SAVE THE DATE: WCOOP 2019 CONFIRMED
Yesterday (July 25) we revealed the dates for the 2019 World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP), so you better mark them on the calendar.
Tournaments will kick off on September 5 and run until September 25, when the $5,200 WCOOP Main Event concludes. Arguably the most prestigious online poker series, there’s going to be almost three weeks of jam-packed poker, enormous prize pools, and tournament variations for all tastes.
6+ HOLD’EM SPIN & GO TOURNEYS NOW AVAILABLE
PokerStars has rounded out our 6+ Hold’em offerings with spin-and-go tournaments.
Beginning yesterday, July 25th, you can play 6+ Hold’em in a classic single-table tournament format. Rake and payouts will be identical to those in standard hold’em spin-and-go tourneys, so the only change is the game that’s being played.
REMEMBERING THE 1979 WSOP MAIN EVENT
While this year’s World Series of Poker was the 50th edition, 2019 also marked the 40th anniversary of what was arguably one of the most historic WSOP Main Events. In 1979, Hal Fowler stunned the poker world by topping a field made up primarily of professional players to become the first ever amateur to win poker’s most prestigious title.
PokerStars Blog’s resident historian Martin Harris did a deep dive into the University of Nevada Las Vegas’ Centre for Gaming Research, and found out some fascinating stuff about the original Moneymaker effect, Kenny Rogers, and Gabe Kaplan’s true profession.
FEEL THE HEAT: PLAYING POKER IN THE SUMMER
I think we can all agree, this heat is a bit too much. While some of you will be basking down the beach, others (like us) are choosing to hide away literally anywhere blessed with air conditioning.
No matter how tempting the sun and sand might be, the lure of poker is ever present. This week we took a look at how you can keep playing while spending your time away from the tables soaking up the vitamin D.

HOW THE SUNDAY MILLION WAS WON (JULY 21)
The biggest weekly online tournament deserves a big weekly write-up, and that’s exactly what we’ve been bringing you these past couple of weeks.
Last Sunday’s edition of the $109 Sunday Million (July 21) was won by a very familiar face indeed: Conor Beresford. But how did he get it done to win $112K? And what was it like for the other players at final table?
