Svendsen opened to 85,000 from under the gun and called when Grafton three-bet to 200,000 from the button. Both players checked the [5c][kd][4c] flop before she led for 275,000 on the [tc] turn. Call.

Grafton was left with 853,000 and Svendsen set him in on the [7d] river. Grafton called with [jh][jd] but Svendsen opened [ac][ah].

Grafton - 10th place

Full chip counts and a wrap of the day's play will be up on the blog shortly. Cards up action will be shown on PokerStars.tv from 1pm CET time tomorrow and the updates run alongside the delayed coverage. -- MC

10:30pm: Espinosa over three million
Rodrigo Espinosa has moved clear at the top with 3.25 million after forcing Marcin Barwinski off a hand.

He raised to 80,000 from under the gun and Barwinski defended his big blind to see a [8d][tc][qd] flop where both players checked.

Espinosa's delayed 90,000 c-bet was check-raised up to 315,000 by Barwinski on the [7s] turn. Call. Barwinski led for 375,000 on the [9d] river but folded to a raise to 1,075,000. He dropped to 1.493 million. -- MC

10:25pm: Hamilton getting short
He was already the short stack but Gareth Hamilton's down to 11 big blinds after he lost two pots in a row.

First of all he raised from under the gun but folded to a Christian Bauer three-bet.

The next hand he peeled from the big blind after a raise to 85,000 from Sam Grafton. Both checked the [6s][9d][qh] flop before Hamilton led for 77,000 on the turn. Grafton called and both players went back to checking on the [9c] river. Grafton opened [as][8s] and it was good at the Irishman mucked. -- MC

10:05pm: Grafton squeezes a profit
Sam Grafton hadn't won a pot since the tournament had been down to one table but a well-timed squeeze play worked for him to get him back up to 1.45 million.

Marcin Barwinski raised to 80,000 from the hijack and was called by Jake Cody on the button before Grafton bumped it up to 280,000 from the big blind after thinking for a few minutes. Both opponents made a reluctant looking fold. -- MC

LEVEL UP: BLINDS 20,000/40,000 ante 5,000

9:50pm: Cagey play on final table bubble
It's completely understandable that the play is cagey, and it has, when all the remaining nine players want to make the final table tomorrow. That's especially true when you add in the fact they've gone from playing short-handed to a full ring of nine.

Gareth Hamilton's the player most at danger and he was the first to make a move. The action folded around to Javier Elorza in the cut-off and he raised before Hamilton shoved for 612,000 from the small blind. The Spaniard took his time and mucked. -- MC

9:20pm: Final table redraw
Below is the seat draw for the final table and the chip stacks of the nine remaining players. It's very close at the top with just 13.5 big blinds separating the top four players.

Katja Svendsen, Norway, PokerStars Qualifier, 2,344,000
Gareth Hamilton, Ireland, 743,000
Marcin Barwinski, Poland, PokerStars Player, 2,206,000
Rodrigo Espinosa, Spain, PokerStars Qualifier, 2,002,000
Jake Cody, United Kingdom, Team PokerStars Pro, 1,667,000
Daniel Rodriguez, Spain, PokerStars Player, 611,000
Sam Grafton, United Kingdom, PokerStars Qualifier, 1,712,000
Christian Bauer, Germany, 2,400,000
Javier Elorza, Spain, PokerStars Qualifier, 1,200,000

9:05pm: Antonio Moreno eliminated in 10th place (€8,420)
And we're down to the unofficial final table of nine here in Marbella...

Jake Cody opened to 62,000 and then called when Antonio Moreno moved all-in for 400,000.

Cody: [Ac][10s]
Moreno: [Ad][4h]

The [7s][7h][Kd][Jc][10c] board looked for a while like it'd end in a chop but Cody rivered his kicker to eliminated Moreno and climb to 1,700,000. There will now be a 15 minute break whilst a redraw for the final table is done. -- NW

It's been a very profitable period of play for Katja Svendsen. Sam Grafton was the latest to fall victim and dropped to 1.3 million as she rose to 2.25 million.

The action folded to her on the button and she raised to 65,000. Grafton was in the big blind and three-bet to 145,000. Call. The board ran out [2h][as][2s][4d][6s] and Grafton checked all three streets to the Norwegian. She bet 150,000 and 250,000 before checking behind on the river.

Grafton called both bets and opened [kd][jd] at showdown. Svendsen opened and scooped. -- MC

Blinds up: 15,000/30,000, 4,000 ante

8:45pm: Espinosa takes huge pot from Bauer
There's not a lot to choose between the big stacks right now with a number of players hovering between 2.3M and 2.5M. There are three players at the feature table in that ballpark because Rodrigo Espinosa just won a big pot against Christian Bauer.

Bauer (cut off), Sam Grafton (button) and Espinosa (big blind) all put in 50,000 pre-flop and the dealer fanned [9c][7s][Jd] on the felt. It was checked to Grafton who bet 80,000, Espinosa called, Bauer check-raised to 333,000, Grafton folded and Espinosa then re-raised to 720,000. After a bit of a think Bauer folded the [Js] face up and Espinosa also flashed a jack as he took the pot.

The feature table chip counts are as follows:

Christian Bauer, 2,427,000
Rodrigo Espinosa, 2,409,000
Katja Svendsen, 2,307,000
Sam Grafton, 1,577,000
Daniel Rodriguez, 713,000

8:35pm: Jaroslaw Lipien eliminated in 11th place (€8,420)
Left short on chips after doubling up Gareth Hamilton, the Pole couldn't recover (although he tried to) and is out in 11th.

He did get one double up though, he was all-in for 102,000 and up against Jake Cody's pocket tens. A [Qs][8d][2h] flop gave Lipien the lead and rather unnecessarily Marcin Barwinski celebrated the fact that his fellow countryman had hit his over card. The board ran out [7d][5s] to double up Lipien.

A couple of hands later Lipien shoved for 240,000 with [Qc][Jh] and Barwinski called with [As][Qd]. "Jack, jack, jack," Barwinski chanted but none appeared on the [6s][5d][Kc][8s][2s] board and we're down to 10 players. -- NW

ukipt4_marbella_day3_jaroslaw_lipien.jpg

Lipien has left us in 11th

8:20pm: Emilio Navarro eliminated in 12th place (€7,510)
It wasn't that long ago that Emilio Navarro sat atop of the chip counts but a series of lost pots saw him short and forced to make a move that cost him his tournament life.

He open shoved for 490,000 and was isolated by Katja Svendsen who moved all in from the small blind.

Navarro: [4s][4d]
Svendsen: [js][jh]

The board ran [6s][9s][2s][kh][ad] to see the jacks hold to send Svendsen's stack up to 1.6 million.

Despite what must've been an incredibly frustrating period for the Spaniard, he took defeat with a smile and shook all his opponents' hands before heading off to get his money. -- MC

Navarro - 12th place

8:15pm: Barwinski doubles through Hamilton
Gareth Hamilton didn't keep hold of those extra chips for too long after he made a big move and doubled up Marcin Barwinski.

The two players went heads-up to an [8s][2s][jh] flop where Barwinski check-raised Hamilton's 68,000 bet up to 210,000. Call. On the [4h] turn Barwinski led for 300,000, leaving himself 470,000 behind.

Hamilton counted out enough chips to set the Pole all in and then stared at him until he had the clock called on him. Then he raised and Barwinski made the call all in with [jd][8h] for two pair, ahead of Hamilton's [kc][js]. The river came as the [7h] and Hamilton dropped back to 975,000 while Barwinski moved up to around two million -- MC

8:05pm: Gareth Hamilton doubles through Jaroslaw Lipien
A huge pot just played out on the outer table and it was Gareth Hamilton and Jaroslaw Lipien who were the combatants.

Pre-flop Lipien raised to 50,000 from the button and called when Hamilton three-bet to 146,000. On the [5c][Qh][Ks] flop Hamilton c-bet 175,000 and Lipien smooth called. The [7d] fell on the turn, Hamilton didn't slow down, instead he bet 275,000 a bet which Lipien flat called.

So there was already 1,150,000 in the middle by the time the [Ad] completed the board. Hamilton emptied the clip, moving all-in for 380,000 total, Lipien got a count and after a long tank he called, Hamilton showed [Ac][Kc] for top two pair, whilst Lipien had [As][Qc] for an inferior two pair.

After that hand Hamilton is up to 1,910,000 whilst Lipien drops to 170,000. -- NW

7:55pm: Emilio Navarro doubles through Sam Grafton
Sam Grafton has taken a lot of Emilio Navarro's stack over the last hour and it looked like he was about to scoop up the final portion of it until the poker gods intervened.

Grafton had limped from the small blind only for Navarro to shove for 440,000 from the big blind. After getting a count Grafton weighed up the situation and then made the call:

Grafton: [4s][4d]
Navarro: [Ad][3s]

Grafton was a 69% favourite to eliminated Navarro but the Spaniard won the hand as the board came [Qd][5c][Ac][7s][8d] to double him to around 900,000 and drop Grafton to 2,200,000. -- NW

7:50pm: Ken Lennaard eliminated in 13th place (€7,510)
It was unlucky thirteenth for old school Swedish player Ken Lennaard after he fell to Gareth Hamilton.

He was down to his last 346,000 when he shoved from the hijack and was isolated by Hamilton who shoved from the button.

Lennaard: [qs][jc]
Hamilton: [ah][ac]

The board ran [ks][kc][td][2d][3c] and Hamilton and his supporters, who's gather around behind him, erupted in celebration. That pot put him up to 970,000 chips. -- MC

7.30pm: Final 13 back to play down to the final table
The 750 runners in the PokerStars Marbella Festival have been whittled down to the final 13 players and are all guaranteed at least €7,510. But they'll have their eyes on a bigger prize and not necessarily a monetary one.

Only eight will make the final table tomorrow and among the 13 trying to do that we have five Spaniards, two Poles, one player each from Norway, Germany, Sweden and Ireland and two Brits. And it's the two Brits who are the headline makers right now as Sam Grafton has a big chip lead and Team PokerStars Pro Jake Cody is trying to final table his first UKIPT Main Event having previously won a UKIPT Series and a UKIPT High Roller.

Play is about to restart we'll bring you the latest chip counts shortly when we receive them. -- NW

When the eight players sit down to contest the PokerStars Marbella Festival final table tomorrow at noon Katja Svendsen will have the chip lead but the focus of attention will be on Team PokerStars Pro Jake Cody.

Can Cody win another Triple Crown

The Triple Crown winner will start fourth in chips tomorrow with 1,600,000 which is just below average but still 40 big blinds, in his quest to complete a personal UKIPT Triple Crown. In February 2011 he won the UKIPT High Roller event in Nottingham, whilst in April 2013 he won the inaugural UKIPT Series event, so he just needs the Main Event title to complete his collection. His day was full of peaks and troughs but every time he dipped he was soon on the rise again and has a great chance of taking the title tomorrow. "It could've gone better as I had 1,500,000 with 30 left and ended with 1,600,000, but I'm happy," he said.

ukipt4_marbella_day3_katja_svendsen.jpg

Svendsen is number one but can she be two times a first lady?

A chat with an Estrellas Poker Tour colleague earlier revealed the fact that no woman has ever won an Estrellas Main Event title. Whilst Liv Boeree, Trish Mallin and Fatima Moreira de Melo have all won silver on the UKIPT no one has yet struck gold. Norway's Katja Svendsen is, therefore, in with a chance of breaking both ducks in one foul swoop tomorrow. She played a patient yet aggressive game today to instil a mixture of fear and respect about her game from her opponents. She was never the chip leader though, not until the final hand that is where she eliminated Sam Grafton with aces against jacks to seize the lead at the last.

ukipt4_marbella_day3_javier_elorza.jpg

Elorza is guaranteed his biggest ever live cash

What with this being a UKIPT/Estrellas production it's no surprise that there's a number Spanish players amongst the final eight. What is though is that the triumvirate of Spaniards who've reached the final table are all relatively inexperienced in the live arena. Between them, Javier Elorza, Daniel Rodriguez and Rodrigo Espinosa's combined winnings total just $26,182, each of them is guaranteed their biggest live cash ever regardless of where they finish tomorrow.

Espinosa, with 3,705,000 in chips, is Spain's most likely shot at a champion tomorrow as both Elorza (880,000) and Rodriguez (720,000) are short stacked. Although only relatively so as they they have 22 and 18 big blinds respectively.

UKIPT4_Marbella2_Marcin Barwinski.jpg

It was an up, down but ultimately successful day for Barwinski

Leading the way at the start of play today was Marcin Barwinski and the Pole had a huge lead of 40 big blinds from his nearest challenger. At that start of the day it looked like he was simply going to run over the field. He was the first to breach the million chip mark, he had 12% of the chips in play with over 50 players left and had an average stack for the final table with four tables left. But, and you sensed a but, then it all went a bit wrong. His downfall started when he lost a huge 2,000,000 chip pot to Emilio Navarro with 17 players left.

To the Pole's credit he never panicked and such was his stack he still had 50 big blinds to work with. He regrouped, rebuilt, knuckled down and it was only a tail off at the end that means he'll start in fifth place tomorrow with 1,055,000.

ukipt4_marbella_day3_christian_bauer.jpg

Bauer went incognito

There's more than enough clichés on this page already but Christian Bauer's day was, very German. He simply and efficiently went about his business and, for the most part, flew under the radar. In fact we saw him play very few big pots of note throughout the entire day. To his credit then he must've won a heck of a lot of small pots as he's in third place heading to the final table with a stack of 2,425,000. He's got a fair bit of experience to back up the guile as he finished ninth at Eureka Vienna in March of this year and has an eighth place finish in a €2,000 High Roller from EPT Barcelona in August 2013 too. And as you know at this time of year you can never write off the Germans.

ukipt4_marbella_day3_sam_grafton.jpg

Grafton - fell at the last

At this point we were hoping to be able to write about UKIPT regular Sam Grafton's first final table on the UKIPT because for all his success on the tour he's yet to make that elusive final table. Twice he's fallen two tables out but today looked like the day he was going to get the monkey off his back.

The colourful Londoner was chip leader with 13 left as a result of winning a bit pot against Emilio Navarro to oust the Spaniard as chip leader. At that point he was closing in on a fifth of the chips in play, then a series of unfortunate events, including doubling up Navarro when he was a 70% favourite, saw him slip back into the pack and then ultimately out of the tournament.

ukipt4_marbella_day3_paul_mctaggart.jpg

McTaggart just couldn't win a race

When the clock ticked noon there were 71 players still in with a shot at the main event title, so what of the 63 we lost along the way? Some like Patxi Salinas (70th, €2,270), and Jose Mestre (65th, €2,270) died trying to spin their short stacks into something more significant.

Whilst others like Paul McTaggart (33rd, €2,950) Neil Raine (27th, €3,890) and Vicente Delgado (20th, €5,320) simply couldn't win the big pots when it mattered. For the full list of payouts click here.

Here are the details of the eight players who will today go looking for the title of UKIPT4 Marbella2 champion. Here's a review of how they got here. Remember and you can follow along on pokerstars.tv.

Seat 1. Katja Svendsen, 34, Norway, PokerStars Qualifier - 3,910,000

ukipt4_marbella_day3_katja_svendsen.jpg

Katja Spillum Svendsen originally hails from Norway but now lives near East Grinstead in England. Katja is a professional poker player specializing in online games, and she qualified online at PokerStars. She also plays backgammon professionally. Katja goes into the final table as chip leader, and we could see UKIPT and Estrellas history being made by the end of the day - if she wins, Katja will be the first female winner of either a UKIPT or an Estrellas Main Event.

Seat 2. Gareth Hamilton, 35, Derry, UK - 590,000

ukipt4_marbella_day3_gareth_hamilton.jpg

Gareth Hamilton lives in Derry, Northern Ireland, where he mostly spends his time playing live tournaments. All the evidence suggests that he is extremely good at them - he won his Main Event seat in a €40 satellite at his local card room, and among his other live results are a $30,000 cash in the WSOP Main Event and an Irish Open side event that he chopped for €24,000. He's come over from Northern Ireland with a big group of friends, so expect some enthusiastic railing for Gareth come the final table.

Seat 3. Marcin Barwinski, 22, Lubcin, Poland, PokerStars Player - 1,055,000

UKIPT4_Marbella2_Marcin Barwinski.jpg

At just 22 years-old, Marcin Barwinski has been playing poker since the moment he came of age, four and a half years ago. He describes himself as a heads-up cash game professional and although he admits he doesn't make a lot of money, he says it's enough for him to live in relatively inexpensive Poland. Consequently he won't be going overboard if he wins tomorrow - but he concedes that he might treat himself to a new car

Seat 4. Rodrigo Espinosa, 34, Spain, PokerStars Qualifier - 705,000

ukipt4_marbella_day3_rodrigo_espinosa.jpg

Rodrigo Espinoso lives in Burgos in Northern Spain. He is mostly a live player, but whichever place he finishes in, this will be his best ever live result. He keeps good company too - Espinosa is good friends with Ruben Velasco who finaled an Estrellas Main Event in 2012 and is one of the best-known players in Spain.

Seat 5. Jake Cody, 25, Rochdale, UK, Team PokerStars Pro - 1,600,000

ukipt4_marbella_day3_jake_cody3.jpg

Triple Crown winner and Team PokerStars Pro Jake Cody needs no introduction. A veteran of countless final tables and possessor of over $3.7 million in tournament winnings despite his tender years, Cody is by far the most experienced player at this final table, and the fact that he is going into the final with less than half the stack of chip leader Katja Spillum Svendsen will not faze him in the slightest.

Seat 6. Daniel Rodriguez, 26, Cordoba, Spain - 720,000

ukipt4_marbella_day3_daniel_rodriguez.jpg

Daniel Rodriguez comes from near Cordoba, and is our official short stack going into the final table. He is unlikely to be worried, though - Daniel makes his living as an online poker pro playing mostly €1,000 NLH cash games, and he is used to playing for big bucks. He plans to go to Las Vegas this summer to play the WSOP Main Event, so the minimum €13,030 cash he picks up tomorrow at the PokerStars Marbella Festival final table will definitely be put to good use.

Seat 7. Christian Bauer, 27, Germany - 2,425,000

ukipt4_marbella_day3_christian_bauer.jpg

Christian Bauer hails from Germany but is now resident in Vienna where he makes a living as a professional poker player. He plays both live and online, but despite finishing ninth in the Eureka Main Event in Vienna earlier this year, he leans heavily towards the online game. He plays on PokerStars under the screen name "iPUNI$H" where he's amassed almost $1.3 million in total winnings, including $47,000 for first place in a TCOOP event.

Seat 8. Javier Elorza, 24, Pamplona, Spain, PokerStars Qualifier - 880,000

ukipt4_marbella_day3_javier_elorza.jpg

At just 24 years-old, Jave Elorza is our second youngest finalist, and our second shortest stack going into the final. Elorza hails from Pamplona where he mostly plays online. This is his biggest live score by far - his total live winnings up until today comprise just €386, but he is clearly a force to be reckoned with at the live table.

5:50pm: Christian Bauer eliminated in 2nd place (€82,900)
Heads up play lasted five hands before Christian Bauer was eliminated in second place.

Rodrigo Espinosa raised to 225,000 from the button and Bauer defended his big blind to see a [9s][ks][6h] flop appear.

Espinosa continued for 255,000 and was check-raised to 825,000 by Bauer. The German was playing 2,450,000 and was asked a question for all of it as Espinosa shoved. Call!

Bauer: [kc][3c] for top pair.
Espinosa: [9h][7s] for second pair.

The board ran out [7c][2d] to see Espinosa suck out and make two pair, good for all 15 millions chips in play.

Bauer played a really great game where he never seemed to be in trouble, the deck just wouldn't work with him at the end. -- MC

Bauer defeated after quick heads up battle

5:40pm: First two pots to Espinosa
Rodrigo Espinosa moved up to 12.3 million chips after he won the first two pots of heads up play.

The first pot was won with a pre flop three-bet but the second made it to the turn.
Espinosa raised to 250,000 and Christian Bauer peeled to a [jh][ks][6c] flop where he check-called 325,000. Call. The turn was the [kd] and the Spaniard fired 550,000. Bauer folded. -- MC

Christian Bauer, Germany, 3,360,000 (33 bbs)
-- MC

5:15pm: Katja Svendsen eliminated in 3rd place (€58,700)
Katja Svendsen's run has come to an end after she gambled on a flush draw and missed.

She was sat in the big blind with [6d][8d] and called a raise from Rodrigo Espinosa on the button with [kd][kh]. The flop fell [9d][ts][3d] and Espinosa continued for 250,000 before the Norwegian check-raised to 500,000.

Espinosa came back with a three-bet to 1,000,000 and then announced all in a second after Svendsen said raise. She hadn't announced how much she was going to raise though and the floor was called. Toby Stone ruled that Svendsen had to raise but only minimum if she wanted. That's what she did and Espinosa still shoved and Svendsen called all in for 4,860,000.

The board ran out [jh][jc] and the UKIPT/ESPT wait for a female champion will continue. -- MC

UKIPT4_Marbella2_Katja Svendsen.jpg

Katja Svendsen - 3rd place

5:05pm: Espinosa continues to leak chips
Katja Svendsen just made a nice play and got Rodrigo Espinosa to fold the best hand. Pre-flop she raised to 225,000 from the small blind with [9h][7h] and then called when Espinosa three-bet to 525,000 with [Qd][Jh]. The flop fell [As][Qs][4c] Svendsen elected to lead and her bet of 625,000 was enough to make Espinosa fold the best hand. -- NW

5pm: Svendsen reassertion continues
Katja Svendsen moved up to 3.8million after a rare three-way raised pot.

Rodrigo Espinosa raised with [kd][js] and Christian Bauer ([7h][7c]) and Svendsen ([qd][6s]) both called to a [2s][qs][5h] flop from the blinds.

Espinosa continued for 320,000 and was called by the German before Svendsen check-raised to 800,000. Both opponents folded and she scooped. -- MC

4:55pm: Bauer barrels
Rodrigo Espinosa has proved himself to be a sticky player and it took a couple of barrels from Christian Bauer to get the Spaniard off a one pair hand. Bauer opened the button to 200,000 with [Js][3s] and Espinosa defended from the big blind with [Kd][5s].

The [8s][5h][2d] flop connected only with Espinosa, nonetheless Bauer bet 225,000 and Espinosa smooth called. The [Ac] fell on the turn, after Espinosa checked Bauer decided to continue to sell the story that he had it and bet 425,000. Espinosa obviously believed him as he elected to fold his hand, Bauer is up to 4,300,000 as a result. Could we be seeing a shift in momentum at this final table?

4:50pm: Ups and downs for Svendsen
There's a trend devolving today with Katja Svendsen. She's lost ground a few times today before reasserting herself.

She lost a pot to Christian Bauer after she three-bet him pre flop and won one the very next hand versus Javier Espinosa.

She completed from the small blind and called after the Spaniard raised to 300,000 from the big blind. The flop fanned [qc][7s][8s] and she checked to face a 360,000 c-bet that she check-raised to 720,000.

Her [kc][7c] was ahead of his [9c][3d] and he correctly folded. Her stack rose to 2.8 million. -- MC

LEVEL UP: BLINDS 50,000-100,000, ante 10,000

4:35pm: Chips still being passed around
There's been little change in the chip stacks in the last 30 minutes, but Katja Svendsen and Christian Bauer have traded places as the German is now in second place.

Rodrigo Espinosa, Spain, PokerStars Qualifier, 8,295,000
Christian Bauer, Germany, 3,455,000
Katja Svendsen, Norway, PokerStars Qualifier, 3,155,000

4:30pm: Chips being passed around
The players are staying aggressive and we're seeing some three-bets and bluffs, just no hands are matching up to create any big pots. Watch this space though as action is bound to be around the corner. -- MC

4:17pm: Chip counts
Rodrigo Espinosa is still in the lead and he now has 54,5% of the chips in play.

Rodrigo Espinosa, Spain, PokerStars Qualifier, 8,175,000
Katja Svendsen, Norway, PokerStars Qualifier, 3,415,000
Christian Bauer, Germany, 3,295,000

4:15pm: Final table poker face
Roll up, roll up for a game of final table poker face. We particular like Jake Cody's little nod. It's as if he's saying, "I know, another final table!".

4:10pm: Svendsen four-bets to a win
Katja Svendsen stopped the small slide she was experiencing by four-betting her way to victory against Rodrigo Espinosa.

She was in the small blind with [ad][tc] and min raised to 160,000. Espinosa was in the big blind and three-bet to 360,000 with [as][4s]. The Norwegian wasn't going to be pushed around though and forced a fold from the Spaniard by four-betting to 800,000. That got her back up to 3.1 million. -- MC

3:55pm: Javier Elorza eliminated in fourth place (€44,450)
And just like that we're down to three...
During this final table Christian Bauer has shoved on Javier Elorza a few times when it had folded to him in the small blind. On one occasion Elorza folded a weak king when Bauer had [Qd][8d].

When Bauer did it again Elorza decided to call all-in for 760,000 with [Kc][7h] but picked the wrong time to make a stand as Bauer held [Ad][Kd]. The board ran [8c][8s][Qh][3s][4c] and Elorza is out in fourth place. Bauer is up to 3,400,000 and is second in chips. -- NW

ukipt4_marbella_day4_javier_elorza.jpg

3:45pm: Gareth Hamilton eliminated in 5th place (€35,150)
Gareth Hamilton's eventful Main Event has come to an end and he was unlucky to bust in his last hand.

Javier Elorza was in the cut-off and tanked before folding ace-deuce. No such tanking for Hamilton though who shoved from the small blind and was called by Rodrigo Espinosa in the big blind.

Hamilton: [kd][kc]
Espinosa: [ad][8d]

The board ran [4s][9h][td][jd][6d] to make the chips leader a flush. Hamilton shook his hand and was all smiles in defeat. Espinosa rose to 8.5 million chips, more than half of those in play. -- MC

He three-bet shoved for 470,000 with pocket tens and Katja Svendsen, who already had 160,000 invested in the pot, called the extra with [Ac][Jh]. The [7d][Kh][8c][Ks][Qd] board kept Hamilton in front and he's up to 1,010,000 as a result. -- NW

Final table

Katja Svendsen, Norway, PokerStars Qualifier, 3,120,000
Gareth Hamilton, Ireland, 480,000
Rodrigo Espinosa, Spain, PokerStars Qualifier, 7,895,000
Christian Bauer, Germany, 2,430,000
Javier Elorza, Spain, PokerStars Qualifier, 960,000

3:10pm: Javier Elorza doubles through Gareth Hamilton
After a brief lull in the action the table was woken from its slumber by an all-in and call. It was Javier Elorza doing the shoving - all-in for 490,000 with [Ah][3h] - and Gareth Hamilton doing the calling with [Ad][Js].

However, a [9s][5d][3s][6d][Ac] board gave Elorza the winning hand, he's up to 1,090,000 whilst Hamilton is down to 440,000. -- NW

3pm: Espinosa turning the screw
Rodrigo Espinosa's great start to the day has shown no signs of slowing down. He won two pots off Christian Bauer to move up to 6.7 million.

In the first hand he opened with [ad][tc] and was only called by Bauer who held [ah][kc]. Both checked the flop before Bauer barrelled 155,000 and 350,000 on the turn and river. The final board read [2c][7s][2d][qh][js] and Bauer gave up on the river.

A couple of hands later Espinosa raised with [4d][5d] and Bauer called with [7h][5h]. The Spaniard flopped a wheel on a [ac][2c][3s] flop but failed to get any action. -- MC

2:45pm: Espinosa extends his lead
When you're the chip leader and looking to extend your lead taking chips from the player in second is flat out the best way to do it, which is exactly what Rodrigo Espinosa just did.

UKIPT4_Marbella2_Rodrigo Espinosa_M3DM9640.jpg

Espinosa is the man to catch

After Katja Svendsen raised to 120,000 from the cut off with [9c][7c] he defended from the small blind with [Qd][10d]. The [7d][6h][4s] flop gave Svendsen the lead which was all the impetus she needed to continue for 130,000, it wasn't the end of the hand though as Espinosa stuck around.

The [10s] fell on the turn he checked, then she checked and the [2d] completed the board. First to act Espinosa threw out a bet of 205,000 and Svendsen thought for a while before calling, Espinosa showed the winner and Svendsen mucked. -- NW

2:40pm: Chip count update
Katja Svendsen, Norway, PokerStars Qualifier, 4,0700,000
Gareth Hamilton, Ireland, 1,220,000
Rodrigo Espinosa, Spain, PokerStars Qualifier, 5,570,000
Christian Bauer, Germany, 3,245,000
Javier Elorza, Spain, PokerStars Qualifier, 780,000

2:35pm: Daniel Rodriguez eliminated in sixth place (€26,550)
From under-the-gun Christian Bauer raised to 120,000, it passed to Daniel Rodriguez in the big blind and he moved all-in for 940,000 with [8s][8d]. There then followed a snap call from Bauer with [Qc][Qd] and the board ran [4s][Jd][5s][Kd][2d] meaning we lose Rodriguez in sixth place.

After that hand Bauer is up to 3,155,000. -- NW

ukipt4_marbella_day4_daniel_rodriguez.jpg

Rodriguez's race is run

2:25pm: Espinosa, the five million chip man
Rodrigo Espinosa escaped a dominating position in a hand versus Katja Svendsen to re-take the lead from her.

He was in the big blind and called a raise to 125,000 from Svendsen. Both players checked the [3s][jc][9s] flop before Espinosa check-raised Svendsen's 150,000 bet up to 360,000 on the [qh] turn. Svendsen made a quick call but took a lot longer to call 500,000 on the [5s] river.

Espinosa opened [as][js] for a flush and rose to 5,070,000. Svendsen's [ad][qc] was no good and she dropped to 4,200,000. -- MC

Blinds up: 30,000/60,000, ante 10,000

2:15pm: Big ace vs big ace
In the time it took to go from 18 players down to eight Christian Bauer and Katja Svendsen played quite a few pots together with the Norwegian coming out on top more often than not and she just repeated the trick as the two of them just clashed in a pot.

From the button Bauer raised to 100,000 with [ah][10h], Svendsen three-bet to 240,000 from the big blind with [As][Ks] and Bauer smooth called. The [7s][10s][Qd] flop gave Bauer the lead but Svendsen a big combo draw. She bet 150,000, Bauer made the call and the [Kc] fell on the turn. Despite taking the lead Svendsen checked, but Bauer didn't fall for it as he checked behind. The [Kh] completed the board and Svendsen bet big, firing out 500,000 into the pot, although Bauer dwelled for a short time he ultimately elected to fold. -- NW

2:05pm: Chip count update
Katja Svendsen, Norway, PokerStars Qualifier, 4,390,000
Gareth Hamilton, Ireland, 1,500,000
Marcin Barwinski, Poland, PokerStars Player, 7th place
Rodrigo Espinosa, Spain, PokerStars Qualifier, 4,495,000
Jake Cody, United Kingdom, Team PokerStars Pro, 8th place
Daniel Rodriguez, Spain, PokerStars Player, 860,000
Christian Bauer, Germany, 2,525,000
Javier Elorza, Spain, PokerStars Qualifier, 1,050,000

2pm: Marcin Barwinski eliminated in 7th place (€19,050)
Gareth Hamilton came back and finished the job off he started on Marcin Barwinski.

The action folded to him on the small blind and he set Barwinski all in. The PokerStars qualifier called all in from the big blind.

Hamilton: [as][jh]
Barwinski: [qc][jd]

The board ran [8c][kc][2c][kd][4s] and Hamilton cheered at his progress. -- MC

Hamilton and Barwinski battle

1:55pm: Jake Cody eliminated in eighth place (€13,030)
We've lost the first player at the final table and the other seven players will be breathing a sigh of relief as its Team PokerStars Pro Jake Cody who's been eliminated. Rodrigo Espinosa opened to 105,000 from under-the-gun+1 with pocket aces, next to act Cody moved all-in for 1,180,000 with pocket nines and when it folded back to Espinosa he snap called.

Cody was on his feet as the [Kc][4s][6d][8d][Qd] board was dealt and even that little trick couldn't persuade the Poker Gods to put a third nine amongst the community cards. Cody shook hands with his opponent's and it's back to Vegas tomorrow for Cody. -- NW

ukipt4_marbella_day4_jake_cody.jpg

Cody - nothing he could do about his exit hand

1:50pm: Hamilton doubles through Barwinski
Gareth Hamilton very much needed a double up and he found it.

Down to 490,000, he moved all in from early position with [ad][ks] and found a customer in Marcin Barwinski who held [ah][js]. The board ran [8s][7c][2c][7s][ts].

Barwinski was left with 540,000 after the loss. -- MC

1.35pm: Rodriguez shoves
After Jake Cody opened to 100,000 with [Ah][8d] Daniel Rodriguez moved all-in for 605,000 with pocket aces. It folded back to Cody and despite the fact he was getting a decent price to call the 12 big blind shove, he did a quick count of his stack, decided it was too much to call and folded his hand. -- NW

1:30pm: Svendsen flush with chips
Katja Svendsen moved up to 4.7 million chips after making a flush versus Marcin Barwinski.

She raised from early position with [ac][3c] and went on to bet every street of a [6c][7d][2c][5c][9d] board including all in on the river. Barwinski called all the way to the river with [as][qd] but folded the river and dropped down to 1.1 million. -- MC

1:25pm: Svendsen three-bet gets it done
The chip leader just added more to her stack but she was a touch unlucky not to add more given that Jake Cody and Christian Bauer both made disciplined folds. It was Bauer who got the action started, raising to 100,000 with [Ks][Jd], Svendsen then three-bet to 225,000 from the cut-off with [Ah][Kc] and it folded to Jake Cody in the big blind. He looked down at [As][Qc] and thought for a minute or so before folding and Bauer swiftly followed suit. -- NW

LEVEL UP: BLINDS 25,000/50,000 ante 5,000

1:20pm: Barwinski semi bluffs with the best hand
Marcin Barwinski negated a positional disadvantage to oust Rodrigo Espinosa off a hand.

The latter raised with [kd][qd] from under the gun and the Pole peeled from the big blind with [ah][jh]. The flp came [4h][tc][7d] and Barwinski check-called a 105,000 bet before he led for 125,000 on the [9h] turn. Espinosa folded. -- MC

1:10pm: First blood to Barwinski
We had a showdown on the very first hand...

Marcin Barwinski opened to 80,000 and Rodrigo Espinosa made the call. On the [4h][3s][9c] flop Barwinski c-bet and Espinosa stuck around. Both players checked the [Ks] turn and the [Qd] landed on the river. Barwinski decided to stab again, he bet 80,000 and perhaps a little surprisingly Espinosa decided to look him up. Pot to Barwinski. -- NW

1:05pm: Shuffle up and deal!
There are eight minutes left in level 25 and cards are in the air. -- MC

12:50pm: Final table about to commence
It's final table day at the PokerStars Marbella Festival and eight players are still in with the chance of succeeding last year's champion, Ludovic Geilich, and claiming the top prize of €136,000.

ukipt4_marbella_day3_jake_cody3.jpg

Cody still in contention

Katja Svendsen leads the way with more than 3.9 million. A lot of those chips came from eliminating British pro Sam Grafton in ninth place last night. Grafton had nearly a fifth of the chips in play with 15 left but a dramatic downswing saw him leave as the final table bubble boy.

One British hero may have busted but another one is still very much alive. Team PokerStars Pro Jake Cody flew in especially from Las Vegas where he's competing at the WSOP and he's justified his decision by making the final act.

Here's how the final eight line up today:

Katja Svendsen, Norway, PokerStars Qualifier, 3,910,000
Gareth Hamilton, Ireland, 590,000
Marcin Barwinski, Poland, PokerStars Player, 1,055,000
Rodrigo Espinosa, Spain, PokerStars Qualifier, 3,705,000
Jake Cody, United Kingdom, Team PokerStars Pro, 1,600,000
Daniel Rodriguez, Spain, PokerStars Player, 720,000
Christian Bauer, Germany, 2,425,000
Javier Elorza, Spain, PokerStars Qualifier, 880,000

Spain reign as Rodrigo Espinosa wins PokerStars Marbella Festival and €136,000

It what was yet another blink and you'll miss it UKIPT final table, Rodrigo Espinosa emerged victorious in under five hours and is €136,000 better off tonight. He came into the day second in chips, took the chip lead when he eliminated Jake Cody in eighth place and never relinquished it.

ukipt4_marbella_day4_rodrigo_espinosa.jpg

Rodrigo Espinosa - PokerStars Marbella Festival champion

That hand against Cody set the tone for Espinosa's road to victory at the final table. He raised with aces, Cody shoved for just under 20 big blinds with nines and didn't get there. With five players left Espinosa had accumulated more than half the chips in play and would have even more when he won the biggest pot of the tournament with three players left.

ukipt4_marbella_day4_katja_svendsen.jpg

Svendsen - so close to being the first female UKIPT champion

Katja Svendsen had started the final table as chip leader and was in with a great chance of becoming the first female main event champion on both the UKIPT and Estrellas tours. She made a great fist of it too, never slipping out of the top three in chips but bust in a huge flip against Espinosa. On a [10s][9d][3d] flop she held [8d][6d] to Espinosa's pocket kings, the chips - all 10,320,000 of them - went in and she had a 42% chance of having two thirds of the chips in play.

The board bricked out though and the Norwegian, who resides in Kent, was out in third winning €58,700. As for Espinosa, he now had a greater than three-to-one chip lead going into heads-up play against Christian Bauer.

ukipt4_marbella_day4_christian_bauer.jpg

Bauer was in the zone all day

Between them Bauer and Espinosa had knocked out all but one of the players at the final table on the way to heads-up play. Yet Bauer started with less than a million more than he began the final table with, or about nine big blinds in real money given that the price of poker had gone up. Yet he still had 33 big blinds and one double up would've put him right back in the mix. However, it was not to be for the 27-year-old German professional player who resides in Vienna.

ukipt4_marbella_day4_heads_up.jpg

Heads-up play in Marbella

Just five hands into heads-up play he found a great spot to double up. He flopped top pair with [Kc][3c] on a [9s][Ks][6h] board and got it in against Espinosa's [9h][7s], however the Spaniard was given instant service on the [7c] turn and Bauer missed his outs on the [2d] river. Still the online professional collects €82,900 to add to his career earnings and can be rightly proud of his performance this week.

ukipt4_marbella_day4_javier_elorza.jpg

Elorza played a disciplined game

One of Bauer's victims was Javier Elorza, who had lifetime live winnings of just €386 before this tournament. He added another €44,050 to that ledger today but came in short stacked and never escaped that territory. In retrospect he did a superb job to ladder to fourth place. He may have got lucky against Gareth Hamilton with five left but also made some disciplined ICM folds such as folding pocket sixes to a single raise from Espinosa when his compatriot had pocket sevens and folding king high from the big blind when shoved on from the small blind.

But, he picked the wrong time to call all-in with king high as Bauer had [Ad][Kd] when he took his stand with [Kc][7h]. Like Elorza, Daniel Rodriguez came to the final table knowing he'd need some luck to be in the shake up come the end. In the same vein as Elorza he never got anything going and ran pocket eights into Bauer's pocket queens to bust in sixth place which was good for €26,550, a career high.

ukipt4_marbella_day4_gareth_hamilton.jpg

Hamilton - hard to know if he'll be happy or not

If Elorza did a good job to finish fourth given he started the day sixth in chips then Gareth Hamilton can look back on his own laddering job with pride. However, it'll be pride mixed with a sense of what might have been as Hamilton had an eventful day. He was dead last coming to the final table but essentially absorbed Marcin Barwinski's stack into his own by doubling up with [Ad][Ks] against the Pole's [Ah][Jc] and then eliminating him in seventh with [As][Jh] against [Qs][Jc].

ukipt4_marbella_day4_marcin_barwinski.jpg

Barwinski - bust in seventh

Whilst his stack never climbed above the water mark of average he had a legitimate shot at the big money before losing with a dominating ace against Elorza. Despite getting one double up through Svendsen, the Irishman's luckless run continued when his pocket kings were cracked by Espinosa's [Ad][8d] who went runner-runner-runner diamond just for the extra ouch factor.

ukipt4_marbella_day4_jake_cody.jpg

Cody - not the day he'd planned

Neatly nestled in the middle of the pack at the start of play was none other than Team PokerStars Pro Jake Cody. With WSOP, WPT and EPT titles to his name he is one of five owners of the coveted Triple Crown but was in with a shot of completing the UKIPT Triple Crown today, which I'm sure you'll agree is as prestigious! He has UKIPT High Roller and UKIPT Series flags, but the wait goes on for a UKIPT Main Event win as he was first out today.

He'd been forced to raise and fold a few times and had slipped below 20 big blinds when, facing a raise from Espinosa, he peaked down at pocket nines. He committed his chips only to run into the Spaniard's pocket aces. Still he was philosophical in his exit and its back to bracelet hunting for Cody for now.

Staying at the party

So, the blinds were 6k/12k, and I had about 300k in late position. I was on the button and Josh Hart raised to 25k, as he'd done the prior two hands. I looked down and (ding!) AK. I promptly shipped in my 25 blinds. It folded back around to Josh, who snap called with pocket queens. The board ran out nothing interesting and that was it.

I was out of the UKIPT Isle of Man main event, and man was I disappointed.

Now, don't get me wrong. I had just busted out 14th out of 402 runners for £4100. My 22 held up versus QQ for all my chips on day 1, my 44 held up versus pocket rockets late on day 2 for all my chips, and I avoided an A8 sucking out on my A3 for most of my chips early in day 3. In short, it was about time for a pair to catch up with my overcards1.

lee_jones_ukipt_iom_2014.jpg

And here's the thing - it's not that I really wanted more money. I'm never going to turn down four thousand pounds, but it wasn't life changing money. I was disappointed because I had to leave the party.

See, if most of us are completely honest, poker tournaments are not really about the money. I mean, if you seriously expect to make final table money when you enter a large poker tournament, well, I would like some of whatever you're drinking. Even those of us who fancy our chances ("I have £1000 equity for my £770 buy-in") better not do any calculations of what hourly rate that works out to be.

So really, it's all about the party, isn't it?

lee_jones_october_2014.jpg

I've only played two UKIPT events, and they've both been incredibly fun. At every table here in the Isle of Man, we had interesting people who had great stories. We told jokes and laughed. Of course we were taking the poker seriously - there was £65,000 for the eventual winner - but it seems that most of the people I played with knew that they had to get value on the way. I had the fortune/misfortune of having Gary Whipp from Jersey (the original Jersey) on my immediate left for most of Day 1. He has approximately a zillion tales, and I loved hearing every one2. I say "unfortunately" only because he was an active and tricky player - having him on my immediate left was no fun (from a poker perspective).

I got to meet poker players from all over, and even sit at the same table with Vicky Coren for the first time (an honor not to be missed). Then I got to sit at a table with Fatima de Melo, which was equally joyous. And yes, it was I who knocked her out, calling with A3 on the big blind when she shipped 8-10 blinds from the button. Yes, I binked a three on the river to bust her, and I knew immediately that the entire Internet would hate me. But weirdly, I was kinda bummed myself. See, I would have still had (a few) chips if she'd won (as she should have), but Fatima would have still been at the table, being herself and livening up the whole scene. As I tweeted at the time, never have I been so ambivalent about busting an opponent.

Though once again Fatima showed enormous grace by tweeting that my call had been "standard."

I mean, who wants to be the guy who made the life of the party leave?

And then I got invited to a special room at the party, simply by virtue of sticking around long enough. At this room, they have lights and cameras and microphones and they broadcast your table on the Internet. What's more fun than a party if not a party that's being webcast?
So when my AK failed to out-race QQ (yes, at the feature table), I was bummed. Everybody else got to stay at the party and I had to leave. But still, I wouldn't have missed this party for anything - it was awesome.

All I can say is, the next time the United Kingdom & Ireland Party Time comes near you, get a ticket. It's a glorious time and oh, you can actually win money, too.

11:25pm: Last free spin of the dice for Evans
Richard Evans is the current UKIPT Champion of Champions and is thus one of the people to have benefited from the extended nature of Season 4 of the UKIPT. His victory in the one table sit and go back in March 2013 entitled him to buy-ins and accommodation for all UKIPT Season 4 Main Events.

The proud Welshman was a popular winner given that of all the finalists he was the one that was least likely to buy-in or qualify to the events anyway, meaning that it ultimately meant the most to him. We've been tracking his progress all season and, whilst he's been enjoying the experience, he's got one cash to his name for £1,770 which he scored at the Nottingham leg. Given that this is the last event of the season it's Evans' last shot at a free payday. He's hanging in there at the moment, nursing a stack of 34,500. -- NW

11:15pm: Katchalov's stack heads to Meca
Team PokerStars Pro Eugene Katchalov found a spot to get his chips in and catch up but it ended in defeat.

Fatima Moreira De Melo - herself down to 12,600 after running queens into kings - recounted that there had been a raise and call before Patrik Meca squeezed. Katchalov moved all in behind and was called by one player before Meca re-shoved to successfully isolate.

Katchalov failed to beat Meca's kings with his tens and the latter moved into the lead with around 200,000. -- MC

11:05pm: De Melo doing ok, Katchalov needs to catch up
Team PokerStars Pro Eugene Katchalov and Team PokerStars SportStar Fatima Moreira de Melo have been sharing the same oval all day and thus far it's De Melo who's been enjoying her time at table four more.

Both are below average, but it's Katchalov with just 12,000 who's in danger. A short time ago De Melo won a small pot - which had no post-flop betting - against Grzegorz Wyraz to climb to 30,000. -- NW

11pm: Tann busts Rettenmaier
Another big name has gone bust here in London with Marvin Rettenmaier losing his last chips to Willie Tann. The UK poker veteran opened to 2,100 in the cut-off, Epameinondas Sintos three-bet to 4,300 on the button and Rettenmaier then moved all-in for 12,300 from the small blind. When the action got back to Tann he moved all-in for around 25,000 and Sintos swiftly folded.

Rettenmaier: [Ac][Qh]
Tann: [As][Ad]

The [7h][Kh][Jc][3d][Qd] board meant Tann survived the sweat and climbs to over 40,000, whilst Rettenmaier exits into the London night. -- NW

10:55pm: Melin shoves on Visser
Full Tilt Poker's Sin Melin has had an up and down day, which is to be expected lot of the time when you mix it up as much as she does.

She opened from the button and Jacobus Visser (6th at UKIPT Edinburgh) defended his big blind to see a [6h][jh][9d] flop.

Melin continued for 2,200 and shoved for 26,000 after the Dutchman check-raised to 6,500. Visser admitted defeat and folded to maintain his remaining 60,000. -- MC

10:45pm: Shove for victory
UKIPT Dublin winner Kevin Kileen came back from break with a mighty eight big blinds (as you can see from below). He's been trying his best to double up, and he's managed just that, without showdowns is all. He's shoved four or five times but no opponent has had the good to call him, yet. -- MC

10:30pm: So long, see you next season
The 25 chips have been raced off and won't be needed until Season 5 of the UKIPT. The following players will also have to wait to Season 5 for UKIPT Main Event success as they succumbed towards the end of level eight: Daniel Stacey, Ben Senior, Karim Louis, Kevin Allen, Mark Hawks, Christopher Lockhart, Barry Cobb, Richard Hawes and Peter Charalambous. -- NW

Blinds up: 500/1,000, 100 ante

10:07pm: Break time
The players are on their last break of the day. It'll be 20 minutes long.

10pm: Who killed Kenny? Not Willie, who's free
Willie Elliot has been one of the stars of Season 4 on the UKIPT. His final table performance in Nottingham back in May will rank as one of the most entertaining you'll likely to ever see.

London was not to be for him, but he refused to wipe the smile off his face, even on defeat.

The big blow to his stack came in an all in confrontation with David Kenny. Elliot opened to 1,800 from the cut-off and was called by Kenny in small blind en route to a [4c][5h][7c] flop. Elliot continued for 2,000 and was check-called before he bet 4,125 on the [ad] turn. Kenny check-shoved for 13,100 and Elliot called off the extra.

Kenny opened [7h][7d] and even the [ad] on the river couldn't save Elliot's [ac][tc].

Elliot was left with around 6,000 and he was out soon after when his jack-ten failed to beat an opponent's king-queen. -- MC

9:50pm: Big name, small stack
Just under 45% of the field has been eliminated as we reach the final quarter of level eight. 405 of the 736 Day 1B runners remain but plenty of big names are heading to the cash games, side events, bar or bed.

Among those to have felt the icy breath of variance on their neck today are: Daniel Charlton, Christopher Frank, Mitch Johnson, Elisabeth Hille, Nicky Katz, Lee Taylor, Zachary Korik, UKIPT3 London Champion Sergio Aido, Nik Persaud, Ben Vinson, UKIPT3 London runner-up Thomas Ward, Sebastian Von Toperczer, Ben Warrington, Sunil Mistri, Dermot Blain and UKIPT4 runner-up Ian Simpson. -- NW

9:50pm: Room C getting smaller
Not in size obviously, that'd be worrying, but in terms of the number of tables still in use. Just six tables of the Main Event are still raising, checking and folding in that room among them are: Marvin Rettenmaier (29,000), Jack Ellwood (43,000), Nick Rampone (23,000), Espen Solaas (67,000), Antoine Saout (94,000), Dode Elliot (31,000), Paul Delaney (10,300), Martins Adeniya (52,800). -- NW

9:40pm: More for Ludo
Ludovic Geillich's attempt to make back-to-back UKIPT final tables will not suffer by winning races and busting opponents.

He raised from early position with pocket eights and called after the big blind three-bet all in with [ad][9d]. The board ran [ts][5h][2h][ks][js] to send the chips the Scot's way. He moved up to 120,000. -- MC

9:25pm: A few counts
Here are a few counts from the far side of Tournament Room B:

Harry Lodge - 62,000
Sin Melin - 55,000
Nick Newport - 23,000
Jason Barton - 26,000
Kelly Saxby - 22,500

9:20pm: Simon Trumper in disbelief at slowroll treatment
There are nitrolls, unintentional slowrolls and intentional slowrolls. Simon Trumper firmly believes the slowroll he just received falls squarely in the third camp. Given his experience both as a tournament director and poker player it's hard to argue with the facts as he presents them.

"My opponent raised and I re-raised with [Kh][Jh] to get the blinds out and he's called with [Ac][2c]," began Trumper. "The flops come [Q][10][4] with two clubs, so I'm open ended. He checks, I bet and he calls. The turn was the [Kc], giving him the nuts. He checks, I bet, he raises and I call because I know he can do that with a jack or a bare ace," explained the Late Night Poker Series 2 winner.

"The river is a blank and he bets 15,000, which covers me. I think it through and decide my king is good and make the call. He asks the dealer how much and as the dealer counts down my chips, I say, 'I hope this isn't a slowroll,' only after he's got the count does he turn his cards over. I think my kings good when he asks for the dealer to count my chips I couldn't believe it when he turns over the nuts. That's only ever happened once to me once before."

A look at this table revealed that the potential slowroller was Jonas Josefsson. -- NW

Blinds up: 400/800 100 ante

9:10pm: Panka on the double
PCA champion Dominik Panka has got his tournament going back in the right direction after he doubled through Jean-Michel Porcq.

He opened to 1,200 from mid position and was called by both blinds, Porcq being the small blind. The flop fanned [5h][th][jh] and Panka continued for 1,700 and was only check-called by Porcq.

On the [kd] turn Panka shoved for his last 6,550 with [kc][qh] and Porcq tank called with [ad][jd]. The board completed with the [5s] and the glint in Panka's eye returned once more. -- MC

8:50pm: Cash money
The prize pool has been finalised and the PokerStarsBlog can now bring you details of how much is up for grabs. The winner of this 1,089 runner tournament will scoop £133,500, the runner-up will get £80,300 and third place will receive £56,500.
The top 159 players will get £1,250, to see the full payout structure click here. -- NW

8:45pm: Word on the street
The lower ground (rooms A & B) is still standing room only as tables from room C are broken into it.

It'll come as no surprise to read that Ludovic Geilllich is one of the dominating forces in the room with around 110,000. He's a raising machine that's causing his table no end of trouble. Budding poker player and writer, Benny Glaser, has position on the Scot and was one player who managed to win a pot off him by three-betting and c-betting him off a hand.

Team PokerStars Online's Mickey Petersen is quietly going about his business. He's up to 24,000 and there are few better players around that have managed the transition from online to live, as he has.

UKIPT host Nick Wealthall has gone, last seen pulling on his jacket and making a hasty exit.

Eugene Katchalov got the better of Fatima Moreira De Melo in a hand. He raised into her big blind and c-bet for the win on a [9c][kc][tc] flop. She has him out-chipped 34,000 to 19,000 though.

Dario Milioto is no more but original tablemate, and reigning champion, Robbie Bull is still hanging in there. He's not pulling up any roots with 15,500 but you'd be a fool to write him off too soon. -- MC

8:30pm: Is Killeen's future in their hands?
Kevin Killeen is using a strange motivational technique to encourage him to grind back to starting stack.

8:25pm: From one painful encounter to another
Those free to watch England labour to victory over San Marino include: Digeo Gomez, Anne Hansen, George Phiniotis, EPT10 Deauville winner Sotirios Koutoupas, Jonathan Martinez, Jacob Stafford, Angelo Milioto, Asif Warris, Corinne Bauche, Salvatore Bonavena, Barry Donovan, Cesar Garcia, Rory Brown, Jeffrey Harper, Adam Kossew, David Ulliott, Slaven Popov, Neil Sillick, Samuel Welbourne, Julian Thew, Jordan Cousins, Florin Ionita, Louise Duffy, John Haigh, James Greenwood and Daryl Benton. -- NW

8:15pm: The numbers are in; 1,089 players!
Registration closed at the beginning of level 5 and when the numbers were double checked the confirmed entries for today was a massive 736 players! Add that to yesterday's number and the last UKIPT of Season 5 will round off in style with a total of 1,089 entries.

It's an incredible achievement considering this is the second of of back-to-back events. All the prize pool information will be up on the blog shortly. -- MC

6:50pm: Dinner break
The players are now on a 75-minute break. -- NW

6:45pm: Chip counts
As the dinner break approaches who's going to be tucking in with a big stack and who's going to be thinking about how to get a double up? Here's how some of the names and notables are getting on:
Chris Brammer, 64,000
Willie Tann, 49,000
Sergio Aido, 13,200
Kevin Killeen, 12,300
Vicente Delgado, 28,000
Morten Mortensen, 16,000
Eugene Katchalov, 34,350
Fatima Moreira de Melo, 37,000. -- NW

6:40pm: What up room C?
Sam Grafton and Craig McCorkell have departed from tournament room C, but Chris Moorman is holding court at McCorkell's former table and is at on around 11,000.

One more table along, David Vamplew is still trying to get back in the black. In one pot he called a button raise to 850 from Felix Stephensen whilst in the big blind. The small blind called too and all three saw a [4c][4s][5s] flop. Stephensen continued for 1,050 and the small blind called before Vamplew raised to 2,800. Both players folded and the Scot moved up to 11,000.

One more table along from Vamplew sits another former EPT champion, Roberto Romanello. He's as smiley and chatty as ever and why not? He's doing well on around 50,000.

ElkY also joined the fray in room 3 before registration closed. His stack is in the black (just) on 23,000.

Other players who've busted from the room include: Luca Fiorini, Chris Scholes, Oanh Bui, Lauren Render, UKIPT Edinburgh champion Dean Huchison, Stefan Jedlicka, Pieree Neuville, Joni Jouhkimaainen, Jonathan Weeke and Pizzo Romano. -- MC

ukipt4_london 2_day1b_sam_grafton.jpg

Grafton's grind has come to a halt

6:25pm: Seat open
Tables are being collapsed all the time here on Day 1B of UKIPT London. Roughly 580 of the 725 runners remain, which means that Tournament Room D is no longer in use and there are even some empty tables in Room C. Whilst that's good news for the players still in, it's bad news for: Paul Febers, Sorel Mizzi, Henri Ojala, Dhzem Yumer, Claire Renaut, Francis Lacken, Jamie O'Connor, Dominic Mahoney, Lam Man Hei, Fabio Esposito, Kim Holmberg, Emilio Navarro, Pasi Sormunen, Nicholas Bell, Renee Xie, Gabriel Dragomir, David Pollack, Artur Koren, Shaun Herran-Venables, Jonathan Brown, Van Hoang and Alan Gold as they are all out of this tournament. -- NW

6:20pm: Now that's poker!
The Scandinavians have a reputation for being pretty damn good at this poker lark and Wilhelm Sascha, who's from Norway, just put forward exhibit 9,763. Pre-flop he three-bet to 2,000 his opponent four-bet to 4,800 and Sascha called. He called a further 2,600 on the flop, both players checked the turn and the [8c] completed a board that read [2c][2d][2s][Ad][8c]. At this stage there was roughly 17,700 in the pot and Sascha was facing a bet of 5,300.

He took the calling chips out of his stack and fiddled with them, looked back at his cards a couple of times and then called. His opponent opened [Kh][10h] for a king high bluff, Sascha looked down at his cards once, then twice, surely king-ten wasn't good. Sascha then flipped his hand and the whole table saw that king-ten was good, for half the pot, as Sascha had called with [Kc][10s].

So a very exciting hand ended with very little chip movement at all! -- NW

6:12pm: No Sin in trying to bluff Peters
There is no sin in trying to bluff David Peters but there sure are easier opponents to convince.

The MTT pro opened from the hijack and Sin Melin peeled from the big blind to see a [qs][7c][td] flop appear. Peters continued for 850 and Melin check-called before both checked the [5s] turn. Melin led for 2,675 on the [3d] river and Peters studied hard before flicking in the call.

"That's my highest card," motioned Melin to the [9h] on display. Peters opened [as][5h] and moved up to 28,000. Melin dropped to 10,000. -- MC

6pm: Pain for Raine
There wasn't a lot Neil Raine could do about his exit from UKIPT London.

Blinds up: 200/400 ante 50

5:45pm: Gone
More exits to tell you about as, Ashley Bailey, Alain Bauer, Fabio Vizzarro, Matthew Davenport, Rytis Praninskas, Stefanos Zenonos, Jussi Nevanlinna, Mark Southwood, Jakub Michalak, Daniel Johnson, Ryan O'Donnel, Kyle Maguire, Tomas Strelciunas, Patrick Leonard, Yuri Dzivielevski and Thomas Dolezal are all out. -- NW

5:35pm: Panka feels the Kane pain
PCA champion, Dominik Panka has dropped to 10,500 chips after he lost a sizeable pot to UKIPT Edinburgh finalist, Michael Kane.

Kane opened from under the gun and was called by Panka (button) and the big blind. Kane continued for 1,150 on the [7c][qc][td] flop and only Panka called to see the [4d] turn where he bet 2,800 when checked to. Kane wasn't done though and check-raised to 7,500. Call.

The board completed with the [4h] and both players checked. Kane opened [th][7h] for two pair and Panka mucked. Kane moved up to 47,000. -- MC

5:25pm: Geilich gobbling up more chips
Say what you like about Ludovic Geilich's playing style, the man knows how to run a stack up. He's at it once again on Day 1B here in London and is up to 61,000 so far. His friend Paul Febers, who was runner-up to Alan Gold at UKIPT4 Galway, is having a tougher time of it as he's got 9,400.

ukipt4_london 2_day1b_ludovic_geilich.jpg

Geilich is going great guns again

5:15pm: Martins Adeniya: The stubborn one
"I'm just stubborn!" said Martins Adeniya to a tablemate after he refused to be dislodged off a hand to move up to around 34,000.

The Full Tilt Poker Ambassador opened to 700 from mid position and called after an opponent three-bet him to 1,800 in position. The board ran out [3d][as][9d][4c][2h] and Adeniya check-called bets of 1,925, 3,550 and 4,800 on each street. He was right too as his opponent could only muster up [qc][9c], losing out to his [ac][js]. -- MC

5:02pm: The departed
We'll hopefully see the following in Season 5: Daniel Wicks, Chi Zhang, Allan Drystad, Lisa Tan, Joe Laming, Niall Murray, Iason Riziotis, Anthony Hallam, Stefan Baustert, Andoni Larrabe, Brett Schuman, Eli Heath, David Stonehouse, Nathan Gallagher, Carlo Citrone, Thomas Hughes, Leon Luis, Robert Kuhn and Cristinel Sandhu. -- MC

4:57pm: Cry Sin a river
Sin Melin's face looked a little like ☹ during the second break after she was sucked out on in a hand to drop to 13,000.

She told the blog that she three-bet with [6d][4d] and called a four-bet along with the original raiser. The flop came down with two sixes and she got it all in with an opponent who held pocket kings. The Full Tilt Poker Ambassador was looking good until a king dropped on the river to spoil it for her. -- MC

4:50pm: Dode Elliot - racing for his tournament life
They say you have to win your races to win a tournament but for Donald 'Dode' Elliot that was literally the case as he won perhaps the strangest satellite ever held for entry to a poker tournament.

A group of poker players, who had already been eliminated from the UKIPT4 Isle of Man 2 Main Event, decided to hold a satellite to the UKIPT4 London 2 Main Event last Saturday in the Isle of Man. Nothing strange about that until you discover that the satellite took place at a local Go Kart track. 11 players took part and the fastest six in qualifying took their places on the starting grid for the big race. Dode's brother, Willie Eilliot was fastest in qualifying but Dode led from start to finish in the main race to win his seat to London.

ukipt4_london 2_day1b_go_karting.jpg

Dode (far left) was the fastest on the track

Elliot's day on the felt has been as exhilarating as the Go Karting, he told the PokerStarsBlog. "I was down to 3,000 at one point but doubled up with [Q][10] against pocket sevens by making a straight. I also cracked aces with [A][Q], The flop was [Js][10s][Ks], he's got the ace of spades. Just for an added sweat and ace came on the turn!" Elliot's hand held though and he's back up to 16,500 as level five gets under way. --NW

UKIPT4 London 2: Eric Theissen leads as Main Event eclipses 1,000 runners

$

Whenever there are two starting flights it's almost certain that the second will be bigger and whilst the first flight of the UKIPT4 London 2 Main Event attracted 353 runners it was positively blown out of the water today as 736 players coughed up the £770 buy-in to take their seats. For much of Day 1B the action was spread between four separate tournament rooms here at the Grand Connaught Rooms, when that happens you know you've got a monster on your hands. The total number of runners quickly climbed into four figures before settling at 1,089 when late registration slammed shut.

ukipt4_london 2_day1b_tournament_room.jpg

Packing them in at UKIPT London

After the powers that be crunched the numbers it was confirmed that the players had created a prize pool of £762,300 which will be split between the top 159 runners over the next three days. The winner is slated to receive £133,500, whilst a min-cash is worth £1,250. To see the entire payout structure click here.

ukipt4_london 2_day1b_eric_theissen.jpg

Theissen finished on top

After today's ten levels of play the player best placed to make a run at the big bucks is Eric Theissen. The player from the United Kingdom bagged up a tournament leading 293,200, he's got three cashes from the PCA, one on the EPT and another from the Estrellas Poker Tour. Tomorrow he should be able to add the UKIPT to that list. Other players to enjoy a strong day's showing were: Hamid Toghyan, who got most of his 279,000 when he won a 150,000 pot with aces against queens in the dying minutes, Daichi Tominaga (212,400), David Lichentin (194,200) Olof Haglund (191,200) and David Peters (185,700).

ukipt4_london 2_day1b_ElkY.jpg

When you're known by just one name you must be good

There were plenty of star names in the field today, it comes with the territory of such an event. They don't come much finer than fitness buddies ElkY and Eugene Katchalov who were the two Team PokerStars Pros to take to the felt today. Whilst ElkY made it through the day, finishing with 73,900, Katchalov would bust in level nine when he ran pocket tens into pocket kings.

The Ukranian was seated at the same table as Team PokerStars SportStars Fatima Moreira de Melo, she fared better than Katchalov did though and will be back for Day 2 with a stack of 65,200 and be hoping to make it two UKIPT Main Event cashes in a week after her 38th place finish in the Isle of Man. Also through to fight another day are Team Online's Vicente Delgado (70,600) and Christian Favale (32,000) but Mickey Petersen will have to wait for EPT London for a deep Main Event run.

ukipt4_london 2_day1b_ben_jenkins.jpg

Jenkins was in short stack ninja mode today

The Full Tilt UKIPT Tour Ambassadors were out in full force today and we got the complete set of four on the same starting day for once. They all had markedly different days too. Ben Jenkins was down to less than half his starting stack before the end of level two but that boy has patience beyond his years and dilligently worked his way back up to 37,500 by plays end. He'll start tomorrow with a below average stack but he's still got over 20 big blinds to work with. In contrast Martins Adeniya seemed to coast through the day comfortably in the middle of the pack throughout and that's where he'll start tomorrow with a stack of 86,900.

Sin Melin had a rollercoaster day, shortstacked one moment, above average the next before busting out with just minutes left in the day, she joined Dermot Blain on the rail, the Irishman having fallen in level eight

ukipt4_london 2_day1b_roberto_rommanello.jpg

EPT champion Roberto Romanello

There's no doubt that there were plenty of players in the field today for whom a UKIPT is at the bottom of their buy-in range and that's no disrespect to this tour, just a fact. Whilst some like Roberto Romanello (138,800), Ludovic Geilich (105,700) Shannon Shorr (87,800), Pratush Buddiga (55,100) and Chris Brammer (106,000) prospered, others found this friendly little tour a tough nut to crack. Chris Moorman, James Dempsey, Sorrel Mizzi, Adrian Mateos, Marvin Rettenmaier and David Vamplew were all gone by the day's end. And they'll be a new champion too as Robbie Bull also failed to advance to Day 2.

Whilst they won't be back tomorrow we, and roughly 340 others, will for a hectic day's poker where the bubble will burst and the march towards the business end of the tournament will begin in earnest. Join us from noon for moving day, for now you can catch up on all today's action by clicking on the links below. The overnight chip counts and seat draw will be uploaded when available, keep an eye on the widget to the right for that information. For now though goodnight.

UKIPT4 London 2: Day 2 level 11-14 (1,500/3,000, 400 ante)

$

4:20pm: Four down, four to go
So that's four levels down and another four to go. Much like a football match today is a game of two halves and you'll find level 15-18 updates in a new post shortly. -- NW

4:15pm: Ace-nine the hand to hold if you to want to avoid the cold
A tip for any short stacked players left in the field: get it in with ace-nine because that hand doesn't appear to be able to lose right now.

The first player to test this theorem was Parker Talbot, he moved all-in for 59,000 with [Ac][9c] and found a call from Antonin Duda, who held pocket queens. The [7d][6s][4d][8c][5h] board gave both a straight but Talbot's hole card gave him a higher one.

At the same time Marcelo Urbina was all-in for 40,000 holding [Ah][9c] and he was ahead of his opponent's [Kd][9s]. The [Kc][Kh][5c] flop left Urbina drawing thin but he got there on the [3c] turn and [2c] river. Cue mini celebration, which was taken in good spirits by the rest of the table. -- NW

4:05pm: Troyanovskiy on the double
Vladimir Troyanovskiy is more used to playing Main Events, High Rollers and Super High Rollers on the EPT but he's representing well at this grass roots level here on the UKIPT. He squeezed into the money and has made a move up the counts with a double up.

Ross Greig opened to 8,000 from under the gun and tank called after Troyanovskiy three-bet all in for 68,200 from the hijack.

Greig: [qc][qs]
Troyanovskiy: [as][kc]

The board ran [ac][8s][jh][5s][6d] to make the Russian two pair. -- MC

3:50pm; Debs destroyed, bubbles UKIPT London
Deborah Worley-Roberts is used to destroying other player's stacks. This time, unfortunately for her, it's her stack that was destroyed, and on the bubble too.

She opened from under the gun and Pablo Fernandez defended his big blind to see a [th][ah][td] flop that both players checked. Fernandez led the [9c] turn and set Worley-Roberts all in on the [2h] river. She called both times with [ad][kc] but Fernandez opened [tc][9h] for a full house.

"Hero or zero, boys!" mused Worley-Roberts. "That's poker!" she added before leaving.

Her exit meant there was no need for hand-for-hand play and everyone left in is guaranteed £1,250. -- MC

UKIPT4_Lo2_Bubble_Worley-Roberts.jpg

Worley-Roberts was the bubble girl

3:45pm: Stylianou out in 162nd: Loosli finishes 161st.
We're now on the pure bubble as Sylvain Loosli is out on 161st and Nicholas Stylianou finished 162nd. The latter check-raised all-in on a [8s][5c][5h] flop for around 20 big blind and was snap called by Antonio Miranda. The Spaniard, who had three-bet pre-flop, had pocket jacks and his hand held up on the [Qd] turn and [3h] river. After that hand Miranda is up to 600,000 and the probable chip leader. -- NW

3:35pm: Gordillo's luck runs out
Pablo Gordilla must've been one of the most confident players in the field after his remarkable achievements on the Sunday before last. That just took a knock though after he busted just shy of the money.

The Spaniard moved all in for 17,000 from under the gun and was only called by Anatoly Filatov in the small blind.

Gordilla: [kc][9d]
Filatov: [ah][5s]

The board ran [jd][8c][2d][3c][3s] to miss both players. The tournament is four places away from the money now. -- MC

3:30pm: Just missing out...
On the money are: Daiva Barauskaite, Yucel Eminoglu, Alexander Schechter, Peter Robinson, Antoine Saout, Davide Magnan, Robert Willis, Graham Parkin, Team PokerStars Online's Christian Favale, Jack O'Neill, Wilhelm Sascha, Philip Lee, Min Ji, Andrew Newson, Steven Baker, Jack Ellwood and Jamie Burland as they've all recently busted.

164 left. -- NW

3:20pm: More chip counts
The bubble is firmly in sight, so who's clinging to it and who's abusing it? Here's how some of the names, notables and big stacks are doing:

Hrair Mekhsian - 175,000
Katja Spillum Svendsen - 80,000
Roberto Romanello - 103,000
Keith Hawkins - 40,000
Matti De Meulder - 145,000
Dominik Panka - 170,000
Chris Brammer - 140,000
Brett Angell - 97,000
Eric Theissen - 205,000
Ludovic Geilich - 200,000

166 remain, 159 get paid. -- NW

LEVEL UP: BLINDS 1,500/3,000, 400

3:15pm; Double close to the bubble
The tournament clock is showing that the players are just ten spots away from the money. It's a good time to double and (obviously) a bad time to bust.

Good news for Nathan Watson that he managed to double then. He raised from the cut-off and then moved all in for 36,300 after Anatoly Filatov three-bet from the button. Call.

Watson: [ad][th]
Filatov: [8c][8s]

The board ran [js][9h][6s][td][6d]. Filatov dropped to 150,000. -- MC

3:05pm: Nanev doubles Willis
Rumen Nanev is a regular on the European poker circuit but he's going to have to grind it out if he wants to make the money. He dropped to 40,000 chips after he doubled up Robert Willis.

Nanev opened to 5,000 from under the gun and called when his Irish opponent three-bet all in for 22,500.

Nanev: [th][jh]
Willis: [ah][9h]

The board ran [kc][6d][7s][qs][4s] to see Willis stay alive. -- MC

2:55pm: Brilliant Barton speech gets Agerskov to check
"I have you by the b**locks!" said Jason Barton to Rasmus Agerskov. It prompted rapturous laugher from Agerskov, the table and most of the room due to the high decibel level. It was also the climax of five minutes effort from Barton to get his Danish opponent to check behind.

The two players were battling heads up in the blinds and Barton had check-called bets of 7,400 and 15,100 on the flop and turn. The board rested as [ah][9s][7c][5s][8h] and Barton checked for a third time.

Barton was babbling so much that he had Agerskov in a complete spin, so much so that he eventually checked behind with [7h][5c] for two pair, beating out Barton's [qh][9h].

"Good speech, you got me to check it!" said Agerskov who climbed to 150,000. -- MC

2:35pm: Chip counts
Most of the tables are now in the main part of Tournament Room A, whilst there's still a few tables in the outer part they're rapidly breaking into the main part of the room as players are eliminated. Here's how some of the players in the outer part are getting on:

Fatima Moreira de Melo - 90,000
Chris Sly - 210,000
Pablo Gordillo - 35,000
Martins Adeniya - 215,000
Sylvain Loosli - 85,000
Jeremy Wray - 28,000
Phillipe Souki - 120,000
Antoine Saout - 107,000

2:20pm: Chip leaders and exits
Day 1A chip leader Gino Levrini looks to be top dog at the moment, his stack of 390,800 which puts him ahead of Evangelos Terzoudis who has 330,000. The latter is at the same table as David Peters, the American has roughly 250,000 so if the two of them go to war we could have a runaway chip leader.

Of course poker is a zero sum game so whilst the chip leaders make hay, others are heading to the exits, they include: Tobias Hausen, Benjamin Windsor, Rocco Palumbo, Lazar Micovic, Gary Solomons, Grayson Ramage, Lee Dixon, George Westwood, Isei Okimoto, Carlos Citara, Padraig O'Neill, Richard Blacklock, Clifford Goldkind, Peter Hegedus, Max Silver, John Bassett, Kristian Svendsen, Kyle Smith, Gregorz Wyraz, Karl Hammerager, Joeri Zandvliet, Jamie Roberts and Javier Etayo.

2pm: Break
That's the end of level 12 and the remaining players are now on a 15 minute break. -- NW

1:58pm: Good Evans! Richard makes excellent river call
After seeing he'd made the right call Richard Evans puffed out his cheeks in the manner of a man who'd just been put through the wringer. That's because he had as Alain Bissai Logbo really put him to the test.

The PokerStarsBlog joined the action on a [4s][Js][6d] flop to see Bissai Logbo (button) bet 12,000, both the small blind and Evans (cut-off) made the call the [6s], which was a very interesting card, fell on the turn. Action again checked to Bissai Logbo, he bet 27,000 and Evans was the only caller. There was now over 100,000 in the middle as the [10h] completed the board. Evans quickly checked, Bissai Logbo fired again, this time for 52,500 and Evans went into the tank.

At this point Ludovic Geilich arrived at the table having been moved there from a breaking table. He and his good friend Michael Kane - who was sat to the right of Richard Evans - started up a conversation which increased in volume until the dealer asked them to quieten down due to the gravitas of the decision faced by Evans. Another minute ticked by and then Evans decided to call. "Good call," said Bissai Logbo, showing [Ks][10d], indeed it was as Evans opened [Ac][Jh].

After that hand Evans is up to 215,000 whilst Bissai Logbo drops to 150,000. -- NW

1:50pm: More Day 2 fallers
No cash for the following players: Madlena Trifonova, Allan Rawling, Leonard Readle, Paul McTaggart, Vance Martin, Tomas Andersson, Shannon Shorr, Nick Lynn, David Llacer, Marco Fantini, Nick Rampone, Will Dunlop, Matthew Wadsworth, Luke Marsh, Kelly Saxby, Tudor Purice, Adrian Gate, Mark Dillon, Jonas Lauck, Damaso Mora, Andrew Vann, Emiliano Bono, Florian Bordet, Simon Fuller, Alex Todd, Vicente Delagado and Ryan Spittles. -- MC

1:40pm: White turns to black
Oliver White did all he could: get chips in good and leave it in the lap of the poker gods to decide his fate.

He was down to his last 7,600 when he shoved from early position. Jack O`Neill was sat in the cut-off and he raised to 12,600 which was enough to force every one else out.

White: [ac][ks]
O'Neill: [kd][qh]

The board ran [kh][4h][5s][qd][8h] to make O'Neill two pair. -- MC

1:20pm: Ludo doing what Ludo does
That is winning pots and lots of them. Ludovic Geilich was still stacking some small gains from the previous pot when, in position he called a early position raise from Thomas High and this meant the big blind came along as well.

On the [2d][7s][6c] flop both players checked to Geilich and his stab at the pot was enough to earn him another pot. -- NW

1:15pm: Tank tales with Deborah Worley-Roberts
From under-the-gun+1 Pratyush Buddiga opened to 3,600, Madlena Trifonova then three-bet to 12,500 on the button and action passed to Deborah Worley-Roberts in the small blind and she went into the tank. She riffled her chips and then cut them down to see how much she was playing, clearly contemplating whether she could afford a flat call, should raise instead of if folding was the correct option. A deathly silence enveloped the table as they all realised that Worley-Roberts was facing a tough decision.

A few minutes passed at which point Worley-Roberts glanced to her right and saw Trifonova studying her intently. "Oh Jesus Christ is it on me?" asked Worley-Roberts, cue much laughter. "Why didn't somebody tell me, I'd folded in my head three minutes ago. I'm so sorry." She mucked and then Buddiga did likewise. "I can't believe I did that especially after giving you (Jack O`Neill) shit for taking so long. I had 10-3 offsuit or some trash." To which O'Neill said: "It looked like you had a really big decision to make!" -- NW

1:13pm: Jenkins off to the South of France
Full Tilt Poker's Ben Jenkins grinded so hard yesterday to make it here today but it was all undone after he ran queens into kings to bust.

He actually utilised pocket kings to double early on and had 30 big blinds when he busted. He informed the blog that Tudor Purice had three-bet off 20 big blinds so he had little choice but to rip. He did and the opener had the kings, called, and busted him.

Jenkins is off to join his family in the South of France so don't feel too sorry for him. -- MC

LEVEL UP: BLINDS 1,000-2,000, 300

1pm: De Meulder back to black
Matthias De Meulder dropped some chips early on but got back to where he started after eliminating Andrew Hawksby.

The Team PokerStars Pro raised from mid position and called after Hawksby three-bet all in for 28,300 from the cut-off.

12:55pm: Done and dusted
It's been a short day for: Richard Manning, Thomas Dunn, Cosimo Sabatini, Dmiitri Joubert, Trevor Pearson, David Bell, Adi Krispin, PCA9 Champion Dimitar Danchev, Alexander Lind, Henrik Hecklen, Chris Love, Barry Earnshaw, Oliver Price, Marcus West, Stuart Easton, Paul Mallows, Nicholas Berry, EPT 100 Barcelona runner-up Samuel Phillips, Anthony Smyth, Robert Day, Moench Maximilian, Chris Papapakis, Terrance Plummer, Simeone Vulliet, Paul Hoefer, Vaidas Siriunas, Jens Objin, Vladislav Varlashin, Shayne Khanna and Mark Winter.

They don't have long to wait for another tournament to start though as a £200 + £20 turbo deepstack kicks off at 2pm. -- NW

12:45pm: Ace, ace, baby
Jason Barton found a lovely spot to pick up aces to double up to 95,000.

He raised from late position before Javier Etayo three-bet from the next street. Barton came back with a four-bet and snap called all in for 45,200 when Etayo shoved.

12:40pm: Silver and Spillum Svendsen double
UKIPT Dublin champion Max Silver was perilously short with just 13,400 when the day started, but he's managed a double up already. "I had sevens against threes," he told the PokerStarsBlog. He's now in the relative comfort zone of 15 big blinds.

Another player who's gone deep in a UKIPT has got a double up as UKIPT4 Marbella 2 runner-up Katja Spillum Svendsen came out on top in a hand against Roberto Romanello. After the EPT Prague winner opened to 3,300, Spillum Svendsen three-bet to 13,500 from a stack of 34,000 and Romanello smooth called.

On the [2d][5d][4c] flop Romanello checked, Spillum Svendsen shoved for 20,500 and Romanello snap called rolling over pocket sevens as he did so. Spillum Svendsen was behind with [Ad][Qd] but not for long as the [Qc] fell on the turn to give her the lead. The [4s] completed the board and she climbs to over 70,000, whilst Romaenllo drops to around 105,000. -- NW

12:30pm: De Meulder ready to let sparks fly
For some, having the start of day chip leader at your table would be a concern, but its something Team PokerStars Pro Christophe De Meulder is positively relishing.

12:30pm: ElkY slips up, busts
Team PokerStars Pro ElkY winced at the moment he knew he'd slipped up and was likely in deep trouble. He was right, and busted.

Wilhelm Sascha opened the pot with a raise to 3,500 from mid position and called after ElkY three-bet to 11,000 from the cut-off. The flop fell [9c][3h][7s] and Elky continued for 8,500 but was check-raised to 21,500. The Frenchman three-bet enough to commit himself and Sascha wasted no time in setting him all in. ElkY winced and called off.

12:25pm: Tasty table draws

12:15pm: Westwood not amongst the early fallers
George Westwood came back with just 16,500 chips today but has managed an early double up, through neighbour Chaz Chattha.

His [as][jc] came from behind to beat Chattha's [qc][qd] on an [ac][6s][ks][4h][6d] board.

Frank Bastow, Neils Meibom-Larsen, Andrey Veselov, Vladislav Varlashin and Mark Winter were not so lucky and were the first out. -- MC

12pm: Shuffle up and deal
Day 2 cards are in the air.

11:25am: Welcome to Day 2
It's moving and bubble day on the UKIPT. The remaining 323 (from 1,089) return with the aim of making the top 159 and securing a cash.

For those Day 1A players returning, we have some good news for you: a lot of players turned up yesterday and many didn't make it through but they left a lot of money behind to play for. The prize pool topped out at £762,300 and £133,500 of that is reserved for the winner.

Robbie Bull busted yesterday so the winner's baton will be passed onto a new deserving soul.

The top five counts heading into the day are:

Eric Theissen, United Kingdom, PokerStars Player, 293,200
Hamid Toghyan, United Kingdom, 279,000
Gino Levrini, United States, PokerStars Player, 260,800

8:55pm: Game over
That's it for Day 2, over eight levels of play 323 players have been reduced to just 51 and it's Russian High Roller Vladimir Troyanovskiy who leads with a stack of 1,399,000. A full wrap of the Day 2 action will be with you shortly.

Day 3 starts at noon and will continue until a final table of eight is reached. -- NW

8:40pm: Last three hands
Three more hands at each table and that's it for Day 2.

8:35pm: Troyanovskiy leads as time ticks down
With 20 minutes left in the day it looks like its a three-way fight for the chip lead. The current incumbent, Vladimir Troyanovskiy, has 1,075,000 but Antonio Gonzalez (950,000) and Alessandro Piekazewicz (830,000). -- NW

8:25pm: Pospiech leaves his Mark on James
Down to just 11 big blinds pocket nines was more than strong enough for Marius Pospiech to commit his final 89,000 with, Mark James had [Ac][Kh], he called and it was off to the races. A [Ah][Qs][9s] flop was an emotional rollercoster for the pair, especially because the ace was the window card.

Pospeich had stood up as the flop was dealt, but he sat back down when the [3h] turn gave him 100% equity in the hand. He's up to around 200,000 whilst James is down to 52,000. -- NW

8:10pm: Moreira de Melo departs
Team PokerStars SportStar Fatima Moreira de Melo has just been eliminated, losing a classic race to Thomas Dunwoodie to bust in 59th place.

She three-bet shoved for around 20 big blinds with pocket jacks and Dunwoodie put her at risk with [As][Kc]. The [10d][Ah][Qd] flop gave Dunwoodie a near lock on the hand and there was no re-suck on the [2h] turn or [9h] river.

So although Moreira de Melo falls short of Day 3, its yet another UKIPT cash for the gold medal winning Olympian. -- NW

Moreira de Melo couldn't win this crucial race

8pm: Troyanovskiy: Lucky and good
Vladimir Troyanovskiy showed his class as a player and then got lucky to soar up to 880,000 - a half million profit in the level.

First up, he eliminated Evangelos Terzoudis after making a great call. The board read [4][5][7][9] and Terzoudis moved all in with ace-six for an open-ended straight draw. Troyanovskiy made the call with ace-queen and his hand held up.

Shortly after, he got fortunate to crack pocket kings with pocket jacks. Marcel Kessler had around 200,000 when he and his Russian opponent got their chips in the middle. The board ran [4d][qd][jc][7d][4c] to make Troyanovskiy a set. -- MC

LEVEL UP: BLINDS 4,000/8,000, 1,000

7:52pm: Kane KO'd

7:40pm: David's Stack Peters out
The next time David Peters was seen going all in, he was all out.

There had been a raise and a call on the button from Lukas Peleckis before Peters squeezed all in from the small blind. The original raiser folded but Peleckis called.

Peleckis: [qd][qh]
Peters: [ad][kc]

The board ran [js][6h][3s][9s][4h] to see the queens hold. Peters will be back for the EPT Main Event in a couple of days. Peleckis' stack jumped up to around 700,000. -- MC

7:30pm: Davies derails Quintas
Jose Quintas had only just moved to table six when he was asked to leave it as he'd lost his 143,000 chip stack to Nikolas Davies.

It was actually Brett Angell who opened the pot, making it 12,000 to go, before Davies raised to 27,000 and Quintas shoved for 143,000. Angell released his hand and, after getting a count, Davies made the call.

Davies: [Ac][Qd]
Quintas: [7h][7d]

The [As][8h][Qs][Jh][5h] board ruled decisively in Davies's favour as he made two pair to eliminate Quintas. -- NW

7:25pm: I Kamand a suckout
Issam Kamand was all-in for his final 40,000 with pocket sixes and in the deep stuff as Day 1A chip leader Gino Levrini had pocket kings. It was looking bleak for him until a six came on the river to keep him alive. -- NW

7:15pm: Palla sent packing on a rocket
Iacopo Palla's bad timing saw him bust during the seventh level today after he ran into George Westwood's pocket aces.

He opened the pot with a raise and then jammed all in for around 270,000 after Westwood three-bet him from the next street. Call.

Palla: [ks][qc]
Westwood: [ad][ah]

The board ran [5h][4c][2h][qd][ac] to make Westwood top set. -- MC

7:10pm: Double for DP Poker
David Peters was one of the big stacks earlier in the tournament but his progress has stunted since then. It had gotten to the point where he was into shoving mode and did so for 98,000 from under the gun.

Evangelos Terzoudis was on the button and he was the only caller before the cards were flipped up.

Peters: [ac][tc]
Terzoudis: [kc][qs]

The board ran [3d][3h][3s][5s][jd] to see Peter's hand hold. Terzoudis dropped back to 355,000. -- MC

6:55pm: Glittering cash prizes

6:35pm: Time to go outside
That's six levels completed on Day 2 and it means the players are now on a 15 minute break. -- NW

6:30pm: Kane brings the pain
Michael Kane let out a sigh as he called all-in from the big blind for 72,500 with pocket nines after Sylvester Geoghegan had shoved from the button for 81,500. "I've got nines," said Kane. "I've got two unders," said Geoghegan as he opened [8h][7d].

The board ran [Kc][Jh][Jc][2c][As] and Kane doubled to around 155,000, whilst Geoghegan was left with just 9,000 and was out a short time later. -- NW

6:20pm: Wilkes out but happy
They say the only person who's happy when a tournament ends is the winner, but David Wilkes is out, having been eliminated by Team PokerStars SportStar Fatima Moreira de Melo, but was still smiling and happy to tell the tale of his exit hand to the PokerStars Blog.

He told us that Moreira de Melo raised with [10][9] and got two callers before Wilkes also called in the big blind holding [Kc][Jc]. So there was already 40,000 in the middle by the time the [10c][Qc][10s] flop connected rather nicely with both their hands. The chips all went in on the flop with Wilkes having around 110,000 in total.

Whilst Wilkes was behind he had the ultimate draw, unfortunately there was to be no fairytale end to Wilkes first in the money finish on the UKIPT as he missed his royal flush draw on the [7d] turn and [5s] river. But as he said to the blog: "You can't win them all," hopefully we'll see him again on the tour in Season 5.

As for Moreira de Melo, she's up to around 270,000 after that hand. -- NW

6:10pm: One in, one out
Tor Midtrod is up to 140,000 after doubling up with [Kd][Jd] against pocket queens, a [Kh][7h][2d][8s][4s] board keeping his tournament hopes alive.

But there was no such luck for Neal Thornton who couldn't spike his three outer with [Ad][9s] against Evangelos Terzoudis who had [As][Qs] and held up on the [2h][3d][Kh][7s][3d] board. -- NW

5:55pm: Sly stacking more chips
Chris Sly has been an almost permanent presence in the top echelons of the chip counts today and he's up to 540,000 after eliminating an opponent in a huge pre-flop all-in encounter.

Sly held queens to his opponent's ace-king and the pair only improved as Sly flopped a set and won the hand to climb to 540,000. -- NW

5:45pm: Top middle and bottom
Just 100 players remain in the UKIPT4 London 2 Main Event. Chief amongst them at the moment are: Pablo Fernandez (845,000), Thomas Dunwoodie (700,000 - says he won set against set), Evangelos Terzoudis (550,000) and Chris Sly (540,000). Elsewhere UKIPT Champion of Champions Richard Evans (76,000) and UKIPT4 Edinburgh seventh place finisher Michael Kane (68,000) have some work to do and UKIPT2 Nottingham runner-up Brett Angell is squarely in the middle of the pack with 285,000. -- NW

5:40pm: Some sweat for Ludo
A bit of classic Ludovic Geillich occurred just now as he battled against Simon Fleischer in a big, multi street pot.

The flop was out as [ts][4d][5h] and Fleischer checked from the small blind and called when Geillich bet 29,000 from the button. On the [qs] turn Geillch bet 47,500 and Fleischer check-called once more. The board completed with the [3d] and Geillch set Fleischer all in for his last 72,000.

Fleischer tanked for several minutes before admitting defeat and folding. Geillich smiled and said, "Some sweat!" as he opened [9d][7d]. "Somebody could've called the clock for me!" he continued as he stacked up 440,000. -- MC

5:30pm: De Meulder downed
Matthias De Meulder never managed to recover and busted soon after that previously reported loss.

He told the blog that he got moved to a new table and was put straight into the big blind. An opponent raised into him and he jammed his last 30,000 in with ace-eight. He was called and had to beat jack-ten but the board ran jack high and that was that for the Team PokerStars Pro. -- MC

5:15pm: Kessler doubles through De Meulder
Matthias De Meulder's stack dropped to 32,000 after he doubled up Marcel Kessler in a button versus big blind battle.

The action folded around to the Team PokerStars Pro who raised and called after Kessler jammed for around 46,000 from the big blind.

De Meulder: [ah][7h]
Kessler: [qs][js]

The board ran [ks][jc][8c][8h][6c]. De Meluder paid his dues like it never even happened. His stack is in the critical zone now. -- MC

5pm: Double elimination
All-in and calls are fairly frequent right now and Dzmitry Urbanovich and Antonin Duda just busted on separate tables within seconds of each other.

Urbanovich's decline actually started a couple of hands prior to his elimination, he called Adi Aizin's 51k shove with [Ac][Qc] but was dominated by Aizin's [Ah][Kd] and didn't suckout on the [8d][2h][5s][9c][3c] board.

Down to just 55,000 his chips went in soon afterwards with [Ad][7c] and Gabriel Tuna's pocket tens held up on a [2h][7h][9s][Jh][5d] board.

Seconds later Duda was on his way when his [Qd][10h] couldn't outdraw the [Kc][Qh] of Espen Solaas.

121 players remain in content for the UKIPT4 London 2 Main Event title. -- NW

4:50pm: They came, they saw, they took home a souvenir
The payout placements will be published once the powers that be pass on the information. The players below all took a little something home with them though:

4:35pm: Four out of four for Moreira de Melo
Team PokerStars SportStar Moreira de Melo loves the UKIPT. Her love affair with the tour started a year ago when she she finished runner-up at the inaugural Isle of Man stop for £59,660. Since then, she played three more legs and cashed in all three, including this stop, where's she still in the hunt with 125,000.
